MLB LIVE🔴 New York Mets vs Kansas City Royals – Jul 11, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello baseball fans and welcome inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the New York Mets going up against the Kansas City Royals. And we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. So almost ready to get underway and today’s starting pitcher, Seth Lugo. Tell us about him in that sub3 RA. Sigy. Well, anytime you can keep your ERA under three, you’re doing a lot of things right and you’re putting your team in a position to win a lot of ball games as well. And he’s doing tremendous out there on the mound. Every time he gets the ball, you expect him to go out there and dominate. And that’s what he’s been to this point. We’ll see how he is today. Swing and a ball lined out towards center. Is makes the grab. One pitch and one out. Let’s take a peek at the Mets lineup here. The sluggers in this lineup might not be too happy about the fact that the wind is blowing in today, Chris. Yeah. And you hear pitchers talk about how good it feels when the wind is at their back. And for hitters, you almost feel like beyond just the pitcher coming at you, you’ve got this other force coming against you. So important to try to get on top of the ball in terms of hitting line drives. You know, maybe really hard ground balls with a good exit velocity that’ll get you a base hit because it’s And now this one’s a rocket to right way back there. Gone. his 19th home run of the year. It’s one- nothing. That was blasted. Absolutely. No doubt off the bat. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Wooto now. And first offering is fouled off. One out. Base is empty. Right through there for a strike. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Two outs. Base is empty. Here’s Pete Alonso. That one fouled off. Two down. Nobody on. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Finish him. Down to the dirt. Swing and a miss. In time. The two-3 strikeout ends the inning. Another look at the long ball from Francisco Lindor. It’s now one- nothing. back here at Kaufman Stadium. Today’s starting pitcher, number 52, Singy. He’s kind of a road warrior. Yeah, I definitely say so. You know, some guys shrink a little bit on the road. They’re so used to just, you know, having the comforts of being at home and having the fans behind them. But this guy seems to thrive in adversity and being in some hostile environment. So, when you have a player like this on your team that goes out there and competes, you definitely like your chances away from your home ballpark. Next pitch is outside. [Music] Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. Now here’s Bobby Wit Jr. third baseman playing on the edge of the grass looking for the sack bunt and a first pitch fast is in for a strike. You know Boo, this is a player with some serious speed. In 2023 he became the first player in 20 years to record two infield hits and an inside the park home run in the same game. The one runner on the move pitch in for a strike throw save. That’s a stolen base. Having a good lead is so key when you’re stealing bases. Even if you’ve got great speed, but if you don’t have great speed, but can get an extended lead and a good jump, you can steal bases on a catcher who can really throw it. That’s a nice job right there. close but called a ball and it’s one and two. Very close pitch there and that was a big one. Clearly he thought he got the inside corner on the mound and he’s showing his frustration a little bit. [Music] Fouled off and they’ll do it again. It’s so hard to slow yourself down when you see that juicy breaking ball, but the most success happens when you try to take that right back up the middle approach. That one 95 to finish him off. Yeah, that’s a tough pitch to stay on. You don’t want to get beat inside. And as you see that pitch continue to run away from you by the time it’s in the catcher’s mid, you think it’s a ball off the plate away. And the batter now, Vinnie Pasquantino. Vinnie. That one misses. And that’s ball one. Check. swing and that’s a ball. [Music] Late swing fouled to the left. Cut on and lifted in the air. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two down. [Music] And here now the lineup for the Royals. Batting second, a really important guy for them. Bobby Wit Jr. Yeah, definitely someone I always enjoy, you know, when I get a chance to watch him, whether he’s hitting in a game or even taking swings during batting practice. Man, this guy is always so focused on what he’s doing on that task at hand. He’s got so much attention to detail that when he steps in the box, his success rate is really high. Fouled off left side. Look out. That ball was smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the line just ensure safety for the fans. Last thing, as a player, you want to look up and see a fan get hit. Just missed. up the middle handles throws to first and the inning is over. Royals leave one. They trail here one- nothing. Second inning set to go. And stepping in for New York, Jesse Winker. Lugo back to work. Fought off foul right down to shoot and the count is 0 and two. Well, We call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Just misses. And that’s ball one. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. fans. Another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Jeff McNeel stands in. McNast for a strike. Laser could be trouble now. He’ll turn for second. And that’s a double. That pretty much split the zone down the middle. And those are the ones where you got to make them pay. Luis Torren up now for the Mets. And he pumps in a strike in the air right field that holds the lead runner. And now they’ve got two in scoring position. That’s two consecutive extra base hits for this team. He hit that ball really well to deep right field right there. Got a pitch to drive and just stayed through it nicely. Didn’t quite have the trajectory to clear the fence, but you’re always happy with an extra base hit. So two in scoring position with one out. Ronnie Mauricio now. Golden opportunity right here. That one to first and he handles it himself for the out. Brett Brett Batty up now for the Mets. Just missed. [Music] Left hand batter waits. That one close. Rule the ball. Ball two. Two balls. No strike. [Music] Two outs. Two in scoring position here in the top of the second. That misses and now three and 0. Well, I would expect in this three 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you. Pitch is in there and the count is three and one. And there’s a strike of the outside corner. Okay. Got him. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Back here in Kansas City, bottom of the inning. So up now for Kansas City. Salvador Perez in the air out towards right center. Sodto going after it. Hauls it in for the out. that exists the right. Here’s the rookie right fielder Jack Kaggle Leone. And that one in there at the knees for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Foul ball there. [Music] Swigs through that one. It’s a strike out. Just overmatched on that fast ball right there. And it wasn’t like he was set up for it by something off speed earlier in the at bat. just came right after him with three straight and he had no answer for it. So up next, Nick Loftton and that’s in there for strike one. That one’s upstairs. Ball one in the air out towards left center. Lindor makes the play and it’s out number three. Nothing across here this half. We head on down to the top of the third. It’s the Mets one and the Royals nothing. Top half of the third inning. Here’s the Mets leadoff man Brandon NMOM. NMO 31 years old and he’s one of the few players in Major League Baseball born in the state of Wyoming. On the ground and that’s just fouled. And now two and one. There’s the strike [Applause] and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Music] Outside and it’s three and two. lifted in the air down the left side. Three and it’s caught for the out. Now up to Francisco Lindor. He’s already homered in this game. And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch to hit on a TE up in the zone. I think he was looking for something else right there. One down. Base is empty. Ground ball right side and it goes just foul and a foul ball. He stays alive. And that one is inside ball one. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mount, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. Waves at the bender for the strike out. Got away with that curveball. No doubt about it. It passed right through the heart of the strike zone and he just couldn’t get the bat on it. When you strike out on one like that, that’s when you start having conversations with yourself and they’re not usually very friendly. And first offering is fouled off. Two out. Space is empty. Hit in the air out to center field is Bells it in to end the inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Mets one and the Royals nothing. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. And now here is John Ray. Ray. And that drops in for a strike. This one chopped on the ground but foul. [Music] And down on strikes he goes. That K is his third of the game. Oh, just a beautiful fast ball on the inside corner for that backwards K right there. I think the hitter saw it all the way coming from that opposite arm angle. So, I got to think he was looking away and just got locked up by the heart stuff boring in on his hands. And now it’s Kyle Isbel. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. First offering and it just misses. Counts one and0. And that one off the outside edge. swing and a miss as he was out front that time. [Music] That’s off the inside corner. And that’s ball three. Line to second. Snagged on the bounce. slings to first and that quickly two away. So the batting order turns over. Jonathan India steps in for the Royals. Come on. Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground ball. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. And next up for the Royals, Bobby Wit Jr. struck out looking his first time. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. slapped the other way. Foul. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. That breaking ball is in for a strike and quickly it is nothing at two. [Music] Good eye right there. That’s the third and he can’t come up with it. No throw. Safe at first. And we’ll see if it’s an error. number. First and second, two outs. Vinnie Pasquentino steps in for the Royals. He’s 0 for one. Fast for a strike. And now the count is even. One ball, one strike. Swing and a miss. Nice change up. One ball, two strike. That one missed. First and second, two down here in the last half of the third. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming [Music] swing and a ball lifted in the air. shallow left field brings it in and that is the inning. Royals strand a pair and it remains one- nothing out of the fourth and stepping in for New York Pete Alonzo. If you don’t get ahead in the count you can forget about having any success against him. clips the corner. That’s strike one. Over 80% of his first pitches are strikes. You’re doing that, you could have a really good day out there on the mound. Ball one there. That’s a good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you get a broken back as you jog back to the dugout on the ground right side. Finds its way through base hit. Had a good start to the inning. Here’s Jesse Winker caught looking his first time up. And that one upstairs, ball one. Well, these Mets do a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only given up one run, but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. And there’s the strike. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Next offering is in for a strike. One ball, two strikes inside and hit him. He had him one, two, and he ends up hitting him with a pitch. First and second, no outs. So up next for New York, Jeff McNeel doubled in his first AB. Just missed. 10. [Music] grounder might be two with toss to second back to first and that is a double play. They made that double play look so easy but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Luis Torren up now for the Mets. doubled his first time up. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Finish him. and misses inside. Come on and miss. Strike him out. And that’s six Ks for him in this one. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. We’re midway in the fourth. It’s the Mets one and the Royals nothing. Bottom four. Now it’ll be the cleanup hitter for the Royals. Mel Garcia. And that curveball drops in there for a strike. [Music] Fall inside. This one lifted in the air left field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. One away. Salvador. And now it’s Salvador Perez to the plate. Flyed to right. His first time. That one backed up the middle and it gets through. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. First pitch swing in. Went up there with a plan to be aggressive. Timing on the swing was good. able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Run around at first with one gone and now Jack Paggle Leone 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time and that one clips the corner. the change up missing and that is ball one. Tying run is at first. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth and a count one and two. [Music] and he chases that one. He’s notched four strikeouts now. That’s a pretty nasty pitch right there. I’d call it a power curveball in the 80s. It’s got so much spin on it and you really don’t have a lot of time to sit back and watch what it’s going to do before you have to commit. It was a good one for the swinging strikeout. So, two down now and here is Nick Loftton. And there’s a foul ball. [Applause] Fouled off down the right side. Let’s go. Let’s go. Foul ball still 0 and two. Man, he’d like to have that pitch back. Two outs towards first and there’s a base hit to right field. They stop the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. [Applause] Now here is John Ray. First pitch doesn’t find his zone. And that catches the low inside corner. Good fast. Smash to the left side. They take the force out and he has thrown four shut out innings. Two left on. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the Mets one and the Royals nothing. And we’re back. And now it’s switch hitting third baseman Ronnie Mauricio. Lugo back to work. Yeah, there’s a ball. That’s a ball. Yeah, that’s fouled off. The 1-1 is fouled off. fights that one away. Still one and two. Just misses the mark outside the zone. fights it off. He’ll see another. I would throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Little bit low. And now it’s three and two. Blind drive. He’s got it. Wow, that was an awesome leaping catch. Great reactions, great athleticism, man. He snatched that thing out of the air and he robbed him of a base hit. Now it’s the second baseman, Brett Batty. Went down on strikes his first time through. That misses the zone. Ball one. Swing and a tapper. Perez gets it to first out on a bang bang play, but he made it close. So the lineup flips over. Brandon NMO up now for the Mets. Bowl for two in this one. bounced and that got the pitcher. Fires to first on the run. Safe at first and an infield single keeps the inning going and now they’ll hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on a knee. Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue. Francisco Lindor comes up to the plate. He’s already homered here in this one. Just missed. NMO the runner at first with two gone. up the middle dives but it kicks off his glove. No throw and they can’t get the out. First and second, two outs. Here’s Wanoto line drive. That’s a base hit. Runner around third on his way to the plate. He’ll score easily. Well, here we are. Third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. So, two down and now it’s the polar bear Pete Lonzo one for two. And that one fouled off. Traffic on the bases with one already in and we’re in the top of the fifth. The next offering misses and it’s a ball and a strike. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Michael Laorenzan getting loose out there. Clark also getting ready. that fast, even though it’s up, that’s the velocity you want to go after. Low 90s a lot better than trying to hit the high 90s. Two on, two outs. Just misses with that one. spoils that one and it remains two and two. [Music] Swaying and a miss and that is that they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now a two nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show and welcome back to the ballpark. John Shabi with my buddy Chris Singleton. It’s set to get us started. Bottom five, Kyle Isel. Come on, let’s do this. That’s in for a strike. Well, these Royals just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. They’re trying to find ways to drive the ball with some authority, but it’s just not happening for him so far. Zero extra base hits in the game. So, it’s been tough for him to get anything going. And there’s one down. Sometimes you have to keep chipping away until you break through. But it’s a lot easier to put runs on the board when you have guys in scoring position because they put themselves there. That one hooked foul. Just missed. out. The Royals trailing by two. Last half of inning number five. Next offering is in for a strike. Look pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away in the air pretty deep out to center field. NMO ranging after it. Brings it in. And there’s two away. Well, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Whit in now takes ball one off the plate. That one ripped but fouled. The 1-1 is fouled off. Two down to foul ball left side. And he’ll see another swing in a miss. Struck him out. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. KC down in order. They’re still down. It’s two zip. Michael Lorenzan taking over on the mound. Pretty tight game. So, they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Here’s the left fielder, Jesse Winker. Laorenza goes 6′ 3 in. He features a four seam fast, a slider, a change up, a sinker, and occasionally uses a cutter. And that one fouled off. There’s a 1-1. And that one upstairs on the ground right side. Whips it to first. And Winker is set down. And now here’s Jeff McNeel. McNeel. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. One and0. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. He swings and fouls one off. Ball a strike. The pitch just missed. [Music] This one ripped but foul to the right. [Music] That’s a little bit low. [Music] You got this. Battling here as he fouls it away. A swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Luis Torren up now for the Mets. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. That misses and it’s one and0. When you got a catcher like this guy with a big arm like that behind the plate, it really shuts down the running game. Next pitch misses, two balls, no strikes. Well, I’ll say this. As a former position player and base stealer, when you come into a game and you’ve got a guy like this behind the dish with a big arm, you really have to change your approach. Can’t try to steal cuz you’ll get thrown out. Maybe get a little bigger lead, be aggressive on the secondary, but this type of guy shuts the running game down. Draws the walk there. Definitely lost the handle during that sequence. Four pitches for the walk. And that last one didn’t even threaten the zone. Catcher might want to go talk to him. So, a man at first. Now, the third baseman, Ronnie Mauricio, delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. And a strike on the outside edge. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. The 02 swings and misses. It’s a strike out. Went back to the fast ball and it was effective. No runs on no hits, no errors, and a runner left. Hard of the order. 345. Coming up, it’s the Mets two and the Royals nothing. Back here at Kaufman Stadium. Bottom of the six and here’s the first baseman, Benny Pasquantino. Well, these fans definitely want to get involved in the game. All it’s going to take is to get the leadoff man or even a base runner on. Just missed ball. Two balls. right now behind in the count. Two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. Swing and a miss. Now two and one. He really sells the change up with that arm action. That one out to right and it drops in. But a good job to keep it in front. hooked around that pitch on the outside, but he was still able to square it up pretty nicely. And that takes quick, strong wrist to pull that off. And to the play for Kansas City, Mikel Garcia. This guy’s definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important getting back into this ball game. Fast ball is outside with the tying run at the plate here in the bottom of the six late with the swing there. Really consistent release point. He’s been able to pitch up and down and have excellent command in both locations. just off the inside edge. Just missed. Oh, this count runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo. Salvador Perez in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. the 3-1 and that one fouled off. Pasquantino gets his lead at first. Nobody out. [Music] Highf fly ball out to center field. NMO. He’s got it. And there’s one down. Now it catcher Salvador. [Music] Next is the Royals catcher Salvador Perez. Missed with a change up and that’s ball one. Activity in the bullpen. Reed Garrett up and loosening in the pen. Braz the hardthrowing right-hander up as well. Man at first, one away. Blind drive. That’s a fair ball inside third. Here comes the throw and it throws off line. Safe at third. [Applause] Well, that may end up being an at bat we go back to later on when this game is over. Ripped that one down the line and kept it fair. And even when you hit it that far out front, you still have to keep your hands tight to your body so you don’t hook around that baseball and put it in foul territory. And that right there was perfect. Now a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. Kaggle Leone up to bat next. Lays off for a ball. Second and third. One away. Now one and one. Fouled off. He was late. Missed to center field. Lindor on the move, stretches out and hauls it in. Here comes the runner from third. The tag save and across to score comes the run from third. And here comes the Mets manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Number 52 will depart. And a nice effort out of him, no doubt. New arm coming on. We’ll be back for that in a moment. Taking over on the mound for the Mets. Klay Holmes. He doesn’t get a lot of strikeouts compared to other relievers, so he relies on getting that soft contact and the defense doing work behind him. They’ll have to be on their toes with him on the bump. Nick Loftton will hit next. and that is out of play. Ruer at second, two down. Misses off the inside and the count is one and one. Ripped to third but handled and that’ll end the inning. One run, a pair of hits, no errors, and one left on. We’re through six full. It’s the Mets two and the Royals won. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Sam Long. And they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the lefty hitter coming up. I think it’s a good move. I know. I never liked when opposing teams did that to me. Well, one-run game. Brett Batty digs in now and the first pitch misses for ball one. Fly ball to right and a quick out number one. Lefties can definitely be a little pull happy up there, especially with pitches that they see pretty well. That was a good example. He hooked an outside pitch, hit that ball in the air to right, just not with much authority. NMO in the box now as he leaves that one up high. And a foul ball. Swinging a miss. That is strike two. Wow. Good luck catching up to that one. Next offering misses down and away. Two balls, two strikes. Ripped on a line. Ray B the play and there’s two down. Man, he smoked that fast. He’s all over it. It’s just frustrating when you can’t get it to fall. Maybe next time off he’ll find a hole. And now it’s Frankie Lindor. He had a big swing for these guys way back in the first inning. Yeah, Boogie didn’t waste any time in this one. The solo shot really got his team going and he’s looking for more right here. Misses the zone and he gets him to chase. Wow. That’s not even close to the zone. Pitch misses there. Shout out. One and two. cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout and that is the inning. Three up, three down that time. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s the Mets two and the Royals one. [Music] Back here in Kansas City now, the left fielder, John Ray. check swing and he went. That’s strike one. Oh, and one. [Music] And a strike in there. looking to get the tying run on base. Just misses there. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. This one in the air right field. Sodto really on his horse for it. Snags it on the run and there’s one down. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He’s safe extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Isbel the next to hit takes low for a ball. Holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. And that one a little below the knees. Two and0. [Music] And that drops in for a strike. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds, they’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. Swing and a miss. And it’s two and two. spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. Next offering is down low. Jonathan India in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. So the one out hit turns the lineup over. Showed a lot of fight with two strikes in that AB. Nice swing to drive that pitch up the middle. could have easily been out in front on the off speed and pulled off of it, but he was looking to use the big part of the field and he executed his plan perfectly. Jonathan Indie at the plate. Tap foul at the plate. Isel the base runner at first with one out. [Music] Rudder takes off. Bounding ball here. Rolls. Foul. Good job to fight that one off with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. way inside. Two strike ball runner on the to go again. swinging a ground ball, tosses to first. No chance at the double play with the runner in motion. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. So, up now for Kansas City. Bobby Wit Jr. one for three. That one’s in there. And it’s 0 and one. 01’s the count. swing and a tapper that rolls foul. So the tying run at second, swings through it and that’s a strike out. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Gets out of the jam. Clearly he’s happy with those results. We’re in the top of the eighth now. It’s the right fielder Juan Sodto. Long back to work. That’s too low. Ball one. swing and a miss. Strike one. From a pitcher’s perspective, that’s a beautiful splitter right there. As a hitter, you don’t like it. But he’s commanded his fast ball and out of that same tunnel, that splitter comes and the bottom just falls out of it. That one outside. And it’s two and one. [Music] And that’s down away. Three balls, one strike. fought off foul 3-2. That one misses. So a lead off walk. I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow. Pete Alonzo up now for the Mets. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. [Music] This one in the dirt. Ruer stays where he is, but the count moves to two and 0. hit on the ground to the right side. And that’s a foul ball. And that’s a little bit high. And now three balls and a strike. swing and a miss. Hey, just threw that fast by him elevated and if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. Nobody out. Runner at first. goes down swinging for the strike out. Gasted right by him. And next for the Mets, Jesse Winker in the dirt. And that’s ball one. Counts one and0. Here comes the pitch. There goes the runner from first. Swinging a miss. Safe at second. And that was not close. [Music] Strike two. One ball. One out. The runner. second and we’re in the top of the eighth on the ground to third and Winker is set down. Now it’s the DH Jeff McNeel. That is upstairs for ball one. Two outs and one in scoring position. And another ball. No strike. Luis Torren up next for the Mets. And that gets the inside corner for a strike. probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate on the ground of first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Mets strand one as they’re unable to add to their 2-1 lead. Now back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Reed Garrett. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. 345 do up for the home team. And now the first baseman, Vinnie Pasquantino. That one is absolutely belted and one hops the wall into second base. The tying run is on with a leadoff double. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. Put a really nice balanced swing on it. And when you can rope one into the gap like that, you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box. And he’ll feel real good about that one. And now a crucial opportunity to tie up this game with another base hit. So the tying run in scoring position now. Mel Garcia steps in for the Royals and fouled off. with the tying run at second here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. And that one fouled off. He’s falling behind in a huge spot. Boo. Got to do what it takes to come through. Maybe choke up on the bat a little bit, spread out those feet, whatever it takes. on the ground to short. Lindor on to first. One gone in the bottom of the eighth. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks. Barker Salvador Perez now at the plate. And the sweeper misses [Music] now. Fly ball to right center. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. That’s out number two. The right fielder number 14. Jack Kaggleó steps in for the Royals. Swing and a miss. 0 and one. And one, [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] that one is upstairs. [Music] [Applause] And that’s fouled off. Pasquantino stands at second with two gone. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Inning over. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Anel Serpa just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Well, one-run game. Luis Torren up now for the Mets. And first offering is fouled off. Sarah in his third season. He features a sinker, a slider, a fourseamer, and he works in a change. That’s inside. Bullpen action for the Royals. Taylor Clark preparing to come on if needed. Shriber getting loose as well. So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Music] Gets a piece and stays alive. the one two and they’ll do it again. And down on strikes and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Well, I’m not really sure why he let that one go by. I mean, out of the hand, it had a lot of the strike zone. Sure. It had some good armside run at the end to move to the outside part of the plate, but with two strikes, you got to be ready to swing it there and you can’t leave it in the umpire’s hands. Mauricio in the box with one away as he takes ball one and another ball. Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So, I think the confidence level is raised right here. The 20 is in for a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Chopper right side, but a kicks foul. one-run game here in the top of the ninth. Still two and two after the foul ball on the ground right side. Loftton fires over to first. Two quick outs here in the top of the ninth. Running out of chances to pad the lead. Brett Batty up now for the Mets. 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Ground ball up the middle. Loftton the throw to first and the inning is over. Offense held in check there. Bottom part of the order. 789. Two up in inning number nine. It’s the Mets two and the Royals one. Back now and on the mound the closer Edwin Diaz. He last pitched two days ago. Now a pitch hitter coming on for the Royals. Freddy Fine. Just looking to get on here. Give them something to work with as they try to make a comeback. First pitch misses. [Music] One-run game. Bottom nine. That’s B. [Music] Strike on the outside and it’s two and one line and that’s a base hit. Tough spot for the pinch hitter and he delivers. One of the hardest things to do in the game to stay mentally and physically ready for the big opportunity and he came through for his club right there. [Applause] No outs. Runner at first. Here’s the left fielder, John Ray. 0 for three in this one. Pitch misses there. Ball one. Tying run at first. The winning run at the plate. Squares, pushes at it, misses it. It’s a strike. And now it’s even. One and one. [Music] Lays down a bunch to the right side. Fires to second for one. And that’s all they’ll get. He’s two outs away. Kyle Isbel steps in for the Royals. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Diaz throw to first and he dives back in safely. Trying to keep the game alive here in the bottom of the ninth. Fought off foul. and a 1-1. Swing at a ball lifted to center field. Pulls it down and he makes the catch. Two away. [Music] Last chance for the Royals. And here is Jonathan India. Typically the outfield defense will play a little bit deeper just to keep the ball in front. Make sure ground ball left side. Can’t field it cleanly. No throw and the defense comes away with nothing. One out away from this game being over, but an infield single keeps them alive. They’re still breathing and maybe this provides that last minute spark. And now a huge bat coming up as Bobby Wit Jr. steps in across the letters at 99. The shorts stop takes a ball. Two outs. Both the tying and winning runs are on. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. Well, this is a higher leverage spot and I love the way that he’s turned things around. He’s got two outs now ahead in this count and he can pretty much dictate what’s going to happen next in terms of the pitch sequence. Swing and a miss. And that’s the ball game. Well, all you want is a chance going to that final frame. And they got some base runners. Had the tying run at second, the winning run at first, just couldn’t come through with the big hit. On the other side, nice job to battle through it. Close out the win. And your final score here today, 2-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shabi saying so long.

In the last month a bunch of floundering misfits.
