MLB LIVE🔴 Atlanta Braves vs St. Louis Cardinals – Jul 11, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Live from Bush Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. The start of the weekend is upon us. It’s Friday evening baseball on the show. The Atlanta Braves taking on the St. Louis Cardinals. And now All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about set to go on the mound for this one. Steven Mats. Chris, how about a scouting report? Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Jurgson Pro leading things off and takes a strike and the lefty kicks delivers this to third and that’s a fair ball. can’t glove it cleanly around first. Heading for two, gets off a throw and he’s going to get to second with nobody out. Nice job keeping it fair as he turned on it down the line and once it got through the infield, it was a double all the way. So, the go-ahead run in scoring position. Here’s Matt Olsen. Another solid power season and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. One’s the count. Profar at second with nobody out. Right side hard hit steps on first for the out. Here’s the Atlanta Braves lineup. A really frustrating showing for them in their last game. Lots of traffic on the bases, but they left a ton of runners on base. Couldn’t cash in their chances. Chris, they had plenty of chances. There’s nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively. They just did a poor job converting in those situations. You have to figure out what’s your plan going to be. Maybe watch some tape from the last game. Make the adjustments. So if you get those opportunities in this one, you’ve got a much better chance of scoring some runs. Rolled softly, but that goes foul. No score here, but a runner at third with one down. Next pitch inside. One and one. That one missing inside. Go home. He gets there with the slide, the throw. Run, scores, but a terrific play to get the out. Well, there it is. A little old school manufacturing of a run after that double. ground out to get him over and another ground out to get him in. Nice job to get that RBI. So, here’s Murphy now off the plate inside and that is ball one. Two outs. Base is empty. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Here’s Marcelo Zuna. And that’s outside and it’s one and0. Here’s the pitch to Ozuna. That one fouled off. [Music] Swing and a highf fly ball to left. And that is that. They get a run on two hits, no errors, and a man left. Onto the bottom of the first, it’s the Braves one and the Cardinals coming up back here in St. Louis. And today on the hill, Grant Holmes. What do we have on him? Well, that whip is just below the league average and that’s a good thing in this case, not allowing too many base runners. So on most days he’s going to go out there and compete and put his team in a position to win and I expect to see that from him in this one today. Now a chance for Brendan Donovan. Donovan. First pitch is starts him with a breaking ball, but that’s a pitch he’s really comfortable hitting. You can’t rely on breaking stuff to be automatic out pitches against him. That one hit to right. White makes the grab. One away. Now we take a check of the St. Louis Cardinals lineup. And one of the most exciting young stars in the sport, Mason Win. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Mason win in the box now. No balls in a strike. Holmes, he has a reputation. I don’t know, maybe a knack for working himself out of tough situations that he finds himself in. You know, you like that in a relief pitcher, but when you have it for a starting pitcher, a guy that can get out of a tight spot, that is pretty valuable. Throw on to Olsen. That’s the second out. And you won’t see the skipper rush to get somebody up in the bullpen as soon as he starts to see some signs of trouble. This guy’s earned a longer leash. And because of that, confidence grows with the players and teammates playing behind him that when things get a little rough out there, they know he’ll find his way through it. hammer down the right side but foul. How much of the ability to do that in a tight spot is the mental approach. I think it’s very much being able to have a laser-like focus. Slow everything down. Stay right in that moment. Pitchto pitch execution and focusing on that catcher’s miss. Here comes Wilson Contrus swinging a foul straight back. Burlson off of first with two away. Strike two. No balls, two strikes. Fouls it back with two strikes. That misses. It’s a ball in two strikes. One ball, two strikes. The count breaking ball misses. down and away. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. The Cards leave one. They’re down one- nothing. Back here at Bush Stadium. Top of the second. Now at the plate. Azie Albies. Mats back to work up the middle and that one handled onto first and Alz is retired. And stepping in is the speedy Steuart Fairchild. Swang and a miss. There’s that change up. There’s a good change up to hit up in the zone. I don’t think he recognized it. I’m sure he’d love to have that one back inside. Just missed. James Kingsley, our played umpire. Consistent and maybe a little generous on the edges. Yeah, Boo. He’ll give a little bit on the edges like you said, but from what I’ve seen, he usually does that when a pitcher is just commanding those parts of the strike zone and essentially they’ve earned it. The umpire rolls with him. Swinging a foul out of play. One down. Base is empty. Up and in. Two balls, two strikes. That one missed. The 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four. A breaking ball in that 3-2 count kind of tells you that that’s the pitch he has the most confidence in right now. just couldn’t find the strike zone. So, a man aboard and now here’s a speed threat outfielder Eli White. That’s in there. Strike one. Let’s go right through there for a strike. This is one of those situations defensively where you can’t try to do too much. You got to make sure that you feel the ball cleanly and get one out first. It’s going to be tough to get two with this kind of speed in the batters box. Man at first, one away. One ball in the dirt but kept close. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Not close with that one and the count is two and two. Well, with the amount of pitches that can end up in the dirt, a good secondary lead doesn’t have to get away from the catcher, but if you’re anticipating based off the trajectory, get yourself into scoring position and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. and a 3-2 shoots a line drive single into right center and they’ll have runners at the corners after a one out single. Just a great at bat right there. Saw a lot of pitches. Just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field. There’s a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate. Doesn’t come naturally for most hitters. Two on, one out. Here’s the shortstop at the plate. Nick Allen swing and a miss as he was late. One’s the count. Brothers at the corners. One away here in the top of the second. on the ground. Two ball off balance feed. There’s one and that’s two. So one hit is all they get. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Braves one and the Cardinals nothing. Back in St. Lewis as the Cardinals come up to hit here in the last of the second. Here’s Nolan Gorman. Curve in the dirt. Let’s go down. Next offering is in for a strike and misses inside. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Two two the count and miss. Curve ball struck him out. That right there is one of those breaking balls that you swing through and you feel like you should have done something with it or at least spoiled it away. But when it’s breaking in on you like that, if the spin is tight enough, it can actually tie you up. And up next for St. Lewis Thomas Jay-Z fast for a strike. Foul ball there. That’s outside. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. [Music] fans. Another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Backto back strikeouts to start the frame and that’s now three in a row. Yeah, he’s really settling in and getting a feel for his pitches, throwing them where he wants to right now. So, we’ll see how long he can keep this streak going. Now up for St. Louis. Lars Newbar. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. 0 and one. Two outs. Fouls. One off out of play. Back to our left. [Music] Next offering upstairs. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. Swung on. Belted. That’s down. One hops off the wall and he’s in at second with a two out double. A late jump. And I think that was the difference on the play. Boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. Pedro Pahz getting ready to hit. Swing and a line drive. That’s a base hit out of the right center. Headed to the plate. He’ll score and it’s an RBI single. It’s 1-1. Well done. Drives in the run. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did and he did it perfectly. Two outs, runner at first and stepping in for the Cardinals, Victor Scott. Check swing, no appeal. Two gone, but the go-ahead run is at first. Bottom half of inning number two. just missed. Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So, it’s a good take by him. And that’s too high. Well, I would expect in this three- 0 count. You’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you. Brendan Donovan in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Pah leads off first with two down to the inning. So now two on and two outs. [Music] Now the left fielder Brendan Donovan. He’s 0 for one. You have to be careful throwing and breaking pitches even in an O count. He loves going after the off speed stuff, but he’s really good at midnight. just missed. Highf fly ball lifted into right field. White drops into the glove and that is the third out of the inning. But the RBI single pushes across a run. All even now at 1-1. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show back here in St. Louis. And now the DH Jurgson Proaru highf fly ball right field. Nukebar. One up, one down. And now Matt Olsen up to hit. 0 for one. He grounded out to first his last time. Swing and a fly ball. Well struck left field. Donovan has a beat on it. He’s there. He’s got it. And there’s two down. Here comes Austin Riley. Just missed. and downstairs. recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Come on. Two down. Nobody on up the middle and that chance handled. Gets it to first. That’s the third out. Nothing doing for the offense that time. We head now to the home half of inning number three. All tied 1-1. And we’re back. And the batter will be the shortstop. Mason win. The shorts stop takes the ball. 10. that one inside and it’s two and0 and another ball. Next offering is in for a strike. And there’s a foul ball. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Makes the grab. One down. Up next for the Cardinals. hitter. And next is the designated hitter, Alec Burlson. One for one with a single so far. St. Louis Burlson measures 6’2 in 26 years old. He’s usually in right field, but today he’s getting the DH treatment. This one high in the air to left center. Fairchild on the move to the gap. He makes the grab and there’s two away. for the Cardinals. First base Wilson. Wilson Contras now up to the plate. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. Ball one there. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, get a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. tied up here in the early going. There’s the strike. Next offering upstairs. That’s ball four. tried another fast ball but missed the spot. One of the things about that two-out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Gorman in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Contrarus the runner at first with two gone. Next offering in there for a strike and it’s nothing at two. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. He’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. Breaking ball misses down and away. swing and a miss. Struck him out. So, it’s no runs, no hits, no errors, and one man left. Three innings complete. All tied 1-1. All set for the start of the inning. Now the Atlanta cleanup hitter Shawn Murphy misses outside and that’s ball one. just missed. Two count. Great hitter at the dish. If you’re going to miss, you’ve got to miss outside the zone. You miss inside the strike zone, you’ll be asking the umpire for a new baseball. That pitch in for a strike and it’s two and one. Now, generally second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. It’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahead run. Marcelo Zuna coming up to hit. Fly to left his first time. There’s the strike. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up to this point. [Applause] Ground ball right side. Could be two. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly, but the throw to first gets him easily and that’s the first down. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. The job was to move the runner up, but give your team a chance to score the go-ahead run. That’s exactly what happened. So, you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. And that is out of play. One out and a runner at second. Top half of inning number four. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. Stop sign goes up at third. Runners at the corners with one out. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Steuart Fairchild next up for the Braves. Walked his first time and that one fouled off. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Puts the tag on him and gets a double play. Brave strand one. Still tied 1-1. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Chavei and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Thomas Sajay-Z. first pitch and he just misses. You know, these cards showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. Next offering in there for a strike now. Two balls in a strike. late swing fouled all. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Sea strikes him out for the second time today. Well, one of the things that hitters will do is they’ll look for that red dot on the baseball that is coming in to let them know what the pitch is. And if they see the red dot, it’s typically a slider. But when a guy’s got a really tight one with high spin rates, very difficult to determine. And that’s probably why we saw a swing and miss right there. Just a nasty pitch. Nbar stands in now and watches strike one. One out. Base is empty. swing and that’s ripped towards right center. This one could be trouble around first and hustling for second and he’s got his second double of the game. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Kind of a risky pitch coming inside with the breaking ball like that. You have to bury it otherwise it’s not too difficult to get the bat to it like he did that time. One out, runner at second. Pedro Pah next up for the Cardinals. Singled and drove in a run his first time through. In there for strike one. [Music] High-fly ball out into left center field. Ozuna sizes this one up, makes the grab and there are two downinal. Victor Scott next up for the Cardinals. He reached out to walk his first time. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Pitch misses. Now two and0. Love how this guy grinds out at bats. I mean, he’s down there at the bottom of the lineup in the nine hole, but he’s worked himself into a really good hitter’s count trying to pick up a two out RBI. Swings through that one for strike one. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. That’s in there. And now two balls and two strikes. [Music] Tap to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. No runs, one hit, a double, no errors, and one man left. We’ve played four. All tied 1-1. Back here in St. Louis, ready now for the fifth inning. Digging in, it’s the speedy outfielder Eli White. Mats back to work and a foul ball. You know, these Braves looking to string together better at bats when they have runners on, but it just hasn’t happened for them yet. They only have one hit with runners in scoring position, so a lot of squandered opportunities. It’s tough because those are moments you just can’t get back. The 1-1. Yeah, that’s fouled off. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. And there’s one away. He hit into a double play his first time up. Left field. Donovan drifts towards it and he makes the catch. Two up, two down. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left and it’s fouled away. And that one fouled off. There’s a high chopper. Gorman whips it to first on the run and they get the out. Braves are set down one, two, three. Score remains deadlocked at one. Here comes a new arm for the Braves. Bryce Elder. Still pretty early in the ball game. So, this bullpen has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs, kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him. Back to the leadoff spot in the St. Louis lineup. Here’s the left fielder, Brendan Donovan. Go for two in this one. Clips the corner and that is strike one. You know, these Cardinals just haven’t produced as many competitive at bats as I’d like to see in this one. They really haven’t worked many deep counts or long at bats. And that’s fine if you’re having a lot of success. But at this point, I think it’s time to make an adjustment. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. Now Mason win. [Music] Just off the inside edge, the Braves bullpen has some activity. Daz Bell Hernandez appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Bummer. Warming up as well. And that is cut on and missed. One and two. One ball, two straight in the air to left down the line. Ozuna ranging after it, reaches for it, but it’s fouled. Foul ball still a one and two count. All tied up. Last half of inning number five. Ground ball Olsen. He steps on the bag. Home for the fifth inning. Moving along. Two quick outs. So now here’s the DH. Alec Burlson one for two. In there at the knees and one. He swings and fouls one off. 0 and two now. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. One, two, three go to Cardinals. Score remains tied 1-1. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. The new pitcher, Sunonny Gray. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. Here’s Matt Olsen down. Ball one. Movement in the bullpen. Phil Mod appears to be getting loose. Romero, a left-hander, also throwing. Chop back up the middle. Win lead off man retired in the six. Batt Austin Riley. Here comes Austin O’Reilly. [Music] That one misses. And that’s ball one. Base is empty, one away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. St. Louis. turned on but foul wide of third. Liner to second and picked on the hop. Gathers and throws and very nicely done for the out. Shawn, here’s Shawn Murphy. Murphy 30 years old now and he was a third round pick back in 2016. Pitch misses and that is ball one. Well, a mistake right here could untie this ball game. If you’re the pitcher out there, you just want to be a little more cautious. Next offering is in for a strike. swings through that one. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. Pitches in the dirt and the count’s even at two. And that’s a little bit high. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Two outs. Hard ground ball base knock. Up next. Go ahead. Run on base. Now the left fielder, Marcelo Zuna. Ouch. Well, it’s safe to say he won’t be getting invited to the charity golf tournament this off season. And here comes Azie Alb’s to the dish. Sways through that. This guy’s sink has so much drop in it. It’s almost like a split finger fast ball. Instead of just weak contact and balls on the ground, he gets swings and misses. A swing. Now it’ll appeal to third. No swing. Just held it back there. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. next offering is downstairs. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. Two on, two outs. Got him swinging. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. Bottom of the sixth inning. And here’s the first baseman. Wilson Contrus fought off foul. Elder fires and a slider misses down and away. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Raphael Monttero getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Johnson also throwing on the ground out to Short. Throw on to Olsen and that’s one out as they get the leadoff hitter in the six. Good armside run to that same side hitter right there. Very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through it. Just pours in on the hands. And up next for St. Louis, Nolan Gorman, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Swing and a miss. There’s the slider. It’s 0 and one. Tap foul at the plate. That’s down and in. A slider missed. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with that one inside. Look out. [Music] caught a break right there. Pretty good pitch on the outside corner. It’s in and out of his glove. Still fires to first and it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. And here is Thomas Sajay. There’s the strike. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the six. Ball one. That’s outside and a count two and one. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. Next offering misses three and one. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. inside and that’s ball four. Just missed his spot on the inside right there. Lars Nukebar. Next up for the Cardinals, [Music] and the first pitch misses for ball one to Jay-Z off of first with two away. Come on. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even. Next offering is outside. That one in there across the letters. [Music] And it remains two and two. Hard hit right side. Third out. Back here in St. Louis, here’s the center fielder, Steuart Fairchild. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. And out number one on the grab. And now Eli White. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it, but pushing the offensive side for just a second. Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times the ball comes off the bat, automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Nice line drive to the pull side, met it out front, but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. And now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. And next for Atlanta, Nick Allen. Here comes the pitch. Runner breaks for second. Strike in there. He’s in there. You know, nights like this when it seems harder to score, I like the call to put them in motion and try to steal the base. Ball’s not carrying. No home runs so far. So, trying to manufacture some offense like this may be the way to go. Runner edges away at second. Runner goes again. Throw to third. Save. And that’s his second stolen base of the game. I’d say an aggressive roll of the dice there to steal third in this spot, but they felt good about it and it worked out. Now the game plan changes a little bit at the play to get that go ahead run home. The defense might pull the infield in. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And it’s two and one. Sliced hard but foul with the go ahead run at third here in the top half of inning number seven. cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. That’s a huge strike out right there. Big second out. Infield was in. They were playing the fullcourt press and he got the swing and miss. Keeps this one tie. This next it should be a lot of fun. The odds of wiggling out of this just went up considerably. Juriken Profar steps to the dish in a critical spot. Swinging a ground ball towards first but foul. Two down. Go ahead run at scoring position. Hard on the ground to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. One hit, one left. Midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. All tied 1-1. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Raphael Montero 32 appearance. And now the Cardinals catcher Pedro Pah. [Music] The pitch. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. Not even close there. And the count even one and one. A little out front there as he swings through it. One ball, two strikes. [Music] got him looking. That was pretty nasty. Well, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. Really locked him up. And as a hitter, it’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. Hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it’d be called a ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. Stepping in, Victor Scott out towards right center field. White sizing this one up. Corrals it and a couple of quick outs. Here’s the left fielder Brendan Donovan 0 for three with two flyyous and a strikeout. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Swaming a drive deep right field. White ranging back. Caught just shy of the wall. Three up, three down for him there. We look ahead to inning number eight. All tied 1-1. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Phil M. The offense will need to be ready for the breaking stuff. He’s got a great curveball. Here is Matt Olsen 0 for three in this one. Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Newbar moves under it. One away. Here’s Austin Riley. edge of the zone called a strike. One say it’s the best pitch in baseball. Strike one. You get ahead on a good hitter as well. Gives you a little bit more confidence to move through the at bat. Right through there for a strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. All tied up and we’re in the top of the eighth. Swing and a highf fly ball down the right field line and there’s two down. Shawn Murphy the next to hit. He’s a big strong guy. Can untie this game with one swing. That catches the top part of the zone. Strike one. That clips the corner. That’s a 02 count. You got the opportunity to expand the zone. could get the chase there. Let’s see what he comes back with next. Now this is in the air down the line. Newar on the move. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that is that and we’re back out of the bottom of the eighth. And now the shorts stop. Mason win. Montto back to work. Very high with that one. One and0. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Out to center. Fairchild under this one. Brings it in. And there’s one away. Alec Burlson. Next up for the Cardinals, one for three. Top of the zone for a called strike. Check. Swing. Called strike. [Music] And that one is lifted in the air. And that’ll get down for a hit. And a go ahead run is on base. Still able to come through behind in the count right there. You can’t do much better than that on a pitch that far outside of the strike zone. Got him to chase on the two strike count, but he wasn’t fooled. He hit that ball really well. So a change being made at first base. Pinch running here. Garrett Hamson. One down, runner at first. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Wilson Contrus. Just off the inside edge. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in the scoring position. One away. Tie game. Go ahead run stands at first and fouled off. [Music] Monttero fires. Runner on the go. Pitch in for a strike. Save second with a stolen base. Now a good opportunity to potentially jump ahead in this game here in the later innings. Chris, his wheels were the difference maker on that play. Just got in there. Yeah, with Statcast’s help, we see his top speed on this stolen base. And that’s a big number. I mean, man, he really made his athleticism work for him on that one. Off the mark there. Two balls, two strikes to count. That one lifted to left. Bzuna sizes this one up and there’s two away. batting. So, the go-ahead run at scoring position now up for St. Louis. Nolan Gorman 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. First pitch misses. Man at second. Swings and misses. And it’s one and one. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. One ball, two strike. Missed with a change up. Two balls, two strikes. Two down. Go ahead run in scoring position here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. And there’s the ball. They got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Thomas Sajay-Z in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. 3-2 now. Foul tip. Oh, that got her umpire. And it looks like it got him upstairs and ball four to a board. A great back and forth in that at bat. to play off some really close pitches and somehow Bergie found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. So, the go-ahehead run is into scoring position. Thomas Sajay-Z next up for the Cardinals. A walk and a pair of strikeouts. Sliced the other way and foul. [Applause] Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Squeezes it. That is the inning. No runs, a hit, two left through eight full. All tied 1-1. Here comes Ozuna up to the plate. Outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. Well, he’s always a threat. Even if this guy is 0 for three for the night with three strikeouts, he can come up that fourth time and do damage because he’s that good. And that one just missed off the outside edge. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. Fly ball down the line. calls it in for the out. Azie Alb’s up to the plate. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Base is empty. One away here in the top of the ninth. Sliced hard but fouled down the left side. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Can’t connect on the curve ball. Struck him out. A pretty good break on the curve ball right there. Maybe not as down in his zone as he would have liked, but deceptive enough to get that swing and miss. And if you don’t catch that pitch out front on the barrel, it bears in on you pretty hard. So now pinch hitter for Atlanta, Ronald Auna Jr. Man, it must be nice to pull a superstar off your bench, huh? swings and misses and it’s 0 and one. M 31 years old, he joined the team as a free agent. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And it’s one and one. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. And the next pitch is way outside. Popped up foul territory behind the blade. Catcher tosses the mask. Settles under it. Brings it in. And that is that. Nothing doing here this half. Bottom part of the order. 789. Two up in inning number nine. All tied 1-1. Pierce Johnson into the game. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the bar. Not an easy guy to take deep. Here’s Johnson. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Lars Newbar. [Music] Late swing, fouled to the left. got the bat going too soon at strike two. Movement in the Atlanta bullpen. Reel Glacius getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. and ball one. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Next pitch misses inside. Two and two. Well, he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here. 22. He’s already seen the curveball a couple of times in this at bat, so might have it timed up and ready for it. and a sling and a miss. And now one away. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Pedro Pah next up for the Cardinals. And that one fouled off. Next pitch is downstairs. This one popped off. Riley, he’s got it. There’s two away. So, digging in, Victor Scott. Now, this guy, a player that if he gets on base, has the ability to really be aggressive getting around the base pads, trying to bunt his way on. And that goes foul. Trying to send this to extra innings. Bunch attempt, but that goes foul. Two down, nobody on here. The last half of inning number nine. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Swing and a miss. and he chases that one in the dirt and it’s in time for the third out. So that’ll end the inning. So the closer summon from the bullpen, Ryan Hley coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Now in for the Braves, Eli White Sing, you got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. They had a strike right through there. That one in triple digits. fast for a strike. And I would say that most great defensive outfielders, it’s kind of natural. There is some work that you can do to it uh to improve your game, but ultimately you either have it or you don’t. And a swing and a miss. And here in the 10th, the leadoff man is out. That’s that classic wipeout slider below the zone right there. Just nasty. Looks like a fast ball thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it’s just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look silly. Now it’s the shortstop. Nick Allen 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Music] next offering upstairs. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. One out. The go-ahead run is at second. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Well, if he’s going to do something special right here, it’s going to have to happen with two strikes. fights that one away. Still one and two. Man at second. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. and delivers outside. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. fights it off. He’ll see another. Here’s a two- two. Stays alive. about to see the 11th pitch of the ifab here. Helley checks the runner. Akuna dives back in. Foul ball. Another two upcoming. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Nice work there to get the strike out. And that’s a big second out. I’ll tell you, this home crowd will be fired up. They can get out of this and leave that go ahead run stranded in scoring position. This is a big moment in this game. Proofar climbs in on that left side. One for four with a double. That’s in for a strike with the go-ahead run. Standing at second and here in extra innings. Swinging a foul out of play. battling here as he fouls it away. Oh, and he hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Making a move at first. Braves going with a pinch runner. Michael Harris II. Matt Olsen stepping to the plate in a big spot now. And that is out of play. fought off foul. First and second, two down here in the top half of the 10th. Swings and misses. Struck him out. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that executing and getting out of a tough inning. Back to the top of the order now. Now the left fielder Brendan Donovan 0 for four. Three fly outs and a strikeout. 10 in the dirt but no advance. That’s ball one. And the one eight. That one ripped. Jones, but it’s off his glove. No throw. A tough play. And now there are runners at first and second. I’m sure that feels pretty good after going hitless in this one so far. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. Hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly, but you can’t really blame the defense in that case. Really important back coming up now. Double steel pitch is high. Go to third. Save. Double steal. Wow, that’s a pretty elite throwing arm right there from the catcher spot. Pretty daring for him to try to steal third right there, but he gets the bag. Maybe the element of surprise was what came in because he’s not used to guys running on him. And right there, stealing third base probably caught him off guard a little bit. [Applause] Nobody out. The winning run 90 feet away. Almost got him. [Music] Swinging a ground ball up the middle across is the winning run and the Cardinals walk it off in extra innings. So exciting to see a team walk it off. Not so much fun if you’re on the other side, but what a great way to win. This team is celebrating and this win is welld deserved. [Music] And your final score here today, 2-1, a oneun extra inning win for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
