More Moves Coming? Writer Reveals WILD Trade | Grizzlies News

Are there more moves coming for the Memphis Grizzlies this summer? Well, maybe. One writer revealing a wild mock trade that could really end up helping Memphis in the long run. We’ve already seen reports from Sham Shirani about Cole Anthony going to be shipped to another destination this offseason. We don’t know what that is, but what is that man right there GM Zack Climman? What else is he cooking up this off season? What’s going on everybody? Jer Alour here for another episode of Grizzlies Digest. Thank you so much for joining us here in the middle of the week. We’ve almost made it to Friday and we’ve almost made it to the weekend. But this is from William Willerup of Grizzlies on SI. He is proposing a trade with the Wizards and the Grizzlies where the Wizards get Cole Anthony and a 2027 first round pick swap via via Memphis a top three protected and the Grizzlies get Cory Kissert. Now a little bit about Kiss. He is right now of course with the Washington Wizards. He was balling at Gonzaga a few years ago where he made the national championship game along with Jaylen Suggs, Drew Timmy back in 2021. Unfortunately, they got crushed by the Baylor Bears in that game. It just seemed like the two teams, they just seemed destined that they would meet in that year, but it was not Gonzaga’s year. actually the second time they made it to the national championship game in five years and they’ve obviously gotten pretty close since then to one of the most premier basketball programs out there and Kiss he was a major part of that an all-American back in 21 but since then he has been with the Wizards and not him experiencing growing pains per se but of course the Wizards have been one of the laughing stocks of the league for the past few years now. And I think that if anything, Kisper should go somewhere else. I don’t know exactly if it I would love it to be Memphis. If not, I think right now at 26 years old, the Wizards are building with a mixture of veteran guys and young guys like Bub Carrington, Kabali, Alex Sar, those are the young guys. the older guys like Chris Middleton, they signed before the trade deadline earlier this calendar year. And then with CJ McCullum, they now have him. And with Kiss, I I think he’s slowly moving out of that radar. So, if you want to look at the Washington depth chart for just a moment here. So, there you go. Just all the names that basically I said right there. And they signed Cam Whitmore, too. And you also got Kahan George, Demarcus Smart, former Grizzly, Trey Johnson. So he he’s slowly being moved kind of out of the shadows. So if there’s a move to be made, which by the way, we’ve I feel like we’ve heard more about Cole Anthony from Sham Shrania and other media outlets than we have from the actual Grizzlies organization at this point. But if we are gonna move Cole Anthony, why not get someone like Corey Kisspert who I think he’s been improving pretty much every year. I think he is. And I don’t want to go too far just yet. I’m not saying he is these guys just yet, but in the next couple or so years, he could blossom to a guy like Danny Aia or Devin Vel or Kobe White. someone that’s definitely on the radar but not quite an all-star. I think right now he’s kind of at the point where he’s about to blossom in his career. I think he just needs the right spot. And you see these numbers, these points per game, his highest points per game being in the 23 24 season, playing in 80 games, starting in 22 of them, playing around 26 minutes, averaging 13.4 four points a game. And I’d say he’s a pretty good three-point shooter as well. I mean, look at what he did in the 2223 season, knocking down a 42% from downtown and pretty much 50% from his his field goal percentage. I think he’s a a very uh high impact player. I want to take a little bit more uh a closer look, I should say, at Cory Kiss. 6’7, like I said, 26 years old. That’s exactly what he did this year, averaging 11.6 a game. Corner three, shooting 37%. And around 45% from the field. So, I think he could get a little bit more involved. Let’s say if he’s not having a good game, he’d get involved getting rebounds, getting loose balls, passing the ball, just getting more involved. I think that’s where his next goal is. Not just trying to score points, but what else can he do to impact the game? I think that’s where his next challenge is going to be in is as his NBA journey continues. But if we look back on this article by Liam Willerup, he adds, “Kissper has spent the first four seasons of his career as a member of the Washington Wizards and may very well be one of the more underrated players in the league. While his three-point efficiency has fluctuated year-to-year, he did convert basically 73% of his attempts between zero and three feet this season. While the Grizzlies now have several wing options in Jaylen Wells, Vince Williams Jr., Gigi Jackson, Cedric Coward, KCP, Cory Kispert has a case to be the best offensive option in that group. Even though Kispert still has several drawbacks to his game, making a deal at this price for someone under contract, excuse me, for less than $14 million annually for four years is a steal. So, I talk about him financially, what he makes annually, saying that could be a steal for the Memphis Grizzlies. And I I personally agree. Now, we talked earlier about Nick Richards. We talked about him a few days ago, how he could be the next big. Obviously, that won’t happen because the Grizzlies signed Jock Landale and they got rid of Jay Huff. Clearly making note of their big man situation. But for the Washington Wizards, I mean, you you you talk about this. Sorry about all those slides there, but you talk about this. They’re a team that’s young but also older like the older guys being smart and Middleton and McCullum. Those are going to be the guys that carry um Kabali and Alexar to new heights. Now for the Wizards, they’re just trying to make use of themselves. They’re just trying to look relevant, but they need about anybody they can get. And for the Memphis Grizzlies, I mean, we’ve heard about Cole Anthony being moved to another destination. That’s what Sham said as Jiren Jackson Jr. was being signed last week. And we still don’t know what’s going to happen with him. So, you have a a great bench. Let’s say if you do sign Kiss, you have an amazing bench right here. You have Scotty Pippen Jr., Ty Jerome, Cory Kisspert, Cedric Coward, and then at the power forward, let’s say, assuming Aldama starts, you got Brennan Clark, Gigi Jackson, and at the center, you have Jock Landale, and you also got Brother Maggley. I mean, I don’t know what the deal is there. I still think we need to sign a big man, but I think that the Grizzlies can benefit from this because we already know they’re getting rid of Cole Anthony. We all 99% certainty they’re already doing that, but what exactly can Memphis get in return for that? Cory Kiss could be an excellent addition. I think as someone that saw Danny Aia explode the way he did this year, I’m I’m basically seeing that in Cory Kissert or what could be that of Cory Kiss for the next year, if not two years. And I do agree with the article. He is an underrated player in this league and I think Cory Kisser does deserve to get a chance somewhere else. Hopefully. I I hope it’s Memphis, but this is definitely something to think about if you’re Zack Klein. But that’s going to do it for us here. 1. No benefit to this trade with exception of blowing a future 1st round pick. Thought the whole reason to get rid Cole Anthony was to free up salary. Kispert's stats are no more impactful than what we already have on board.

  2. If we trade Cole we have to take back a lot less salary to complete the JJJ contract redo still. Kispert just makes too much money unless we want to make this trade a lot bigger, and frankly is a negative contract as of right now for what he has shown in the league.
