MLB LIVE🔴 Philadelphia Phillies vs Los Angeles Angels – Jul 18, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

And welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. Inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the Los Angeles Angels taking on the Philadelphia Phillies. And we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. your Philadelphia Phillies. [Applause] So, almost ready to get underway and starting in this one, Zack Wheeler singing. He’s been outstanding and should be fun to watch. Well, when you have a guy that can limit the opponent to very little run production, you have a great chance to win a ball game when he takes them out. He’s just having an outstanding season so far. You hope he can maintain it because if he can, he’ll be in a nice conversation at the end of the year. Zack Neto, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Get out of here. The one right through there for a strike. Back to back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. The one-1 is fouled off. And that one lifted in the air center field. March pulls it down and he makes the catch. One down. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup with an excellent arm on the mound. Sing this won’t be easy. They’ll need to take advantage of the opportunities that they do have. You’re right about that, Boo. Odds are they won’t have many chances against this guy, but if they can rattle him out of the gates, they’ll have a shot. If not, look out. It might be a long day for this offense. And here’s the first baseman, Nolan Showell. Really strong hitting performance recently. Hits in each of the last six games. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. Next offering is fouled back. One out. Base is empty. That one lifted to left. Kepler puts it away and there’s two down. Batting third, the designated hitter, Mike Trout. And now batting Mike Trout. Great speed and great power. A great athlete quite simply. He’s like Mike Trout. You figure whatever you put in his hand, whether it’s a bat, whether it’s a golf club, whether it’s a basketball, he can do it and get it done. And a rare talent. So much fun to watch. That one misses in the dirt upstairs. He really committed to that fast up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. That one misses. Three and one. Two down. Nobody on. Swing and a miss. Wheeler gets the strike out and the Angels are gone in order. And now it’s the Phillies turn. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in Philadelphia. And today’s starter, you say Kikuchi. And Chris pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. Yeah, and you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Trey Turner leading things off and takes the strike. [Applause] Fun attempt. Popped up. Grabs it on the run. And there’s one down. And time now for the Phillies lineup. This team can really pile up the runs, Chris. They’re among the top teams in scoring this year. Yeah. And when you can get a lead and be out in front, it really changes what that opposing manager can do with the bullpen. And on top of that, it helps your own pitching staff. It gives them more margin for error. So instead of pitchers squeezing the ball, trying to throw darts and be perfect, they can relax, let the ball come out of their hands, and pitch effectively. So that offense and the ability to score runs also helps the pitching and the defense. Batting third, first baseman man at first. And now it’s Bryce Harper to the plate. Close but called a ball and that’s ball one. Schwarber at first one gone [Applause] and another ball. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and that one upstairs. [Music] Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. He was a little out front but did a good job keeping the hands back long enough to foul that pitch off and ball four to a board. Well, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Challenge the guy with the fast. Two on, one out. Alec Bow stands in for the Phillies. Ball one on a pitch inside. [Applause] Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming with a layoff that puts down. Nick Castanos in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And a pitch and he takes one right on the black. Three and one. late on that fast ball. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Got him swinging for the K. Chase the fast up the ladder for strike three. That high forcing fast ball has become such a great pitch for pitchers to finish hitters off. They’re trying to stay back with two strikes, make sure that they can handle something off speed, and just with good spin rate, good rotation through the zone, elevate it a little bit, get a lot of swings and misses. And that’s a really nice job right there. Here’s Nicholas Castillianos. And that one fouled off. Two on, two outs. [Applause] Strike two. And there’s a real chance they get out of this without allowing a run. [Music] And one and two. Two straight. [Applause] [Applause] bows it back with two strikes. First and second, two down. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s capable of going out there and doing damage with it. [Applause] swinging a miss and he got him and that will end the inning. Oh, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. All set for the start of the inning. So in down for the Angels, Taylor Ward, Wheeler back to work. Check swing and he went and it’s 0 and one. 0 and one. [Applause] Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Applause] This one popped up. Turner makes the grab. One down. [Applause] that fit centerfielder Joe Adele. Here’s Joe Adele. He set a new career high in home runs this year and Singi, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible now. First off, and it just misses. And another ball assigned to home plate duty is Ricky Holiday. Boo. And something I’ve heard players saying about Ricky’s strike zone is how he will call the high strike. That could be something that’s tough to deal with, especially if you’ve got a pitcher out there coming at you with high velocity. Fouled off left side. Singi, what kind of strike zone is most frustrating for hitters? I’d say off the plate, away, and down. And why? Those are the toughest locations to hit the baseball. As the game has moved along, we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires. I’ve been in clubouses where they have pictures of all four umpires, nicknames, hometowns, and as well hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the umpire a little bit. That’s great. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another sharp grounder that’s through for a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. And with that kind of power at the plate, they’ll gladly take the single to the opposite field. Mona, here is Mona. He’s been a great free agent side. Wheeler with a throw over and he’s back in there. Mona, 29 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. Hey, double in for a strike. Then one’s the count. [Applause] Come on. slashes this one and it could be trouble. Headed for the plate. He’ll score. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. One out, runner at second. Jorge Solair up at the plate [Applause] and that is out of play. [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Music] And ball one. One ball, two strikes to count. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Travis Darnell digs in. [Applause] There’s the strike. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. [Applause] That one missed. Two strike. [Applause] Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Monocata stands at second with two gone. [Applause] and a swing and a miss. Inning over and it could have been worse. So they pick up a run on two hits. No errors and a man left. Down now to the bottom of the second. It’s the Angels one and the Phillies nothing back here in Philadelphia. Bottom half of inning number two. So digging in now for Philadelphia. Bryson stop. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Hit hard to the ground and up the middle. Base hit. So right a board to start the inning. Everything came together for him. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. And now, let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. Here goes the runner pitching for a strike. Throw and the tying run is now in scoring position. Brother edges away at second. One in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate there. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Two and one. Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire and out there on the mound. Maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. fouls one off. Two and two. [Music] Ruer goes again in the dirt. Throw to third and he’s in there easily. And the tying run is now only 90 ft away. [Applause] and ball four to a board. So here we go again with the walks. It’s been a real struggle finding the zone for him in the past. Now even if they get out of this jam, these walks add pressure and stress to the entire team. So runners at the corners, nobody out. Here’s the veteran outfielder, Max Kepler. Almost too early in the stages of this game, but this bat has the potential of being a difference maker. You’ve got to stay calm in the box and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. 02 is the count. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Double play ball to second. Tosses to first, but the game is tied as the run comes in. [Applause] Brandon Marsh steps to the plate. Brandon, as a pitcher, you know, the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run, so you really have to execute on the mound. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Strike two. Wow. Good luck catching up to that one. No ball, two strike. And now one and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. [Applause] Ground ball right side and it goes just foul. [Applause] [Music] Man at second. Swings and misses. and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Chris, as we look back at the pitch sequence, he hadn’t seen that curve ball at all. How tough is it to adjust to something like that with a bunch of break when you haven’t had a look at it yet? Yeah, I mean, you’re dialed up for something firm. You never want to take a called third strike as a fast ball. So, you’re going to be a little anxious before you recognize the pitch. And right there, clearly didn’t see what was coming. Trey Turner with a chance now. The short stop takes a ball. Ruer at second. Two down. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Ball. That’s out. [Applause] That one ripped but foul. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. Kyle Schwarber would be next. Big bat with a potentially huge opportunity. So now two on and two outs. Now batting designated hitter Kyle first and second two outs. So here’s the Phillies DH. Kyle Schwarber one for one with a single so far. [Applause] Swinging a foul out of play. And now the one swing and a tapper that rolls foul. [Applause] Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. [Music] Got him swinging. He’s notched four strikeouts now. He’s in a tough spot. Had to make a great pitch. Did it. Got the strike out. Get inside of the jam. Clearly, he’s happy with those results. Back at Citizens Bank Park onto the third inning and the batter now, Luis Rangifo. Yeah, the first offering a fast ball for a strike, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. [Applause] BS another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Just overmatched on that fast right there and it wasn’t like he was set up for it by something off speed earlier in the at bat. Just came right after him with three straight and he had no answer for it. And next for the Angels, Zack Neto. And that’s in there at the knees. [Applause] Tied up here in the early going. And it’s swinging a miss. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Make it four strike outs in a row. Just cruising along. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Now the number two hitter Nolan Showell swanging a ball drilled center field makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. After two and a half, it remains a 1-1 ball game. Back here, Citizens Bank Park as we go to the last of the third. And now the first baseman, Bryce Harper. [Applause] Foul ball there. Well, these Phillies doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. They’ve worked three walks already, so that proves they’re not anxious up there. They’re sticking to their game plan, and it’s working. And a one-1. One ball, two strike. [Applause] Headed towards the corner. Ward running hard to get it. And there’s one away. Now batting third baseman Ale. Alec Bow stands in for the Phillies. Though Chris through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. [Applause] One down, base is empty. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpen. And that one hammered ball around first and hustling for second. And that’s a twobagger. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Put a very nice swing on that pitch right there. got one to drive and just kept it fair down that right field line and into the corner. And it’s almost impossible to track those down as an outfielder. Now it’s the right fielder Nick Castanos. His first at bat was a strikeout. That one misses and that’s ball one. [Applause] That’s down and in. Two ball. No strike. [Applause] Just missed. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter count. pumps in a strike and now three and one the count [Applause] and ball four to a board. Gosh, another walk in this one. Man, he is having some real issues with control. This is Bryson stop one for one with a single and a run scored so far. [Applause] A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. This guy absolutely flies. The defense wants to turn two, but they’ve got to get a ball they can do it with. Make sure you get the first out before you try to rush and get two and end up with nothing. Lined into right. Can’t get to it and it eats him up. Here comes Bow around third. He’ll score easily. Now the throw comes in. Runner holds it third. Well done. drives in the run. Nice line drive to Pullside. Met it out front, but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. [Applause] That’ll bring up JT Realm. Mutoo worked a walk in his first trip to the plate and there’s a foul ball. Two on, one out. And a foul ball. [Applause] Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. First and third, one down. [Applause] flares it into the outfield. Snags it for the second out. Now batting left fielder. Max Kepler. Now batting Max Kepler. [Applause] Downed ball here. Rolls. Foul. If he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Runners on first and third. Two away here in the last half of the third. [Applause] Up and in at count one and two. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. Swings and misses. Struck him out. But they pick up one run on the RBI single. And it’s now a two-1 ball game. You’re dialed into the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now the DH Mike Trout. He is quite an athlete. I mean, you look around the other sports, basketball, football, you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports, too. That one in there to Mike Troutley. Oh, he’s looking great so far. It helps with over 80% of your first pitches are strikes. He might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up. And a swing miss [Music] and down on strikes. So he picks up his six strike out of the ball game. Wow. Short work to send him back in to start the inning and no messing around either. All three pitches were in the strike zone. Attack mode all the way. And that’s pretty impressive given the pop he was dealing with at the plate. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Taylor Ward. That one misses the zone. One and0. The Halos trailing by a run. Top half of inning number four. There’s the strike. [Applause] on the ground to short and a couple of quick outs. Oh, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. And here is Joe Adele. Singled and scored his first time. [Applause] That one misses. Ball one right through there for a strike. He’s gotten into a really good rhythm. Set down seven in a row. He just wants to get the baseball and deliver it as quickly as possible. Keep the momentum going. Next one misses. Now two balls in a strike in there for a strike at the top of the zone. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and just on the edge and that’s one of them. Ah, that’s strike three and the third out. So we take a break. Nothing across here this half. We’re midway in the fourth. It’s the Phillies two and the Angels one. And we’re back. John Chami and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Brandon Marshon Marsh. Go Phillies. Short hop liner. Handled it short and very nicely done for the out. Now batty short stop. Trey Turner singing an impressive jump throw from the hole at short. Let’s see what Stackcast has to say. Now he’s just showing off out there. I mean, I don’t know if fans realize how much arm strength you need to make that throw. This guy’s got a rocket of an arm and that was on full display right there. Just an awesome job. So, the batting order turns over. Here’s Turner now and the first pitch misses for ball one. Booga. Never got to play at Citizens Bank Park in my career. Just the old Veteran Stadium in Philadelphia. But the crowds here are just as energetic now as they were at that old park. And trust me, as an outfielder visiting town, you’re going to hear it from the fans out there in the bleachers. Next offering popped in the air right field. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Now batting designated hitter. Kyle Schwarber comes up to hit here. One for two. Schwarber working on a massive campaign right now. Putting up some big home run numbers. And that’s in there for strike one. Well, we’ve seen him flex some impressive power this season and there’s still a lot of time to go. If he can keep up this pace he’s on, we could be in for something really special. That ends the inning. Down quickly go the Phillies as they’re unable to add to their 2-1 lead. Ready now for the fifth inning. Here comes Yan Mona. Yoan Mona Wheeler back to work right through there for a strike. You know, these Angels as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’ve been chasing pitches outside the zone all game and it’s led to some frustrating moments. They’ve been fooled quite a bit today. The one-1 is fouled off. And a breaking ball misses outside. Strike him out on the ground right side. He steps on the bag and the lead off hitter retired in the fifth. Now batting right fielder Jorge Solair. And next for LA, Jorge Solair went down on strikes his first time through. Solair measures 6’4 in 235 lbs and he was born in Cuba. Fast for a strike [Music] and a swing and a miss there. Another 02 count right here. Pitcher just in the driver’s seat. He can go anywhere he wants to go right here. One down. Base is empty. Not close with that one. And the count one and two. Hammers that one deep left field and forget it. his 11th of the year and this game is tied. It’s 2-2. Wow, what a clutch swing right there. And now anything can happen in this game. [Applause] He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the loft, and gets the home run. So, here’s Darnell with one out. Struck out, swinging his first time. And there’s a ball. [Applause] at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. One out. Base is empty and a run in. And we’re in the top of the fifth. Swing and a miss. and a count one and two. He’s been able to go inside as well as outside, effectively working both sides of the plate in this at bat. [Applause] In the air, left side, Kepler puts it away for the out. Good pitch. He just kind of had him out in front on that pitch away and wasn’t able to stay close. Now batting second base Luis Renifo gets a chance to hit here. Struck out swinging his first time. That pitch gets the inside corner and one. Next offering is fouled back. Two out space is empty. [Applause] Good job to fight that one off. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And that’s in the dirt. That pitch just misses the inside corner and it’s two and two. [Applause] Hit in the air. Center field. Marsh pulls that one down and that’ll do it. Just one hit in the inning, but it was a big one right here as it ties the ball game. Two- two game. Back after this on the show. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And here’s the first base, Bryce Harper. First baseman, Bryce Harper. [Applause] delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. You know, these Phils looking to string together better at bats when they have runners on, but it just hasn’t happened for him yet. They only have one hit with runners in scoring position. So, a lot of squandered opportunities. It’s tough because those are moments you just can’t get back. Line drive base hit man aboard on the leadoff single. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. Recognized the break on that pitch early and that allowed him to keep his front shoulder in. You know, it’s easy to bail on those front door breaking balls, but a great job right there of letting it travel, then unloading. A nice balance swing. Alec Bow stands in for the Phillies. That one misses. And that is ball one. [Applause] Two and0. [Applause] Harper runs that one down the line and it stays fair. And now runners at the corners, nobody out. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Turned on it nicely. Definitely a little out in front of the pitch, but he didn’t hook around it too much and was able to keep it fair down the line. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding role. Now, the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan. Usay Kikuchi is done and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now pitching for Jose Soraniano into the game on for his 20th appearance of the year. So runners at the corners, nobody out. Castanos will hit next and fouled off. [Music] Runners at the corners. Nobody out. Last half of inning number five [Applause] on the ground a second might be two net for one and a run scores on the double play. First and third nobody out. You’re thinking you’ve got it lined up for a pretty big inning right here. So that double play is pretty deflating. They get the run in but now they’re starting all over. Bryson stop stands in for the Phillies [Applause] and ball one [Applause] and that’s through there for a strike and the count one and one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Jake Eer, the rookie left-hander, appears to be getting going. Fulmer, the right-hander, loosening up as well. [Applause] The 1-1 is fouled off. Foul ball still a one and two count. [Applause] ball to and that just misses. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. stays alive. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Draws the walk there. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. Pretty good pitch on 32 right around the knees, but just no help from the Empire. Here’s JT Riom. He’s 0 for one. It’s interesting. He plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well. So when you’re looking at that position, you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed, but he does swing and a miss. Strike one. And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. Ruer takes off and that one fouled off. Stop leads off first with two down to the inning. Swing and a miss and he chases that one in the dirt. Darnell down to first with it. Got him. Inning over on the strikeout. They get a run on two hits, no errors and a man left. Five innings complete. It’s the Phillies three and the Angels two. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. Now it’s the shortstop. Zack Neto and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Fell at bat can be a little bit of a dance. Strike one here, but few more pitches. We’ll see how it turns out. [Applause] fouled off down the right side. [Applause] Goes down looking. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. Got three straight fast balls looking in the O2 count just to pour it back. Down the number two hitter Nolan Showell. That misses and it’s one and0. One down. Base is empty. That one’s in there and the count even one and one. The 1-1 is fouled off. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Tasks with one, two, and three to start this inning, but no trouble so far. I’m sure he’d love to strike out the side here. Make a little statement, but you got to be composed in this spot. Focus on getting this next guy. You got two good outs. Want to get the third one and avoid the middle of that lineup coming up with a base runner. Could become dangerous. Trout in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike right through there for a strike. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. And I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there in the mound. Two outs. And that skips into the strike and delivers outside. Twins and misses. It’s a strike out. And he strikes out the side for the third time today. Impeccable command in that one. Three batters, three strikeouts. That’s electric stuff out there on the mound. Bottom of the sixth inning. Here’s the left fielder, Max Kepler. Left fielder, Max Kepler. face center field and the leadoff man aboard now. And now for the Phillies. Brandon go for two in this one. And the first pitch misses for ball one. [Applause] Philly. Yeah, that’s too high. Two balls. No strike. Run. Here comes the pitch. Runner breaks for second and a foul ball. Makes the count two and one and there’s a rocket into the outfield. Throw comes in. Runner stopped. Second and third. Nobody out. Well, they call that an advantage count for a reason. you’re so much more likely to get something you can handle. And man, I’ll tell you, a line drive like that into the gap just feels so good. It’s feedback that you have everything on time and in control from start to finish with your swing. Here’s Trey Turner. Golden opportunity right here in the dirt. Wow, that’s a great job behind the dish there. Two in scoring position. Nobody out here in the bottom of the six. Nope. [Applause] Hard ground ball for base stop. One runs in. Runner stops at third and they’re at the corners with nobody out. Big RBI for him right there. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. So runners at the corners, nobody out. And now it’s going to be Kyle Schwarber fought off foul. [Applause] comes up empty. That’s strike two. Well, in this situation with the runner on first, less than two outs, some say, “Hey, get the ground ball, double play with two strikes.” Some people say, “Get the strike out.” I think you just execute your pitch. Make the best pitch you possibly can and let the ground ball could be two. Reo for one. They get the op, but the run scores and the twin killing. Here is Bryce Harper. The first baseman, Bryce Harper. [Applause] First offering misses badly for ball one. There’s the strike. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. [Applause] Two down on bows it off. Still one and two [Applause] and a ground ball to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. They put two on the board on three hits. No errors and no one left on. Seventh inning coming up, it’s the Phillies five and the Angels two. Back here in Philadelphia, top of inning number seven. Now the left fielder, Taylor Ward. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. That’s inside. And it’s a ball to strike. caught him looking for the K. Well, really nice job of finishing the hitter off right there. Glove side command. Fast ball firm to the outside corner. Tell you what, very difficult to do anything with that pitch even if you do swing. Adele in the box now. No balls in a strike. Usually when a pitcher’s had a dominant outing, he has filled up the strike zone and he’s gotten ahead in the count with first pitch strikes. Well, that’s exactly what this guy has done in this one. Over 70% first pitch strikes outside. Two strike. The Angels trailing by three here in the top half of inning number seven. And now it’s even up. Two strikes. One down. Base is empty. Foul ball. Another two upcoming. Let’s go, Billy. Another one. That’s five straight strikeouts. Well, right now he’s in cruise control, autopilot, just dominating these spinners. Doesn’t look like it’s a fun at bat. And all of a sudden, you become in awe of this guy on the mound. Somebody’s got to break this thing up. That’s five straight strikeouts. Got to put a ball in play. And now Yan Mona. Fast ball gets the corner at the knees. One’s the count. [Music] That catches the top part of the zone. That’s strike two. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. The next offering misses. Two and two. 22 the count. Two outs on the ground to the left and foul ball. Gets a piece and stays alive. popped up. Real Mutoo settles under this one and that is that. Angels go quietly there. They trail at 52. [Music] Now pitching for the new pitcher in the game for the Angels, Carson Fulmer. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right here where it is. So here’s the cleanup hitter, Alec B. That misses the zone and that’s ball one. [Applause] There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Come on, Bill. Right through there for a strike. Two balls, two strikes. A change up missing. And that’s ball three. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. And down on strikes he goes. One gone here. Up next for the Phillies, Nick Castanos stands in for the Phillies. Castanos. That misses the zone. And that’s ball one. Action in the Angels bullpen. Jake Eer, the lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. Next pitch is downstairs. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom of the seventh and a strike on the outside edge. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds, they’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. Next offering is fouled back. That one in the dirt and it’s a full count. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Battling here as he fouls it away. Come on. [Music] Up and in. Ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. Oh, you know this guy wants to swing it, but he’s showing some good patience in this one. It’s the second time he’s taken ball four. One down and digging in for Philadelphia. Bryson stop. First pitch misses and a foul ball. Castanos the runner at first with one gone of the inning. That one finds the zone. It’s a ball in two strikes just off the outside edge. Right back to the mound. Could be an easy two. Goes to second for one. What a double play that was. Inning over. So, no runs, no hits, no errors, and no one left. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Phillies five and the Angels two. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Seth Johnson. He’s making his fourth appearance of the season. Pitching for the Phillies. Number 51, Seth Johnson. Jorge Solair getting ready to hit. He’s already homerred in this game. Swang and a miss. Stirring in the Phillies bullpen. Jordan Romano, the closer of the staff, is throwing. Stum getting loose as well. And that’s a little bit high. And the count is one and one. Got to keep things airtight defensively right here. On your toes, ready to make a play. If you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead, it should be a W. [Applause] fights that one away. Still one and two. [Applause] just off the outside part of the plate. Good eye on that spot. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. And a swing and a miss. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an at bat like that one. Here comes Travis Darno. struggling on the road this season. Better results at home. Johnson goes 6’1, 26 years old, and they went out and made a trade for him last season. Next pitch misses, and it’s 2 and 0. 2 and 0. The Phils leading by three and we’re in the top of the eighth. Now we’re miss still just the second batter of the inning and on the mound he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They’ve got him working hard out there. fights it off. He’ll see another headed towards the corner. Dives and it gets by. Makes the turn and heads for second. Not stopping. He’s going for three. The relay throw in there safely. Love how he became a really tough out with two strikes right there. Punched that ball down the opposite field line. Just barely able to keep it fair, but once it dropped in, he was off and racing for the triple. Now that sets up a huge at bat in this ball game. Luis Rangifo the next to hit for the Angels. Ball one. No strikes. That clips the corner. One away with a runner at third. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Bone makes the grab for the second out. Now batting shorts stop Zack Netto. Zack Neto the next to hit for the Angels. Went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. That one back up the middle and it gets through. Darno in to score and it’s an RBI single and now just a two-run deficit. Comes through with the RBI. Just kept it simple. Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. So, two down and now the first baseman Nolan Showell and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. [Applause] [Applause] The tying run at the plate. Swing and a miss. And the count is 0 and two. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just going to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. Going to count one and two. Two straight [Applause] and misses inside. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Ru takes off in the air left field. squeezes it and that is that. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now 53. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Now pitching for Jake Eer gets the ball. Now this softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. And now it’s JT Real Muto for the Phillies. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. When you got a catcher like this guy with a big arm like that behind the plate, it really shuts down the running game. Two. He swings and fouls one off. Well, I’ll say this. As a former position player and base steeler, when you come into a game and you’ve got a guy like this behind the dish with a big arm, you really have to change your approach. Can’t try to steal cuz you’ll get thrown out. Maybe get a little bigger lead, be aggressive on the secondary, but this type of guy shuts the running game down. Swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. Pretty nasty cutter right there. And you’re seeing that pitch that location a lot more these days. And you can see why. Very difficult for hitters. I think the great Mariano Rivera can at least partially be credited for that thanks to the career he had with the cutter. It was just dominant. I tell you what, I felt like it was a moral victory whenever I could put that pitch in play. So, I can feel for the guy right there walking back to the dugout outside with a breaking ball. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Ground ball to the right side and he takes it himself for the out. Now batting center fielder Brandon Marsh. And now the center fielder Brandon Marsh one for three. And a curve is down and in. Counts one and0. Pitch misses. Ball two. Two balls. No strike. And it’s fouled away. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Swings through that one. Two two count on the ground. Lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. No throw. And he reaches safely. Trey Turner at the plate. Now snap throw to first and he dives back in safely. Runner on the move. That’s in for a strike. Safe at second with a stolen base. and strike two. Activity in the bullpen. Sam Bachmann getting ready to go. [Music] 0 and2 now inside just missed. Too close for me partner to take that O2 fast ball, but for whatever reasons he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. Foul ball still a one and two count. Two outs and one in scoring position. And that one ripped to left. And that is the third out of the inning. One left for Philadelphia and it remains 53. Now pitching comes out trying to close it out. Save opportunity for him right here. He’s their guy. Time to lock this one down and get out of here with the W. The designated hitter, Mike Trout, swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Just missed. One ball, one strike. [Applause] And that’s way high and a count two and one. [Music] [Applause] Fouled off. He was late. [Applause] Next offering is downstairs. [Applause] Oh, look at the stop. Takes it himself and he got him. Nicely done at first for the out. [Applause] Next to hit, Taylor Ward. 0 for three in this one. [Applause] Clips the corner. It’s 0 and one. [Applause] One down, base is empty. Not even close there. One ball, one strike. [Applause] Slice down the right side. Base is empty. One away here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] Got him swinging Angels with only one out left. Definitely made him chase a little bit out of his own right there. I think that’s a strike if he takes it. Pretty textbook pitching. Get ahead in the count. Get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn’t have much of a chance to do any damage. [Applause] Liddell in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. [Applause] And a big swing and a miss. Love to see it. Power versus power right there. And that’s outside and it’s two and one. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. [Applause] Two down. Nobody on. And there’s the ball. Pressure Mountain right here with the tying run in the on deck circle. He’s got to find the strike zone. [Applause] Swinging a foul straight back. [Applause] One strike away and a swing and a miss. And that is the ball game. I don’t care if you’re a top team or you’re a middle of the pack team. Every ball club wants to be dominant at home. Winning a game like this just helps to boost the confidence and makes you look forward to coming out again for the next one. The 53 final score in this one. The Phillies hang on to win it for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shi saying so long. Heat. [Music] Heat.
