So it begins
By old friend.
I don’t necessarily hate it. Devanney is a young SS with no Major ABs but he’s batting .272 with 18 homers in AAA. Frazier was always going to be traded
So we traded Adam Frazier for a guy who can maybe become Adam Frazier?
Maybe he wanted to play meaningful baseball and fight for a WC spot…
Edit: I’ve seen some suggest that this is a precursor to trading IKF so we have someone capable of manning SS for the rest of this season with an OPS over .700 in AAA
Not with a bang but with a whimper
Hayes for Manny Machado and cash next
Next do Pham
(Although he was one of the few who hit well on the last road trip)
Devanney posted pretty great power numbers in AAA this year, although he’s also old for the level (28). Can play a bunch of positions. Seems like OK depth but not terribly exciting.
He technically debuted against us last week right?
This is a weird trade. r/KCRoyals seems confused about it too.
I mean at least he’s a bat with a pulse I guess. Figured we wouldn’t get much more than that for Frazier
I’ve gotten to like Frazier again, but a trade of a “won’t ever be again” for a “probably won’t be much” is at least a small win.
Henry Davis better send him a nice going away fruit basket.
The fact that Frazier played close enough to replacement level that Ben was able to trade him for a player rather than having to release him is ultimately the best possible outcome from a signing that never made any sense, no matter how surprisingly adequate he turned out to be.
This guy couldn’t be worse than Triolo, hopefully.
Edit to add: Interesting that they optioned Devanney to Indy. Triolo isn’t eligible to be recalled since he just went down on Friday. Unless there’s bigger moves incoming in the next day, have to assume Yorke is on hand for the weekend series, yeah? No way they open a series with 4 infielders on the active roster. I suppose it could be Cheng since he’s still on the 40-man but it shouldn’t be.
😂
Oh no! Not Adam Frazier.
Pirates did something? What do I do with my hands?
Guy blocked by Bobby Witt is nothing to be that upset about
Good or bad? Decanney is 28 and is hitting 282 in AAA, never been called up. Idk what to think of it.
Well he can sure as hit in the minors. I’m not hopeful he’s going to do the same thing in the majors
Obviously unexciting but this is fine. Frazier’s a 33 year old rental with a .650 ops, Devanney probably won’t be much but it’s worth a shot for someone with very little trade value
This is the thing when you’re a slave to the analytics: you can win every single trade, but you’re still a loser because the stakes you’ve set for yourself are so low. The Pirates should be bulging with infielders they have to sort through at the major league level, instead they’re bringing in a guy who might be interesting as a minor league free agent.
“Literally who” for “literally who cares” basically
Smells like another Diego Castillo/Alika Williams type. He probably won’t amount to much
Devanney is a decent haul in a 1-1 trade. Good power and flexibility. Not thrilling – but really not a bad return on an expiring contract of an older guy with contact and defence skills
I’m for sure cool with trading Frazier, no question, but for a 28 year old who has not debuted? Lol. At that point we should’ve gotten a 19 year old Dominican in low A ball
Nothing for nothing. Not much to say about it other than we’ll be seeint Triolo again.
Yinz are upset about losing Adam Frazier?!?! Get a grip
Seems like I’m in the minority here. This makes sense for both sides to me.
Royals: Get a pretty dependable left handed bat, which they don’t have on their bench, that can play multiple positions. They haven’t gotten any production from their outfield this year so he’ll likely play there. They give up a guy that is never going to see the field with Witt at his position, unless he changes positions, so had no leverage plus his AAA tenure.
Pirates: Get a medium floor SS prospect that hasn’t gotten a chance to play an inning of pro ball given his position is blocked by Witt. Having his best AAA season in 2025, and will very likely get a chance to play with IKF probably on the move. No guy in the minors other than Griffin that have the #s to support promotion over this guy, and Griffin hasn’t even gotten to AAA yet. Frazier was expiring money and a guy that wasn’t in the long term plans, and is easily replaceable.
As much as I appreciate the value that Frazier brought to the Pirates this year, the truth is he doesn’t make much sense for the team as the 2025 season has developed. If they had been anywhere near 500 or otherwise remotely, realistically within range of at least a wild card, then sure, a veteran utility guy like him would be good to have around, especially with his left handed bat.
But not on this team, and not this year. It was nice to see him again, being that he is a homegrown guy and all. And it would have been cool to see him reach 1,000 hits in a Pirates uniform. Etc and so forth Anyway, we wish him well.
As for the guy we got back, I don’t expect anything from him. Definitely agree with Cangy’s take in that I wonder what Yorke, Cook and Peguero ever said to Cherington’s sister to get them buried in this dog poop organization.
The fact GMBC got an actual human in return for Frazier is great. I was expecting bonus pool money at best. Devanney is the kind of player you roll the dice on in this kind of trade.
