Steelers News: Arthur Smith Is Rebuilding The 2020 Titans Offense (Only Better?) In Pittsburgh

[Music] 2020 was Arthur Smith’s final season with the Tennessee Titans. And inarguably his most productive season as an offensive play caller in the National Football League. And this year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he is rebuilding that style of offense for the Pittsburgh Steelers. And honestly guys, this year’s version of that offense under Arthur Smith might be even better than what it was in Tennessee. Welcome in to Steelers Talk. I’m your host, Jax Sperry. Before we get into the Steelers offense this year and why I think Arthur Smith is about to really ramp things up offensively here in Pittsburgh, click that thumbs up icon if you are excited for this season for the Black and Gold. My prediction is this is going to be the best offensive campaign for the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2017. If you’re with me on that and you’re excited, click that thumbs up icon to kick off today’s show. So, first, let’s talk about that 2020 Titans offense that got Arthur Smith hired as a head coach in this league with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021. And you look at the production from Tennessee that year, man. Top 10 in all the categories you look at. Fourth in scoring offense, over 30 points a game with Ryan Tanill as their starting quarterback. Third in total offense, seventh in third down offense. It’s the worst metric on this uh on this on this uh graphic. By the way, second in red zone offense with 74% of their red zone trips, leading to touchdowns and only 12 giveaways, which was second fewest in the NFL that year. So, one of the best offenses in the National Football League, leading to a number one seed in a loaded AFC with other quarterbacks in that conference like Josh Allen, like Patrick Mahomes, like Joe Burrow, like Lamar Jackson, the same teams that the Steelers are going to be trying to compete with this year. And the subtle beauty of Arthur Smith’s offensive scheme is that it isn’t anything fancy. It’s not like, you know, the RPO and motionheavy offenses that you see in San Francisco and in Miami and in Minnesota and all these different scenes and those are great schemes, don’t get me wrong, but the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arthur Smith, you know, has a little bit more of an older school approach and it’s a little bit more simple. But when all the pieces are working together, it creates one of the most unstoppable offensive schemes in the National Football League. And for Art, it all starts with the zone run game. whether it’s outside zone, whether it’s inside zone, whether it’s split zone, whether it’s mid zone, he loves his zone rushing concepts, and he loves to marry the playaction passing game off of those zone concepts. So, the foundation of this offense is you have to have a really good run game. Okay, the offense’s success is very dependent on the run game because a lot of the passing game is dependent on the playaction passing game. If you don’t have the good run game to pair with that, uh, defenses are not going to respect your play action passing game. Your offense doesn’t stay on schedule, and you’re in third and long, and you’re in shotgun and 11 personnel a lot, which Arthur Smith does not thrive in. And in Tennessee in 2022, it certainly helps to have a prime Derrick Henry on your offense. And he was the main engine of that offense that year. It was his best season as a pro. The only season where he had over 2,000 yards rushing. Uh he had over 125 yards per game that season. Uh carried for over five yards per carry at 5.4 and had 17 total touchdowns. Uh he was absolutely phenomenal. Definitely the best back in football. He led the league in rushing that year. But what was even crazier about Derrick Henry’s season that year and then Arthur Smith’s ability to scheme things open for him there in the run game is that Tennessee’s offensive line was was good. don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t necessarily like Philadelphia Eagles dominant either. You take a look at the people that uh had the most reps at their given positions that year. Remember Taylor Lewan went down in week five that year with a major injury. He was out for the rest of the season. So, they had David Quenberry as their starting left tackle. He had a decent PFF grade, but he’s certainly nothing to write home about. Their other tackle, Dennis Kelly, no longer a starter in the National Football League. He was their starting right tackle. Nate Davis stinks and he had a 71.1 PFF grade that year in this offense. Now, Ben Jones and Roger Saffold were really good this year uh back in 2020 and they were great fits in this scheme, but it’s not like these guys are just like a dominant mauling type of offensive lineman, which certainly gives some hope for the Pittsburgh Steelers to have a successful offensive line this year in this scheme. And when it comes to last year at the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arthur Smith tried to implement this runheavy approach with Naji Harris and Jaylen Warren. But Warren dealt with with injuries on and off throughout the season. And Naji just playing simply like he has throughout his entire career just hasn’t been super efficient. Even though he had over a thousand yards, again, that’s mostly because of of the amount of carries that he had. The Steelers were fifth in rushing percentage last year. Just under 50% of their offensive plays were rushing attempts. That was top five in the league. But, you know, despite really trying and really trying to get the run game going, 25th in yards per attempt, 24th in total EPA last year, and then 28th in success rate, which is 36.9% of their rushing attempts being deemed successful according to the EPA metrics. And then because of that, uh, you look at the the offensive production last year and Russell Wilson was able to do some good things last year. He did protect the football. uh they had some big games statistically and because of that you were able to get to 16th which is you know right in the middle in terms of scoring offense but then the total offense 23rd that’s below average the third down offense was fine but then the red zone offense 29th in the league the Steelers were not very good whatsoever rushing the football which put a cap on just how good this Steelers offense could be in 2024 and plain and simple guys it comes down to this okay if the Steelers cannot develop a top-notch run game under Arthur Smith here in 2025. It’s going to be an uphill climb for this team to be uh the true Super Bowl contenders that they’re trying to be this year and have uh that top 10 offense that this team has not been able to build uh since the Killer B era. Now, the good news is here, guys, is that the run game, I think, is in good hands this year. And I think it is better and it will be better this year than it was last year uh with Jaylen Warren and Caleb Johnson, the rookie out of Iowa, coming in. We’ll start with Jaylen Warren because he’s going to be the presumptive RB1 to start this season. And I think as a bridge RB1, I do think Caleb is eventually going to be the early down quote unquote RB1 in this offense. But in the interim, while KJ gets ready, Jaylen Warren is one of the more underrated running backs in the entire National Football League. Warren in his first three years uh in the National Football League, one out of three running backs in NFL history to average five or more yards per touch in three straight seasons. All right. So, he’s one of the most efficient running backs we have ever seen in the first three years of his career. It’s unfortunately he hasn’t gotten more touches because Naji Harris was the lead back here. But now that Naji is out and Warren is in, he’s going to have more opportunities. And since 2022, his first year in the league, guys, he’s number two in explosive run rate, number six in yards after contact, so he’s excellent at breaking tackles. He’s number six in yards per carry, so the efficiency is really good. and he’s number six in success rate. So, I fully expect Jaylen Warren to be a huge upgrade at number one running back compared to what Naji Harris was providing for this team last year. And yes, eventually Caleb Johnson is eventually going to take over that early down role. If you’re looking for somebody to fill that quote unquote Derrick Henry role in this offense, uh Caleb is 230, right? He is very big and he’s very fast. He was he was listed at over 22 miles per hour multiple times at Iowa last year for being that size. And when he once he gets to that second level, guys, with that speed and with that size combination, he like Derk Henry, he’s very hard to bring down. Now, he’s not quite as big as King Henry is, and I’m not necessarily saying he is going to be Derk Henry uh back in 22 back in 2020 this season, right? I think he’s going to have his rookie, you know, lumps. He’s going to have to take those lumps. He’s not very good as a pass catcher right now. He’s not very good as a pass protector because he just didn’t do those things at Iowa. So, he’s going to have some uh areas of the position that he’s going to have to learn, but he’s such a perfect fit for the outside zone running scheme on early downs that Arthur Smith wants to run with uh this Steelers offense. And I think it’s it’s just set up to be a perfect transition because you got Jaylen Warren to be a good number one running back while Caleb is starting to get acclimated to the league. But whenever he’s ready, Jaylen Warren can just go back to being arguably the best third down running back in the National Football League. And then the best case scenario for this group, guys, is Caleb Johnson is an immediate star in this league, which he has the potential to be. And then you got Jaylen Warren on those uh pass heavy downs to be a pass protector, to be a pass catcher, to be a screen threat, to do all those different things for this team. And it could be one of the best running back duos in the National Football League in very short order. And then when it comes to third down work, while Jaylen Warren is in there as the number one running back, this is why they bring in a guy like Kenny Gainwell in free agency, who’s a really good third down back in his own right. Plus, if KJ or Jaylen Warren, god forbid, go down with an injury, Kenny’s more than capable of going in there and being that third down back, uh, you know, the Steelers really made it a point of emphasis. They saw how the Jaylen Warren injury last year affected this running back room in this rushing game, uh, as a whole. They didn’t want that to happen this year. So, getting a good depth piece like Kenny Gainwell was huge for them. And I actually think on the first depth chart of the season, Kenneth Gainwell might be the number two running back on the Steelers depth chart because of that. Now, Pittsburgh’s running back rotation has a chance to be special in my opinion, guys. All right. Uh, you know, you got a guy in Caleb Johnson who’s big, he’s fast, he’s a big play threat, and he’s a perfect fit for the zone rushing scheme that Arthur Smith wants to run. He’s eventually going to be that quote unquote Dererick Henry type of running back in this scheme. And then you got Jaylen Warren, who’s going to be one of the best uh third down backs in the National Football League, if not the best in his own right. So, I think that this has a chance to be a really special combination here in Pittsburgh. And I hope they can keep these two guys in the running back room here in Pittsburgh for as long as possible. But Jack, what about the offensive line? Uh, these running backs can only be so good if the offensive line stinks, right? And that’s absolutely true, guys. The offensive line here in Pittsburgh, in my opinion, is the biggest X factor that’s going to decide just how good the Steelers are on offense and how good they are as a team this year. If they stink and these younger players don’t develop, this this team’s going to have a cap on them both offensively and as a whole. But there’s a lot of talent here, guys. First round picks on the book ends of your tackle positions there. Brick Jones and Troy Futano. Mason McCormack is another very physically talented young player that’s going to be looking to take a year 2 leap here. Seamalo and Frasier are very solid, but we saw in that Tennessee Titans offensive line earlier in the show, guys, that that group had a lot of question marks as well. and they were still able to be very very good. The question marks on the Steelers O line this year are very uh legitimate. Brick Jones has been terrible at right tackle his first two years in the league. Is he going to play better at left tackle? He really needs to if he wants to maintain a maintain a starting position on this team. Can Mason McCormack after struggling a little bit his rookie season take that year 2 leap? I have certain faith that he will be able to do that, but we’ll see. And then Troy Futano, he played really good in that one game. He did play against the Broncos last year. really good pass rush by the way that he was able to styy. Uh but he’s got chronic knee issues or at least that’s the fear. So can he stay healthy? That’s going to be a big question mark as well for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But if all these guys kind of, you know, take another step forward and this is a pretty darn good offensive line this year. We already talked about the running back room. I think that this group has a lot of talent and potential. Um, and I think that if they hit that this could be one of the best run games in the National Football League, just like the Titans was in 2020 under Arthur Smith. So, predict it for me down there in the comments section. Will the Steelers have a top 10 run game in 2025? Simply give me a yes or a no down there in the comments section. All right, so now let’s shift over from the run game, which is going to be the foundation of the Steelers offense, to the passing game, which is going to provide a lot of the explosive elements uh that work off of that run game. And it all comes down to Aaron Rogers, the quarterback, guys, because if the run game can get going, that’s going to open up the passing attack in play action, which everybody knows is a big staple of the Arthur Smith offense. And this offense, you know, was perfect for Ryan Tanahill. And it really did elevate what he was able to do from a production standpoint. He wasn’t able to put up these kinds of numbers in any other offense throughout his career. The only one he was able to do it with was Arthur Smith. But in 2020, man, one of the most productive quarterbacks in all of football. Over 3,800 yards, 33 touchdowns, just seven interceptions. Okay, this guy had a phenomenal season in this offense. And you take a look at some of the advanced numbers, it continues to show that, right? Second in EPA per play, second in success rate, his completion percentage over expectation was 11th. That’s still pretty darn good. And then his yards per attempt efficiency was top five as well. So, he was one of the best uh quarterbacks in the league from a production standpoint, whether you’re looking at the pure numbers or the analytics, but his big-time throw percentage, which is, you know, according to PFF, the amount of throws where he was elevating the room and he was putting it in a super tight window. It it’s not schemed open, etc., just 3.7% of his throws that year were big- time throws. So that tells me that Arthur Smith and the run game and the playaction game was opening up a lot of open windows for him to throw to. He had a lot of open receivers to throw to. Now to Tanah Hill’s credit, one of the strengths of his game is that he is so good of playing in rhythm, okay? Like he is somebody that’s able to do a good job uh you know playing in rhythm, playing on time, getting the ball to his receiver when it’s supposed to get there and executing the offense. Um, and that’s why he was able to have so much success there with the Tennessee Titans under Arthur Smith. But another way that we know uh that that you know Ryan Tanahill was elevated by Arthur Smith scheme here, guys, is because he was never able to replicate the numbers that he had in this scheme elsewhere. Okay? When Arthur Smith left, he took a big step backwards. When he was with Adam Gase with the Miami Dolphins before playing under Arthur Smith in Miami, uh, same story, not enough production or at least not as productive as he was with the Tennessee Titans. So, now we take a look at Aaron Rogers, okay? And he’s another guy that thrives on playing on time and within rhythm. He won two MVPs in Green Bay in an offense led by Matt Lafleur, who by the way, Arthur Smith uh was on a Matt Lafleur staff in Tennessee before he went to Green Bay. Um, you know, these two offenses really depend on play action, playing within rhythm, playing on time, and there’s really not a ton of quarterbacks in the league history that play on time better than Aaron Rogers, man. And which is why I’m so excited for this fit. And you can’t tell me that even at his prime, Ryan Tanahill at any point during his NFL career is better than what Aaron Rogers is right now. Even at 41 years old, I still think Aaron Rogers is better than Tanahill ever was. And you guys can just take a look at the numbers comparing Rogers in 2024 to Tanahill in 2020. In terms of elevating the unit, Rogers in 2024 was top 10 in big-time throws according to PFF last year with 26. Tanahill was 19th in 2020 with only 20. So in terms of those third and longs, in terms of those twominute drills, terms of those moments when the defense knows you have to throw the football, Rogers is going to be able to provide more of that to this offense than Tanahill was in 2020. And then also another really important aspect to this equation here is is uh is protecting the football and Rogers has the lowest interception percentage in league history. He has the best touchdown to interception puh ratio in league history and he was top five last year in turnover worthy play percentage. Whereas Tanal back in 2020 was putting it in harm’s way quite a bit. He was 30th in that metric which with 3.9% of his plays being deemed turnover worthy by Pro Football Focus that year. So Rogers is the better quarterback here. And if you can take a look at the production from Tanahill back in 2020, if Rogers gets even close to that production, I think Steelers fans are going to be very, very happy. Now, the final component that I want to talk to you guys today about the Arthur Smith offense and how he’s going to kind of utilize the skill set players here on this team is the weapon versatility. This is a very core component of an Arthur Smith offense and Art’s approach to the weapons, okay? And we saw this in Tennessee. we we’re seeing it now in Pittsburgh is he wants everyone everybody to be big. He wants everybody to be athletic and he wants everyone to be able to run block especially on early downs which gives his offense as much versatility as possible. All right. He wants the defense to not know what the Steelers are doing. They they want he wants the defense to go to the line and say, “Man, they got a lot of size, but they also have a lot of athleticism. They could run the football and bully us or they could throw the ball and they can uh out athlete us as well.” Well, and this is why Arthur Smith loves heavy formations. Everybody knows and everyone talks about how Arthur Smith loves his 12 and 13 personnel packages. That’s two and three tight ends. And you can bet your bottom dollar the Steelers will probably lead the NFL in two and three tight end sets this year, especially after the addition of John Smith. And what Art wants and what he’s trying to get out of an opposing defense is he’s trying to have size to win with physicality. wants to have more size than the defense on the field to be able to win in the trenches with the run game like we talked about, but also have enough athleticism to burn a defense through the air if they’re selling out for the run. And the goal that he is trying to accomplish is he wants to put as much size on the field as possible to force the defense to go into heavier base personnel instead of the nickel and dime personnel that is dominating the modern NFL. Okay. And the main benefits of that is number one, NFL defenses are not used to running heavier uh packages and it’s going to create a unique challenge for defenses when they play the Pittsburgh Steelers versus pretty much any other modern NFL offense on a week- toeek basis. And then the second thing is too, slower defensive personnel means more yak opportunity for their weapons. Guys like DK Metaf, John Smith, Calvin Austin the third, not to mention their running backs like Caleb Johnson. if they’re the defense is playing heavier and slower. If Caleb Johnson gets up to 22 mph, good luck catching up to them. Okay, plain and simply, that’s all I’m going to say on that. Uh, but now I want to talk a little bit here about what Pittsburgh plans for their weapons in 2025 because I think there’s six players, six weapons that the Steelers plan to use on a regular basis this year and they all have their role in this Arthur Smith scheme. We’ll start with the number one wide receiver and the alpha big dog in this group and that is DK Metaf. And he’s going to be playing the same role that AJ Brown played in this offense is the true X receiver. Okay. And the ex receiver in this offense if it when it’s working right is that you got elite size, elite speed, and you have really good instincts as a run after the catch threat. That’s what made AJ Brown one of the best receivers in football in 2020 with over 1,000 yards, 70 receptions, over 15 yards a catch, and 11 touchdowns. You bring up that Ryan Tanahill of highlight tape from 2020. A lot of it is just slants and, you know, in in routes to AJ Brown and he is taking it for massive gains. The Steelers are hoping that they’re able to establish that same run game and then rip those in cuts to DK Metaf uh where they’re going to force these smaller DBs to tackle him in open space. And good luck doing that when DK has a head of steam. Um and he’s one of the most underrated uh uh run after the catch receivers in the NFL. Everybody thinks because DK’s a big receiver that he’s like a 50/50 ball winner like DK Metaf. That’s actually not the case. He’s actually not really good in contested catch situations. where he’s special is he gets the ball in open space and he uses those long strides and that size to be able to just run away from people. Okay. So, uh there’s a concept in the Shanahan style offense called the drift concept which is a playaction concept. They ran it a lot in Tennessee back in 2020. It really is responsible for a lot of AJ Brown’s production where it’s just a simple play action off of split zone. Uh, and then you throw over the middle of the field there to that X receiver that lines up to the left. DK Metaf’s going to be running a lot of these drift routes. And if defenses continue to move up to defend the run, a Aaron Rogers is just going to rip that drift route right over the middle to DK. And if there’s a limited amount of defenders back in the secondary, good luck trying to bring him down. And that’s exactly what the Steelers want heading into this season. Another uh Yak threat in this offense is going to be Jonnu Smith, who they just added in the Jaylen Ramsay trade. He’s going to be playing kind of that quote unquote big slot wide receiver role, but he’s going to get a lot of manufactured touches, screens, underneath routes, a lot of different things, sometimes even jet sweeps to get him the ball out in space. For a 240lb guy, he really moves well. And people don’t understand, he plays in the slot a lot, all right? Like he’s technically a tight end, but he really is just a giant slot receiver. You know, the most snaps last year in Miami was in the slot. He did play quite a bit in line. even played a little bit out wide. I actually think in their 12 personnel packages or 12 13, whatever you guys want to call it, there’s going to be some motions to get Janu Smith to line up outside and then he’s going to get some screens out there where you’re going to be hoping or you’re going to be hoping that a DB is trying to tackle him out in space. And you know, when the Miami Dolphins played him that way, he was one of the most productive tight ends in all of football last year. He was second in touchdowns with eight. He was fourth in catches. He was fourth. He was fourth in missed tackles forced in the entire NFL and then he was fifth in yards among tight ends as well. So he is somebody that makes people miss. He’s somebody that’s one of the most dynamic screen and yak threats in the game. And he’s going to be their quote unquote manufactured touch guy. Whenever Aaron Rogers sees a weakness in a defense and sees uh a screen opportunity to get it to Janu where he can get a big gain, he’s going to get it to his big uh yak threat man. Like that’s something that Arthur Smith and Aaron Rogers probably want in this offense which is why they pursued him for as long as they did. They have a vision for John Smith guys and I can’t wait to see him play here in Pittsburgh. Then when it comes to Pat Fmouth, he’s your safety blanket. He’s your possession type tight end who’s savvy, who’s going to be able to find those soft spots in the zones. He’s going to be able to stretch the seam and he’s got super super reliable hands. He’s going to be great in the red zone for Aaron Rogers. All right. He’s going to be kind of like that Bob Tonion uh guy. had 10 touchdowns with Rogers one year, I think uh Pat Farmouth is going to catch a lot of touchdowns in the red zone for the Pittsburgh Steelers this year. And then on early downs, when you want to go to your 13 personnel looks, you can pretty much put a sixth offensive lineman in the game and Darnell Washington, who is a behemoth of a human and one of the best blocking tight ends in the National Football League. So, what I love about that tight end room, guys, is you got different skill sets, right? You got your rack, you got your Yak threat in John Smith. You got your receiving tight end and Pat Fmouth, and you got your blocking tight end in Darnell Washington. So, when they go to that 13 personnel look, uh, defenses are going to be forced to put more size on the field because if they go to nickel or dime, they just got more size than you and they can just bully you into oblivion in the run game. Um, but then you put more size on the field and you got DK Metaf on those drift concepts, right, that you got to deal with as well. So, I think that, you know, the 13 personnel package is going to be very heavily used on early downs for the Pittsburgh Steelers this year. And they’re going to be using these three tight ends quite a bit. But, uh, some of the other receivers on this team, the team also really believes in Calvin Austin the third, his role in this offense is going to be the dynamic receiving threat. Okay? And Calvin, even though he’s not much of a run blocker and therefore probably won’t be on the field too much on first downs this year, he can threaten the defense to all three levels of the field. He’s a Yak threat uh as we know because of his punt return ability, great vision, and elite speed. He’s also a really good route runner, so he can win in the intermediate level of the field. He’s got better hands than he gets credit for, even though his uh catch radius isn’t the biggest in the world. Uh and then he’s obviously got the long speed to threaten vertically as well. He tracks the ball well in the air. So, he’s somebody that when he’s on the field, when it is third and long, when it is third and medium, when the defense knows that the Steelers have to pass, the Steelers throw Calvin out there. He’s honestly really good as a SE receiver on the outside. Like having a guy like him is very valuable to the Steelers offense this year. And then you got Roman Wilson who’s got a lot of uh potential, but because they’re going to be throwing a lot of tight ends out on the field. Calvin’s going to be pretty much your wide receiver, too, this year. There’s not a whole lot of pressure on Roman Wilson to have to break out this year. But there’s also a lot of opportunity for him to break out as a nice little uh slot type of receiver for the Steelers this year. He’s got really good acceleration. He’s got excellent hands for his size. That was something that really stood out to me about him at Michigan was his ability to catch the ball with his hands outside of his frame. And he’s got a dog mentality as a blocker. Arthur Smith’s going to love that So, he’s going to have some opportunity uh to elevate himself and get more and more reps throughout the season uh depending on how he does in training camp and in the preseason this year. But, uh you know, even if he doesn’t work out, the Steelers do have some other options at their disposal as well. And I do think that we could see Roman get some wide receiver to work in 12 personnel if he earns it, right? if he does a good job in camp, all these different things. In 12 personnel, when you have two receivers on the field, he might get on the field before Calvin Austin the third because of the upside that he brings as a run blocker. So, in your 12 personnel looks, you got of course DK Metaf, you’re probably going to have Jonnu and Pat on the field for most of your 12 personnel looks. But then, you know, Calvin Austin the third, Roman Wilson, you know, depending on how Roman develops this year. It could be Roman, it could be Calvin. Either way, I think you’re in a pretty decent spot. And then when you go to your 11 personnel packages, and this is when, you know, it’s third and long, two-minute drill, uh, you know, end of game situations, the defense knows that Aaron Rogers has to pass the football. You got DK is a really good X. You got Calvin as somebody that can threaten to every level of the field as the Z. And then Roman Wilson, another guy that can threaten you to all three levels in the slot. And then Pat Fmouth is your possession type tight end. So if you need to throw up a 50/50 ball somewhere in tight coverage, Pat can bring down a first down reception for you. So, I really like this look here, guys. And that’s going to kind of conclude my uh breakdown of Arthur Smith’s offense this year. But if you guys can’t tell, I’m very excited and optimistic about the Steelers offense this year. And if everything kind of goes according to plan, right, if this off young and talented offensive line can meet their potential, we’ll see if Pat Meyer can get the most out of them. Uh all those different things. If Aaron Rogers isn’t completely washed, which I don’t think he is, if Caleb Johnson is good immediately, which I think he could be, like, this offense has a chance to be really, really unique and really good and hard to stop for opposing defenses. And if they pair that up with what I’m expecting to be a top five defense in the National Football League this year, we might be talking about one of the best teams in the entire league this year, just like the Tennessee Titans were in 2020. So, let me know what you guys think down there in the comments section. What is your confidence level in the Steelers offense this year? Get put it on a scale of 1 to 10 for me down there in the comments section. And that’ll be it for today’s show, guys. I know it was a bit of a doozy. Arthur Smith is rebuilding the 2020 Tennessee Titans offense in Pittsburgh — and it might be even better this time around. On today’s episode of Steelers Talk, Jack Sperry breaks down how Smith is recreating his zone-run-based scheme with a deep running back rotation, upgraded weapons like DK Metcalf in the A.J. Brown role, and Aaron Rodgers leading the charge at quarterback. 1. I've known for years that Tomlin's the problem. What's happened since Cowher's players retired?? NOTHING!!! Longest playoff loss streak in team history. Didn't the 2020 debacle show it??!!

  2. Are you guys all delusional???? Arthur Smith sucks and so did the 2020 Titans. If we don’t get a REAL #2 Wr to help DK. Who are we gonna throw the ball to??? Calvin Austin and Roman Wilson???? Those guys are trash. So it’s just like last year. 1 good receiver. What we gonna do. Make the playoffs and say “hey! Mike Tomlin got another winning season “ and then get bounced from playoff if first round. Tomlin ain’t a hair on Cowhers or Chuck’s bean bag. He only won the Super Bowl in 2008 because he inherited Cowhers bad ass team. 10-7 and bounced again unless Omar does something good. But he won’t. He can’t even help Watt get signed/ just a joke
