Why The Pittsburgh Steelers NEED To Pay T.J. Watt Heading Into 2025
The Steelers have set their course here. They have decided that they’re going to try and compete for a Super Bowl right now with Aaron Rogers, who by the way is on a one-year timeline, and Cam Hayward, who’s on a two-year timeline here. And the Steelers, in my opinion, can’t win a Super Bowl without TJ Watt on the roster. And my message to the Pittsburgh Steelers at this point in time, guys, is I understand the concerns that you might have about, you know, guarantees three, four years into an extension, all that stuff, but too bad, man. you you have to pay him at this point in the offseason to accomplish your short-term goals. And right now, the Steelers are in a short-term goal mindset, which is to win a Super Bowl in the next two years before Cam Hayward retires, and plain and simply, guys, you can’t win a title without TJ Watt on the field. All right. Now, for the record here, guys, if you wanted to trade TJ Watt this off seasonason, you didn’t want to pay him all that money and you wanted to fire Mike Tomlin, trade Cam Hayward, trade Minka Fitzpatrick, draft a rookie quarterback, and completely embrace a rebuild this year, I would have been completely on board with that. I said that at the beginning of the off season, but now that the Steelers have gone down this win now kind of mindset, they have to be able to secure Watt for this season. and the strategy that they’ve chosen, uh, you know, the short-term strategy of trying to win. Now, you have to pay TJ Watt. You likely have to guarantee a good portion of his contract over three, even four years, depending on how much Watt wants. And Watt knows he has the leverage right now, and he knows the Steelers essentially have to accept whatever number that he wants at this point in time.

The steelers don't have to pay watt this season he under contract they can next season sign him a extension because watt is under contract this season
I agree they don’t HAVE to pay him anymore than what(pardon the pun)he is due for his last year. And if he decides to sit out then he will lose however much he makes per game, not to mention playing time. The last time a Steeler did that it did not work out too well for him.
Ain't nobody paying This soft as tissue Tj no 40 million dollar at age 36 he must be crazy.
That's exactly 💯 right can't win without TJ Watt no way in hell they got to pay him if they don't pay him the defense going to sux and they can't good without TJ Watt whole defense just folds up with TJ ain't playing with them
We ain't win a playoff game wit him on the roster yet 😮
If Watt really loves playing in Pittsburgh, he should swallow his pride, and sign a deal that’s team friendly. It’s not like a couple extra million is going to make or break him financially.
I understand from a general business and football perspective why people might say don’t pay TJ. In Pittsburgh, we don’t always think conventionally, and loyalty comes into play. He’s been loyal. He was the one to reach across the isle last contract and get it done. Now, it’s time for the new guard to show they appreciate their old dog who can definitely still hunt.
PAY WATT
Pay the man. We aint making playoffs without Watt.
Again, doing nothing in the playoffs.
This dude spits like crazy every video
P A Y. T J .
We are always trying to compete for a Super Bowl. It's just that we have the combo of Tomlin, Khan, and Wiedl that are making draft picks and free agent signings that are giving us even more of a chance to win. If we liked this QB class we would have picked one. We valued the Defensive positions more. We are doing what the Rams did, in giving up all there early picks in trades etc. to win a championship. So we don't need to pay TJ, he doesn't have the leverage, and I would respect it if they didn't make a player his age the highest paid defensive player.
IT takes a damn good QB, and the rest of the team and no drama bs, and stay healthy it ain't all about the Benjamins.
The pressure to win in 1 of the next 2 years starts in August … You need to get TJ his money to eliminate as much pressure as possible and stay focused during seas on play…0 distractions guys… Lets Go !!!
Nailed it, Jack! Seems dumb to play around with this now with the undisputed LEADER on D!!!!!! 😢
PAY TJ
I’d agree if he weren’t under contract, but he is. I don’t think he’ll actually sit out setting himself up to be in the same position next year
Pay the man he deserves it all
Dude that hatttttttt issssss sicccklkkkkk 😳😳😩😩😩😩
Pay TJ… never rebuild thats the worst thing to hear for a fan
Man, IDK about this. In 2 years, about 18 of these vets won't be here. Have to rebuild. Make a 31 year old the highest paid NON QB ?……. Sorry, can't do it. Just because the Browns-A HIGHLY DIS-FUNCTIONAL organization, paid Garrett what they did? (MISTAKE, YET AGAIN.) For what TJ will command, you could add 4 or 5 SOLID pros to your rebuild. Sorry. I love TJ, but enough is enough. No can do.Defense is already the highest paid offense in the NFL. We need play makers for our FUTURE FRANCHISE QB. Consider what i'm saying here folks!! Watt will be 31 in October! Not 26!!
The market was set,it's not TJs fault! That's what they're paying top pass rushers in the NFL. Stop being so cheap, you haven't paid a star QB in over 5 years,I'm sure you can find a way to make it happen. Cleveland found a way.
Pay da man he earned it I know it's popular to hate on Watt because he earned a raise but I would pay him that's my opinion on it and I don't think we should blow it up if we decided to rebuild when we decided we were gonna draft Big Ben in 04 we wouldn't have won two Superbowls and got a third and next year we aren't gonna be spending anything on the QB position because we are drafting one and if we nail next years draft and add a few pieces this team could be elite within a year two
Pay Tj Watt Steelers please
He deserves the money but can't win a sb without him on the roster? We haven't won a playoff game since his rookie year. He's also a dud in the playoffs. His trade value will never be higher than it is now and history tells us age, injuries and his contract aren't going to be worth it. This is probably the last year of his peak and in 3-4 years we will be hamstrung with salary issues. Just like we have been. Highest paid defense got us no where in an offensive league.
PAY HIM!!!!
If it’s 35 mil sign him 4 years max if it’s 40 mil 5 years trade him 😑
This dude sucked, when he was slamming Sheduer and couldn't even pronounce his name correctly. He just jumped on the media hate narrative.
