MLB LIVE🔴 Toronto Blue Jays vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 11, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
about to get started here. And on the hill in this one, Mitch Spence and Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Oh, you can see his whip is a little above the league average. Not bad, but I think in this one, he’s going to need to control that a little bit better. Try to limit hitters from getting on base. stay in that wind up instead of the stretch. And when he does allow base runners be able to throw a pitch, he’s going to get a swing and miss, get out of the inning so that a base hit doesn’t do more damage and put his team behind the eightball. [Applause] cut on and lifted in the air. Rooker on the move, makes the catch for the out. Let’s take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays. Not a whole lot going their way offensively the last few games, Chris. Yeah, Booan. That can put more pressure on the pitching staff to try to limit the opponent to just one or two runs a game knowing that their offense is not scoring right now. And that never really works well because you try to be too fine and you end up giving up a lot of runs. So, we’ll see if everybody can just relax, bring things together, and perform at a level that they’re capable of. Bulbish stands in now and watches strike one. Foul ball. One out. Base is empty. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Next offering is downstairs. Chopped left side. Urchella to first in time and Bachette is retired. Batty third. The designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Two down base is empty. Here’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Let’s go Mitch. swings here and blasts one left field and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases safely into second. He’s got a double. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. So, the go-ahead run in scoring position. Here’s the third baseman, Addison Barger late with the swing there. Well, you always want to come out in the first eight and try to put something up on the board. It’s a big two out double right there. See if the cleanup man can drive him in and put a tally up there on the board. Foul ball there. Well, here’s a chance right here for one of the better hitters on this roster to get him on the board in the first thanks to the three-hole hitter extending the inning. Good at bat with two outs. Breaking ball inside. And that is ball one. Had a good eye there. Really good take especially with two strikes. Two and two. Started after it appealed to third and he went around. Not an easy call there, but that puts an end to the inning. So, a two-out double, but they don’t score. And the A’s will get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game. Back here with my pal Singi and on the hill number 56. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Bottom of the first now, the A’s designated hitter, Lawrence Butler. Fast is outside. [Applause] Next offering in there for a strike and one and one. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Next offering upstairs. right through there for a strike. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Line drive. That’s a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. And man, I’ll tell you, a line drive like that into the gap just feels so good. feedback that you had everything on time and in control from start to finish with your swing. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. And that drops in for a strike. Come on. just missed. One runner at first with no outs here [Music] to first and he breaks for second to second and he’s out. So much for their first hit right there. Good move and he had him leaning all the way. And a curve drops in for a strike. That one is absolutely belted back there. Tattooed and gone. He made him pay for that one. Home run number 20 on the year and they jump out front. It’s one- nothing Sydney. That’s his 99th career homer. Well, he’s probably already thinking about the next one and don’t want to think too hard because you’ll start to struggle. 100 is a really nice number to get to though. [Applause] With a low 90s fast ball, you have to live on the edges and hit your spot. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient, waited for it. It was like BP all over again. Nick Curts the next to hit. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. Way high there. And that’s ball one. Part of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. So here in the three spot, Chris, a hitter low average, but high slug. Well, one thing he’s going to lean on are the metrics. His exit velocity has been really good. He’s just had some bad luck hitting the ball right at people. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. We could be in for a power showcase today with the wind blowing out, a lot of lift and separate, Chris. Uh, we know hitters are in this era. Definitely trying to hit the ball in the air regardless of the conditions, but I think even a little more so there’s margin for error if you can get the ball up in the air. So, you know, you’ll see at times, I’m sure, with two strikes, what looks like a half swing that can get out of the ballpark with a hitter who’s got decent pop. Shay Langalers stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. [Applause] And that’s in for a strike. And it’s one and one. One and one. [Applause] This one popped up. Wagner has a beat on it. Brings it in for the third out. But they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s now one- nothing. You’re dialed into the show and welcome back to the ballpark. Second inning set and go. And now for the Jays, Will Wagner. Wagner hitting fifth in today’s lineup. And they went out and made a trade for him last season. Spence back to work. Just No, that miss. That’s a ball. 10. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Applause] and he deals. Oh, that got away from him. And he’s going to reach on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning. Toronto. Here’s the left fielder, Joey Lido. Pitch misses inside and that’s ball one. One ball, no strikes. a swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Boo. One of our favorites. Jerry Hillsdale umpiring behind home plate in this one. Pretty much by the book with his strike zone. And because he’s so by the book, you’ll sometimes see pitchers questioning him. They’ll make a good pitch on the edge of the zone, want the strike, and not get the call. But most of the time, Jerry gets it right. He’s a good one. Last couple of pitches, breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Two balls in a strike. Here it comes. Late swing. Fouled to the left. Just off the inside edge. And now filled up. Swing in a liner. Base hit out into right center field. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Oh, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. So digging in, Miles Straw right through there for a strike. Here comes the one. There’s the strike. No outs. runners at first and second and a foul ball. He stays alive. [Applause] Highf fly ball out to center field. And that is a big first out. Betting eight catcher Tyler Heinaman. Tyler Heinaman next up for the Blue Jays. Keep an eye on this at bat because even though it’s early, it could change the outcome of this game. Look for your pitch and attack it. swinging a miss as he was late. If I’m at the dish right now, I am aggressive over the heart of the plate. This guy’s been filling up the strike zone, so you know you’re going to get a good pitch to hit. And as nasty as his stuff is, you might as well take all three swings. Two on, one out. The other way, they get the tag on him. Double play. What a quick killing to end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the A’s one and the Jay’s nothing. [Applause] Bottom of the second. Now the left fielder Tyler Soderstrom. Chris is definitely going to finish the year with a new career high in homers. We just don’t know how many he’s going to hit quite yet. Just off the outside edge. Ball one 10 just off the inside edge [Applause] and a swing and a miss. Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. Not even close there. Now three and one. [Music] That one misses. So a lead off walk. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Maxy up next for the A’s. [Applause] That’s in there. 0 and one. That’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike with the situation, runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground and you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play. Swing and a line drive. And that one’s a base hit out of left center field. Lead runner to second. So two on and nobody out. Solid swing from start to end. On time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension. And he met it out front for the line drive. Knock. First and second, no outs. Gorella steps in. Now, here we go. Yeah, a foul ball. [Music] First and second here. No outs. [Applause] Next pitch is downstairs. [Applause] just missed. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. And a two-1 on the way. That cuts the corner. [Music] And that just misses. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Swing and a ball popped up. Lucas on the move. He’s got it. One down. Throw over to first. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. So, up next, Zack Gellof [Applause] and that skips in the dirt. Soderstrom over at second. Muny at first. One gone. Ball two and0. Yeah. Big swing and a miss. Two and one’s the count. Hit on the ground. Might be two. Wagner to second. Back to the pitcher covering. It’s a double play. Nicely done. And that’ll do it. One, one left. We play two full. It’s the A’s one and the Jay’s nothing. And we’re back. Now it’s the second baseman, Leo Jimenez. Leo Jimenez. Right through there for a strike. Pitch misses there and it’s a ball and a strike. popped up to the left into foul ground. Drops into the glove. One up, one down. Bill, that was a pitch you got to crush. Unbelievable that he missed it right there. And I’m telling you, he is going to be frustrated with himself until his next at bat. So digging in, Nathan Lucas. He’s 0 for one. That’s in there. And that’s strike one. [Applause] That one ripped right center field. That’s back there and it one hops the wall and that’s a double. He was all over that one. Pretty much just a textbook double into the gap. And when you can drop one in there between the outfielders, you know you’re making the turn at first. Just an excellent swing. Bullet up to the dish. Grounded out his first time. Squirts away from Langelers. Lucas up to third on the wild pitch. Even with a good secondary lead, sometimes it’s hard to see just how far that ball’s gotten away from the catcher. And if you can make it to third base, pretty much standing up. Well, that time he seemed to have a pretty good read. Gets to third safely, and now he’s just 90 ft away from scoring. Line drive. And that should be extra bases. In from third is the tying run. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring it back. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. now doubled in his first AB in the air right field. Rooker, he’s got it. There’s two away. [Applause] Now batting third baseman Addison Barger. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Addison Barger next up for the Blue Jays. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. [Applause] Fouled off to the right. [Applause] [Applause] Two strikes to a guy who’s already overwhelmed with the punch out. the only guy in the lineup with that strike out. But you can’t get too relaxed. You still got to make good pitches to get him out. In the air, left field down the line. Fair ball. Bette comes around to score. Throw to second. Not in time. He’s there easily. Great effort out there as he tries to reach and haul this one in, but just can’t extend far enough. I think it started with a bad read off the bat which led to a bad jump, bad angle and that cost him right there extra bases. So up next for Toronto, Will Wagner. That one finds the zone. Strike one. down the line. It’s a base hit. Brown’s third headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. It’s an RBI single. It’s 3-1. Well, that’s a lonely feeling for an outfielder. The rain wasn’t great. And it really hurts when it cost your team a run. So, two down. Joey Lopeido next up for the Blue Jays. And that’s through there for a strike. 0 and one. [Applause] ground ball left side and it goes just fouled and ball two strikes. Wagner leads off first with two down to the inning. broken bat and it’s popped up and that is that. Three runs on four hits, no errors and one left on. We head now to the home half of inning number three. It’s the Blue Jays three and the A’s won. Bottom of the inning. And here’s the rookie center fielder, Denzel Clark. Denzel Clark. That one not close. Ball one. That’s a ball right now. Behind in the count. Two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. Swing and a miss as he was out front. 2-1. Just missed. Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So, that’s a good take by him. That one to first. And that’s a fair ball around first heading for two. and he’s there with a lead off double. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. One for one with a single so far. That one catches the corner for a strike. 0 and one. [Music] Here’s the pitch. Runner breaks for third. There’s a ball. Throw to third. He’s safe. [Applause] runner at third. Nobody out here in the last half of the third. [Applause] That one finds the corner. That’s strike two. That pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge. just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. Now, the number two hitter, Brent Rooker, and the first pitch misses for ball one. Rooker needs just one more homer to reach a hundred in the big leagues. Yeah, and making it to a 100 homers would be quite the career accomplishment for him. Out of the more than 20,000 players to take an at bat in the majors, less than 5% have ever hit 100 dingers. [Applause] Hey, one and two is the count. [Applause] And it’s even up. One away with a runner at third. [Applause] on the ground to third on to first but they cut it to one as the run comes in. So important to really lock in on an at bat like this. It seems easy with the infield back but you’ve got to make sure you put the ball in play. Put it on the ground brought that run in. And now the first baseman Nick Curts. He’s 0 for one. That one’s in there. That’s strike one [Applause] lined into left center and that should be extra bases. Now he’ll turn for second and that’s a twobagger. Everything came together for him. Man, that feels so good to shoot an absolute bolt the opposite way. split the gap and know that you’ve got extra bases right off the bat. That’s the kind of thing hitters dream about when they’re falling asleep at night. And now a chance for Shay Langelers. First time up was a pop out. Line drive and out of here. His 13th home run of the season. It’s 43. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time. And that is back. Aggressive and it paid off. [Applause] Well, I’m not really sure how he kept that fair. When you’re out in front on a breaking ball like that, such a good chance that it’s going to hook foul, but not this time. He kept the hands moving forward just long enough to sneak it inside that foul pole. And now Tyler Soderstrom inning over the A’s with a two-run blast. It’s now a 43 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show and welcome back to the ballpark. John Shami with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth. Miles Straw baby. Come on in the air. Right side of the infield. Kurts under it. makes the grab and there’s one down. Tyler Heinaman next up for the Blue Jays. He hit into a double play his first time up. Ripped on a line. Two down. It’s important. If he can go one, two, three here will be a very positive sign for him and for his team. And now Leo Jimenez. He popped out his first time. And downstairs action in the pen down there. JP Sears up and throwing. Lopez getting loose as well. Blue Jays down a run. Nope. Ball. Two balls, one strike. This one in the air. Gellof hauls it into Indiana. Blue Jays go down in order. Still down a run. It’s 4-3. Bottom four. Stepping in Maxie. Short stop Maxy. a short stop takes the ball. You know, these A’s showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. Pitch count is pretty high and they’ve played at four runs already. So, I think it’s safe to say their game plan is working out pretty well right now. Whips it to first. Up one down. Gioella. Here’s Giorella fly to right his first time. So they forced the starter to put in a lot of work and they’ve been able to get to him for some runs and hopefully that bullpin phone is working today. This one in the air right field and it drops in. So a man aboard now with one away. Now back in trouble, Boo. And it’s just been like this for him most of the game. They’ve been all over him since his first pitch. And I think he’s got a very short leash right now. Really needs to lock it down here. Run around at first with one gone. Zack Gellof up next for the A’s. That one’s in there. 0 and one. A’s leading by a run. Come on, let’s keep it going. Just missed outside. And that one is downstairs. And the count two and one. top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Just a slow ground ball this time. There’s one. And their second double play of the day will end the fourth. One hit in the inning, but no one left. We played four. It’s the Athletics four and the Blue Jays three. Now pitching for JP Sears comes on now. This softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. So the lineup flips over. Nathan Lucas digs in now. One for two. Let’s go. Clean, baby. Let’s go. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Lucas, 30 years old now. And he was drafted in the seventh round back in 2015. Late on that fast ball. I think he was sitting off speed. Elbow strike. Foul ball still 0 and two. Spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. That’s down. That missed. One and two. Foul ball still a one and two count. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Bows it off. Still one and two. And there’s a ball. line drive caught. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove, but you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. And next for Toronto, Bobette. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. [Music] Swing and a miss as he was late that time. The Athletics leading by a run. They were in the top of the fifth. Just missed. That one fouled off. Two and two. That one the other way and Michette is retired. Vlatty Jr. stepping to the dish now. Chris baseball today, so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers, but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and it’s kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. up the middle, slings to first and Guerrero is set down and it’s a one, two, three inning. Nothing do it for the Blue Jays. Score holds at 4-3. And we’re back. Digging in, it’s the speedy outfielder Denzel Clark. Denzel Clark. Singi, one of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you think of that as plus value? Absolutely. If he’s doing damage now, if he’s rolling over and and grounding out, then it’s a different story. But yeah, if he can put the ball in the gaps or over the fence, 100%. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s one down. So, the batting order turns over. Next is the designated hitter, Lawrence Butler. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. in the air pretty deep out to center field. Pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there’s two away. Now batting the right fielder. Brent Rooker. Next up for the A’s, Brent Rooker. Possibly thinking about home run number 100 here. He’s just one shy of that milestone. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a play appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for a hitter. Next offering is fouled back. [Music] Fast ball is outside. Two out. Space is empty. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and the count is even. Two and two. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out and it’s a three up, three down inning. Nothing doing for the offense that time. Five innings complete. It’s the Athletics four and the Blue Jays three. Top of the sixth inning. Now the third baseman, Addison Barger. [Applause] Sears back to work. Basketball for a strike. Plus good pitch there. Really had some run and finished. Little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you got a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Now that ain’t the first. And here’s the first baseman, Will Wagner. There’s his swing and a miss. Kelly just threw that fast ball by him. Elevated. And if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. Ball one there. And there’s the strike. Taps softly to the right side and foul ball. Gets a piece and stays alive. Really great change of speeds. as he goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Strike him out on the ground right side. Gellof. Two quick outs to open the top of the six. Now batting leftielder Joey Lido next up for the Blue Jays. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Two down, nobody on. And we’re the top half of the sixth. And that drops in for a strike. Quickly into an 02 count. Both pitches were down in the zone. I think you set your sights a little bit higher cuz you’ll have a tendency to chase. Ah, that’s strike three and the third out. So, we take a break. No runs, no hits, no errors. Hard in the order. 345 coming up. It’s the Athletics four and the Blue Jays three. New pitcher now for the Jays, Justin Brule. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Justin, Nick Kurts. Now the play athletics first baseman number 16 on the ground to the right side and he takes it himself for the out. really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. Catcher Shay Langalers. Next to hit, Shay Langalers. His two-run homer back in the third was an important swing of the bat in this one. Yeah, there’s no doubt he helped set the tone fairly early and certainly part of the reason why they’ve got the lead right now. hammered base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Up next for the 80s left. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Sodro. Sodrom taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. [Applause] Line drive and this might be trouble. Coming home now. A relay to the plate. Slides his hand in there. Save. It’s 53. Well done. Drives in the run. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. [Applause] One out, runner at second. Now here is Maxie. That one clips the outside corner and it’s 0 and one. [Applause] Add ball one. [Applause] Check swing went around at a count one and two. One ball, two strikes. [Applause] Struck him out swinging. couldn’t catch up to the heater. Beat him inside on that last pitch. And when you look back at the pitch sequence on that strike out, it’s pretty interesting. Away, in away, and then back in again. Really commanded both sides of the plate right there. And that makes it pretty tough to get comfortable in the box. Now here’s Gio to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. But a run will score in the inning on this RBI double. It’s now 53. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Number 49. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Straw leading things off and takes a strike. And that is out of play. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Knocks that one away and will do it again. cut out and miss struck him out and that’s the first out. A big first out here in the seventh via the punch out. Yeah, it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this when you got the leadoff hitter so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this. So, a strikeout really puts them on their heels. And now the switch in catcher Tyler Heinaman bowl for two in this one. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. And one. That’s through there for a strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Breaking ball. And that got him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. And now for the Jays. Leo Jimenez. Leo Jimenez. [Applause] line drive and it stays fair. And it’ll be first and third now after that miscue. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Now a huge at bat in this game coming up. Manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen. Number 49 departs two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout and we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching. So a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s. Jacob Lopez gets an opportunity to square off against his former team. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out a little extra jacked up right here. Runners at the corners here. One away. And now the right fielder Nathan Lucas in the first pitch misses for ball one. At the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play. with the go-ahead run at the plate here in the top half of inning number seven and fouled off. [Applause] Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Swinging a foul out of play. [Applause] swing at a highf fly ball deep left field back there. Dives, but it falls and now it looks like extra bases. The run scores from third and now they trail by one. Still able to come through behind in the count right there. A pretty good swing on that one as he drove it out to deep left. Didn’t quite have the right combination of launch angle and exit velocity to get it over the fence, but you’re never going to be disappointed with extra bases. Now that sets up a huge at bat in this ball game. So two in scoring position with one out. Bobette gets a chance to hit. Pitch is in there. Strike one. [Applause] Liner. And this could be trouble. One runs in, another comes in to score and they take the lead in the seventh. A tworun double. Well, that bat had a lot of pressure riding on it. So, really great job coming through right there. It’s got to feel good. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. And now the DH looks like they want to set up the double play. Intentional walk will make it first and second with one gone. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Jacob Lopez out of the game and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching for the So a new pitcher on the mound for the Shawn Nukem. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Addison Barger. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. [Applause] And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. [Applause] That misses and the count even one and one. And that’s in for a strike. Good eye right there. I don’t know how you take that one after the called strike on the corner. Just a little bit off the edge. Stays alive. Two, two on the way. Up the middle, touches the bag for one. And that’s quick work out of the pen. One batter, two outs, inning over, but three score in the inning. Two of them on this two-run double. It’s now 65. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Braden Fiser. He’s thrown the ball very well overall this season. and he’s been really tough to get to. You see that erra and that’s where you love to be. Well, one game. Here’s the second base. Zack Gill. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Movement in the Blue Jays bullpen. Brendan Little, the left-hander up and throwing. Burr the right-hander also getting loose looking to get the tying run on base. Line to left. He dives but he can’t make the catch. Well, that was an important bat in this game. So, a great job there stepping up to the challenge. Nice line drive with the pull side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. will still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. No outs. Runner at first. Here’s the center fielder Denzel Clark trying to move him over here. But oh, a great play to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. This couldn’t have played out any better on offense. They were trying to trade it out to move the winner in the scoring position, but instead they just couldn’t make the play on defense. you really need to get it out there. So, the tying run in scoring position now. Butler getting ready to hit. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. [Applause] One and one. [Applause] check swing called strike. The possible tying and go ahead runs on base. Nobody out. Squirts away. A little did. So on the wild pitch, two guys advance. Could be a costly one there. The tying run was already in scoring position, but now that go-ahad run is just a base hit away from scoring. Got to let it go and make some big pitches now. [Applause] bows that off to the left and will do it again. Don’t be surprised to ball on the ground to the corners that they come home with the baseball instead of going to first base. That one missed. Brent Rooker in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. out towards right center field. Lucas on the move to the alley, squeezes it. Runners tagging from second and third. He’ll score on the sack fly. And this game is tied in the seven. In that situation, you’re looking to get something up in the zone that you can put in the air. Worst case scenario, a sacrifice fly to drive in that runner from third. Right. Big bat for Brent Brooker now. He’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. Check swing and he went. It’s 0 and one. Definitely a strikeout situation right here. Lots of ways for that go-ahead run to score if the ball’s put in play. with a go ahead run at third here in the bottom of the seventh. That missed by the count one and two. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Next offering misses down and away. [Applause] This one backs to left center. On its way and that one’s out of here. [Applause] Another homer. His second home run of the game. And they add a couple more. It’s 86. Sydney. That’s a special one. His 100th career home run. Man. 100 career homers. Pretty impressive. [Applause] knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. Here comes the manager out of the Blue Jays dugout and he will make a move to the pen. Braden Fiser won’t go any further and as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. [Applause] Now pitching four. They turn things over to the righty. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. One down. And now it’s going to be Nick Curts. One for three. And that one fouled off. [Applause] Next offering upstairs. Still only one out here in the inning. [Applause] That pitch clips the outside corner. That is strike two. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you’d have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. [Music] [Applause] That’s a ball. That’s inside. [Applause] Now it’s three and two. [Applause] One down. Base is empty. And that’s ruled the swing. It’s a strike out. Shay Langalers will hit next. He’s already homerred in this game. [Applause] First pitch misses. 10. [Applause] Two down on that catches the top part of the zone and the count is one and one. [Applause] fought off foul. [Applause] Swing and a ground ball. Fires to first on the run and they get the out. But they strike for three in the inning. Two on this two-run home run. It’s now 86. Back after this on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. We’re in the top of the eighth at the plate. Will Wagner Nukem 31 years old and they traded for him earlier this year. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Mason Miller, the hardth throwing righty, is up and loosening. Alvarado also getting ready on the ground. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Safe at first. No play. We’ll see how they score this. Now batting left fieldielder Joey Lraftoido. And here is Joey Lrafido. Struck out on just three pitches last time. There’s the strike. 0 and one [Applause] with the tying run at the plate and we’re in the top of the eighth. Swing and a miss. There’s that change up. Benny really sells the change up with that arm action. Ground ball to the right side down the line and it’s foul. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open in the dirt and the runner holds. Nobody out. Runner at first. [Music] [Applause] Twins and misses. Struck him out. Chase the fast up the ladder for strike three. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean that was clearly up and out of the strike zone. But that’s one of the hardest things that when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Shawn Nukem gives way and as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with a new pitcher after this break. Elvis Alvarado taking over on the mound. Well, the best relievers want the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. So, up next, Miles Straw 0 for three in this one. just missed. Tying run at the plate and that’s fouled off. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. A strike the pitch. really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. The tying run at the plate. He found a swing and a miss. That’s the second out. That slider wasn’t even close to the strike zone and he got up the chase. That’s just a bad approach right there. Either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn’t resist the temptation. But man, really expanded right there and didn’t have a chance of making contact with that pitch. And here is Tyler Heinman. Well, both sides equally as strong. So, not a good time to try to turn him around with a belief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. That one catches the zone. Throw in the wall. [Applause] Fights it off. He’ll see another. Looking very settled on the mound here in the eighth. One more out. They’ll probably hand it off to their closer for the ninth with at least a two-run lead. And that one upstairs. Ball one. I thought he’d bite right there. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Wagner off of first with two away. popped up. Urchello sizing this one up. And that is that. Blue Jays held in check. Can’t cut into an 86 deficit. Out of the bottom of the eighth. Here’s the left fielder Tyler Sodro. Tyler Soder. Baby, let’s go. inside. That’s inside. One and0. Come on. Just off the inside edge. Swaging a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Check swing and he went. And the count now even up. Two and two. [Music] You got this. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Caught him looking for the K. Oh man, just locked him up with that slider even though it caught a lot of the zone. And I think that tells you all you need to know about what he was looking for in the box. And it clearly was not that pitch. Muny in the box with one away as he takes ball one. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. And that’s down and away. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. And look out as that one ran in and got him. Gioella to the plate. Third base Gio Urella. [Music] That pitch gets the corner and it’s 0 and one. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Checks the runner and he dives back in safely. Outside low and now it’s even. One and one. One ball, one strike. Man at first, one away. Swings and misses. And it’s one and two. All sliders so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. Got him looking. That K is his third of the game. No, that’s not the best two strike fast ball I’ve seen, but certainly got away with the location there. You know, sometimes as a hitter when you’re down in the count, you’re so focused on a pitcher painting the black and you just get a little bit locked up on something down the heart of the plate, not expecting it, and it just kind of freezes you. And first off is fouled off. swings through that one. Good pitch right there. Tied him up on the hands. If I’m out there on the bump, I’m going right back in there. Andy O2 outside. swing and a ball lifted left field. He makes the grab and that’ll do it. The A’s strand one. They lead at 86. Now pitching. Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Mason Miller. He’s got some of the best swinging misstep going right now. He’s striking out hitters at a very high rate this year. So, this should be fun to watch. And now for the Jays, Leo Jimenez. Second base, Leo Jimenez. [Applause] That’s in there. And that is strike one. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mound. 01 now. Well struck right field and one hops off the wall. Should be extra bases into second easily with a leadoff double. I’m sure he feels really good about that one. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. not trying to do too much but still looking to drive it and that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. Really important at bat coming up now. Nathan Lucas next up for the Blue Jays. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. First pitch just misses. With the tying run at the plate here in the top of the ninth, two knows the count. [Applause] That one in triple digits. So many hard throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the bullpen. So hard to play catchup. And that misses and that’s ball three. Really been able to slow down the game tonight with his at bats. And the biggest one he’s had so far. He doesn’t look anxious at all. And a strike right through there. That one in triple digits. He goes down looking. Well, just couldn’t pull the trigger on the fast ball right there. I don’t think he was taking it, thinking it might be a cold ball or anything. I just think he was flat out frozen. Did not expect that location in my opinion. He’s two outs away and the batter will be the shorts stop. Boished line drive and this might be trouble. Runner around third on his way to the plate. He’ll score and the tying runs at second base with a double. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. Everything was mechanically sound with that swing right there. And that’s pretty much what you’re wanting to replicate with every rep you take. You want good balance. barrel directly to the baseball and good long extension after contact out in front of home plate. Man, there are a lot of doubles in a swing like that. One out, runner at second. And next is the designated hitter, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. That’s in there. And that’s strike one. Well, comfortable or not, these are the situations closers they seem to live for. I mean, you get into some hot water, a jam, tough spot, whatever you want to call it, but this is where they earn their keep. [Applause] So the tying run at second. Swing and a fly ball in the air out towards right center field. In safely with a double, his second of the day. That’s two consecutive extra base hits for this team. He clearly didn’t catch that one on the big part of the bat. Just kind of muscled it out there. And you know on the mound it can be pretty frustrating for a pitcher but you just kind of have to expect those to drop in there sometimes. Two on one out calling for the intentional walk and that loads up the bases and the force play is now in first baseman Will Wagner. So bases loaded with one away. Now at the plate Will Wagner golden opportunity right here. That’s in for a strike. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. One out. The go-ahead run is at second. And that’s off the outside edge. And it’s one and one. That one lifted to left. Soderstrom brings it in. Runner tags from third. He scores. That’s a big sacrifice fly. And they’ve tied it in the top of the ninth. Joey Lopeid. Manager out of the dugout now. And he will make a move to dip into the A’s bullpen. Mason Miller will depart and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now pitching ready reliever out of the pen. Justin Ster. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season. So this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. So up next for Toronto, Joey Lrafido. So who’s going to be the hero today? This could be the at bat that changes everything. That’s towards center. Clark settles underneath it, makes the grab, and that’s the third out. So a ninth inning comeback here, and this game has been flipped on its head. We are deadlocked at eight apiece. Back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Brendan Little, well, he’s a big time strikeout guy out there this season, averaging more than one per inning. So, Mar going with a pinch hitter here. Jacob Wilson, a critical at bat in this game for him. [Applause] Off the mark there and it’s one and0. [Applause] That one hooked. Foul. And that’s downstairs. And that’s ball two. Movement in the bullpen. Jeff Hoffman preparing to come on if needed. [Applause] and he grounds one to the right side, makes a sliding stop. It’s there and that’s a great play. Just so impressed with the movement on that play. The footwork was excellent. The arm strength was there and of course the most important part was getting the out. Yeah, the batter now, Lawrence Butler. Right through there for a strike. A looking to put the go-ahad run on base. [Applause] [Applause] and a swing and a miss. Now two out. That left-handed batter facing a left-handed pitcher that’s got some sink like that at the end. It’s just the bottom falls out of it, but it looks like it’s going to be a pretty good pitch in that location that everyone says lefties love. Brent Rooker digs in now. And that one hit 97 on the gun. [Applause] Two down, nobody on. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. [Applause] Strike on the inside corner and the count even at one. One and one. sliced hard but foul. Try to send this extra innings. Foul ball still a one and two count. All tied up here in the last half of inning number nine. Down to the dirt, swing, and a miss. Hineman collects, fires to first. That completes the strikeout, and that’ll do it. Now into the game, Max Schuman. He’ll be patrolling center field. So, they’re making a move for a bat off the bench. Alejandro Kirk. Oh, tough spot when you’ve been sitting on the bench all the way into extra inning. [Applause] That’s too low. And that is ball one. One and0. [Applause] Man at second on the inside corner for a strike. Check on the runner and he’s back safely. You know, Boog, if you’re that base runner at second base, you want to be quiet out there, not bouncing around, not distracting your teammate, the hitter. Make sure that he can clearly focus on that pitcher and that release point. Next off, he’s in for a strike. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one, two, don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you can get hurt. swing and blast one down the line. It’s gone if it’s fair, but he hooks foul. Clearly, he was geared up for the fast right there. Maybe got a little jumpy and excited out of the hand, but he certainly didn’t miss a stitch. Kurts steps on first for the eye. Now batting catcher Tyler Heinman. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position. And next for Toronto, Tyler Heinaman. [Applause] And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. in the dirt and an excellent job keeping it right there. One out. The go-ahead run is its second here in extra innings [Applause] on the inside corner for called strike three. Nice work there to get the strike out and that’s a big second out. I’ll tell you this whole crowd will be fired up. they can get out of this and leave that go-ahead run stranded in scoring position. This is a big moment in this game. So now pitch hitter for the Blue Jays, George Springer looking for a two out hit with a runner in scoring position. [Applause] And a breaking ball misses outside. Two down. Go ahead. Run and scoring position. [Music] And there’s the strike. [Applause] That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going [Applause] two in the dirt. Runner holds tight as the count moves to two and two. [Applause] and a swing and a miss. And the Blue Jays go down one, two, three. So, it’s no runs, no base hits, no errors, and one left on. On to the bottom of inning number 10. We are deadlocked at eight apiece. Now to the ball game on defense. Ernie Clemens. He’ll play second. Ernie Clemens, runner in scoring position, no outs. And now the first baseman, Nick Curts, one for four with a double. [Applause] Little back to work. Swing and a miss. Strike one. It’s 0 and one. [Applause] Now the one backed off the plate that time. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] One ball, two strikes. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. And here’s the catcher, Jay Langers. He’s already homerred here in this one. [Applause] Yeah, that’s too high. Blade umpire is trying to tighten things up a little bit. [Applause] Slapped hard the other way, but foul. [Applause] The winning run on second base. Squirts away a little bit. Nice job behind the plate there. [Applause] That’s the ball. Squirts away a little bit. Three1. Rooker up to third on the wild pitch. Nice job right there recognizing the wild pitch and being able to move up to third because of it. Now they’ve got more options in terms of finding a way to bring him home. [Applause] That’s foul. It’s a hitter. You don’t know what to expect here in the 3-2. If he’ll throw a breaking ball 3-1, he’ll do it again. 3-2. [Applause] Ground ball up the middle. It gets through. That’s it. The winning run crosses the plate and the A’s walk it off in extra innings. So exciting to see a team walk it off. Not so much fun if you’re on the other side, but what a great way to win. This team is celebrating and this win is welld deserved. [Applause] And the final here today, 98. The A’s hang on to win it. For Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB The Show, thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
