There’s a lot of really good players in this draft. A lot. The Washington Nationals selected Eli Willlet, a short stop from Fort Copton High School. Wow. Eli Willlet. Who saw that one coming? Oh my gosh. Oh, Angels are taking Kate Anderson. They have to be Eli Willlet. Whoa, whoa, whoa. overall pick history. Wow. Youngest pick in draft history. He’s 17 years high school in the fall. He was committed to Oklahoma. His days are never going to happen. The number is Eli. Well, it tells me two things. First of all, they’re getting a really good player. I mean, he’s a switch hitting pure shorts stop, elite defensive actions. I think he sees the game really well as a player. Um, I love his basketball skills, his his pitch recognition, how he gets on plane where way earlier. I mean, it’s a projection though on a 17-year-old kid from a physicality standpoint to ultimately, you know, how high how high his ceiling would be. So, that’s the one thing it tells me. The second thing it tells me the Nationals are looking at this draft from a totality standpoint is that, you know, how did they utilize this pick to set up the rest of their draft as relates to the bonus school money that they have to work with. So, I think that’s that’s the two stories that I come out of this selection with. Yeah. You talk about a 17-year-old. I remember being in the Seattle Mariner organization and we drafted a 17-year-old then Ken Griffy Jr. So, that was a great pick at 17. I think it’s a totally different player. We’ll see how this develops. Interesting pick. It’s shocking. Carlos Gaza, I want to go to you on this. Fans are initially going to go. Okay. Got to be under slot. It feels like it is. Feels like it has to be under slot. I think it fits perfectly. I mean, wow. I did not see Eli Willlet coming. There’s no real question mark or hole in his game that I see. It’s above average or solid tools across the board. I think it’s an above average hit. I think he’s above average defender at shortstop. He’s a plus runner. He’s going to get nitpicked a little bit on the power department, but I think he’s got enough bat speed. He has enough feel for the barrel that he’s going to get solid power. I mean, he was like a 20 player in like my rankings. I don’t know if he’s going to come in 1-1 for my player rankings for the first round. Okay, here’s what I’ll say about Brener. I really like Brener as a player. This has to be under slot. Whoa. I like Brener. That was a shocker. He is very good. I like him. Yeah, this is You want You want a surprising pick? This one is pretty surprising. I had some intel on this prior to the draft. I’m just surprised he’s at two. A lot of people didn’t have him as the top on their board, but the thing here that jumps out the most, it’s a really really good change. I think it’s the best college change up in the class. He threw this thing in zone a ton. He got a ton of whiff on it. He used it a lot rightanded in particular. Now that’s the oddity because there’s not a lot of guys. I did not see Tyler Brener. That is Lance. Shout out our KingS. All right, YouTube. All right, playback. What grade are you giving the Angels? Tyler Brenner number two overall. Some teams I talked to that push out to number two overall development particularly versus right-handed hitters I think will be the focus for the Angels, but it’s a really good change. It absolutely is. We have it a 70 great change up. One of the best in the class for us, but I just think this is a really well-rounded pitcher. He throws a fast ball above 95 miles per hour consistently. I do think he’s got a lot of impressive shape and spin on the slider. I think that could be a better pitch. It’s been good in the past. It wasn’t quite as good this spring. He has ultimate conviction. This change up. throw it double triple upies. I do like Brener. But I was shocked he went. So we might see we could see Kade or we could see Liam Doyle. We could see Ethan Holiday three. Who? Seth Hernandez could go three. Wow. That’s the one thing is that high school pitchers are scary. Tatton Gray hits the ball so hard. I really like him. Billy Carlson’s a very good ball player. Really, really good. Ethan Holiday, you said that the Rockies are up next because you think this is going to be Ethan Holiday. I think he’s a cornerstone organiz we get this pick in. I’m going to celebrate all these kids. This is the most ing top of a draft. We’ve we’ve had it. I mean, it is. I do think the draft is so humbling, Greg. You know, I I think we need to let this one breathe and play out over the next few years. You know, we think one thing on players, but players surprises. So, I understand that, but in terms of what we’ve expected coming into a draft. So, I agree with what Greg Amster is saying. I think that you can be surprised and it’s not detriment to who these players are. I think these players, everyone knows, are very good. They’re going to be first round picks, but I think you’re allowed to be surprised while also being like this this is crazy and being like they they’re still going to be good. You know, when you break down all these high school short stops, he’s not number one in any particular category, but he’s really wellrounded. He’s actually not that dissimilar, but number one in the draft. He keeps getting bigger, stronger, faster. You can see available if you want to go crazy. Maybe this is Gage Wood. I think they’ve been linked to Josh Hammond as well. pitcher wise, I don’t think it’s going to be anybody outside of those unless they were to reach on a Jack Bower who throws like 100 plus. Absolutely. Yeah. I mean, it is a fascinating thing. I need Witherspoon, please. Yeah, it is. I mean, again, the lefties kind of bounced a couple. It’s kind of funny like you look back at drafts short stops didn’t necessarily always go like this but the best players on teams are shorts stop center field now doesn’t mean it’ll be a short stop in the future necessarily but they can play second third you can move those guys they’re good athletes usually Mark Ventos was a short stop in high school what picker are the twins twins are 16 yeah 16 rule changes didn’t affect this draft. Look, you can no longer get some guys going to stand in left and right field and play second base for you. You got to be on the dirt. You got to have range. You got to have that athletic ability. And it has changed the draft. And I think the I’m kind of against drafting catchers typically, J Marggo, in the first round, they just have such a low hit rate. And like where you see these other positions, I’m not I mean I’m scored from Prada, but I’m scored for every catching prospect I’ve ever loved. Well, Raleigh wasn’t even a first round pick. Like, how is just crazy about Wells? I don’t know. He’s like a league average hitter right now. It’s not that I don’t think these guys are valuable or good. It’s just I don’t see like the It’s so hard for a catcher to be a star. Like we thought Adley was that guy and he’s been for two years with changes in philosophies. We’ll begin to see if there’s a pattern that’s developed over the next What does Seattle do with Ford? Maybe trade find a position. Twins are not going to move Joe Ryan, but if they do, they’re going to get a ton. One of the best pitchers in baseball. after good draft. Doing it well for one year does not pick it, you know, does not impact the organization. You have to do this for three, four, five years in a row to build a foundation where you can have a flow of talent that can consistently impact your big which seems to be what they’re doing. Well, if you look at their big league club right now, their international signings and their, you know, their five draft signings have been they’ve done a Ed has value for sure. To do it on a high clip is difficult because this thing is a lottery more than any other sport. Well, I was thinking lottery, especially basketball, where somehow the Mets get the first pick. But to me, there’s just more variables in this sport than ever. What are the Mets going to do? I expect a college hitter. Red. I just expect some sort of hitter. I think college. They only like really good for seed fast is what I’ve been told. So, that’s the question here, dude. They look at Kyson Witherspoon and go, we love this four seed fast enough for him to throw it over 40% of the time in the big leagues. My bet is no. I think they’re targeting the slider and the cutter here in particular here. This cutter is sick to me for a particular reason. You see the VO is on par with everything else. Two dollars from Will the Thrill was Ava a good pick for Miami. Very solid pick. I think at the absolute worst. Or you take even when you just take guys in general that are those positions pretty limited. Like you’re not going to be like, “Oh, a second baseman, they rarely become shorts stops.” Bizanna was an interesting pick for those reasons, but he was such a good hitter that people liked him. Take a third baseman, you’re like, “Usually that means not great footwork. Usually that means slower, not as athletic.” If you’re a third baseman now, what are you going to look like in a couple years? You don’t take relief pitchers obviously really um outside of like hoping that they can come up quickly. You hope everyone’s a starter and you take some guys you make them relievers. Center fielder is the same concept too. You don’t want to take someone who’s a left fielder right now. Like that’s tough. Hurts their floor hurts their ceiling. Hurts their floor a lot. I think a lot of times, especially with the MLB draft, you have to believe in development. You have to see things that your organization has done and try and find players that fit what you can develop. So like for the Mets, they want Sinker Cutter as your fast balls for pitchers. They go after college pitchers. They want guys that are kind of ready that they can make tweaks to Brandon Sprro, Jonathan Sanucci, Blade Tidwell. They like those kind of guys. The Dbacks, you look at very, very toolsy outfield athletic smaller guys a lot of time. Uh, unless they have obviously like guys like Jordan Lawler. Astros prediction I had them taking Wiiwa Aloy. Debbacks I have taking Brendan Summerhill who is still available. Obviously the draft has moved a little bit in the time that uh, you know, my mock has been made. Right now the best player available according to MLB pipeline is Ike Irish followed by Kase Cunningham. I totally could see Kase Cunningham going to the Diamondbacks. Slayer de Brunt is a smaller guy, too, I believe, right? Is he? Yeah, he’s 5’10. I could see those. Again, my favorite prospect in the entire draft right now is Quinton Young. I don’t think he comes off the board this early. I think he falls a little bit, but Quinton Young’s a guy who I’m like, that’s a freak. Thoughts on Devin Taylor? I’ll be honest, I get a little bit scared from big big 10 baseball players. Um, he’s obviously got crazy power, which you love to see, but I don’t really know where he plays in the field. He’s not that great of an athlete. That’s kind of what scares me about a guy like Devin Taylor. And maybe that’s what we’re missing is like, oh, who cares? He mashes. But the fact that he’s not that great of an athlete, doesn’t really play center field, that’s scary. Oh, I missed the Diamondbacks pick. Cunningham. I missed it. My bad, guys. Hand up. Missed it. Cunningham. So, Case Cunningham has been uh comped a lot to Jet Williams type player. Smaller guy. They’re also from the same state. good exilos, allaround really toolsy player. He’s just he’s he’s really good. He’s a good solid player. And again, it fits the Diamondback’s MO of getting these smaller good athletes with good hit tools. 5 foot10 left-handed bat, plays shorts stop, not a ton power just yet, but again, the exit fields are good. And it looks like he probably can stick at shortstop, maybe move to second base, which is really not that big of a deal. But again, MB pipeline slightly bigger and left-handed swinging version of Jet Williams. Jet Williams is a top 50 prospect in the game. You love to see that if you’re a Diamondbacks fan.     I hope Bremner turns out to be great but I am not happy with the organization.

  16. Eli Willits is fine, a great kid, but not a #1 overall talent, this is a C… with the #1 pick in the draft, you HAVE to nail an A. Disaster for Nationals fans.
