Joan Beringer Summer League Debut Was INSANE!

Johan Beer, the 18-year-old. Are you kidding me? This dude is so young. He was the most impressive player in a game with Derek Queen, Jeremiah Fears, Yees Missy, Terren Shannon Jr., Rob Dillingham, a bunch of future NBA talent with potential. But in my opinion, he easily stole the show. Let me know your thoughts below immediately and leave a like on the video. Thank you very much. I mean, look at how he started the game. One of his first defensive possessions. This is brilliant stuff. He avoids the screen, absorbs the contact from Missy, doesn’t get pushed back too much, goes for the steel attempt without fouling to mess up his flow. Then again, standing his ground, and then he puts his left hand up, and as soon as Missy goes for the spin move, he knows he’s trying to shoot it. And that’s when he times the block perfectly. Very impressive patience in my opinion. I see so many young big men in this situation just, you know, looking to go for the block very early on and they end up fouling. But on this one, he just took his time to avoid the foul. They get an offensive rebounds and Jeremiah Fears is driving to the cup. Left-hand finger roll attempt. But guess what? I’ve seen on the interwebs, he has a 73 wingspan. Some say 74. I even seen 75 wingspan. Who knows? He’s got long arms. That’s all you need to know. Appreciate the timing. And look at how high he skied in the air to get that one. It’s pretty clear nothing is going to be easy when he’s around the rim. And my goodness, he has a perfect teammate to learn from, aka Rudy Goar. It’s going to be a blessing for him to pick his brain and just watch him play from the sidelines early on. And also, they’re both French. I guarantee you that had something to do with them picking him. And it’s clear he’s very comfy moving around in space. He’s a modern-day big man. His teammate gets screened on this one, so he helps on Fears, forces a pass, but he has the quickness to rotate back to Missy, absorbs the initial bump, and once again, he doesn’t bite for any pump fake. He’s just waiting for him to clearly shoot the basketball. And when he does, he says, “Get that out of here.” Clearly, he has a great sense and has that natural shot blocking gene. An 18-year-old getting the better of a 21-year-old who played 73 games last year. Yesy is a very good center. Also, he knows his role. He’s never gonna try to do too much. He’s going to stay in the short corner, set screens, roll hard, play hard, hustle 247, and it’s just the icing on the cake when he could hit shots like this. Seems like he has smooth touch around the rim. Then next possession, Shannon Jr. breaks down the defense and makes the quick pass. He’s going to provide real vertical spacing for sure. Another great defensive rep. get high on the screen, cut off that driving lane, rotate back to his original man, and then help out his teammate who got screened and just be a brick wall at the rim. Come on now. And now this time he’s off the ball and he recognizes Derek Queen got a mouse in the house. And notice he jumps in the air before the ball is released. He gets so high he has the ability to just hang in the air and he sees the ball, spike it down like a volleyball. Athletically speaking, at his size, he’s different. His motor is also crazy. Going for the offensive rebound here. Doesn’t get it, but he stays in the play. Eventually, he gets a play finishing opportunity. Takes his time. Nice pump fake to get the rim protector out of the way. Then he slams it on that dude’s head. It’s good to see he looks comfy in that situation. He looked calm and composed and knew exactly what he wanted to do with it. I know it’s such a simple play, but we’ve seen big man in the past have zero offensive ability whatsoever and stumble and bumble and fumble in that scenario. As he grows as a player, he’s definitely going to have the ability to stretch on the perimeter and switch onto smaller players if they need him to in a pinch. Here we see him against Jeremiah Fears and he does the best he can possibly do. He got popped in the face and it kind of took him out of the play. But it’s just good to see he’s willing to do that and he’s going to compete already in that situation because in the modern NBA just naturally you’re going to get put in that situation as a five. But this last play I want to showcase is one of my favorite traits. He has an unlimited motor. Early on in this clip, we see him set a great screen for his teammate. Opens up a wideopen three. Look at how hard he crashes the glass because he knows a smaller player’s on him. just so impressive, grabbing the rebound, going through some contact in traffic right up to the rim in 0.5 seconds. He was so quick with that move. That’s exactly how you want him to use his size and length. Immediately after that bucket, the Pelicans push the pace. They get sped up and they just throw it right to him. He finds the outlet and notice Derek Queen and him are at the same point, but one is very tired and the other is just getting started. Queen is worried about getting a beverage on the bench at the TV timeout. Meanwhile, our guys focused on the offensive rebound. Those were backto back possessions we just witnessed. Compared to other big man, it it just seems like he’s always going to have more energy than the opponent. And that’s a crucial trait to have as a big as a rim runner in the modern NBA because a lot of games are really, really fast. I go up and down the court just like that. He was easily the most impressive player in that game in my humble opinion. Definitely want to hear your thoughts below in the comments section. and leave a like and subscribe. Have yourself a great day and peace out.

  1. Dude his Shot blocking ability, patience and IQ for a guy who only played basketball for 3 years needs to be studied…….cause wtf

  2. I doubt him being French had anything to do with them picking him. It was all the scouting they did to learn his game and feel for his ceiling

  3. I know that its irresponsible and not going to happen for a few years but i wonder what his stat line would be if he played 30+ minutes a game for 80 games this year

  4. There were a few times he got bodied and didn't box out for rebounds, but that stuff is coachable. His natural instincts for the ball are something you can't teach. This guy will be a problem, damn.

  5. he's gonna be a stud. steal of the draft, dare i say. do you have him travel and practice with Rudy, Randle, and Naz…or give him playing time in Iowa?

  6. JB is going to be a key player. I can't wait to see the T-Wolves vs Nuggets on July 12th!! It's going to be a show down!

  7. I guarantee Gobert has worked with this dude in the past. He has a camp for young French players. I remember seeing a 16 year old Wemby in Utah a few years back. I would bet money Beringer has been to Minnesota in the past as part of Gobert's youth camp. It's the perfect landing spot for him.
