Braves vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (7/12/25) | MLB Highlights

Penny making his 19th start of the season. Look, we know the struggles that he has had as of late. Last three starts. Got an erra north of 15. Time to flip the script here for the veteran right-hander. We just showed you the lineup, the puzzle pieces today with Austin Riley going on the IIL. That means Ronald Kun Jr. is going to bat third. Georgian Profar is going to lead off. So, we’ll see how that puzzle kind of works. And a popup that’s out to second. Donovan’s got all the room in the world. And Fetty jams the Braves leadoff hitter to get things started. Here’s Matt Olsen and he swings the first one and drives it toward right center. Scott on the run and a step onto the track. So Fetty two out, seven pitches. And for the first time in his career, Ronald Akuna Jr. steps in as the three-hole hitter here in the first inning. And he socks one high in the air deep to left. That ball is into the Braves bullpen. Ronald Akuna Jr. gives the Braves a one- nothing lead. A towering blast. I guess he likes the three hole. We found out two things in this series. One, Shawn Murphy can DH. Two, Ronald Akuno Jr. can bat third. First time ever in his career. A non-issue. Nothing is different. Another bomb and a big one against the sweeper that did not sweep very much at all. Right in the middle of the plate. A high one, but plenty of distance there into the Braves bullpen. Here’s Shawn Murphy. Now Shawn Murphy cracks one to right. Park’s going to hold this one though. But the Braves pick up an early run. A home run by Ronald Akuna. Aaron Bummer. His second career start after making his first last Sunday. He was great. First two innings were really solid. Land ran into a little bit of trouble in that third. But try and beauty. Bunner will throw that one short at first. So Donovan takes what the defense gives him. He’s got a punt single. One- nothing Braves. There’s Mason Win. 1-1 as a curve ball lifted to deep center but Michael Harris has got it. Here’s Contraras. He’s heating up and he laces one to Allen. Throw back over to first. Good read by Donovan. Two down. So here’s Berles. Alec had two hits in an RBI last night. Riding a four game hit streak and the two is raked that way. Coming on. He makes a catch just above his shoelaces. And that ends the bottom of the first inning. We go to the top of the second. One- nothing Braves. Here comes Marcelo Zuna, the former Cardinal. and he leads it off for the Braves in the top of the second. Marcel Ozuna slugs one deep to left. That ball is carried and it’s out of here. An obliteration from Marcel Ozuna, his 13th homer of the season. And a couple of solo shots for the Braves this afternoon. It appears that the power stroke is starting to come back now for Marcel who was dealing with that hip issue. We saw him go to the opposite field against the A’s on this road trip. And now to the pull side here. That is his third career home run in 16 at bats versus Fetty. And he eats his lunch once again. And Aussie Alb’s on the first pitch and he pulls one through the right side for a base hit. So far the Braves are hacking. Four of the first six hitters have swung at the first pitch. Nacho Alvarez climbing in and off goes Aussie and Alvarez shoots it through the right side beautifully. Runners in the corners for Atlanta. And here comes Michael Harris and he grounds one past Contras. Donovan throws to Fetty covering it first. They get the out, but Aussie Alb comes in to score. Good job by Michael. Productive outs. We talk about those at bats. Runner at third, less than two outs. You’ve got to find a way to get him in. And while Michael is searching for some hits, he’ll take that. That is a big positive. And Joel Poso will lead off the Cardinal catcher. There’s a shot by Po that’s headed for the left field wall. It’s going to be a leadoff double for Joel Poso. Good start to the bottom of the second. Nitbar does the job. He moves Po up with a ground ball to Matt Olsen now facing Thomas Saji shot to right field. It won’t matter a base hit. So Saji with a big run scoring hit his 10th RBI and the Cardinals come right back. It’s a 3-1 game. Well SJC again doing a fantastic job of utilizing the whole field. Wanted it in. Ended up middle. Hands inside the baseball and just pass the gold glover to drive in the first of the game for the Cardinals. That brings up Nolan Gorman hitting eighth. He’s hit seven homers since June 1st. That one driven high toward right. Auna back. Gorman has just tied this game. Chip left on left right here. Gorman does it again. Sinker in. Opens up and drives this thing over the bullpen for his ninth of the season. What a shot there by Gorman. Akuna knew it was gone. And that gives the Cardinals and Eric Fetty new life. It’s a three-3 game. That ball exploded off Gorman’s back. Whose bullpen’s going to crack first here in game two. We’re tied 3-3 after five innings. So it’s up to Po to keep the sixth inning alive for St. Louis. He doubled and scored his first time up. Highf fly ball deep. Po has left the ballpark. A two out solo homer. So the first bullpen to crack is Atlanta tip. Joel Po keeps coming up with huge huge moments. this one here to give the Cardinals the lead in the sixth inning. 46 ft shot. Second homer of the day for the Cardinals. Gorman a two-run shot. Poso with a go-ahead homer and the Cardinals now up four to three. Nolan Gorman the batter as that one bunted. It was a slider throw to first is going to be not in time. That is only the eighth hit Lee has given up on the slider. It was a bunch from Gorman who’s had the long and short of it at the plate on a two-hit day. Let’s see what Victor Scott can do in this situation. Back to the mound. Lee strong throw. So Nolan Gorman finds himself in scoring position. A good bunt by Victor Scott. And now it’s Donovan’s turn with a runner at second. Two out line to the right center field. That’s a base hit. Here comes Gorman. Donovan does it again. A two-run lead. But what a job here by Donovan. You know that Lee likes that slider a lot. Good chance you’re going to get one with two strikes. He gets it. It’s down. It’s away. And he’s able to go down and get it. And let’s give part of that RBI to Victor Scott whose butt advanced. Gorman into scoring position. Mason win on the afternoon. 0 for three so far. That one got away from Murphy and Donovan was scampered to second. Well, this is perfect. Right base hit brings in another run right now with this one. Griner right to Allen. He’s got it chest high. And that ends the bottom of the seventh. Phil Mai will come on to pitch the eighth inning. He’s only allowed one run in his last five outings. This might be the Braves best crack at it. Trailing by two runs. Here’s Jerken Proar. Two-2 is club down the right field line. That is a fair ball and on two hops it kicks off the wall. Proar a leadoff double here in the eighth. Will bring the tying run to the plate. And Monton gets his first man and Proofar is still at second base with Ronald Akuna Jr. coming to the plate. Here’s your ball game right here. Oh boy. He has homered. There’s the curve ball and well good poise by Ronald Akuna Jr. That was an emotional at bat at the start. Ball six. Take your back. Yeah, no kidding. So the tying runs are aboard now and Shawn Murphy 0 for three today but two home runs last night. And Murf socks one high in the air deep left field. That ball is carried and it is off the top of the wall and that is a home run. Shawn Murphy gives the Braves the lead. He creams one to left field and the Braves take a 65 lead in the eighth as Shawn Murphy gives the Braves a power surge here in the eighth. What a huge homer by Murphy. And what a streak he’s been on. Seven home runs the last nine start for Shawn Murphy. Three in this series. The first home run given up by Maton. Murf blasts this thing and puts the Braves in front. So, Alec Berles at the plate. He is 0 for three today, but he could run into one potentially. And there’s walk number 22 allowed by Hernandez. That represents the tying run. Two outs. Firm mean is next. Three 0 pitch. And that missed. So, first and second. And here’s Saji. All four. What a trip to the plate by Saji. The Cardinals load him up with three walks. And Gorman’s had a good day. He’s homered. He’s got a bunt single and he’s scored twice. Now he gets away. That’s going to tie the game on a ball in the dirt. How about that? Dell Hernandez who’s been having a fantastic season. You see the stuff, but he has lost all command here in the eighth inning. We walks in the inning. The wild pitch brings him around. So a two- two count. A hit gives you a two-run lead here. But it’s not to be as Gorman’s down on strikes. Helley will be facing 789 for the Braves here in the ninth inning. Ground ball yanked through the left side for a base hit. Nacho Alvarez couple of hits today. Austin Riley likes it. So leadoff man aboard for Atlanta. The one to Michael Harris. He squares, drops it down first base side. Helley looks to apply the tag. He does. And the sacrifice bunt from Michael Harris puts the go-ahead run into scoring position. And now a great opportunity, not surprised at all to see Drake Baldwin coming off the bench with this very important runner in scoring position. And Drake Baldwin sprays into left field and Freddy Gonzalez throws up the stop sign on Alvarez. And Juren Proar who began the three-run eighth inning rally with a leadoff double has a chance to give the Braves the lead back. Ground ball right side. This is going to get the run home. Proofar is retired, but the Braves have the lead. Excellent work by Jurgen Proar. And kind of surprising, how about this inning? Two 02 opportunities for Helley. And he gives the Braves pitches that they can handle. And Jurgson does his job right there with that ground ball to the right side. And Rice Glacius takes over on the mound. And this will be the third straight day for Rice Glacius. He has been throwing the ball very well. But we know this can be a tall task. What he has done so well in his last couple, like he always does when he’s right, he’s been efficient. Swing it away. A ground ball. Putt it out to Azie. One away. One out for Brendan Donovan who’s two for three. One, two. He got him. Bryce Elacius brings the noise past Donovan and there’s two down. Iggy takes care of him on four pitches. Beautifully done here. Elevated fast ball at 95. One more out to get. Mason win is 0 for four. Ground ball chopper left side. It’s going to be Williams. He makes the play and the Braves win it in dramatic fashion there on the left side of the infield. And Atlanta bucking the trend. That is back-to- backerun victories. Statement wins I think for this team because the one-run games had been an issue. And how nice is it to have this version of Riceell Glaciius back? He has been locked in. We saw a lot of clutch hitting today. Shawn Murphy at it again in a huge spot here in St. Doors.

  1. VERY happy with series win – against a very good team. Keep Ronald at 3, continue playing ABC Baseball….and we’ll turn this lousy Season around yet.

  2. Love the new lineup, imagine this lineup with riley at 5th and baldwin and murphy dh’ing and nacho looked great too hope to see more from him in the future.

  3. Wooooo!!! Murphy is sizzling!! No day off for you tomorrow! Ronald! You are the man!!! Sure up 5hat defense and we may have a laugher Sunday!!! Let's go Atlanta Braves!!!

  4. Okay. If the Braves can finish the sweep against the Cards tomorrow, win a series against NY, the series against SF, sweep the Rangers and sweep the Royals Atlanta would be 53-54 at the end of July.

  5. Every single MLB game is controlled by betting conglomerates. It is obvious if you just take the time to watch. Learn mathematics and probabilities, and you will understand. Then you will realize that this is so evil that everything has to be owned by devil worshipping, child touchers and child fluid drinkers. Wake up and change the world.
