Salary Cap Breakdown – Cleveland Cavaliers
Heading into next season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have one of the most expensive rosters in the NBA. They’re deep into the luxury tax, past the first and second aprons. And this is before they gave a new contract to Sam Merrill, bringing them over 220 million in salaries. That’s why when Ty Jerome got an offer for over 8 million a year from the Grizzlies, they just couldn’t afford to bring him back. They did make one other move though, sending Isaac Okoro to the Bulls for Lonzo Ball. A Cororo’s contract of 11 million is exactly $1 million more than Lonzo’s contract. Then they also brought back former Cavalier Larry Nance Jr. for the minimum. And then they drafted Tyrese Proctor in the second round of the draft. So unless Cleveland makes any more moves throughout the off season, Dan Gilbert will be paying an exorbitant luxury tax bill and they’ll be facing the dreaded second apron penalties. But for a team that just had the best record in the Eastern Conference last season, that seems like a price worth paying.
One of the highest payrolls in the NBA, here’s what the Cavaliers salary cap looks like heading into next season.
