Nationals vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (7/9/25) | MLB Highlights
The weather is great. We won’t have any issues tonight after a game delayed at the start last night. Nolan Aronado back in there after dealing with the shoulder impingement. He avoids the IIL. That is so good to see. Problem for Andre, it’s not how he’s pitched, but when the Cardinals haven’t scored a run for him the last two times he’s been on the hill. CJ Abrams ready to lead it off. Nine out of 10 he’s had hits. Standing in at 288. CJ Abrams first pitch and he’s going to jack one to right center over to get it in a hurry. Victor Scott and a great first swing and just like that the Nets are in business here. Well, it’s been a while since we’ve seen CJ just go to work on that first pitch of the game. So, James Wood in that number two spot and a swing and a miss. There’s a knuckle curve and Wood missed that by a foot and a half. Bell flip-flopping with low and into the cleanup spot. That’s outside and a nice plate appearance for Josh Bell who has now walked three times in a row in this series. Daniel Lowz, 58 RBI’s is hitting 232 with 13 homers. Looking for his first hit of the series. There’s a real slow one and a real hard hit ball to right. See you later. Right over the top of the wall. Then it bounced straight up and that time the super slow one from Palante did not work like it did against James Wood and for load number 14 RBI total jumps up to 61 and a big swing by the big first baseman. Nationals will try and even this series tonight behind one of their two allstars. McKenzie Gore sparkling 131ks for Mac that’s going to come back and strike him out looking up in the zone. win Frozen and there’s number 132 showed to the numbers eight for 13 a home run a pair of doubles against Gore for Contras and a little pop behind first that’s going to drop in for a base hit Contras around first going to try for two call got to it quickly but not quick enough double 21 for Contras and there’s your first Cardinals hit well this right here again does not have to be hit hard this ball just dumped into right field it’s hustle though out of the box. So, here’s an early inning test. The Nets have three. Big strong power guy Berles in this lefty lefty matchup. Deep short that’ll creep through and the Cardinals are on the board. Berles serves a single to left. Contras scores. Without a throw, it’s three to one. Well, you got to take what you are given in this inning. The Cardinals have done just that. You were given a little double down the line. The hustle by Contras in this one perfectly placed there in the hole past Abs. Victor Scott II will lead off for the Cardinals. You get 239, 10 doubles, a triple, four homers. Abrams to his left, spears it. And a nice landing as well. Only way you make this play. Yeah, it’s not hit hard. Doesn’t matter the spin on it. You have to have a great first step. Great read off the bat as CJ did, but he’s got a two-run advantage here with Mason Win up. He froze him on a curveball his first time. Hit into right field. That’s a base hit. And that was kind of floated the other way. kind of a spinner. It sure was. That was off the end of the bat. So now Wilson Conturus comes up winging a miss and a ball diving. Riley will step out into a throwing lane and Curus not going to bother. He’ll make a right turn. Josh Bell leading off. Bell drew a walk in the first inning. Josh Bell makes a loud sound out to right center. Beautifully placed. Racing into second for double number eight. And the Nets are getting some good hacks here. Although the second and third inning were rather quiet. There’s Nathaniel Low coming off that one iron he hit out of here. And Low will advance the runner. Ball skips off the side of the mound. Donovan saves a run by keeping it out of center field. And the Nats have runners at the corners with nobody out. See if Palante can pitch around that. Alex Call fly ball to right first time. That is fair inside the bag. It’s going to hit the short corner. Bell home low to third. Alex Call into second. RBI number 21 and the Nets are moving the line around Bush Stadium right now. Oh, what a great job right here by Alex Call. Battle with two and a big spot for Brady House who bounced out to win short. It’s jammed again. Nowhere for the runners to go, but we’ll see if it’ll give it an infield hit. Very difficult play. Do or die for Aronado. And the Nets have the bases loaded with everybody staying home right there. So, four hits in a row by the Nets and a big spot for Riley Adams on the ground at third. Got to come home with this one. There’s one and that forces low. One away. And Aronado gets Nathaniel Low at the plate. He’s out 52 now. The bases still loaded with one out for Jacob Young. And Jacob Young trying to drop one down the right field line. It is fair. Home is called. House on his way. And Jacob Young will rack up RBI’s number 13 and 14. Now the Nets are all over Palante. Jacob Young, how do you like that? Two runs home on the play, three runs home in the inning. It’s now the National Six and the Cardinals one. You see CJ Abrams, the seventh net to bat in the air toward center. Victor retreats. He settles behind and his throw comes in strong and on target to third. Two outs. So they will take on James Wood here. Two short. Mason loads up and a strike to first and that will retire the side. And the Cardinals now have two runners on with two outs for Pedro Pahes. Those teammates have just given him a fiveun lead after it was down to two. Big sequence here. Still early in this game. Swing and a miss and a ball in the dirt and Adams will jump up and tag him out. So another zero. Three in a row on the board for McKenzie Gordon. the Nets. Rosario getting the start at second base is fouled out to third and flyed out to left. And Rosario, he will drill one toward the bullpen. CU later over the bullpen. His fifth of the year and the Nets finally a couple of long balls here tonight. And how about adding that right-hander into the game today? It’s Andre Palante. 107 off the bat. 434 for Med Rosario. That was a bomb. And McKenzie Gore 59 pitches, 37 strikes through four. Swing and a miss. That is filthy for a lefty. Two consecutive Ks and four on the night. The 3-2 strike three called. Went back to the slider. This one finds its mark. Gorez. Back-to-back strikeouts here in the fifth. Give him five. Here’s Wilson Contras. He had the other popfly double in the first inning. Challenge upstairs for the strikeout. ThreeKs in the inning. A harmless double through five. Wood has struck out swinging. Grounded a short twice. He is 0 for three. Oh my. Right center. Did you hear it? Now watch it. See you later. Number 24. RBI number 69. Wow. 116. And that one got out of here in a flash. It’s now the Nationals eight and the Cardinals one. Right guy, right time. Newb Bar with 12 homers leads the club. That ball smoked towards center and a nice recovery try by Young, but it’s over his head and will stop at second. Thought for a minute Young was going to track that down, but the old Adam ball to the center fielder caused him some trouble. And there’s the start in the seven. Victor Scott the second the center fielder. There’s going to be a line drive to ride and Alex Call is going to come up with it brilliantly. Yes, Bob, that was a great catch. There’s a pitch in the dirt and that’s ball four. Donovan’s a base runner. Okay, now you’ve got two guys on. Now you pop one. Now you’ve got a game. Let’s see what Mason could do. He’s an RBI away from 100 as a big leager on the ground. Base hit. Here comes Newar to third. They’re going to wave him. The throw is terrible and up the line. It’s an opposite field hit for Mason Win. That is his 100 big league RBI. It’s an 8-2 game. Well, that is a baseball to keep right there for Mason Win. And just a good piece of hitting. Well, keep the line moving. Cardinals have done a good job of late with two outrun production. Couple more hits would be nice. Swing and a drive by Contras. Deep right center. Young moving across toward the warning track and on the edge of the track in deep right center. Jacob Young makes the catch and the inning is over and the Nationals are an out away from evening the series. Here’s Victor Scott. Swing and a miss and this one is done. It’s in under two and a half hours. Congrats to Miguel Cairo and Franny. You nailed it early. some lineup construction and it turned out really well for the skipper.
