MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 8, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Hello baseball fans and welcome inner league baseball on MLB the show. The Atlanta Braves taking on the Athletics. And now and we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. Athletics just about set to go now. And today’s starting pitcher, Luis Severino. What’s the word on him? Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way, somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Ronald Akuna Jr., the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. [Applause] and that misses. Two and one. That’s a little bit low. Fouls one away and now three and two. Strike him out. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. That’s bat. See you later. The first batter of the game leaves the yard and the Braves have the lead. Now it’s one- nothing. That’s a fun way to take the lead. Just hit one out of the park. Well, we see this so much more today. lineups with pop in the leadoff spot and it really puts the pitcher in a tough spot out there where he has to execute right away. You can’t just get over a couple of strikes to settle in, get comfortable because at the plate that guy’s looking to do exactly what he just did. Start the game off with a huge bang. He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Flashes the leather on the run and catch and there’s one away. Here’s Brian Slickers line for the Braves. It features a great veteran presence, Marcelo Zuna. And Boog, he’s a fun at bat to watch. I mean, definitely a threat whenever he’s got that bat in his hands, but for me, it’s it’s all about the mechanics. They’re so sound. And when he gets his foot down on time and starts his swing, so much consistency, that bat stays in the zone for a long time, and he squares up the baseball a lot. on the ground to third and that’s just fouled. [Applause] That one fouled off. One out. Base is empty. [Applause] Next offering upstairs. Really good take especially with two strikes. [Music] [Applause] Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Two and two. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Two down. Batting fourth. The two down. Base is empty. Next is the DH. A switch hitter. Jurgson Proar on the ground. And that’s a fair ball. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s in with a stand up double. First swinging. Went up there with a plan to be aggressive. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. And here’s the rookie catcher, Drake Baldwin. [Applause] Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. [Applause] [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Proofar on it. Second with two down. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Misses inside. Ball one [Applause] to the right side. And that chance handled throws to first in time. They limit the damage here, but they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. Back after this on the show. Back here with my pal Singi. And on the mound in this one, Dylan Dodd. Well, this guy’s just been filthy out there on the mound. Hitters batting under 200 against him and they’re just having a hard time squaring up anything, doing any type of damage. The only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surrenders a rare home run. But outside of that, it’s going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today. Lawrence Butler, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one and downstairs right now behind in the count, two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. just missed. [Music] That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. So, up next, Jacob Wilson. And that’s in there for strike one. Owning one and he deals and a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. Quickly into an 02 count. Both pitches were down in the zone. I think you set your sights a little bit higher cuz you’ll have a tendency to chase if you look down in that area. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Oh, really went aggressive in with that slider. Good two strike pitch right there. At worst case scenario, it’s weak contact in play. Exactly where he and the catcher wanted it. And now the right fielder Brent Rooker. Let’s go Brent. That one missing inside. [Applause] Man at first. One away. [Music] And another ball. [Music] And a foul ball makes the count. Two and one. Now a fly ball to right center. Harris has a beat on it. Brings it in and there’s two away. Batting fourth first base. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. Already trailing by a run in this one. They’ll be looking to get on the scoreboard early on as well. Well, it’s just the one run, so not too big a hill to climb, but yeah, if they can answer back in this inning or at least in the next couple, that’ll maybe settle everyone into this ball game. And that includes their own starter on the mount. Now, snap throw to first. Back in safe. Really close. Nick Curts in the box now as he leaves that one up high. [Music] Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Now two and0. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Two outs late that time and it’s strike two. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. And that’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Akuna makes the play and that’ll do it. The A’s strand one. They trail here one- nothing. And we’re back. Now it’s the veteran outfielder Marceluna. Ozuna. Severino back to work. Went with the sweeper, but it misses. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. That one hammered but pulled fouled. Here’s the pitch to Ozuna. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. [Applause] Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Got him. One gone here. And here comes Azie Alb’s to the dish. And a first pitch fast is in for a strike. Albz is playing on the road, so you know that means he’s been facetiming with his pet fish. This guy owns a few home aquariums, and it’s no secret he likes talking to his fish when he’s away. In fact, Alb’s had cameras installed so he can check on the fish anytime he wants. Rusty Valentine doing the umpiring behind the dish for us. Maybe the best name in the league. Yeah, that’s a solid one. No doubt. I mean, who’s better to ask than you? I kind of wonder if Rusty is his actual name or just a nickname. Yeah, no clue. Anyways, Rusty’s got a good zone. Very good on the corners of the plate, but he’ll give pitchers a little bit above the letters and below the knees if they’re earning it. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Two outs, base is empty. Michael Harris II. Next up for the Braves and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. One strike. Harris in the eighth spot in today’s lineup. And he was a third round pick back in 2019. At 96, that pitch is in for a strike. Two out. Space is empty. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Swings and sends a rocket to right. Rooker makes the catch in. So they make short work of him there. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Braves one and the A’s nothing. Bottom half of inning number two. Here’s the power hitting catcher, Shay Langalers. Langelers right through there for a strike. Oh, and one. That’s inside. One strike. [Applause] headed towards the corner. The Puna on the run. Can’t get there. This one lands foul. Up and in. And it’s two and two. And that one in the air center field Harris has a beat on it. One down. Batting six left fielder. Tyler Soder Stroke up next for the A’s way high. Good purpose pitch right there trying to tease him. Get him to raise his sights. pop something up and make it an easy out. [Music] Next offering is downstairs. One strike. [Music] Swinging a foul straight back. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up. slightly in. BS that off to the left and will do it again. [Music] Cut on and lifted in the air. Buna that’s out number two. Batting seventh, third baseman, Max Maxy up next for the A’s. Come on. Breaking ball inside. And that is ball one. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Two down. Nobody on this to third. Riley tosses across to first. That’s a third out. Nothing doing there for the A’s. They’re down one- nothing. New inning getting started. So, now to the plate for Atlanta. Nick Allen. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. There’s a strike. [Applause] Severino kicks, steals. The shorts stop takes a ball. Swinging a ground ball, jump throw and they get the out. My goodness, Chris, he had to generate a ton of power in that jump throw for the out. Let’s take another look and dive into the numbers from Stackcast. Man, that’s an impressive throw right there in the air all the way from third base. You’ve got to have a powerful arm to play third base, but he just showed he’s got more than enough. He’s got to can it. And here is Ronald Akuna Jr. That’s off the inside corner. And that’s ball one. That one way inside. [Applause] No, that’s the ball. This to third on to first. Two up, two down. Fastball groove right down the middle. Usually a lot of damage done with that pitch. A hard grounder, but he wanted to get that ball in the air. Maybe drive it into the gap. Matt Olsen up to the plate. He’s 0 for one. And that’s through there for a strike. Going one strike. Swings and misses on the fast ball. up in the zone for the strikeout. Three up, three down for him there. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Braves one and the A’s nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the second base, Zack Gill, trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues. up the middle. Throw on to Olsen. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. Knight center fielder Denzel Clark. Denzel Clark up next for the A’s. This is a guy who’s in the lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively, Chris. And when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor. And that’s a little bit high. One and0. I was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense, especially at a premier position. And that’s what he does. That one back up the middle and it gets through and that turns the lineup over. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground ball. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. And now, let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. So, the batting order turns over. Next up for the A’s, Lawrence Butler over to first and save walk to open the ball game. The hitting is going to come around. He’s going to figure it out. But right now, his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense. Let’s keep it going. And that one wrapped foul. [Music] Maybe a two ball. Five, four, three. Double play. And the inning is over. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. On to inning number four. It’s the Braves one and the A’s nothing. And we’re back out of the fourth. Here comes Austin Riley. Austin Riley. No. You know, these Braves showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. [Applause] Line drive to short and caught. Nothing you can do about those as a hitter. Even though you know that, they still drive you absolutely crazy. Proofar climbs in on that left side. Doubled into his first AB. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Proofar gets a piece there. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. Swing at a highf fly ball left field. Sodestrom on his way over. They got it for out number two. Now batting catcher Drake Baldwin. Two down. Base is empty. Drake Baldwin the next to hit. Grounded out his first time. Swanging a ball. Lifted in the air right field. He just missed it. and makes the play. And that’s out number three. Bottom of the fourth and the batter will be the short stop, Jacob Wilson. Short stop, Jacob Wilson. And the first pitch misses for ball one. [Music] Fast ball is outside. Well, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. [Music] That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. Swing in a liner. Base hit out into right center field. So, a man on base to start the inning. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. So, digging in, Brent Rooker fly to center his first time. and he’s 0 for one. Line drive caught on the run. Sends it over to first and they almost caught him, but he’s back in time. That’s a big first out of the inning. He showed off his skills catching the line drive, but most importantly, he kept the runner out of scoring position. Things would look a little different if he didn’t make that play. [Applause] Liner snagged it first. Dives for the bag. Got him. Double play. One hit in the inning, but no one left. We’ve played four. It’s the Braves one and the A’s nothing. Ready now for the fifth inning. Here’s Marcela. Marcel Ozuna. Severino back to work right through there for a strike and one little chopper rolls foul. That’s down and in. One and two. Swing and a miss. Struck came out. Langelers gathers. Throws to first. Got him. One away on the strike out. Oh, big power guy right there and generating so much bat speed. It’s hard to bring that to a halt once you’ve committed. He tried to check the swing, just couldn’t do it. Albz the next to hit takes ball one. Albz measures 5′ 8 in 28 years old and he’s a native of Kurissowl and a foul ball. One down base is empty. Swing and a foul back and that’s out of play. [Music] Swing and a highf fly ball left field and there’s two away. Up next for Atlanta Harris I next up for the Braves 0 for one so far. Well struck right field ranging back onto the trap and he makes the catch [Applause] and welcome back to the ballpark. And now the catcher comes up to here. Well, these fans definitely want to get involved in the game. All it’s going to take is to get the lead off man or even a base runner on. Ripped on a line away. Clearly ready to hit right there. First pitch of the inning hits a bullet and it just is one of those bad luck abs. Here’s the left fielder, Tyler Soderstrom. That one drilled left field. Ozuna makes the play and there are two down. Third baseman Maxy. So two down now and here is Maxie grounded out his first time up. Misses off the play and that’s ball one. Swing and a miss and he got him to chase. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Swing and a miss. One and two. Looking sharp just a strike away from five shut out innings. [Applause] [Music] Next pitch is outside. Three balls. Two strike and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Two outs. And that’s ball four. Tried another slider, but it missed the plate. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat. Getting that first hit at the big league level. [Applause] Breaking ball misses down and away. [Applause] Next offering is foulback. popped up Olsen. That is the inning. The A’s strand one still behind by a count of one to nothing. And we’re back. Now it’s the short stop, Nick Allen. Shortstop Mick Allen. First pitch and he just misses right through there for a strike. One ball, one strike. [Applause] That misses the zone. Two and one. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. That’s a ball. Tried the sweeper. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. Back to the lead off spot in the Braves lineup. And here is Ronald Akuna Jr. He’s already homerred here in this one. [Applause] Swinging a miss. That’s strike one. Base is empty. One away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. So, a man at first stepping in the long ball threat Matt Olsen. And there’s the strike. Severino. Auna leads off first with one away. Olson tries to check his swing. Now a look to third and Mike Filillmore right on it. He says he held up. And that’s downstairs and outside. [Music] Runns that one away and we’ll do it again. Severino throws to first. Akuna dives back in. The 2- two on the way. That one missed. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Sit him down. So all filled up. Severino and ball for two aboard. Now batting third baseman Austin Riley. First and second, one out. Austin Riley digs in now. Bowl for two in this one. [Applause] out towards right center field. This looks like extra bases. Runner around third on his way to the plate. One runs in. Now the second run is in and they’re up by three. Nicely done. Brings home two. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing. Nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Luis Severino won’t go any further. Not a bad effort, but he exits on the hook for the loss. New pitcher on the mound when we get back. Now pitching, the new pitcher in the game, Mitch Spence, left-handed batter at the plate, and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So, this seems like a calculated move. Now batting Juriken Proar one for two and that drops in for a strike. Profaru hails from Kurissau. Same place that produced standard Jones man at second. That one to first and he handles it himself for the out. A for Atlanta catcher Drake Baldwin. Now it’s the Atlanta catcher, Drake Baldwin. out of town. A two-run homer, his 11th of the year. And they add a pair. It’s five zip. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. Didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. His bat looks like it’s in the zone for such a long time. And that gives him the ability to get barrel on it and hit the ball out to any part of the park. Base is empty with two away. Marcelo Zuna next up for the Braves. That’s a strike. It’s 0 and one. [Applause] And it’s even up to Ozuna. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Jacob Lopez, the left-hander, up and throwing. Number 49, the right-hander loosening up as well. Two down to a foul ball makes it one and two. [Applause] swings through it and that’s a strike out. So it’s four runs for him on three hits including the home run. No errors, no one left. 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the sixth. It’s the Braves five and the A’s nothing. Well, we go bottom six and the batter down Denzel Clark Denzel Clark check swing went around strike one. You know, these athletics just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. They’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority, but it’s just not happening for them so far. Zero extra base hits in the game, so it’s been tough for him to get anything going. Alb’s over to first in time. One up, one down. Sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through, but it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have guys in scoring position because they put themselves there. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. Handles, throws to first. Quick recovery from the misplay pays off for the out. Now batting shorts stop Jacob Wilson. Two down base is empty and now Jacob Wilson Chris baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. Oh, one strike. The Braves leading by five here in the bottom of the sixth and it’s fouled away. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. Slice to right. Fair ball. Now he’ll turn for second. The throw in. Safe at second. Now batting right fielder Brent Rooker. So runner at second. Two down. Now it’s the right fielder Brent Rooker. First pitch. Not close. When you look at the elite teams in the game right now, there is going to be the slug. No question about it. But the really good offensive teams combined slug with more contact with less swing and miss. to go. Next pitch misses and the count now two and nothing. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. Come on. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter. Three ball. This one in the dirt. Yeah. And I figured you would get caut into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. So now two on and two outs. Now batting number 16. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. And first offering is fouled off. misses outside now. One and two. Yeah, that’s too high. [Applause] cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout and that is the inning. Make it six shut out innings for him out there. Now it’s the Braves five and the A’s nothing and welcome back to the ballpark Albzie Alb. Let’s go to baby in the air. Center field. Clark sizes this one up and he makes the catch. Then there’s one down. Now batting center Michael Harris. And next for Atlanta, Michael Harris II. [Applause] Now a close rule to ball one and that’s downed away. Next offering is in for a strike. And that’s outside. Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting shorten next up for the Braves. Let’s get through here. Foul ball. Pulls that one foul. Come on. And that’s way high now. One and two. Harris stands at first with one out. Next offering upstairs on the ground left side. Six 4 three. It’s a double play and that’ll do it for the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Seventh inning, stretch time. It’s the Braves five and the A’s nothing. Now pitching out of the bullpen, Bryce Elder. He last pitched two days ago. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers, known for his rocket arm behind the plate. And that’s off the inside edge. All one. In this situation, you expect the batters to be a little more patient, possibly take until they get a strike. With that, you don’t want to miss your opportunity to get ahead early in the count. He didn’t. Right there. Swing and a miss as he was out front. Clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now, he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes. One and two now. Fights it off. He’ll see another [Music] swing and this one’s bounced to the ground. And the leadoff hitter set down to open the seventh. Now batting left fielder Tyler. So up next, Tyler Soderstrom ball on there. The Braves bullpen has some activity. Dylan Lee getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Montero, a hard throwing right-hander up as well. Fast ball for a strike and it’s one and two. Stays alive. [Music] High-fly ball out to center field. Harris in position. He makes the grab. Out number two. Now batting third base. Two outs. Base is empty. Next up for the A’s, Maxy. Come on. And that’s in there for a strike. Little slider that finds Lamar. Swing and a miss. And a count is 0 and two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Two down, nobody on here. Bottom of the seventh and they’ll do it again. Elder fires. That missed by a lot and count one and two. Ripped on the ground to second. Sends it to first. That’s the inning. And one, two, three go the A’s. Still looking at that five nothing deficit. Now pitching for Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the number 49. He’s pitching on two days rest. Here’s Akuna. Now he’s already homered in this game. Ronald Akunia Junth. That one at 95 missed up top and it’s one and0. inside. Just missed. [Music] Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. Another homer, his second home run of the game. And they add to their lead. It’s 6 nothing. Well, Boo, clearly some frustration out there on the mound right now. I mean, that ball was so close to going foul. Would have been a long strike, but instead batter gets rewarded. Did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence. And now it’s Matt Olsen’s turn to hit. Breaking ball misses down and away. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. And we’re in the top of the eighth. [Applause] Misses off the inside. And that’s ball two. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Jacob Lopez, the rookie left-hander, appears to be getting going. [Applause] That one fouled off. Two and two. [Music] [Applause] Swang and a miss. Struck him out and that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. Here comes Austin Riley. With this kind of lead, he can swing freely, try to hit the ball out of the park, do what he loves to do. [Applause] That just misses. And that’s ball one. [Applause] Fast ball for a strike. One ball. One strike. [Applause] That one misses. Two and one [Applause] upstairs. One straight pop foul out of play off to the right. [Applause] And that’s ripped into the left base hit. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. One gone runner at first. Here’s Pro Far one for three. delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. [Applause] Riley leads off first with one away. [Applause] That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. [Applause] fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. [Applause] Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. two away. But that kind of velocity, an elevated fast ball, even if it’s still in the strike zone, can be tough for hitters to get on top of. And here’s the catcher, Drake Baldwin. [Applause] In the air, left field. Sodrom in to his right. He’s got it. And that is that. One more for Atlanta on the homer. It’s now a 6 nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. This one isn’t exactly close. Chris, let’s go off script for a moment. Okay. Were we on script? Never. Growing up, who is your favorite big league mascot? The Philly Fanatic. Still the best mascot. Is there a reason? Well, I love the Phillies and I loved Mike Schmidt. Michael Jack Schmidt. 548 home runs. He was my favorite. Well, some people say you and the Philly fanatic kind of have some things in common. We have a similar body type. It’s true. As far as ballpark food, one of my favorite places is San Francisco. Garlic fries. Yo, garlic fries. And you got the lobster roll out there in the outfield if you want to make the walk all the way out there. It’s great though broadcasting a game with that zoo breath where you could just I mean absolutely levitate some people with your with your breath. Swings and misses. Struck him out. That pitch wasn’t even close to being a strike. And that just goes to show you how defensive hitters can become when they’re up against an 02 count. You’re just hoping for a mistake somewhere near the zone that you can get the bat to. But right there he was clearly anxious. He was swinging when the ball left the hand. Next up for the A’s, Denzel Clark on the outside corner for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. But we got the crab fries in Philadelphia. Is that right? Yep. And then it’s been a long time for me. Boogs Barbecue at Oriel Park. I knew you’d go there. That’s right. Yeah. Anyway, you can work in your name, huh? That’s right. One down, base is empty. That’s to third. Riley fires to first. Two up, two down. Now batting designated hitter, Lawrence Butler. Two down, base is empty. Next is the designated hitter, Lawrence Butler. And there’s a ball. I can’t play around with him here. It’s a six-run lead at this point. Got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot. And misses inside. The Braves up big in this one here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Ground ball up the middle. A sliding stop, the throw, and it beats him. What a play. A’s go quickly and quietly there. They still find themselves down six zip. And we’re back. We go to the ninth. Now in for the Braves. Marcelo Zuna. [Applause] And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Next offering is fouled back. [Applause] Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Here is Aussie Alby’s up to 0 for three with two fly outs and a strike out. [Applause] Not even close there. And that is ball one. [Music] [Applause] And a foul ball. Base is empty. One away here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] Swing and a liner. Foul off to the right. [Applause] Now he breaks his bat, reaching down, makes the catch. Now batting center Michael Harris the second. [Applause] Two out, space is empty. So now to the plate for Atlanta, Michael Harris II swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. A for Atlanta short. So digging in. Nick Allen 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. In there and it’s 0 and one. [Applause] [Applause] hit in the air out to center field. Clark, he’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. So, one hit is all they get. 234 set to hit in the bottom of the ninth. Braves six and the A’s nothing. Bottom nine. Now at the plate, Jacob Wilson. The emmo for him is contact. A guy who’s going to deliver average. Not a ton of power. He’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere. Y’all, that’s why it’s a team. And when you look at a lineup, he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help turn that lineup over to have some momentum for your top hitters coming up to the plate. line drive. Basic down the line. So, runner aboard to start the inning. Oh, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch. And that’s how you do it. Now it’s going to be Brent Rooker swing and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the zone. Nobody out. Runner at first. There’s the strike. [Applause] gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. [Applause] In the air right field, nobody can get there and it’s a foul ball. [Applause] to third. Riley over to Alb now to first and it’s a double play. They made that double play look so easy but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. The Athletics down to their last out. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. 0 for three in this one. And that one a little below the knees. Ball one. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Next pitch inside. Now two balls in a strike. Two down, nobody on here in the last half of inning number nine. Elder [Music] is just one strike away. Just misses with that one. That turns out to be a really good take right there. But you don’t want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder [Applause] on the ground. And this should do it. Allen fires to first on the run. And that is the ball game. The ball for his first career save deserves to be on display at his house. I mean, it’s kind of like when a restaurant frames its first dollar bill somewhere in a wall. You just can’t forget your first save. 6 nothing is how this one ends. for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long
