MLB LIVE🔴 Toronto Blue Jays vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 11, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining us. We’ve got baseball on the show. It’s the Toronto Blue Jays going up against the Athletics. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. just about set to go now. And on the mound today, Jeffrey Springs and Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, it hasn’t been a great year so far in terms of RA, but he’s had some decent games and there have been some flashes of greatness, if you will. We’ll see today if he’s able to get ahead of hitters and perhaps get some swings and misses, put himself in a position to bring that erra down because, you know, in the back of his mind beyond the W, he wants to have a better earned run average. In the air out towards right center, Clark settles under this one, hauls it in for the out. One away. Let’s take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays and one of the most exciting young stars in the sport, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. George Springer stands in here, takes ball one low. Springs, he has a reputation, I don’t know, maybe a knack for working himself out of tough situations that he finds himself in. You know, you like that in a relief pitcher, but when you have it for a starting pitcher, a guy that can get out of a tight spot, that is pretty valuable. And you won’t see the skipper rush to get somebody up in the bullpen as soon as he starts to see some signs of trouble. This guy’s earned a longer leash. And because of that, confidence grows with the players and teammates playing behind him that when things get a little rough out there, they know he’ll find his way through it. Next offering is fouled back. Two two now. Just misses with that one. How much of the ability to do that in a tight spot is the mental approach? I think it’s very much being able to have a laser-like focus, slow everything down, stay right in that moment, pitch to pitch, execution, and focusing on that catcher. Two out, space is empty. So, up next for Toronto, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. close one, doesn’t get the call. Ball one. Springs 32 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season. Two out space is empty. Outside low and that’s ball two. Who owes the count? And another ball. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. And that one off the inside edge. You walked him. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Bobette in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Get out of here, Blue Jays. And now the count is even. Foul ball. Guerrero off of first with two away. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout and that is the inning. One left for Toronto and the A’s will get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back here with my pal Singi and today’s starter Chris Basset. Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that ERA down. Now he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters, not nibble. Trust that his stuff can have late life in Miss Barl’s bets. And now the DH Lawrence Butler, Lawrence Butler. [Applause] That misses the zone and it’s one and0. the wind of the pitch and that’s down and away. Q ball. No strike. That’s a strike. Two and one now. Really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door. That pitch is devastating. edge of the zone for a strike and the count’s even at two. And a good eye there. Really good take especially with two strikes. Struck him out swinging. Pulled the string of the change up. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly he had him fooled. Now it’s the shorts stop. Jacob Wilson. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Ball one. One down. Base is empty. Bounce to third. Barker tosses across to first here tonight. An efficient start to the home first. Two away. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now. Brent Rooker and Boo. He’s a big time run producer for these guys, man. leading the team in homers, runs batted in, doing damage on the regular, man, making opposing pitchers just sweat out there. It’s kind of fun to watch. Get ready for a show when he steps into the box. Brent Rooker in now. Takes ball one off the plate. No strikes. And that one wrapped foul. Let’s go to baby. Let’s go. Two balls, one strike. Fouls. One off. Two and two. Two down. Do on. That one missing inside. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. To the right side. Clement to first. The A’s go quietly and one, two, three go the A’s. Scoreless after one. Second inning, set to go now. The third base, Addison Barer. Springs back to work. just missed. Next pitch is outside. Kenny Jansen doing home plate duties in this one. Not a huge strike zone from Jansen, so he can’t really be called a pitcher umpire, but he does like the bottom part of the strike zone. We may see some pitchers steal a few strikes down there, especially the ones right below the knees. That’s if their catcher can present it properly. That one finds the zone. Three and one. [Applause] That one misses. So, a leadoff walk. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. Catcher Alejandro. Alejandro Kirk next up for the Blue Jays. Late with the swing there. 01. Ruer at first with no outs here. line to left and that’s just fouled. [Music] That one just misses the outside corner and the count is one and two. Nobody out. Runner at first. Slides but he can’t come up with it. Lead runner to second. It’s a two on and nobody out. Good two strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some, so that was nicely done to beat the odds. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it, man. Sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel. Put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. First and second, no outs. Joey Lerido getting ready to hit. Swinging a high-fly ball down the right field line. [Music] He’s got it. Runner tags at second and he’s in safely at third with one out. Batting eight, second baseman, Ernie Clement. Now it’s the second baseman, Ernie Clement. Keep an eye on this at bat because even though it’s early, it could change the outcome of this game. Look for your pitch and attack it. And fouled off. [Applause] Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Finds a corner. That’s strike two. Big pitch right here. He’s going to try to make a pitch. It’s going to produce a strike out or a ground ball double play. And a swing in the huge strike out there. Certainly a strikeout situation right there. the infield playing back and this pitcher has to step up and get the swing and miss. Really nice job of attacking the hitter at the plate. Pretty big two out at bat coming up now. Davis Schneider next up for the Blue Jays. [Applause] Fouled off down the right side. [Applause] No score here in the second. [Applause] This one popped up right side. Gella on the move. Squeezes it and that’s the third out. Two left on now to the bottom of the second. No score. And welcome back to the ballpark. We head to the bottom of the second. Now it’s the rookie first baseman Nick Curtis. Pitch in the dirt. One and0. [Applause] Yeah, that’s fouled off [Music] out to short. Bette. He puts it in his pocket. Safe at first without a play. It doesn’t really matter where you are in the lineup. Your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you’re leading off an inning. An infield single does the job right there. Now we’ll see if they can make something happen. [Applause] That one fouled off. Now a fly ball to right center. Lucas sizes this one up. Makes the grab. One away. Batting six left fielder Tyler Soderstrom. So up next, Tyler Soderstrom. He set a new career high in home runs this year. and Singi, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible now. [Music] And that’s in for a strike. One though, the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff, so he’s going to have to work efficiently. And it’s through for him. They fired in quickly. So, it’s first and second with only one away. Next up for the A’s, Maxy. A little out front there as he swings through it. No ball, one strike. Kurts the lead runner at second. Soderstrom at first. One gone. One. Squirts away a little bit and an excellent job keeping it right there. [Applause] Ground ball right side could be two. Throws to second for one. Relay to Guerrero in time. Inning ending double play. So it’s no runs, two hits, no errors, and one left. We play two full. We’re tied. Nothing nothing. And we’re back. And now with center fielder, Nathan Lucas. Nathan Lucas. [Music] That’s in there. Strike one. And it’s way a miss quickly in another two count. You got to figure out a way to shorten your path to the baseball. Put it in play somewhere. Then you got a chance. Cut misses. It’s a strike out. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of buckling away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. Here’s George Springer. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Springer swings, belts one out to left. Going back. Going. Gone. And the Blue Jays have the lead now. It’s one- nothing. He sent the first pitch over the wall. Must have dinner reservations cuz he wasn’t wasting any time at the plate in that at bat. Man, he just barely got that one out of here. And you got to love the effort in left to try and bring it back. He had a good shot at it. Just couldn’t quite pull it off. It would have been a stunner if he did. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. now. And that one is in for a strike. I love the fact that we’ve seen both Vladimir Guerrero and Vlatty Jr. win the home run derby. They’re the first fatherson duo to ever win it. Vlatty back in 2007 and Vlatty Jr. in 2023. even though his dad didn’t give him any advice for the event other than to go out there and hit home runs. One strike just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike 02 count instead it’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. Next offering is in for a strike. [Music] Got him now. Five strikeouts for him on the mound. Bob Bashette gets a chance to hit. His first at bat was a strike out. [Applause] And that one upstairs. Ball one. That one misses. Now 2 and 0. [Applause] Fast ball and he gets out of the way. Straighten him up a little bit. [Applause] Three ball. One strike. Two down. Base is empty but one run across. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Swaying in a ball popped in the air and that is fouled [Applause] in the air left side. Sodstrom on his way over makes the grab and that is that. Jays open it up with a solo homer. It’s now one- nothing. Major League Baseball is on the show, ready to go for the last half of the inning. Here’s the second base, Zack Gellof, looking for his first big league hit right here. And a strike. swing and a miss as he was late that time. No ball. Two strikes. [Applause] Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. batting ninth. Denzel Clark the next to hit Clark. And that one fouled off. That’s inside and one and one right through there for a strike. [Applause] Foul ball left side. He’ll see another swinging a ground ball up the middle. Clement over to first and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. Shows right there why he’s considered one of the best middle infielders in the score. That’s always a tough play going up the middle on the backhand. But what really made this play happen was that quick release, smooth exchange, and that was as smooth as it gets. And it had to be with the wheels going down the line. Ripped to third, but handled, and that’ll end the inning. A’s go quickly and quietly there. They still trail one- nothing. As we go to the top of the fourth, here’s the third base, Addison Barker. This one chopped on the ground, but foul. Well, these Jays doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only given up one run, but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. Swinging a miss and two. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Center field. Clark gets under it, nabs it, and there’s one away. Up next for the Blue Jays, in steps the man they call Captain Kirk. One for one with a single so far. Kirk 26 years old and he’s a native of Mexico. One out, base is empty. ball and that is in for a strike now. Two and one and that one missing low. Go, baby. Let’s go. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. It’s his eighth home run of the year and they add to the lead. It’s two nothing. So, Singy, this is a little bit of a surprise. A guy known for line drives, hits going over the fence. Well, if you’re a little too early, you’ll get some elevation in the ball to get out of the ballpark. For him, it’s kind of a mistake. But you know what? When you have such a good approach every now and then, you’re going to run into one. Base is empty, one away. Now, it’s going to be Joey Lrafido. on the ground. Gellof jump throw on the money. Nice play. Now batting second base Ernie Clement. Two down, base is empty. And next for Toronto, Ernie Clement. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. Throw and one. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. [Applause] Hit in the air. Right field. Rooker. He’s got it. And that’ll end the inning. Toronto picks up one on this homer. It’s now a two nothing ball game. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the short stop at the plate. Jacob Wilson. Wilson swinging a foul straight back. Andy O2 ball one there. [Applause] ground ball right side. Steps on first for the out. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat outside. One ball, no strike. That one catches the zone and it’s one and one. One ball, one strike. And there’s a ball [Applause] [Music] there. The 2-1 hammered but foul. The Jays leading by two. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth and it remains two and two. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Two- two now. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Lifted in the air left field. Pretty well struck. Lucas sizing this one up. They got it for out number two. Now batting number 16. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Nick Curts. Reached on an infield single his first time just off the inside edge. You want to be patient here. Try to work a walk if you can. You’ve got a big power bat behind you in the on deck circle and with two outs, one swing can put you right back in this ball game. And now it’s even up. One-1 swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. One ball, two strikes. And a ground ball to first. tosses to the pitcher covering the bag and he has thrown four shut out innings and the A’s are gone in order and they’re down two nothing ready now for the fifth inning now the left fielder Davis Schneider Davis Schneider Springs back to work that one outside and that is ball one. That’s down and in. Two. Missed with a change up and that’s ball three. Three balls. No strike. [Music] That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Back to the leadoff spot in the Blue Jays lineup. Nathan Lucas next up for the Blue Jays. Bowl for two in this one. Come on. First pitch just misses. Schneider aboard here at first with nobody out. Right side and it goes just foul. [Music] struck him out looking. Well, that’s not the best two strike fast ball I’ve seen, but certainly got away with the location there. You know, sometimes as a hitter when you’re down in the count, you’re so focused on a pitcher painting the black and you just get a little bit locked up on something down the heart of the plate, not expecting it and it just kind of freezes you. Springer batting with one down, takes the strike. That’s off the inside corner. One and one. [Music] Swing and a miss. There’s that change up. Pitch misses outside and it’s two and two. Man at first, one away. popped up left side. Wilson makes the catch for the out. Two away now. Now batting the first baseman, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. He is struck out and he is walked. And that misses. And that’s ball one. And that’s in there at the knees. Next offering is in for a strike. And that’s downstairs and outside. Fall three. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. Here’s the swing and a line drive and a base hit to right field. Throw stops the lead runner at second. Two on and two out. Boette up to the dish. Look out. and it hit him. Well, there’s no hiding in this spot. Base is loaded now and no more wiggle room for any more mistakes like that. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Jeffrey Springs gives way and it wasn’t his best start, but he kept him in it to this point and we’ll come back with a new arm. So, a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s, Jacob Lopez. The southpaw’s been really good against left-handed hitters. [Applause] Addison Barker next up for the Blue Jays. He’s 0 for one. [Applause] Line drive. Base hit. One run is in. Here comes the throw, but it’s offline. He will score. It’s 4 zip. His confidence level is so high. Really nice job of coming through in a big spot. That pretty much split the zone down the middle. And those are the ones where you got to make them pay. And here’s the catcher, Alejandro Kirk. He’s already homered in this game. Squirts away from Langaliers. No trouble moving up to second on that play with the ball getting that far away from the catcher. Nice job to take advantage of the wild pitch. Two on, two outs. Swinging a liner foul off to the right. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And fast ball misses outside for a ball and it’s two and one. [Applause] Two outs and that is out of play. [Applause] stays alive. Look out. That ball is smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just ensure safety for the fans. Last thing is a player you want to swing and a base hit. One run across now. A long throw home. It’s off the mark and he scores. It’s 6 nothing and his not hitting continues. They kept him in the yard that time, but all he’s doing now is passing the baton and everything seems to get started around this guy. Joey Lopero next up for the Blue Jays. Crush to right. This one’s got a chance. Out of here. Home run. He circles the bases, his second of the year. And they add a pair. It’s 8 nothing. With a low 90s fast ball, you have to live on the edges and hit your spots. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient, waited for it. He was like BP all over again. There comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Jacob Lopez is done. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. Now pitching a new arm into the game. The righty number 50. He’s making his fourth appearance of the season. Now it’s the second baseman, Ernie Clement. Check swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. No balls, one strike. The big six spot already on the board this inning and we’re in the top of the fifth. Next offering is downstairs. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Shawn Nukem, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. [Applause] swing at a ball popped in the air and that will fall and that keeps the inning alive. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. Schneider in the box now. No balls in a strike. [Applause] ball. One ball, one strike. [Applause] Gets him to chase after that one. One ball, two strikes. [Applause] Little bit high. Two and two. Two two. And that one upstairs. Clement leads off first with two down to the inning. [Applause] Check on the runner and he’s back in safely. And they’ll do it again. [Applause] Hammered base hit and out to a board right there. does a great job of staying in the big part of the field. Man, there are a lot of hits there. Nathan Lucas digs in now. [Applause] That one’s upstairs. Ball one. [Applause] swing and a pop off in foul ground. Muny makes the play and that is that. But six runs here in the inning have taken a close game and broken it wide open. Home half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Blue Jays eight and the A’s nothing. This one isn’t exactly close, Chris. Let’s go off script for a moment. I’m game. Were we on script? Never. All right, Syi Inpark Entertainment. You got a favorite mascot race? Yeah, I love what they do in DC with the former presidents. Somebody always gets tackled. They always get hurt. I know. It’s just crazy. Imagine running around in those big bulky suits and somebody’s always going to go down. Swang get a ball popped up. Clement. Drops into the glove and there’s one down. The offense needs to start showing some fight against this starter. He’s doing his thing out there. They’re going to have to push back at some point and make him work a little bit harder. Here’s the left fielder, Tyler Soderstrom. A single his first time. That’s in there. Strike one. Base is empty. One away. Last half of inning number five. Next pitch downstairs and the count even. One and one. That one missed. 2-1. [Applause] hit pretty well in the air out to center. Lucas sizes this one up, hauls it in for the out and there’s two down. Now batting third baseman. Next up for the A’s, Max. He hit into a double play his first time up. There’s a strike. looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Swing and a miss. No balls, two strikes. Looking sharp just a strike away from five shut out innings. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. This one in the air. And that ends the inning. Nothing doing there for the A’s and they’re on the short end of an eight nothing score. And we’re back. Here’s George Springer to start it off. With this kind of lead, he can swing freely, try to hit the ball out of the park, do what he loves to do. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. First pitch swing in. Went up there with a plan to be aggressive. Just kept it simple. Played pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will hit next. Right through there for a strike. Well, these Blue Jays showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. The numbers say their chase rate or swings at pitches outside the zone is under 25% and I think that’s a big reason why they’re scoring runs. Out to center, Clark under it, corrals it and there’s one down. By not chasing out of the zone, they’re getting good pitches to hit. When you can do that, you have a much better chance to square up the baseball and do damage like they have so far. And now the Toronto cleanup hitter Bobette. Throw over to first and in there safely. In there for strike one. Springer leads off first with one away. Next offering is in for a strike. And that’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike with the situation, runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground and you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play. Fouls it back with two strikes. [Music] Let’s go to baby. Here’s the O2. Goes down swinging for the strike out. Had him way out front of the slur. Well, clearly just anxious right there. And understandably so in an 02 count, you feel like you’ve got a lot of plate to cover and you don’t want to strike out and you end up striking out. That’s just one of those pitches where it’s not over the plate, but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand, by the time you realized it wasn’t going to be in the zone, it’s too late to hold up your sway. Barger stands in now and watches strike one. The Blue Jays up big in this one and we’re the top half of the six. Springer on the run. Ball misses. Throw there. Safe. Well, with that kind of elite arm he has behind the plate, man, it’s a pretty big deal when you can swipe a bag against this dude. Maybe more than anything, it prevents teams from just testing him, thinking that they can even steal a base. But right here, they successfully move that runner up to scoring position. Good job. The one that’s a little bit low. Two balls, one strike. drilled in the air high and deep right field. That’s back and that one’s gone. [Music] He leaves the yard to right. His 13th home run of the season. And they add a couple more. It’s 10 nothing. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop. And they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage, even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one. Nice piece of hitting there at the plate. Two outs, nobody on. Alejandro Kirk next up for the Blue Jays. And that’s through their first strike. It’s 0 and one. [Applause] [Applause] and it’s fouled away. [Applause] Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. The Jays get a pair on this homer. It’s now 10 zip. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Bottom of the inning. Here’s the second base, Zack Gellof. There’s one thing on his mind this bat. Getting that first hit at the big league level. Let’s go. Pitches in the dirt. Ball one. You know, these athletics just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. They’ve been chasing pitches outside the zone all game and it’s led to some frustrating moments. They’ve been fooled quite a bit today. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. [Music] CIA strikes him out for the second time today. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Denzel Clark now at the plate. He’s 0 for one. Boo. This guy’s just a tremendously talented center fielder. Gold glove caliber type out there. Offensively, he can do some things, but you know, also has some streakiness as well. I think the key just trying to find a way for him to be consistent day in and day out. You know, he saves runs in the outfield, so that’s going to buy him more time to work things out at the dish. Next offering is in for a strike. He’s been going after these guys consistently, and as a result, he’s been able to keep his pitch count low, throwing the ball very well right now. The Athletics with a lot of ground to make up here in the bottom of the sixth. Swing and a miss. And now two and two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Boogie just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count off at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. So the lineup flips over. Next is the designated hitter, Lawrence Butler. First pitch and he just misses on the ground right side and foul ball. That one misses and a count two and one. [Applause] just missed a rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. That pitch clips the outside corner and a full countdown. Look out. [Music] Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. Two down. Do on. That one lined in left field. That’s base hit. There you go. Now batting should stop. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. Wilson having a really nice first season in the big leagues. Definitely a rookie of the year candidate. Fought off foul. [Music] in the air right field lido and that will end the inning. Make it six shut out innings for him out there. Now it’s the Blue Jays 10 and the A’s nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the top of the seventh. And now for the Jays. Joey Lopeido. [Music] ball 200 to count and that’s a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Well, patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Digging in Ernie Clement and takes low for ball one. Lido gets his lead at first with nobody out. And another ball. [Music] They had a foul ball. Misses off the inside. Now three and one. 3-1. Swing and a ball lifted in the air left field. Pretty well struck and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases. Across is the runner from first and they extend their lead. But when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Number 50 won’t go any further and he’s responsible for the runner on second so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for the Mitch Spence gets handed the rock out of the pin. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score. Davis Schneider the next to hit and that’s in for a strike. [Applause] No outs. Runner on second. [Applause] He swings and fouls one off. Ball one there. [Applause] And a popup right side foul territory makes the catch and there’s one gone. [Applause] Here’s the center fielder Nathan Lucas. [Applause] That’s off the mark and it’s one and0. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Shawn Nukem, the left-hander, up and throwing. Number 49, the right-hander loosening up as well. Pitch misses and that’s ball two. One out and a runner at second here in the top half of inning number seven. That one’s in there. And that’s strike one. [Applause] [Applause] And he hits a ground ball right side. Gellof throw to first in time. Now batting designated hitter George Springer. And it’ll be George Springer to step to the plate. He’s already homerred here in this one. [Applause] Pitch misses. One and0. Runner at third. Two away. [Applause] liner and this could be trouble. In comes the run from third to add on. It’s a double. Third hit of the night for him. Comes through with the RBI. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Man had scored position with two away. And now the first swing and a ball lined out towards center. Reaches but can’t haul it in. They extend their lead as the runner scores from second. It’s an RBI single and the lead continues to grow. So man aboard and the batter will be the shortstop. Boishette 0 for three in this one. There’s the strike. Spence, 26 years old, and he was a 10th round pick back in 2019. [Applause] Swings through that one for strike two. No ball. Two strikes. [Music] [Applause] Got him swinging. [Applause] Three runs on, four hits, no errors, and one left off. Midway in inning number seven, and it’s time to stretch. The Jays are out in front 13 to nothing. Set for the last half of the seventh. And now the right fielder Brent Rooker. Brent Rooker. And there’s a rocket into the outfield. Had a good start to the inning. Now batting number 16. And here’s the first baseman, Nick Curts. One for two. [Applause] Check swing and he went. Strike one. Well, the leadoff man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. [Music] Let’s keep it going. Ground ball left side could be two. Offbalance feed. There’s one to Guerrero and they turn two. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leagers. They make tough plays look simple. Two outs, space is empty. Next to hit, Shay Langelers. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller. Good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. Guerrero. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Still in total command on the mound with seven shut out innings. Jays lead it 13 to nothing. Ready to begin the eighth. Now at the plate, Addison Barker. Addison. you come into the game knowing that unless the ball’s in the dirt or gets by him, we’re probably not going to steal anything today. So, that’s where you want to get a little more aggressive on your secondary lead and hope that some base hits, some slog, some home runs can come into play. Well, I’ll say this as a former position player and base stealer. When you come into a game and you’ve got a guy like this behind the dish with a big arm, you really have to change your approach. can’t try to steal because you’ll get thrown out. Maybe get a little bigger lead, be aggressive on the secondary, but this type of guy shuts the running game down. Got him looking for the K. Couldn’t pull the trigger on a fast ball at the knees. Alejandro Kirk next up for the Blue Jays. Alejandro Kirk. It’s amazing. We get a chance to talk to a lot of opposing managers. This guy scares managers on the other team as much as anyone. And he gets to fly beneath the radar with the other more recognizable names in this lineup. The Jays up big in this one. And we’re in the top of the eighth. up the middle now. The throw to first on the run. It’s there and that’s a great play. Now batting right fielder Joey Loperito. Two down base is empty. So up next for Toronto, Joey Lerido. Fouled off left side. That one blasted deep to right. That’s back there. Gone. Another homer. His second home run of the game. It’s 14 nothing. That’s their fifth homer of the game. Man, they’re all getting into the action. It’s starting to feel like a home run derby up here. Well, he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time. Took a direct path to the ball, excellent extension, and just drove it out of here. Nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that. [Applause] Ernie Clement next up for the Blue Jays [Applause] and first offering is fouled off. [Applause] On the ground to third, handles, throws to first and the inning is over. One in the inning and it comes from a rather unlikely power source. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Ryan Burr. He’s making his second appearance of the season. Number 43. Now here is Tyler Soderstrom. [Applause] and ball one. Movement in the bullpen. Braden Fiser appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Sliced hard but fouled down the left side. Some real good life going through the zone on that one. The 1-1 is fouled off. Ball two. [Applause] Not close with that one. And it’s three and two. bows that off to the left and will do it again. Payoff pitch on the ground to third. Lead off man is out here in the eighth. Up next for the A’s, third baseman, Max Maxy up next for the A’s. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. [Music] hammers that one deep left field and forget it. That’ll fire up the dugout. His ninth homer of the year and they’re on the scoreboard. It’s 14-1. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the long and gets the home run. Next up for the A’s, Zack Yell, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Fast ball for a strike. No ball, one strike. [Applause] Highf fly ball shallow right field. Lfido snags it for the second out. Now betting the center fielder Denzel Clark. Two outs, space is empty. And now the center fielder Denzel Clark. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offensive side for just a second. Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat, automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have. This one’s into the outfield. Could be extra bases. And that’s a two out double. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. So digging in, Lawrence Butler, one for three. [Applause] That clips a corner. Rudder at second. Two down. [Applause] swings through that one out in front that time. [Applause] That misses the zone. Going to count one and two. Two strikes. And there’s a ball. Two, two, [Applause] swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. Here’s the throw to the plate. Save it and home and the runner scores from second and it’s 14-2. Runner at first with two away. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. And that drops in for a strike. 01 in the air left field. Schneider under this one. makes the catch and that is the third out of the inning. They put two on the board on three hits including the home run. No errors and one man left through eight full. Toronto leads this one 14-2. And we’re back all set for the start of the inning. Now the left fielder Davis Schneider Spence back to work. And a curb misses outside. [Applause] Top of the zone for a strike and the count one and one. [Applause] Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Calls it in. And there’s one away. Now batting the center fielder, Nathan Lucas. Nathan Lucas next up for the Blue Jays. [Applause] And a foul ball. One down. Base is empty. Foul ball there. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt. On to first and there’s two gone following the strike out. Third time he struck out in this one. And definitely an individual performance you want to flush. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable up there. Just one of those days. But when you’re still winning the ball game, at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain that lead and getting that W. And the batter is George Springer. And it may be a long shot, but a triple here will give him the cycle. Swing and a ground ball. Base hit right field. Zoe gets on base and keeps it going. Wastes no time there. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. next up for the Blue Jays. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. [Applause] The 01. Oh, this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat. If he’s not ready to pull the trigger, he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. So, no runs here on a base hit. No errors and one left. Hard to the order. 345 will get their shot in the bottom of the ninth. The Blue Jays on top 14-2. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s the right fielder Brent Rooker. Brent Rooker. [Applause] And the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Not sure if he was expecting for the pitcher to come right at him, but he got a nice cookie there and just watched it the entire way. [Applause] comes up empty. That’s strike two. He normally does damage on that pitch in that location. Just a swing and a miss there. I don’t think you want to throw it again though. And that one upstairs. Ball one. O2 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. [Applause] Good eye right there. Two balls, two strikes. [Applause] [Applause] That one ripped way back there. And that is a foul ball. [Applause] Full count. [Music] [Applause] keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. [Applause] That one misses. So a lead off walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Man at first, nobody out. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Nick Curts. [Applause] Close but called a ball. And that’s ball one. Rooker gets his lead at first. Nobody out [Applause] inside. Now 2 and 0. [Applause] No. Off the plate. [Applause] and ball four to a board. Now that a catcher, here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Ryan Burr will depart and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching four gets the ball. Now compared to some days, this is a pretty low leverage appearance for him. So he should be fairly free and easy out there. Still have to keep yourself sharp and attack the strike zone. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers. [Applause] and misses inside. First and second, no outs. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. [Applause] Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. The 1-1. That’s a ball. Tried the sweeper. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. [Applause] That’s out to center field. Lucas under it. Brings it in. One down. Now batting left fielder Tyler Soderstrom. Tyler Soderstrom up next for the A’s. First pitch misses. Runners at first and second with one gone here in the last half of inning number nine. Next offering is fouled back. One and two here. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. [Applause] Got him for the strike out and they’re down to their last out. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Muny in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Coming home, the throw in, but it’s offline. It’s 14- three now. And now Zack Gellof 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. Right through there for a strike. and that one fouled off. One strike away. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that is the ball game. When you win five in a row, the confidence just goes to another level and you start to gain this momentum and you think that you’re never going to lose a game again because things are clicking up and down the lineup. Pitchers are pitching, the team is making the plays defensively. This is the kind of feeling it’s not going to last all season long, but you want to ride it as long as you possibly can, perhaps push it up to double digits. 143 the final score for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
