“Sam O’Reilly, 19, skated in 62 regular season games with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League last season, recording 28 goals and 71 points with a plus-56 rating, ranking fourth for goals, third for points and second for plus/minus among all London skaters. The Toronto, Ontario, native proceeded to play in 17 games during the OHL Playoffs, logging seven goals and 22 points with a plus-24 rating to help the Knights defeat the Oshawa Generals in five games and win the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL Champions for a second-straight season. O’Reilly’s 22 postseason points and plus-24 rating both ranked third among all London skaters.”
I mean this guy has won back to back championships but I don’t watch much of the CHL so idk how this guy plays
He any good?
nice, idk anything about this guy but howard wasn’t playing here so it’s w/e. i actually prefer this to just the 1st cause this is a guy the oilers already had in the org and who’s further along (2024 draft)
22 points in 17 playoff games? Can’t complain about that
Kinda underwhelming. Think I’d have rather had the first and then sold it for a defenseman at the deadline. Guess the saga is over now at least
Hahaha wow, finally. I like the return, but more importantly: thank god this saga is over.
Perfect. Much better than any amount of draft picks from EDM. Excited to see how both of them turn out and see who really wins the trade.
People complaining about the return as if JBB had much leverage in this situation. Howard had all the room to veto a trade if he wasn’t going to sign somewhere so what more could you want? Edmonton’s #2 prospect at 19 years old who scored at more than a point per game place last year in the reg. season and OHL playoffs.
A one for one trade wasn’t expecting that
Anyone else not in love with this trade? I would’ve held out of a better prospect on the wings than another centre, especially if Bjorkstrand doesn’t come back to form after that nasty injury
Crazy that Howard would rather spend his time in Edmonton rather than Tampa
Glad at least he’s not traded to an Eastern conference team
As others have said glad the saga is over but wish he could’ve played for us. Oh well, Go Bolts!
Good riddance
Why get player know nothing about when can get player know much about.
Yay a new team to root against
I liked the kids moxie when he was drafted, you need a certain amount of arrogance and attitude to reach the summit. But as time went on it became clear that he believed he was bigger than the team and above playing for Tampa. I don’t know that I love the return but I also don’t know better than JBB, so I’ll trust it was the best return on the table in our situation.
Lightning get fleeced. Howard is FAR better
If they plan to use Czata at RW then I think the long term goal would be him and O’Reilly on the same line and just aggravate the shit out of opposing teams. Both bigger kids who can hit and play physical and like to play big in the playoffs. That’s a good thing IMO – kind of guys you want.
For some reason my first thought is that this could make geekie expendable at some point if JBB looks to make a trade this season or next offseason as we don’t have a lot of quality assets to trade. Sounds like oreilly is a solid two way prospect, similar to geekie?
Oilers are my second favorite team.
Welcome Sam.
Better than a 2028 first or the second we would’ve gotten in compensation, I’ll take it.
Hope Howard’s career is short and sad.
Oilers fan here.
I’ve followed SOR pretty closely. He had a very good draft 1+ year and was a key piece in the London Knights Memorial Trophy win. He scores goals, plays in all situations and is relied on late in the game protecting leads. He was the 2nd best player on that stacked team after Easton Cowan. He projects to be a good RH 3C 2-way player which sadly, is an organizational need for the Oilers.
I’m very conflicted. I’d be cautiously optimistic if I were you guys. I can honestly see him working out better than Howard but we’ll see I guess. No one knows which will work out better. I bet we’ll know 100% in 2 years time.
i’m sure howard just wanted to play with mcdavid. someone’s gotta keep the bench warm
Oilers…Enjoy that. Hope that’s what you’ve been looking for.
Based solely on my quick perusal of the Oilers sub, JBB cooking given the situation!
I like the return we got, hopefully this guy isn’t a deva like the last one
Seems like a fair / better than expected return for Howard.
I’m so glad this hostage negotiation is over — and hope he has a very healthy, but underwhelming career for Edmonton.
This a good deal for TB. O’Reilly is a good young player.
Might be a better all around long-term player than Howard
