BREAKING: Mason Taylor SIGNS His Rookie Contract WIth The New York Jets!

All right, guys. There’s the Breaking Jets news,
right? That like we’re in the middle of July and I I don’t feel like we’ve been in this late
into the summer and we’re just getting great news after great news after great news, right?
Garrett Wilson, S Gardner, and now Mason Taylor, right? He finally signs his rookie deal.
Uh I would say they met in the middle, right? Because there’s been there’s been this
big kind of standoff between not necessarily the players or anything like that. It’s
more so an agent thing because the Texans and the Cleveland Browns of course gave the fully
guaranteed contracts up at the top of the second round picks 33 and 34. Um there’s been this agent
push at 35 at 36. Well, hey, if 33 is is worth is if the 33rd pick is worth the a fully guaranteed
contract, why isn’t 34? And then 34 got it. Well, if 34 is worth it, why isn’t 35, you know? So,
it’s it’s just this continuing snowball effect. And uh there was a lot of people that, you know,
suggested that, hey, maybe if this continues to happen or if uh these rookie holdouts continue
into like into training camp, into preseason, the NFL would maybe have to step in. Uh because
if this continues to happen, what happens next year? You know what happens if whoever owns
a 33rd overall pick, their agent says, “Well, look at what the 33rd pick from last year got.
We want a fully guaranteed contract, too.” And if that happens for the entire second round, now
you’re talking about the third round, right? Well, if the last pick in the second round is worth a
fully guaranteed deal, why is it the first pick in the third round? It was just this going to
be this huge huge uh huge huge kind of debate uh over time. But outside of Alfred Colin,
so Alfred Collins signed and that kind of was the first domino to fall. We’ve seen some teams
like uh the Seattle Seahawks and Nick Emanry, he got a fully guaranteed deal, but Mason Taylor is
not. Mason Taylor’s deal is according to Cameron Wolf here, 91.3 is guaranteed. So in totality,
four-year deal, 10.46 million, uh 9.56 guaranteed. obviously a lot more than a typical second
round, a lot more in guarantee money than a typical second round pick. Um, but hey, it is
what it is. Mason Taylor’s here and and you know, one thing that uh I I felt like there was some
confusion about um including from my end when everything was first kind of kicking off, where
was the holdup? You know, was it a Mason Taylor problem? Was it a New York Jets Darren Muji
problem? We’ve seen Joe Douglas before in the past um have like these negotiation standoffs over
like small language within the contract. You know, Sam Darnold held out uh years and years ago. That
was a Mike McCagnon thing. Uh I mean, there there there’s been actually quite a few players that
have held out into training camp uh because of rookie contract language, but with this situation,
it just felt like it was like a league problem. not so much a Jets problem, not so much a Muji
problem, not so much a Mason Taylor problem. And also what was really really cool is he was
participating in, you know, rookie mini camp voluntary OTAAS and whatnot without the contract.
He he wasn’t doing the full Shamar Sewer, hey, I’m not I’m not suiting up. I’m not doing anything.
Um, and look, Mason Taylor, no disrespect at all to Tyler Conklin because that was a guy who I
liked. I thought Conklin was a good player for us. But if Mason Taylor could truly become our team’s
franchise tight end, man, we haven’t had one of those in a long, long time. Again, no disrespect
to Conklin. He was a good productive player for us, but at some point it was going to end, you
know, just because of his age and everything. Um, Mason Taylor was so young and he’s really good at
so many different things. Trying not to get too far ahead of myself here because, you know, tight
ends aren’t necessarily a guarantee. I I feel like tight end is a position that a lot of teams get
wrong. Uh like we see a lot of a lot of tight ends that just simply don’t work out. You know,
the Jets actually had one in Jason Marorrow years and years ago where it was like this toolsy guy
and you know, just never really translated over to the NFL level. But when I mean, man, when you take
a look at Mason Taylor’s game, what he was able to do for the LSU Tigers in the SEC at such a young
age as far as him being a security blanket, him being a chain mover, him having really good hands,
uh, catching with his hands and being able to pull into his body, not the other way around, which is
really, really important. A good route runner. Uh, you can line him up in the slot. You can line him
up out wide as a wide receiver if you really need him to. You can line him up obviously in line.
a good player, a decent blocker as well. I would maybe say the one area of concern that I had with
Mason Taylor before he became a Jet, so like not some sort of hindsight 2020 thing. I’m changing,
you know, how I feel about the guy because uh he’s a jet now. But from my perspective,
the one area was uh how I I felt like a lot a lot of times in college when he would get hit, he
would go down, which you know, it is what it is. um you’re in the SEC, you’re playing against great
defenses and great players. But my question really is how does that translate to the NFL? Will
he be able to shake guys, truck guys over, put moves on guys, elude players, or is he going
to be one of those guys that catches the ball and goes down? But I mean, we’re talking second
round here. You’re not going to get eight pluses at every single skill set across the board. So
anyway, let me know your thoughts down below in the comments section. Thanks so much for watching.
I appreciate it. And as always, go chance.

Mason Taylor has signed his new rookie contract with the New York Jets! Worth just over $10 million, just in time before rookies report to training camp. As always..Go Jets!

  1. Happy to see him signed. Love that Sauce and G5 are gonna be around for a while. Excited to see what Fields can do under AG. Let's go Jets!

  2. Honestly, even if we don't go anywhere this year (which I don't think we are, this isn't going to be an immediate turnaround). Looking at what's happening now vs last year is night and day. We locked up Wilson and Gardner, we avoided Mason Taylor from holding out; and compare that to last year. We had Aaron going to Egypt the Reddick holdout, leaks coming out left and right. That's what has me thinking Glenn's going to be different, ever since he and Mougey came, there was so much less dysfunction.

Granted we're not even a full year in and in fairness to the Saleh/Douglas regime, a lot of the dysfunction came towards the end, but still the fact the Jets front office made so many good decisions is a good sign.

  3. I didn’t think it was going to last long enough to be a distraction, but great news! I think this kid is going to be stellar. Great job DM and MT for getting it done.

  4. When it comes to Mason Taylor being a big physical TE I'm thinking he is probably either going down in college on first contact so that he can stay healthy seeing as you don't want to go into the draft with an injury history. But if that isn't the case I can see him bulking up and being more of that YAC guy next off-season as many players tend to do.

  5. This is what happens. Kirk Cousins then Watson set the bar for guaranteed contracts, and everyone expected that this would become the new norm. It was kind of fortunate that both of them didn't meet expectations, it kind of became the bad example to show owners you dont want to go there.

Glad he signed before camp, we don't need the distractions..

I live near the practice facility and the local cops must be nostalgic for the good old days when they used to bust Jets players for pot, guns, speeding ( my s.o almost got t boned by Rex near the facility), and in one case, doing something rude in public:)

Seriously, I love the lack of drama. Other than Jets fans who are still pining for Aaron Rodgers and predicting a 3 win season, there really isn't. They handled the extensions professionally and now this.

I also think I have figured out why they haven't extended Hall. If I am right, it is they believe that even with Barkley and Henry and Jacobs showing what RBs can do, that if they wait a year RBs will still not be as pricey as WRS ,so they could sign him in fa.

  6. Happy this FO focuses so far on getting things done and avoiding the circus stuff. This team DESPERATELY needs to move away from the sideshow atmosphere of the last…..forever lol.

  7. I knew this was going to happen before camp. It's not too bad for a rookie deal if I don't say.
Regardless, let's go to camp and put in the work, boys!
