MLB LIVE🔴 Arizona Diamondbacks vs Los Angeles Angels – Jul 12, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining us. Inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Angels. First pitch coming your way next. And now, please welcome your Los Angeles Angel just about ready to go and towing the slab in this one. Jack Kachanowitz. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Corin Carroll the lead off batter as he swings through for strike one. That’s a strike and it’s on two. Carol takes a swing. Appeal down to third and that’s ruled the swing. It’s a strike out. Here’s Catel Marte. Marte. There’s the strike. 01’s the count. Liner to second and picked on the hop. Fires to first. Nicely done for the out. Now the Diamondbacks lineup as put together by Tory Lavello and Chris. This offense is facing a defense that is well known for kicking the ball around a bit. How aware are you offensively of a bad defensive team? Well, you’re not like completely aware because you’re really focusing on your approach. But I think when you know about a team and how they can be sloppy and as it plays out in a ball game, you’re more intent on saying with two strikes, I got to make sure that I put the ball in play because even if I don’t get a knock, there’s a chance they commit an error and it leads to us scoring more runs. Two out, space is empty. started after it. Appeal to third. No swing. He held up. Carl Dixon with the call there. Now will bullet to second base, but he’s got it to end the inning. And the Diamondbacks down in order. And now the Angels will get their first opportunity in this one. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Angel Stadium, starting in this one, Eduardo Rodriguez. Well, what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strikeout to walk ratio on the season. So, when you consider consistency, the ability to get swings and misses, and to limit base runners, that’s critical in winning games today, especially when teams are depending on the big swing, the home run to win ball games. Bottom of the first. So in now for the Angels. Zack Neto bats in there and it’s 0 and one. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Reaching for it and brings it in. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup. someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs. Mike Trout, he’s really been showing off the pop in this series so far. Two homers and you know, he’d love to add on with another shot today. I’m interested to see how they approach him. And now batting Mike Trout and Chris, one of the trends that we’ve seen over the course of the last five or six years, teams are trying to build their lineup more efficiently and usually putting their best hitter number two like Mike Trout. And the first pitch misses for ball one. The days of hitting that hitter in the third spot or the fourth spot are pretty much over because you’re wasting your best talent. And the fans, if they come to the game and they want to see that guy hit as much as possible as well. People may ask why. No spot in the order comes up with nobody on and two outs more frequently than the number three hitter. One out, base is empty. [Music] fouls it off. Still one and two. Swings through it and that’s a strikeout. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast ball and I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location, but he found a way to just get it by him. Taylor Ward in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Highf fly ball shallow right field. Carol drops into the glove and that’s the inning. Scoreless after one back in Anaheim. Second inning set to go. And here’s the first baseman, Josh Naylor. Coachitz back to work on the ground to first and that one handled and he takes it himself for the out. Batty fifth third baseman Aueno Suarez. Auheno Suarez up to the plate now. Another solid power season. just missed. That’s off the inside corner. And that’s ball two. Oh, he never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Let’s go. That one out to right and no one can get to it. It’s a foul ball. Swings over the top of that one. Man, he really sells the change up with that arm action in the dirt and the count’s full. Second inning here. No score. gets a piece and stays alive. [Music] One down, base is empty. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. And it’s ball four. He missed down low. And that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there. Anyhow, here’s Lordis Guriel Jr. Swings through that one for strike one. 01’s the count. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That one catches the corner for a strike. Not sure exactly what he was thinking there. Good sinker ball pitcher. Goes with the fast ball in a double play situation when he needs something on the ground. And the rightander deals, runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. Well, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. Really locked him up. And it’s a hitter. It’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. Hard to tell. Well, we’ll hold that thought as that’s the third out and we’ll end the inning. One left for Arizona. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. And we’re back. Ready to go for the last half of the unit. Here’s the center fielder, Joe Adell. [Applause] Swinging a foul out of play. And the lefty with the 01. That one fouled off. Chopped left side and it goes just foul. [Applause] swing and a miss and he chases that one in the dirt. Beats him for the first out and that completes the strike out. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Jorge Soler up at the plate. Solair tries to hold up. Appeal to first. Did not go. No fence off the plate. Ball two. Eric Summersgill, our plate umpire. One thing to watch out for, Boog, is what side of the plate Summers Gill might be favoring. He usually sets up at an angle. Pitchers sometimes will try to figure that out early so they can attack that spot and get as many strike calls as possible. None. That one close rule the ball and it’s three and0. How much were you aware of the umpire scouting report or even who was going to be umpiring? Not a whole lot. I mean, there were a couple of umpires that weren’t real good, but outside of that, you just kind of went into the game, especially back when I was playing. As the game has moved along, we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires. I’ve been in clubouses where they have pictures of all four guys, nicknames, hometowns, and as well hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the umpire a little bit. That’s great. Here comes Yan Mona possibly thinking about home run number 100 here. He’s just one shy of that milestone. And first offering is fouled off. Mona needs just one more homer to reach 100 in the big leagues. Ripped on a line. Guriel handles the chance. And that is that. So they make short work of him there. We head on down to the top of the third. No score. And welcome back to the ballpark. Well, here we go. Top of the third scoreless game. Alec Thomas now inside corner and that’s called a strike. Yeah, making it to a 100 homers would be quite the career accomplishment for him. Out of the more than 20,000 players to take an at bat in the majors, less than 5% have ever hit a 100 dingers. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. This one could be trouble. And that’s going to roll to the wall. And that’s a leadoff double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. So, the go-ahead run in scoring position. And now the switch in catcher Jose Herrera swinging a foul straight back. [Music] [Applause] And now it’s even up. Just missed with that back door breaking ball. If he gets a swing and miss or called strike, 02 count instead. It’s 1-1. Look for him to go back to that pitch later in this at bat. To the right side, but that rolls foul. up the middle throws to first in time and one away in the top of the third. Not a bad outcome in that spot. The runner moves up to third and now they have a chance to drive in the go-ahead run. It’s not a knock, but at the end of the day, it’s a good at bat. This is Corbin Carroll let off the game with a strikeout. This is all about situational hitting. It’s crucial in this spot. Do whatever it takes to put the ball in play and hopefully you find a gap in the defense. First pitch misses. Just missed. Go looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. [Applause] That’s down and in. Three balls. No strike. Swing and a tapper that rolls. Foul. [Applause] Fouls one away. And now three and two. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Run scores. [Applause] Well, they strike first as he gets the job done to bring home the run. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. One down. Catel Marte up to the plate. Move over to first. Trying to keep him close. [Applause] Runner on the go. Pitch in for a strike. Safe at second with a stolen base. Chris, his wheels were the difference maker on that play. Just got in there. Yeah, with Statcast’s help, we see his top speed on this stolen base. And that’s a big number. I mean, man, he really made his athleticism work for him on that one. Man at second. This to third. Mona toss to first. They get the out on Marte. And the batter will be the shortstop. Heraldo Peromo. He’s 0 for one. [Applause] on the corner for a strike. Man, I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. Hit on the ground to short. On to first. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. as we go to the last of the third. And here is Logan O’H. And that’s ball one. And another ball right now behind in the count. Two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. text offering upstairs. [Applause] And there’s the automatic taken all the way on 3 0 right there. And as a hitter, you’re saying, “Why couldn’t I get that pitch earlier in the count when I’m looking to swing?” Yeah, that’s fouled off. And here’s a 3-2. And a swing and a miss. That K is his third of the game. Toughest pitch to hit. Fast balls on the outer basement. Man, sometimes you just got to tip your cap. Reo. So up next, Luis Reanifo. A switch hitter batting right. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Just off the outside edge. Right through there for a strike. Two one. The next pitch misses and now three balls and a strike. One strike line drive toss to Naylor and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. Matty Knight first baseman Lamont. Here’s Lamont Wade Jr. Wade Jun. Wade in his sixth season, hitting ninth in today’s lineup. And he was a ninth round draft pick back in 2015. That one not close. And that’s ball one. And that’s outside. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, makes the catch and that is that. Angels go down 1, two, three, and it remains one- nothing. as we go to the top of the fourth. And now it’s Josh Naylor. Tapped in front of the plate. Tosses to first. Leadoff hitter retired in the fourth. Now batting third baseman Aueno Suarez. Aueno Suarez up to hit now. Worked a walk in his first trip to the plate. That one’s in there. And that’s strike one. [Music] [Applause] And a foul ball. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. Next one misses. And the count is one and two. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone. Since you’re heading the count one, two, don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. [Applause] And that one is in the dirt. And now it’s three and two. [Applause] Battling here as he fouls it away. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Swinging a ground ball. Mona toss to first. He made the pitcher ear that out after a long at bat. Leftielder Lordis Goreel Jr. And it’s Lordis Goreel Jr. struck out looking at his first at bat. Griel gets a piece [Music] [Applause] right through there for a strike. [Music] [Applause] That missed inside and count one and two. Sway at a line drive. That’s a base hit into center field and that keeps the inning alive. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. That’s about as textbook as it gets. Got his stride and load out of the way early. He stayed inside that ball and squared it up out front. Man, that was like he was in the cage hitting off a te at the play. Jake McCarthy and there’s a foul ball. Guriel the runner at first with two gone. Just off the inside edge. Angels. All right. swings and misses and the count one and two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Lift it in the air right center field. Solair settles under it and makes the catch. And that’ll do it. One left for the Diamondbacks, but they hold a one- nothing lead. Back here at Angel Stadium and the batter now, Zack Neto, Zack Neto, that’s in there. That’s strike one. Outside with a breaking ball. off the plate inside and it’s two and one swing and a miss and that’s strike two. Two balls, two strikes right through there. Got him. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter. And I’m sure that’s going to sit on her for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. That one in there to Mike Trrowley. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. to the left side, but it is well fouled. [Music] [Applause] Next offering is downstairs. [Applause] Strike three and that’s two in a row. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catch are on the same page right now. leftielder. Here’s the left fielder. Taylor Ward flyed to right his first time. Let’s go. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Handles. Throws to first. Eddie has thrown four shutout innings. Angels go quietly there. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. We go to the top of the fifth and now the center fielder Alec Thomas Cochanowitz back to work. This one chopped on the ground but fouled. Slice the other way and foul. [Music] [Applause] Next pitch is outside. Really good take especially with two strikes. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. [Music] [Applause] misses and the count is two and two on the ground right side and foul ball and a swing and a miss and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Well, he just had no answer for that hard inside fast ball right there. Just pulled it by him. And not every pitcher likes working inside, especially with two strikes. They don’t want to hit a batter and waste an opportunity to put him away. But if you can locate that fast ball just like he did, most hitters aren’t looking for it. And it becomes very difficult to get a piece of this one. Smoked could be trouble around first heading for two and he’ll pull into second safely. Now batting right. Pretty much just a textbook double into the gap. And when you can drop one in there between the outfielders, you know you’re making the turn at first. Just an excellent swing. Next up for the Diamondbacks, Corbin Carroll. Out to short, dives and he can’t hang on. No throw and they come away without an out. Second baseel Marte. First and second, one out. Catel Marte digs in now. Has grounded out a couple of times. Strike one. Got the dish. Looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play. and fouled off. 0 and2 now. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Ball one there. [Applause] And that just misses. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. [Applause] Fly ball center field. Adele moves under it. pulls it down and he makes the catch and there’s two down. Now batting shortstop Haraldo Pomo. Heraldo Purdomo stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Bowl for two in this one. [Applause] Base hit center field. runner around third. Here comes the throw. It’s off the mark and he scores. Well, here we are. Third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump off. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Jack Kachanowitz gives way and he kept him in it even though he’s in line for the loss right now. new arm when we come back. Now pitching for Jose Soraniano will take over here. Well, walks have certainly been an issue for him this season, so we’ll see what kind of command he has. Here’s Josh Naylor. He’s grounded out a couple of times. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Counts one and0. Carol at third. Purdomo at first. Two out of the inning. [Applause] Ball to strike the pitch. in the air left field down the line and that’s the third out. But they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now a two nothing ball game. Back after this on the show. Back in Anaheim. John Shabi with my buddy Chris Singleton. It’s set to get us started. Bottom five. Joe Adell. Angel. Foul ball there. You know, these Angels, they’re not going to be happy with the at bats they’ve been having so far. We’re in the back half of the game and they’re still searching for a base runner. He’s been great out there on the mound, no doubt. But it’s also been a disappointing performance at the plate to this point. Guriel makes the grab. One down. Just pull off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Solair stands in now and watches strike one. And as we get deeper, it’s not going to get any easier. These at bats are going to feel more and more desperate with every out the rest of the way. And that drops in for a strike. The next offering misses. Two balls, two strikes. Two strikes. fouls it back with two strikes. swing and a miss. Struck him out. Now batting. And now Yan Mona. He’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. on the ground out to short and it gets by him. [Applause] Up next for the Angels. Two outs, runner at first. Logan O’Hap getting ready to hit 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Top of the zone for a called strike. comes up empty. That’s strike two. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just got to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. Two outs on the ground to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Another frame in the books as the perfect game falls by the wayside. It’s the Diamondbacks two and the Angels nothing. And we’re back. Top six. Here’s the third baseman, Au Heno Suarez. Third base, Au Heno Suarez. and a pitch. Soraniano in his third season. He features a sinker, a slur, a four seamer, a splitter, and he works in a slider, the one and another ball. He really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. That missed by a lot. And that’s ball three. And that one clips the corner. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] swing and he breaks his back. Wait, pulls it in on the run. Now batting left fielder Lordis Goreel Jr. Here’s Guriel one for two. Let’s go. That one in there across the letters. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Not close with that one. One and one. [Music] [Applause] And that skips in the dirt and it remains two and two. [Music] [Applause] Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Swag and a miss. Struck him out. Two quick outs to open the top of the six. Jake McCarthy stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Jake McCarthy now will bullet to second base, but he’s got it to end the inning. Three up, three down that time. 891 scheduled in the bottom of the six. It’s the Diamondbacks two and the Angels nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom of the sixth inning. Digging in Luis Reano Reano in the first pitch. Misses for ball one. [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Music] [Applause] Next pitch is outside. [Applause] That clips the corner. [Music] That’s foul off to the right side. keeps the AB going. Got him looking and he’s up to seven strikeouts. Now batting. So here’s Wade now. First time up was a pop out. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning. Anything after that a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Right through there for a strike. One and one. [Applause] That one miss. One strike. And a swing and a miss there. Two balls, two strikes. Swing at a ball lifted to center field. Thomas makes the catch and there are two outs. Now batting the shorts stop Zack. So the lineup flips over Zack Neto the next to hit for the Angels and that is downstairs. Ball one. Next offering pop foul off to the right out of play. No, there’s a pitch we haven’t seen in a while. It’s going to be tough on the hitters if he can mix that in whenever he wants. The short stop takes a ball. [Applause] That one misses and the count is three and one. Here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense. 3-1 count. Be ready to turn on a fast ball. [Music] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And he’s up to eight strikeouts in this one. And the Angels are gone in order. And they’re down two nothing. Now pitching for Burke taking over on the mound. Well, he struggled quite a bit. So, this is another opportunity to get on the right track. He’s given up more than one hit per any pitch so far this season. Here’s the center fielder, Alec Thomas. Centerielder, Alec Thomas. A big swing and a miss. Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. And that misses and one and one. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. The swing and a soft liner. Makes the catch for the next batter now. Jose Herrera. Jose Herrera. Well, both sides equally as strong. So, not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. That’s too low and it’s one and0. Swing and a line drive and a base hit up the middle. Now batting right fielder Corbin Carroll. Runner on at first with one gone. Corbin Carroll now at the plate and the first pitch is drilled in the air out to center. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two away now. Now batting second base Cel Marte. An outstanding hitter in Catel Marte. 0 for three in this one. That one finds the zone. Strike one. One’s the count. Herrera off of first with two away. Slap the other way. Foul. [Music] Punch him out. [Applause] Two outs. And that’s off the inside edge. One and two. The count. Caught him looking for the K. So, no runs here on a base hit. No areas and one left. Midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. It’s the Diamondbacks two and the Angels nothing. Bottom of the inning now. Mike Trout. Well, these fans definitely want to get involved in the game. All it’s going to take is to get the leadoff man or even a base runner on. Highf fly ball down the left field line. That’s back and that one is gone. And they’re on the scoreboard. It’s 2-1. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. Didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. [Applause] Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck surface so when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. Ward lays off down low as he digs in for the third time. You just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. Swing and a miss and he was fooled. Activity in the Arizona bullpen. Anthony Dclifani, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Woodford also throwing looking to get the tying run on base. Little bit low. [Applause] rips one to right and there’s one away. Man, that’s so frustrating. You hit the ball hard, you understand the situation, you want to get on base and try to score that tying run, but no reward right there and just going to have to sit on it. Here’s Joe Adel. Right through there for a strike. late on that fast. Well, I’m impressed with that challenge pitch right there. Even with this slim lead, this guy’s not afraid to go right after these hitters. And this is inside. [Applause] Got him swinging. Now batting. So two down now and here is Jorge Solair the outfield playing him to pull with the center fielder positioned in that left center field gap [Applause] and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. One in one. [Applause] Swing and a ball popped in the air. And that’s a fair ball around first and hustling for second. And the double puts the tying run and scored position with two away. I don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So, pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. Really important at bat coming up now. Tory Lavell is out of the dugout and he’s going to make a move here. Eduardo Rodriguez will depart and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. Now pitching for So, they turn to the veteran pitcher in this spot, Anthony Dclani. Pretty big spot he’s coming into trying to strand that runner at second base. So, he’s going to need to make some quality pitches. He does have first open if he needs to use it. Yawan Monata with a chance to hit on a line. Makes the grab and that is the inning. Oh, this guy competes hard. You see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Carson Fulmer. He’s making his second appearance of the season for the Angels. Leading off Heraldo Perova 41. Carson Fulmer swings through that one. Activity in the bullpen for the Angels. Reed Deetmers, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Brogden, the right-hander, loosening up as well. Let’s go, Angels. [Applause] 0 and2 now. And there’s a ball. 02 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. Good eye in that spot. Two two count spoils that one and it remains two and two. [Music] [Applause] and he grounds one to the right side, boots it, still fires to first, and they get the out. Good recovery. Wasn’t easy following the misplay. Batting the first base, Josh Naylor. Next to hit for Arizona, Josh Naylor. And that’s in the dirt. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Swing and a miss. Strike one. I got one ball, one strike. [Applause] Next offering way off the plate, [Music] [Applause] way out front for strike two. Change up right there. Just pulled the string. [Applause] One down, base is empty. Out of the ground to third. Monata toss to first. Two up, two down here in the top of the eighth. Now batting third baseman, Au Heno Suarez. Au Heno Suarez will hit next. That misses the zone. One and0. Counts one and0. Right through there for a strike. He must have been looking for something else cuz he gave up on that pitch a little early. It was right down main street. Probably not going to see a better pitch to hit in this at bat. Swung on. Belted. That one is back. And it’s gone. So he blasts one out the other way. Home run number 30 on the year. It’s 3-1. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. That’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap. And you know, there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that. And probably just as many who don’t have the approach either. He let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here. So to away with nobody on Lordis Goreiel Jr. stands in now for the diamond back drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. Gone off the rocks in center. Touch them all time. They do it again. Backto back homers. His 13th home run of the season. And they add on. It’s 4-1. A little more breathing room is always a good thing in baseball and now they have it. Backto back jacks and this club is fired up right now. Boog. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to grow. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Carson Fulmer done for the night. It’s a three-run game, and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Now, pitching the pitcher on here, Connor Brock. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. So, two down. Next is the designated hitter, Jake McCarthy. [Applause] And first offering is fouled off. [Applause] That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. And that skips in the dirt. [Applause] the other way. He’s got it. And that is out number three. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 4-1. Back here at Angel Stadium. Bottom of the eighth. Here’s the Angels catcher, Logan Ohappy. Oh, got to keep things airtight defensively right here. On your toes, ready to make a play. If you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead, it should be a W. Late with the swing there. Well, in this one, the offense has sputtered. Somebody’s got to find a way to get on, keep the line moving, and manufacture at least one run. Then maybe you get two or three. Swings through that. He has a tendency to chase out of his own and that slider that’s down, that’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss. And that’s downstairs. Going to count one and two, pop jump. Marte makes the grab. One away. Now batting second base, Luis Ranifo the next to hit for the Angels. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Corrals it and there’s two away. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Two out, space is empty. And next for LA, Lamont Wade Jr. That finds the mark on the inside corner. [Music] Cut on and miss. Good change up right there. Oh, with two now. Two strikes. [Music] Hard hit to third. Suarez throw to first in time. Three up, three down. Inning over. Angels held in check. And this is still a 41 ball game. All set to start the ninth in this one. And now the center fielder, Alec Thomas. Brogden 30 years old now and he was a 10th round pick back in 2017 base knock center field runner aboard to start the inning right there does a great job of staying in the big part of the field man there are a lot of hits there here’s the catcher Jose Herrera All right, [Applause] strike one to the catcher. Oh, and one [Applause] and that clips the inside corner. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Kevin Newman appears to be getting loose. Number 39 warming up as well. [Applause] Line to left and that gets down for a base hit and now to a board. Clearly seeing the ball very well in this one. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. First and second, no outs. Here’s the Diamondbacks leadoff hitter, Corbin Carroll, swinging a foul out of play. Thomas at second. Here on it first with nobody out. That one inside and a count even one and one. [Applause] [Applause] Lifted in the air left field. Pretty well struck. And there’s one down. [Applause] Up next for the Diamondbacks, second base, Catel Marte. Now up next for Arizona, Catel Marte. 0 for four. Two ground outs, a fly out, and a strikeout. Singy. He’s a guy that covers both sides of the plate about as well as anyone in the sport. How difficult is that to do? Oh, just look at the back of my bubble gum card. You’ll see how hard it is. These guys got the throw to second and it’s a double play to end the inning. So, it’s no runs on two hits, no errors, and one left. To the bottom of the ninth we go. Top of the order. Do up. It’s the Diamondbacks four and the Angels won. Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Aloy Pile. a chance at his first save of the year. Number nine. So, back to the top of the order. Now, it’s the Angels lead off man. Zack Netto sing. You talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. That is upstairs for ball one. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. Hammered down the right side, but foul. Ball three. [Applause] That one misses. So a lead off walk. They’re not ready to go home quite yet. Up next for the Angels. Man at first. Nobody out. Here’s Mike Trout. He’s already homered here in this one. Great speed and great power. A great athlete quite simply. Well, this one in the dirt [Applause] [Applause] just off the inside edge. Nobody out. Runner at first. [Music] [Applause] That catches the corner up and in. They’re now three and one. Three balls, one strike. [Applause] Bottom of the zone and a cold strike. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. [Applause] On the ground and it finds its way through for a hit. And now runners at the corners. Nobody out. Now that in. And next for the Angels, Taylor Ward outfield deep here trying to prevent anything over their heads. It’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. for him right now at the plate. It’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Late swing fouled off. missed inside with the curb. [Applause] Chases the fast ball up the ladder. Struck him out. Typically that high fast ball, if it’s close to the top of the strike zone, a hitter, if he’s prepared for it, can get to it. But that one just had that little jump at the end which indicates there’s a good spin rate on it and it didn’t decrease in velocity as that hitter’s internal clock would expect it to and that’s why you see the swing and miss. He’s two outs away. And now it’s the Angels cleanup batter Joe Adele and a strike in there with the tying run at the plate here. The last half of inning number nine. The tying run at the plate. Swing and a miss. He struck him out. Now only one out remaining. So digging in, Jorge Solair, one for three. Solair. fall off foul. Well, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Next offering in there for a strike and the count is 0 and two. Pile is just one strike away. Swing and a miss. And that’s the ball game. The ball for his first career save deserves to be on display at his house. I mean, it’s kind of like when a restaurant frames its first dollar bill somewhere in a wall. You just can’t forget your first save. 4-1 the final here today. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
