Did you go a little far yesterday in your outrage at the Angels’ pick at #2 overall? Feeling a little better about the selection after a little research. This is your thread.
Now that you’ve had a while to think, tell us what’s changed in your assessment of the man the Angels selected. Or you can simply double down on your original take. The floor is yours.

I would like to raise my original belief he was going to be the next weaver to say he will now be a two decade angel lifer that challenges the accolades of Nolan ryan
I don’t hate the player at all just feel this is the type of player when we are selecting in the mid first round not when we have the number 2 pick
I will admit I overreacted. Am I in love with this pick? No. Do I think he’ll be a good player for us? Yes.
Good fastball, great changeup, healthy, but lacks control with breaking pitches. If the org focuses on perfecting his breaking pitches, he can be a *really* good starter for us.
The problem is that “we” fans all read the same reports from the same few sources, reports that are shared over and over. So, “we” feel we “know.” Teams have their own scouting and their own way of doing things. I think in this case, scouting department of the Angels have been watching Bremner for a long time (the scouting director was on the postgame show yesterday), so they have a lot of confidence in their assessment of his talents and how he projects.
Ryan Gallagher is a better gaucho pitcher imo. Just because you can try and justify this selection doesn’t mean anyone will know how it will turn out.
It is still objectively true that the Mariners and the A’s got similar (if not possibky better players) while having a higher point in the draft. Time will tell, but threads like these will appear like delusional bots for trying to justify our fromt offices’ decisions.
Anyone in this sub that tells you they know anything about baseball scouting is a liar. Everyone needs to just shut up and watch the derby tonight and stop pretending like we know anything at all
All I know is that you don’t pass on Kade or Holliday for a guy who would go later in the first or even in the second…
It’s important to remember that although Bremner performed well last year, his overall performance was negatively affected by the fact that his mom was suffering from and finally succumbing to breast cancer. It seems like the Angels believe that he will be able to focus better going forward, especially with respect to his slider. With that in mind, it’s not crazy (albeit not a slam dunk) to bet on this guy being the best pitcher in the draft. It’s certainly not a safe bet, however, and it will hurt if Kade Anderson turns out to be a star.
Of course, that doesn’t explain why the org passed on Ethan Holliday. It also doesn’t explain the pitching-heavy draft class when the organization is hurting for position player depth. It seems like they are stocking up on college bats in the later rounds, which might end up working out. Still, I feel like there is now a lot of pressure to beef up the org’s position player depth at the deadline as a result of the decisions made in the draft.
Hes an underslot at 6/7/8 and a steal at 18 and should be a heavy underslot at 2. He is a good pitcher and if we were close to 10th pick i would would have been ecstatic. The question lies are the Angels going to underslot him and if so by how much, cause thats why he was chosen there. I would have preferred a top end highschooler with the 2nd pick. He will be a solid starter in the majors.
I am currently side eyeing the 2nd round pick though cause I’m tired of fast throwing sinker slider guys who rely on soft contact to get outs
I think that, bluntly, a lot of people’s reactions have to do with people not having a great grasp on prospects or the draft. It’s arguably sort of MLB’s fault because they’d love the draft to be as much of a hype draw as the NFL draft and try to hype the guys near the top accordingly but it’s so rare that there’s actually a Bryce Harper or a Paul Skenes where guys in the top 5 are sure bet impact players like they would be in the NFL. The reality, especially in this draft, is that there isn’t all that much separating the guys near the top and who you pick comes down to a lot of preference, strategy, and whose strengths and weaknesses you think your development system can get the most out of. People just put too much value on picking second and assumed it means getting a franchise guy and not a guy who is probably pretty good
I really like the kid. I want him to win 6 Cy Youngs for us and win 512 games and have 5,000 strikeouts… But, I’m realistic.
I would be shocked if he had the career of Jarrod Washburn. Career 4 ERA no ASGs, Cy Young votes 1 year.
And that is the issue with this pick. This is the #2 overall pick. You shouldn’t be hoping to get Jarrod Washburn.
I hope to god he becomes a legit frontline starter just to shut people up
I’m happy for him because I was able to catch a start of his near my last days as a Gaucho. I hope I get to watch him as a Halo.
Surprised and still surprised. Idc anymore if it’s fuck Perry or let Perry cook. People will have their own evidence and stats to pick their side. We won’t know till it’s all said and done. I’m rooting for Bremner to succeed like everyone else here is.
It’s always Fuck Arte though. ✊🏻
I’ve watched him pitch at UCSB (I live nearby). Granted, it’s college, so what do I know? He looks really good. The Big West is mid major in everything BUT baseball. He’s the best in the conference.
My only concern is the Angels coaching staff. They’ve impressed accelerating position players to the majors, but pitchers are entirely different. I haven’t seen a lot that demonstrates they can do this. So, I guess we’ll see?
I am still a hater and will always be. Not his fault Perry is a moron and screwed up the best chance we had in a very long time at getting a blue chip draft pick. When he becomes a #5 at best I will be proven right. You can take that to the bank and deposit that
I don’t think he’s a bad pick at all, just thought we could’ve gone with a better choice
