Summer League: Will Hickey Chicago Bulls Interview

David Hickeyi here with the Chicago Bulls, mate. Las Vegas summer league. How’s it feeling? Crazy experience. Happy to be here. Um, it’s wild to be some to see some of the superstars coming out and, you know, even the guys that are playing here. Um, it’s pretty crazy. Just a sural experience. Happy to be here. Obviously, it was a lot when you first got here coming off the plane and getting it all done. Hard to adjust quickly, but how’s the reception been from the coaching staff? What What are you learning so far? Um, a lot. A lot. It’s a lot quicker out here. Um, you got to adjust pretty quickly. um not a lot of time for, you know, mistakes. So, it’s on the ball, but it’s it’s a great experience to know like this is the level that you need to be at. You know, you’re here with Lucky Orbrook as well. We know he got drafted and he’s got a two-way. It’s exciting. Being able to do this and experience it together must be special. 100%. You know, we just want to chip together. Make sure you remember that. But, um coming out here and then having him here just made everything just that little bit easier, you know, like um going into things, going into the training, just just settled it down like, “All right, this is a familiar face.” And yeah, big old big old is a good familiar face to have. Every time I talked to you, your story is incredible that to get to this point to see Chicago Bulls with a hickey on the back. Is it surreal? Yeah, 100%. I was just having a combo of boys. Like I’m going to be real. A lot of people didn’t expect me to make it out play in the NBL, let alone the summer league, you know? So, I’m going just keep reiterating. I’m just happy to be here. When my time comes, it’s it’s the same thing that’s always been. I’m going to be ready. So, if it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t, great experience, man. I get to go back home and hoop with the Hawks. It’s been a whirlwind few months after coming off a championship, then getting this call up. How do you stay grounded through it all? I mean, this is how I was raised. Shout out to my grandmothers, you know, shout out to my family. Just keep me humble. We’re looking to There’s still plenty of time left in the summer league and you’re seeing Lucky Aubrey do it, but in that first game, you get checked in, getting up and in doing the Davo Hickeyi stuff that we love. We know there’s a lot more out there as well, but being able to get up and in. Did it feel even better? 100%. That’s what I do. A little gritty nitty, you know, jump on the ball, hustles. You You’ll see more of it hopefully. So, stick to it, man. We love seeing it. But also, I got to mention because straight after that, Bley Bales got on, did his thing as well. But what’s it like to share this moment here in the biggest stage with him? I mean, it was before, but it was hectic. Like, we got home, he talked about it, and I’ll keep saying it. It’s it’s for us, too, you know, out of Red Fern being where we we’re from. Um, it’s a big thing for our community and and and especially like Black Fellows watching all around Australia, you know, like a lot of people that will hit um Ricky Baldwin up down in down in um Victoria, you know, just about us. And it’s a thing that we I I I myself carry a big pride, you know. So my boy getting in and doing his thing, you know, it’s a it’s a definitely a surreal thing having our names on the back out there on an NBA jersey. So regardless of the situation, who wants to say what, it’s, you know, we’re here, man. It’s so special. And again, this is just the beginning of something even more special.
