Royals vs. Mets Game Highlights (7/12/25) | MLB Highlights

Time for a Saturday afternoon ball game at Kaufman Stadium. Beautiful afternoon for baseball. The Royals host the Mets in game two this weekend before the All-Star break. Military day at Kaufman Stadium. And we thank them all for their service. And we thank the 158th General Aviation Battalion, US Army Reserve out of Gardener, Kansas for that really spectacular flyover. It’s amazing. I’m so excited. My adrenaline is killing me right now. I got to calm down. Take a couple deep breaths. And Anel Serpa is on the mound to open the game. Spot starter with Michael Lorenzan scratched from the start due to illness. And Anel Serpa becomes the third Royal in franchise history to start a game on zero days rest. He joins James MacArthur and Josh Stan who both did that in 2023. Brandon NMO last night on base another three times. One for three, two walks in a run. There’s Sarah’s ninth pitch to NMO and he gets him to miss. Finally, strike three. Okay, that worked. You started at him and that kind of locked him up. He wasn’t sure what to do. So, that’s a really good pitch to come in there and rush him in like that. Hitter’s eyes light up, but they normally can’t barrel that. So, Sheriff does a good job. One, two, three, and out. So, Royals coming up here in the bottom of the first, no score. It is Frankie Montas for the New York Mets. For the fourth time in his Mets career, he missed the first portion of the season with a lat injury that he suffered really the first or second week of spring training. Jonathan India leads up against Frankie Montas. That’s pass Bentos down the line into the left field corner. Extra bases for Jonathan India to open the bottom of the first. India continuing to get on base. His 20th double with a beautiful swing. His backside fell out. He was able to keep his hand in his barrel right there to hit that 20th double. Nice swing. India gets on base. He puts himself in scoring position. Pops to second. India at second. One out for Minnie Pascantino. Two and two. Pascantino goes down swinging for the second out of the inning. Good slider by Montage and there’s two away. You know the back foot slider is an artillery. You offer them a down and in pitch and bend it out of the zone. And that’s one of the best ones I’ve seen from Montas since he’s been in a Mets uniform. So Montage gives up the leadoff double but nothing more. Scoreless through one. Already a second pitcher comes on. And now it’s Jonathan Bolan and they’re two men out now. Jeff McNeel. Two two from Bowlolan and a weak swing and a sinker and down goes McNeel. So six up, six down. Bottom of the second, one away now for the Royals rookie Jack Kagleion. Montas rocks and deals the 2-2 and it’s hit hard right side. Diving stop by Batty to his feet. He throws to first. What a play. fully extended glove onto the grass, feet on the dirt, and had plenty of time to curl his body around, set his feet, and make a strong throw for the second out. There’s not a problem there. Beautiful. Here’s Nick Loftton with two outs. A righty. Two outs, three and two on Loftton. Frankie Montas separates and deals. Swing and a miss. Snapped off a slider to put him away. Frankie Monttos has retired six straight. We’re done with two scoreless from the K. Seven in a row retired by Royals pitching to start the game. It’ll bring up Brett Batty. bounces it left side. Played on the backhand by Bobby. Jump throw from the outfield grass. He got him. Oh my gosh, what a play. Boy, off the bat, it looked like it probably going to left center. Bobby went to his right and he got so much on the jump throw that he still got Brett Batty for the incredible 6-3 put out. My goodness. And Vinnie handled the one hop throw beautifully on the other end. An all-star play by an Allstar. Love the defense. He made that look so easy. So, we remain scoreless as we go to the bottom of the third inning. One away in the bottom of the third. Here’s Isbel, the number nine hitter. There’s the 2-2. Swung on a miss. Strike three. That’s Splitter working against Isbel for the second out of the inning. Oh, back to the top of the order. And India, who’s been the Royals only base runner today. India’s hitting 246 on the year. The 3-2 swing and a miss and a fist bump from Frankie Montas as he finds the right recipe to put away Jonathan India and strike out two. Nine in a row retired by Montas. Scoreless as we head to the fourth inning. It’ll be Lindor, Sodto, and Alonzo for the Mets. Lindor flew out to right field in the first and he smacks one into right field for a leadoff base hit to continue his dominance over the Royals. 29 home runs, 81 RBI’s in his 100 games played against the Royals. most versus any opponent in both categories. And it looks like a little change up that stayed right in the middle of the plate and Lindor took care of it. Look at this side swing. How much torque and power tough to run on these Royals. They’ve only allowed 20 stolen bases this season. Juan Sto coming up. And there goes Lindor. No throw. So Francisco Lindor steals a bag. 21 stolen bases now against Kansas City. He got kind of a hopping skipping triple jump lead here at first base. So was no chance. So the veteran Perez just held on to the baseball. So Lindor is safe now. 15 out of 17 in stolen bases and he’s in scoring position with nobody out. Payoff pitch to Juan Sodto and he smacks this one to deep right field. Going back is KaggleΓ³, but all he can do is watch a monster shot into the second level of the Fountains and the Mets up two nothing. Well, at this ballpark, it’s a prodigious home run if you throw it into the waterfall. And that’s what Sodto did right there. 23rd home run of the season for Juan Sto as his standout first half continues. It has been a quiet afternoon for the Royals offense so far against Frankie Montas. The Royals have just two hits against him today in five innings. Time to set that table up right here. Elizabeth struck out his first time up. There you go. And there it is. Table set with a leadoff hit. That’s start do if you feel it. Hustles to second in there for a double. Yeah, that’s what you’re talking about. It’s 95 first pitch. Yeah, they’re looking for it now. That’s the last hitter. Second time through. Now they’re the hitters are third time through against Mo. See if they can make some adjustments. Do the little things. Get them on, get them over, get them in. So now a runner in scoring position for just the second time today. Here’s India. Right to third over Ventos down the line. Isbell’s in to score to cut the deficit to one. Jonathan India replaces him at second with his second double of the day. That’s exactly what he wanted to do. the job. Get the runner over or in. He floats something that’s slow. Go ahead and turn on him. Yeah, that’s exactly what he did. He got it high enough to get it over Ventos. Ventos and then knocks in another run. That was the last batter of the afternoon for Frankie Monttos, who was great, but leaves with the tying run on second base. Now Bobby W Jr. steps to the plate to face Reed Garrett. He makes his 39th appearance of the season. His second appearance of this season. He did throw a scoreless eighth inning yesterday. against the bottom part of the Royals lineup. Popped up. Batty scrambles back to the outfield grass. And that’s the first out of the inning. It’s up to Vinnie to pick him up here. Now Alonzo snares it and that’s the second out of the inning. And India is still at third base. Now it’s up to Garcia to see if he can find a hole. Slice to right. McNeel’s there and the inning is over. So, the Royals get one, but they’re limited to one and the Royals are on the board. We go to the seventh. 2-1 Mets. New pitcher for the Mets is Chris Dinsky. Yeah, he cleaned up the game last night after the Mets scored seven runs in the last two innings. Salvi leads off against a new pitcher, Chris Dinsky. 3-2 check swing pitch away. He did not go around and the potential tying run is at first. And now it’s Loftton. Salvi still at first base now with one out. The first pitch hits Loftton and that’ll move Salvi into scoring position. The Royals have it first and second. One out. John Rave has grounded out twice today. Here’s the pitch and a swing and a one hopper grabbed by the second baseman to second for one. Back to first. Safe. Ra speed helps him avoid the double play. First and third. Two down and the batter will be Kyle Isel. And a swing and a chopper to the right side. It’s by the diving first baseman, but Luis Anelakun is behind him to back him up, field it, throw to the pitcher, covering, and the Royals fail to score. As we go to the eighth inning, Carlos Mendoza not messing around here, bringing Edwin Diaz on in the eighth inning. A one-run lead. Bobby Wit is 0 for three. Flight out to deep left field in the fourth inning. And he misses badly with another ball four. Potential tying run on base. There he goes. It’s a pitch out. Throws on target. Whit beat it. And the Mets are challenging. Oh, there was a really close one yesterday. Did he get him on his backside before he got No. Oh, he’s stay on the base. Stay on it. Good slide. Stay. Looked to me like he stayed on the base the whole way. After review, the call on the field is overturned. The runner did not maintain contact with the base during the pass. The runner is out. New York will retain their challenge. Oh, come on. That is twice in two days. Wow. That’s unbelievable. That is [Music] crowd now really unhappy. On to the ninth we go. Two to one New York. One away. Pete Alonzo. Next man up. 0 for three on the afternoon. Off the end of the bat into right field. Going back is KagleΓ³ on the warning track. It’s over his head and that’ll be off the fence. Pete Alonzo rounds first. He’s in standing at second with a double. There’s two away. Here’s Jeff McNeel looking to give the Mets a little bit of breathing room and he scorches a base hit up the middle and that should do it. Rounding third is Pete Alonzo. He’ll score standing up and it’s a big time RBI knock for Jeff McNeel. Mets lead up to three to one. He gets a pitch he likes and he just hits it hard. It’s on the ground. Ersay gets a ton of ground balls but he hit it hard and it found a hole right up the middle of the field. Bottom of the ninth we go. And the Royals are down by two. Garcia scorches one to right center field. And what a grab by Tyrone Taylor. The athleticism covering the ground and a sliding grab for route number one. And now Shley up there. Ground ball to Brett Batty at third base. And there’s two away. So it’s up to Jack Kagleion now 0 for three into center field. Tyrone Taylor grabs it and that’ll do it. Edwin Diaz, a six out save and the Mets with their second win in a row, a 3-1 final over the Royals. It’s just an all-around sweet game by the Metropolitans.

  1. Let’s see if we can sweep tomorrow. Gonna be great to see Sean Manea make his season debut tomorrow, but I thought that call was horrible. I thought Bobby Witt Jr stole the base.

  2. I want to see that overturned call from every angle. It sure looked like his leg made contact with the bag prior to his arm coming off the bag. Like the announcers were saying yesterday, it takes the fun out of the game to be legalistic by millimeters.

  3. That Matt Quatraro is just a freaking genius isn't he? Is he trying to set a record for pitchers used in a game? He couldn't manage a checking account.

  4. You know in baseball when they can show the replays that was bad that guy was safe but you know it's New York they want him to win

  5. I don't know about that overturned call at second base, but I do like to see the mets win. (Personally, I thought that KC got robbed, but I didn't have the umps' view, so be that as it may.)
