A’s vs. Guardians Game Highlights (7/18/25) | MLB Highlights
And Slade Sakone gets the start for Cleveland. Slade’s been pitching very well. I think it started when his last start against the Athletic where he went seven innings. He only gave up six hits. He struck out three. 79 pitches in that ball game. So, he was all around the strike zone. Now, they’ve seen him one time. We’ll see if that young offense makes an adjustment to him here. He’s looking for that first win at home. Let’s see how he does tonight. Lawrence Butler, left-handed hitting right fielder, steps in. It’s that breaking ball to second. Wilson, one out. And it’s the youngster Jacob Wilson. The pitch to him and he banks it on the ground to third. Gowled up by Ramirez. Throws over. Two down and there are two away. And here’s Nick Herz who swings and drives this one to the gap and deep right center, but on the run to make the catch. Center fielder on Martinez as he got to the warning track and deep right center. I feel that JP Sears is going to have a great outing. 20th start of the season for the left hand. The first one of the second half here as Martinez digs in in the right side batters box. It’s 02 pitch. Martinez takes it. It’s a cold strike three on the inside corner and the A’s will go around the horn for out number one. It’s one away. Here’s David Fry. Now the one-two pitch and another strike out for Sears. This time Fry goes down swinging. They’re two away. And here’s Jos Ramirez. The three 0 outside. He walked him and it looked like he had no intention of throwing Jose Ramirez anything remotely close to a strike. That brings up Carlos Santana. Ramirez breaking for second. Langlers’s throw is perfect and Muny applies the tag. That will end the first inning. And Langelier showing off the cannon as he’s done so many times. It is scoreless going into the second inning. Going to be Rooker Soder Stro and Langelers swung on lifted high in the air to left but not that deep. Jones is under it grabbing it. That’s out number one. That’ll bring up Tyler Soderstrom. Bouncing ball to short. Rochio retires Soderstrom. Two outs here in this second inning. That’s five up, five down. And boy, Slate Sone has been on some kind of a roll. Sakone has a 272 earned run average over his last seven starts. That one high in the air on the infield. Carlos Santana says he wants it. He takes it. Six up. Six down for the Oakland A’s. We head to the bottom of the second in Cleveland. Still scoreless. So one away in the second and that will bring up the left fielder Nolan Jones. Two-2 swing and miss. Third strike out for JP Sears. He retires Jones and two are quickly down. Two down, no score. Jonathan Rodriguez in right field. Rodriguez hits that one pretty well to left center looking up. Gone. Rodriguez his first home run. First hit tonight. Cleveland is up one- nothing. Well, that’s where the long ball bites JP Spears again, but his teammates are excited. That’s number one for him. So, one- nothing Cleveland. Will Wilson the batter. 0 and two. And Wilson is late to the spot. Sears strikes out his fourth batter, but does give up the first run of the game. And Rodriguez’s first career home run. And it’s one- nothing Cleveland. Holy smokes. Slate Sakonei has retired eight A’s on 25 pitches. One- nothing Cleveland. On the ground is second again. It’s Wilson. Nine up, nine out for Slain Sakone. We head to the bottom of the third in Cleveland. One nothing guards here. Brian Rochio switching shorts stop batting right-handed. Rokio lines it to the gap in left center. Clark heading over. Won’t get there. Cuts it off though. His throw in is wide. Roio trying for second. The tag. He’s safe. Oh man, he stopped. He’s lucky he’s safe. But Clark’s throw was offline to the cut off man. And Rochio still was able to elude the tag and gets credit with his ninth double. Top of the order. Anhel Martinez second at bat struck out looking. Martinez to left center. That one will get down. Rokio had a hold up, but they’re going to send him. Throw comes into second base. He’ll score easily. Two nothing Cleveland. Yeah, nice swing. Took him to left center field. Back-to- back hits out in that area. So, they’ll get another single with one out and make it a two nothing lead. That’ll bring up David Fry. Struck out his first time up. He gets that one hard to left. Soderstrom back looking up. See youa. Two-run blast. David Fry. Four nothing Cleveland. They have now homered in eight consecutive games. And that’s their longest of the year. And and that’s their second one of the night. This one a two-run home run. And there is still only one out as Cleveland needs to get a triple this inning. And as the team will have hit for the cycle here in the third. Here’s Jose Ramirez walked his first time up. Jose trying the gap to left center field. Silverstorm back again. This one is off the wall. Jose in the second with an easy stand up double. Thinking about third. There he goes. Ramirez slides in safe. How about Jose hustling the entire way. A great read for Ramirez. And he’s on third. And Cleveland has indeed hit for the cycle here in the third. And now Carlos Santana with the infield in. He’ll bat rightanded. Los hits that one high in the air to left. Sodrom will catch this one. Tag no matter what. Tagging and Sodstrom fought. It was the third out. Wow. You want to talk about a mistakes that shows you right there if you play guys out of position what can happen. Two down in the inning. Nick Curts will step in. He flyed to deep center his first time up. Curve ball hit high in the air to center. Martinez right there. Another great inning. Three up, three down go the A’s. We head to the bottom of the fourth. Cleveland still up 5 nothing. Runners at first and second. Still only one out. And Brian Rokio will back. doubled his first time up back in the third trying that left center gap again. Back goes Clark. He’ll have to play it off the wall. One run is in. Here comes another. Rochio in second. Two RBI double for the Cleveland shortstop. 7 nothing now. Good shorter swing serving him well. And that time he cranks one off the wall for a double. His ninth double but now with 14 runs batted in. Pair of doubles for Rokio tonight. Zakone faced Brent Rooker. Zakone’s been perfect through four. Rooker flyed out to left fielder Jones in the second inning. 0 for one. 02 pitch lifted high and deep to left field. Brent Rooker has homer to left. It’s almost as if you spoke it into existence. Home run number 100 of his career happens in Cleveland, Ohio. And he gets the A’s on the board in the fifth. It’s seven to one now, Guardians. So there are two outs. That’ll bring up Nick Curts, one of the best prospects in baseball and now simply the best rookie in baseball. One pitch bounce the other way underneath Ramirez’s glove and Clark will come in to score. Herz will land at first base and the inning continues. It’s now 8 to2. One down. That’ll bring up Shane Langalers, the catcher. One-two pitch. Langers drives it to left field. Nolan Jones will play it off the top of the wall. Here comes the throw into second. It’s a great one, but it’s not corraled by Wilson. And Langelers dives in safely with a one-out double. Oh my. That’s That’s a homer. That’s a homer. That’s above the yellow line. That’s a homer. Book it. This is a replay review and I think a lines one here. A smart one. At the end of the day, Nolan Jones, you got to tip your cap. He sold it well. Oh, sure. And look, this ball doesn’t necessarily rock it one way or the other. I mean, you can see it hit just below the hands of the fan, right off that metal railing. After review, the call on the field is overturned. It is a home run. All right, a boy. 13th of the year. 8-3 now Cleveland. Slate Sakone looking for the complete game win for Cleveland here tonight. The last time that Cleveland had a 9ining complete game win was July 12th of 2022. Shane Bieber did it against the White Sox. Nice. There’s Kurts to lead it off. 3-2. Kurts sends it in the air to deep center field on Hell Martinez on his horse. He’s still going at the track at the wall. He can’t make the play and collides with the wall. Kurts loses his helmet. He pulls into third base with a leadoff standup triple here in the ninth. That is 94 inner third that he’s able to stay inside of. And you see this ball just continue to slightly tail. It tails far enough away from Martinez. Great effort going into that wall he can’t make a play. Right now, Nick Kurt sits on third base with that lead off triple. And here’s Rooker. Now Rooker gets it in the air to right. Here comes Rodriguez. And it drops down and past him all the way to the wall. Rooker’s going to take a turn around second. He’s going to get to third base. And now the A’s have traded places. It’s 8 to four now. Carl Willis will come and have a talk with Sakone as Emanuel Class gets up and will start getting loose in the Cleveland bullpen. Coney now at 97 pitches, 67 for strikes. Here’s Zodstrom. Good breaking ball on the outside. Corner strike three call. Second strike out tonight for Sakone. One out here in the ninth. One away. And here’s Shay Lang Leers. The 01 pitch laid. Sakone delivers that one. Fly ball to right field on the move. Rodriguez. Long way to go and he’s not going to get there. Falls in for a base hit. Now he slips and digging for two Langers. The throw to second not in time. It’s now 8 to five Guardians. And that’ll be all for Slade Sakone. What a job he did tonight. And he will get a massive standing ovation coming to that third base dugout. [Applause] Well, Emanuel Claus now has a chance for a save. It’s an 8 to5 ball game. A’s have a runner at second. One down in the ninth. Miguel Anduhar to face Claw. Two and one. That’s lift to the left and that is going to drop down fair and off the wall. Langelers comes in to score. On Duhar trades places. He has an RBI double. And now it’s 8 to6 Dallas Braden. The A’s are making some noise in the ninth. Here is Maxy representing the tying run. It’s 86 Guardians. Swinging a miss. How about an elevated climb the ladder and Muny goes down on strikes. Two outs and now Ursella get him swinging ball game and Claw comes in to get the save. A brilliant effort by Slade Sakone. an impressive offensive output.

Guardians getting near to .500
Announcers being stupid. As if playing any position in the field has anything to do with knowing how many outs there are in the inning? Just a stupid comment!
