Late-Night Thriller | Royals Rally in Seattle and Hold On for Series Split

Evans, it is the third time that we are seeing him in the big leagues. He is making his eighth big league start coming off a rough outing in Tacoma where he allowed eight earned runs on nine hits on Saturday. But we know that he has shown a lot of poise, a lot of control up here in Seattle. Jonathan is in the right handed batter’s box, a swing and a miss and goes down quickly on three pitches that will bring up Bobby Wood junior swing and a miss and that cutter is cooking early from Logan Evans and now here’s Vinny Pascu in play over to Young, a very quick nine pitch inning and now the Royals hand the ball to Seth Lugo right man in the right place here tonight to get the split. This will be the ninth time this year that he has taken the ball after a Royals loss and his, er , a in the first eight is 2.28 and on the ground to the right side, Jonathan India Shuffles to his right, picks it up, throws to first in time for the out one away for Lugo in the bottom of the first. A rare walk for julio one out and one on for Cal Raley. Julio takes off, swung on and missed the throw. The tag by Witte and Julio is safe julio Rodriguez with his 1/100 career stolen base. Here’s randy Arose Arena. A Rosa arena punches to straight away center and hangs up for kyle Isbell one step back. He makes the catch a Rosa’s out and the inning is over, Michael garcia leads off Williamson. That’s a fair ball long throw ahead on a skip in plenty of time. And another fine play by Ben Williamson at third base. The pitch swinging a ground ball right to Cole Young at second, gobbles it up, throws the first. That’s it for Rave and the Royals in the second six in a row. Sit down designated hitter Jorge Polanco leading up line drive and it’s over. Patino Polanco will make the turn. This kicks off the short wall throw to second base and Polaco is safe. Draws ball four. Raley is aboard. The Mariners have the first two men swung on him is strike three elevated cutter can zone chased it. Second baseman Cole Young Baba sliced in the air down the third base line. Michael Garcia is underneath it. He makes the catch Young’s out and that ends the innings. Nick leads off chopping left side, Williamson over to first. You wouldn’t know it by the first eight batters that he gave up eight runs in just three innings in his last start in AAA. Here’s the 32 slung chopped right to second base. Young has it off a big hop. Little lob toss to first in time to get the out Logan Evans an excellent start to this 19 up nine down to start this game. JP Crawford top of the order leading things off on the ground and it finds its way through. JP Crawford is aboard two pitch and a swing and a miss at a breaking ball and there’s a strikeout by Seth Lugo. That’s his third strikeout of the night. So now Randy Arozarena is having a monster series another 32 and Salvi wants it and he’s got him with a gold glove play. Salvi throws a strike, a blind throw. He had to get up and just fire blindly down to Vinny. He got him. Here’s India and jonathan has a leadoff walk. So he’s on now for Bobby. He fouls it right back to the glove of Cal Raley. Second time that Logan Evans has struck out Bobby Wood Junior. So the Royals at 1st and 2nd 1 out and the batter is Michael Garcia 21 swing and a grounder through the hole on the left side of base hit India will be held at third base and now the bases are loaded for Salvador. Perez goes after the first pitch shadow right field, Raley and Young going out. It is Cole Young to make the catch and India stays anchored over at third. That’s a huge second out. So now it’s rave ground ball finds JP Crawford on to first base. Logan Evans gets out of a bases loaded jam. Here’s Polanco for the Mariners bottom of the fourth inning. No score deep fly ball out to right field. It continues to carry. Jorge Polanco gets the Mariners on the board. A go ahead home run in the fourth inning just over the wall in right field and the Mariners have the lead. It is one. Here’s Raley, the pitch to him. Drive to center field is Bell looking up that smashes the wall. Raley around first base. He’s steaming it to second. He’s going to double. So the Mariners get a leadoff home run but after that, they had a runner at second with nobody out and Lugo pitches around that one. Seattle, Freddie Fermin will make the turn and go to third and put two on two out for Bobby Wood Junior. You got to be careful right here in this situation through that bat swing and a fly ball straight away. Center field shallow canzone racing in on the run. He’s there reaches up and he makes the catch and that’s gonna retire. The side here is Julio with the bases empty. Rodriguez strikes out for a second time against Lugo that brings up Cal Raley breaking ball hit high in the air shallow right center field. John Rave drifts in he’s underneath it and makes the catch in the inning is over. So two quick outs here, Salvi, look at how far Cal Raley is set up outside. He missed the spot and there’s a line drive off the wall in left for Salvi. A Rosa Rena’s throw comes in a little late. That’s going to be it for Logan Evans who was brilliant tonight against the Royals. He’ll get a standing ovation on his way out. Logan Evans brilliant to the Royals with two base runners now for Nick Lofton swung on little looper short right field. Here comes canzone ranging and he’s right there to make the catch off the shoulder and that’s it for the Royals in the six that will bring up Luke Raley who’s walked and doubled in his two plate appearances, swung on slow roller right side. Long run. India goes to a dive stairs. It throws to first, it’s wide. It’s near the Mariners dugout and gets into the dugout. So Raley will take second base. Here’s canzone 90th pitch of the night and it is cut on and missed. So Lugo does not let the air bother him back to back walks. There are two on with one out in a one run game. Bobby, the batter in a big situation and a swing and a liner into left center for a base hit. Here comes his bell around third. He’ll score going first to third is India. Bobby drives in the tying run. It’s 11 here in the seventh inning and that is a Royals record 23 game road hitting streak. And so now they’re at the corners with one down for Vinnie Pasin. Then he swings and grounds it by the diving first baseman Raley for a base hit. India. Scores wit coming around third here the throw home save two runs score on a base hit to right by Vinny Pascu and the Royals lead it 3 to 1. And what a slide from Bobby Witt Junior. He comes streaking around third. The throw beat him to the plate. He slid in feet first picked up his left arm around Cal Riley’s tag attempt and Then slapped home plate with his right hand. It was swim move around home plate. That’s an incredible slide, incredible move because the throw did beat him. That’s one of the best slides I’ve ever seen. We go to the bottom of the seventh inning, 3 to 1. KC Williamson aboard to lead off the seventh inning immediately. Brings up the rookie coy Young that is a called third strike and good late movement. He had Young jumping backward and so Lugo will be coming out, did exactly what he was supposed to do. Kept his team in the game until they got him the lead. Good night for two down for the Mariners in the bottom of the eighth inning. Here’s Polaco pulls this down the line that kicks around that really kicks around and now they’re saying it’s an automatic double and the Mariners bring the potential tying run to the plate in left handed hitting luke Raley and Matt Quatre is going to his closer. That’s a bloop to right here comes Rave, he’s there and he’s got it and the inning is over to Canzone will lead things off. This is cracked out to center field, really driven the kiss a one run game and here comes the pitch hitter Miles Masone to bat for Ben Williamson up to right field dropping and today set and the winning run is at home plate and Cole Young swung on and missed strike three and that will bring up JP Crawford into left field base hit Mabone pushes into second base. Crawford is aboard the line keeps on moving here in the ninth inning and look who’s coming up. Here’s julio Rodriguez to the backstop and a free 90 ft fastball called strike three over the inside edge pitch from carlos Est-vez, all star Cal Robney just named American League player of the month mccabe comes to him now with two outs and two on on the ground. We right side, India it up glove to pass in time for the out and the Royals hang on to beat the Mariners.

Seth Lugo turned in another quality start and the Royals made a 3-run 7th inning count, holding on to the lead and earning a series split in Seattle.

  1. Logan Evans may have gotten bombed in his last triple A start……..but he is pitching against the Royals. That makes even the worst pitchers look like Cy Young. These boys just can't hit and even when they do luck out and get enough hitting it feels like a fluke.
