MLB LIVE🔴 Philadelphia Phillies vs Los Angeles Angels – Jul 19, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

just a little bit away from first pitch and today’s starter Christopher Sanchez. Yeah, and as Whip tells you, he’s been pretty effective this year on the mound. I mean, opposing hitters having a hard time getting on base and then being able to really distract him and do damage in terms of getting around the base path. So, taking the mound, this is a guy you want out there if you’re his teammate. And I expect him to be good in this one. All right, ready to go here. So, in now for the Angels, Zack Netto. And that’s through their first strike. And we’re underway. That one in there across the letters 02 count both pitches on the inside part of the plate. Hitter is thinking I want to get beat here. This is a good time for something off speed away and down on strikes now. One away. Nolan Shadowwell the next to hit for the Angels. swings and misses at the pitch off the plate. Oh, one inside. Fall one. One out. Base is empty. The one-1 is fouled off. the wind of the pitch. Strike three and that’s two in a row. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Trout. There’s the strike. 01’s the count. That one catches the zone and it’s 0 and two. That’s hard hit on the line. That’s a fair ball and it’s getting into the corner now. He’ll turn for second and that’s a double. Good two- strike hitting right there, Boo. A bit of a lost start for some. So that was nicely done to beat the odds. Nice line drive to the pull side. Met it out front, but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. So runner at second, two down. Now the left fielder Taylor Ward right through there for a strike. Well, you always want to come out in the first inning, try to put something up on the board. It’s a big two out double right there. See if the cleanup man can drive him in and put a tally up there on the board. Two outs and one in scoring position. That’s down and in. Well, they’re looking to get on the board first here after that clutch two out double made this inning interesting. That misses and now three and one. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter count. Man on second. Two down. Popped up Harper. And that’ll do it. So a two out double but they don’t score. Phillies coming up to hit. No score back at Citizens Bank Park. So, here’s the lefty Jake Eater. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Kyle Schwarber, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Late that time and it’s strike two. Good pitch down around the knees. You want to be there all game in a park like this. A popup sometimes will carry out that one. Not close and it’s two and two way inside. Straighten him up a little bit. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. 3-2 swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Just a mid90s challenge fast ball right there. Not much to it. And I’m sure he’d love another swing at it because it was in a very hitable location. And those are the swings where you can sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say, “How’d I miss that?” But you know what happens. Here’s Trey Turner. A change up missing and it’s one and0. Hey partner, back in 2023, Turner homered off the same pitcher twice in the same inning. Only a few players have ever done it and his were against his former team, the Washington Nationals. that catches the top part of the zone and it’s a ball and a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Makes the catch for the second out. And time now for the Phillies lineup. This team can really pile up the runs, Chris. They’re among the top teams in scoring this year. Yeah, and when you can get a lead and be out in front, it really changes what that opposing manager can do with the bullpen. And on top of that, it helps your own pitching staff. It gives them more margin for error. So instead of pitchers squeezing the ball, trying to throw darts and be perfect, they can relax, let the ball come out of their hands, and pitch effectively. So that offense and the ability to score runs also helps the pitching and the defense. Bryce Harper in the box now. No balls in a strike. swinging a foul straight back. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. Three up, three down for Philadelphia. Scoreless after one. Back here in Philadelphia. New inning getting started. So in now for the Angels. Joe Adell. Sanchez back to work. Sanchez measures 6 feet 6 in. He features a sinker, a change up, a slider, and occasionally uses a cutter. Slice to right and foul ball. Got that K is his third of the game. Here is Yoan Monata. That one outside. Ball one. Second inning here. No score. And that is downstairs. And that’s ball two. Dave Lawrence assigned to work home plate in this one. Good umpire Boo. Very fair, very consistent. Now, I did hear some feedback that he opens up the outside corner a little bit on left-handed hitters, which, you know, for me, I’d be kind of salty. So, maybe something to keep an eye on and see if that factors into this one at all. Two balls, one strike. One down, base is empty. Just missed. How much were you aware of the umpire scouting report or even who was going to be umpiring? Not a whole lot. I mean, there were a couple of umpires that weren’t real good, but outside of that, you just kind of went into the game, especially back when I was playing in the air, right field, and it stays fair around first, heading for two. And that’s a twobagger. As the game has moved along, we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires. I’ve been in clubous where they have pictures of all four guys, nicknames, hometowns, and as well hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the umpire a little bit. That’s great. And now it’s going to be Logan O’H. There’s a strike. Hitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. And that is out of play. Oh, that’s just out. Moa over at second. One down. That’s ball two. That one misses and it’s three and two. Now a screamer into the outfield. That’s out number two. So, here’s Wade now. Starting to go after it now. will look down to third and that’s going to be ruled a swing out towards right center field. Castanos gets under it and he makes the catch and that is that. Angels leave one. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Back here, Citizens Bank Park. Bottom half of inning number two. Nick Castanos at the plate now. There’s the strike. [Music] Highfly ball out to left field. Ward under it. And out number one on the grab. JT real Mutoil steps in. He’s someone that really beats up on right-handed pitching. The lefties, however, give him a little bit more trouble. That’s in for a strike. First pitch strike right there for him. He’s going to have to do that consistently if he’s going to give any length to his skipper. going two now. One ball, two strike. That’s a really good job of laying off the O2 high fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he’s behind in the count. Started after it. appeal to first and he held back according to Ricky Holiday. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes and he’s registered three Ks in this one. Off to a strong start. Singy as he’s punched out three of the first five he’s faced. Well, he’s definitely minimizing contact. He can get the swing and miss when he needs it, but he’ll also keep the defense fresh behind him, allowing some balls in play as well. This is Bryson stop. And that one is downstairs. And that’s ball one. Two out. Space is empty. Sliced hard, but fouled down the left side. That misses the zone. Now two balls in a strike. Swings through it and that’s a strikeout. down quickly. Go to Phillies. We’ll move to the third with no score. Top half of the third inning. So in now for the Angels. Luis Rangifo. That one back up the middle and it gets through. man aboard on the leadoff single. Well, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. So, up next, Zack Neto caught looking his first time up. Off the mark there. And that’s ball one. Rudder at first with no outs here. And that one fouled off. Missed with a change up and it’s two and one. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good and then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Still two and two after the foul ball. Next offering is outside. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Hit weakly on the ground. Stop. Off balance feed. There’s one and that’s all they’ll get. But they weren’t overzealous there. Just take the sure out. Keep the run out of scoring position. And next for LA, Nolan Showell. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Fouled off. He was late. Swinging a foul out of play. Look out. And it hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Now Trout gets a chance to hit. Doubled his first time off. He is quite an athlete. I mean, you look around the other sports, basketball, football, you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports, too. First pitch doesn’t find a zone. Way to lay off that pitch down. He’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mound. And one and two. He’s gone off speed. He needs to elevate here with two strikes out of the zone. in the dirt but kept close. Nice job behind the plate there. Runners at first and second with one gone. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. This ball’s chopped on the ground. Sosa to second and that’s two. Poetry in motion there as the second base turns the double play. Nice throw to first and that’s the way to end the inning. set for the bottom of the third. And here is number four. Desated hitter. Number four. Swing and a miss as he was laid. One’s the count. Pitch misses there. One and two. The cow. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. And that one way outside and the count is even. Two and two. Good job to fight that one off. fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. He froze him with the change up right there and I think he was so geared up for fast ball once he recognized that it was off speed he just wasn’t able to make an adjustment. So a really good strike out and pitcher just won the battle. Brandon March now at the plate as he swings through strike one. Still tied at zero. Last of the third. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. Could be extra bases around first. Digging for two to second. Pulls him off the bag. I don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. And here is Sosa to the plate. That one ran inside. Almost got him. [Music] One out and a runner at second. Oh, that pitch is out now. That’s smacked to right center and it’s into the gap coming home. He will score and they take the lead and it’s an RBI single. One- nothing. Showed some really nice patience in it. Worked himself into a good count. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer, and he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. And Kyle Schwarber will come up. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. Just missed man at first. One away in the dirt. I got a ball. One strike. runner on the move. Squirts away a little bit. Blocked by the catcher and he steals second base without a throw up the middle. Oh, look at the stop to his knee. The throw and that’s a great play for the out. That is short stop Trey Turner. That was an impressive diving stop. Singy. Let’s dive into the numbers. Statcast the symbol. Yeah, a really good effort just to get his glove to the ball. He found a way to do it and just produce a strong throw as well. So that right there is a great play all the way around. Just really smooth. Here’s Turner now. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. Fought off foul. Two outs. flares it into the outfield. He’s got it. And that is out number three. Start of the fourth and now it’s the Angels cleanup batter Taylor Ward. Looks like the weather could actually play a factor in this one. It’s coming down pretty good. Yeah, it is. And it’s not too bad yet, but the field’s not going to be able to hold up if the rain gets any worse than this. So, keep an eye on the pitcher mound as well. And the rest of the infield start to puddle up a little bit. Swinging a miss at a slider. One ball, two straight. And that one almost hit him. Two strikes. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Throw to first. Got him. One away on the strikeout. Here’s Joe Adele. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. That’s a strike 0 and one. This one chopped on the ground but foul. The Phillies leading by a run. Top half of inning number four. That one just misses. Tough to take a two strike change up that just missed. I think it froze him on the ground right side. Stopped jump throw and they get the out. Third base Yan Mona. Here is Monata. Doubled his first time. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. And a base hit. And that extends the inning. wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. So, two down. Logan Ohappy the next to hit for the Angels. Trey Turner gloves it, slings to first and he has thrown four shut out innings. Angels strand one. They’re down one- nothing. back here in Philadelphia. And now it’s Bryce Harper to the plate. It really feels like we might be running out of time before a rain delay is called. This rain is not letting up. Yeah, and if we do get a delay, the unfortunate thing is the clock’s going to start ticking on these pitchers and they won’t be able to keep their arms warm forever if it’s a long break and going to have to exit this game a little early. Blackberry. This one in the air. Shane in position. Makes the grab. One away. Got the pitch that he wanted. Just a little bit quick. front shoulder open, backside collapsed a little bit, and the launch angle not where he needed it to be. Here’s Nicholas Castanos. Fly to left his first time. He swings and fouls one off. Base is empty, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth and there’s a foul ball. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Gets off a throw and they get the out. Good recovery. Wasn’t easy following the misplay. Talk about being able to dial up the velocity. That first baseman over there might need a little pad inside that first baseman’s mid. Two outs. Base is empty. And up to the plate is JT Riomuto. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Ball one, no strikes. Ball two. Well, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. And that one fouled off. Ground ball left side and that’s just foul. Sea strikes him out for the second time today. Phillies go down quietly in the inning, but they still lead it one- nothing. And we’re back. Ready now for the fifth inning. Here’s Lamont Wade Jr. Sanchez back to work. Line to left. Makes the grab. One away. Luis Rango the next to hit for the Angels. One for one with a single so far. That’s outside and that is ball one. [Music] And there’s the ball. Two balls. No strikes. Out to center. Schwarmer settles under it and there’s two down. And that drops in for a strike. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And that one pulled foul. Looking sharp just a strike away from five shut out innings. caught him looking for the K and the Angels are gone in order. They trail here one- nothing. Back at Citizens Bank Park, we head to the bottom of the fifth. So digging in now for Philadelphia. Bryson stop misses outside and it’s one and0 and another ball. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 20. He’s put himself in a really good spot. Good hitters count the 200 and a foul ball. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher and makes the grab and there’s one down. number four. So, here’s the Phillies DH. His first at bat was a strikeout. Phillies. Love coming to Citizens Bank Park. Best ice cream in all of the league at the press level. It’s only been around since 2004, but plenty of awesome history here already. It’s the only stadium with multiple postseason no hitters. Remember Roy Hall did it back in 2010 and the Houston Astros threw a combined no in game four of the 2022 World Series. Swing and a miss and he got him and he’s up to seven strikeouts. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Brandon Marsh steps to the plate. A double and a run scored his first time up. Go. And that’s him for a strike. Oh, he’s got to be pretty proud of this outing so far. Sometimes guys cower coming into a ballpark like this, but he has attacked hitters. Pitching on the road like this is very impressive. This has been a treat to watch. Outside low and one and one line drive and it goes just foul. Foul ball still a one and two count and that one is inside. Swing and a broken bat roller towards third. Monata toss to first and it’s a one, two, three inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. Five innings complete. It’s the Phillies one and the Angels nothing. Back here in Philadelphia, start of the six, John Shami with Chris Singleton and leading off Nolan Shanowell. [Music] just missed. Next pitch inside and a cow. Two and one. Battling here as he fouls it away. And now it’s filled up. Expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball, something in the zone because he does not want to allow the lead off wall. He fouls it off. Will do it again. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. Fouled off again and it remains three and two and it’s fouled off. He’ll do it again. Quite the match up we’re seeing here. Six foul balls in this atbat alone. Really making them work out there. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. swing and a pop off in foul ground. He’s under it. Makes the catch and there’s one gone. [Music] And now batting Mike Trout one for two. If you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. just missed one. Right through there for a strike. [Music] Nope. outside [Music] and a foul ball. Great swing and solid contact. Just a little too quick. He’s got to stay back a little longer. Stop him out looking with the off speed stuff. So now it’s the fourhole hitter Taylor Ward. and that one is inside ball one and another ball. Two count. You really don’t want to give in here. You got to work the edges. really execute a pitch. Hopefully you can get back into this count. A change up missing and that’s ball three. Joe Adell waiting on deck if they extend the inning. Plenty of pop in his bat so he could give them the lead with one swing if he gets the chance. That’s ball four. Tried another sinker but couldn’t find his own. You know, I think he’s okay with that outcome. It It wasn’t an intentional walk, but he wasn’t exactly trying to attack the zone either. Two outs, runner at first. Joe Adele the next to hit for the Angels. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. With the tying run at first base, he’s looking for something he can get a lot of barrel on. Drive it into a gap and score that run from first base. Ball one there. That one fouled off. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Swing and a miss. And that is that. So, another good inning for him on the mound. Six shutout innings now. It’s the Phillies one and the Angels nothing. Bottom of the six. And digging in for Philadelphia, Edmundo Sosa. That one down the line and foul ball. Swanging a highf fly ball hit the air left center field. This one’s got a chance and it one hops the wall and that’s a leadoff double. Everything came together for him. fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. So the batting order turns over. Kyle Schwarber comes up to hit here. That one finds the zone. Strike one. runner in scoring position. Nobody out here in the bottom of the sixth. A little out front there as he swings through it. Let’s see if he’s willing to use the whole field right here. Definitely pounding him away. [Music] And that one hammered. That’s back. Out of here. His 31st home run of the season. And they add to the lead. It’s 3 nothing. Already playing with the lead. And now they’re celebrating a home run. They’re having a great time out there. [Music] That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. Now the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan. Jake Eer gives way. It’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Jose Soraniano into the game. Should be a good first matchup for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. Trey Turner now. and he bunts, but that’s a foul ball. The real threats are coming up. already given up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. Next offering is down low and the count is one and two. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. To the right side, Rangifo Turner is out. Now that is first base Harper. Here’s Bryce Harper at the plate. Now, growing up, he experienced a moment straight out of the sandlot. Harper was getting ready to play for Team USA, but he didn’t have a bat, so he borrowed one from his dad. Okay. The bat was autographed by Pete Rose. His dad wiped the autograph clean and told Bryce to use it. I’m not sure how many dads would have done that. One down, base is empty. That’s a ball. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Sam Bachmann up and throwing. Burke, the lefty, warming up as well. Brown ball to the right side. Harper retired. Two down, base is empty. And now for the Phillies, Nick Castanos. First pitch misses. Counts. One and0. Foul ball there. Two down. Oman up the middle tosses to first and that will end the inning. But the Phils get two on this blast. It’s now 3 nothing. Back after this on the show. We go to the top of the seventh. Here comes Yan Mona. The Halos in striking distance but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laidoff man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. Downstairs to Mona. Action in the pen down there. Max Lazar up and loosening in the pen. Johnson also throwing. Check swing called strike. Well, he’s back out there to begin the seventh. That surprised you at all, Chris? Yeah, a little bit. It was a little rough sixth inning there, but his skippers got a lot of confidence in him. But trust me, they will keep a close eye on how he does in this one. Just about to hit that century mark. 100 pitches for this game. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Two-2 now. Hard hit left side. Turner with the throw to first and they get the lead off hitter in the seventh. Those plays can be tricky. They’re routine, but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth. He delivered a good play right there. manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Christopher Sanchez is done. Great effort out of him as he exits in line for the win. We’ll tell you about the new pitcher when we get back. Max Lazar will take over here and he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits period. The batter now Logan Ohappy first off and it just misses and another ball. Try to get him to chase on the change up that time. So, definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. One down, base is empty. Swag a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Waves at the bender for the strike out. This guy will throw any pitch in any count. 3-2. He goes off speed. Gets the out. Now it’s the right fielder Lamont Wade Jr. Foul ball. Slapped foul. Late night. Lamont down on strikes. Angels held in check. They trail it here three nothing. [Music] Back here Citizens Bank Park and now it is JT Real Mutoo on the ground. Sends it across to first. gets the catcher by a step. [Music] Bryson Stock will hit next and he lays down a punt. Bare hand scoop, but no chance. That’s an infield single. He was racing down the line and probably didn’t assume he was going to be safe until his foot hit the bag and looked up for the umpire. Nice bunt and great hustle to get himself a knock. Here’s the Phillies DH who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts in the dirt. Blocked. He’s in there. Stop into scoring position on the wild pitch. And there goes the double play possibility. Can’t imagine he’s too happy with that one on the mound. Just one pitch after giving up the single, he basically turns it into a double. Let’s go out to short to first save and runners at the corners after the infield single. Definitely a tough play but he seems to have had a little trouble getting rid of it and that made all the difference with the speed running up the line. You got to be perfect and right there he just couldn’t get it there in time. Two on, one out. March digs in now. Run around to go. That’s a base hit. Run scores. The throw in and he’s safe. So, it’s first and third with one down. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Runners at the corners here. One away. Sosa getting ready to hit. Ball one, no strikes. Well, he’s just given up three straight hits and now behind in this count to this hitter. Might be a good time for somebody to call a timeout. Maybe the pitching coach to go out there and talk to him just a little bit. And now it’s even up. just could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Runner on the go. Fouled off left side. First and third, one down. left field. Ward moving under it, brings it in. Runner tagging from third. He’ll score in the sack fly and the lead is up to five. So, digging in now for Philadelphia, Kyle Schwarber. He’s already homerred here in this one. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. And first offering is fouled off. Yeah, that’s fouled off. and Schwarb strikes out. Two runs, three hits, no errors, and one left. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Phillies five and the Angels nothing. All set for the start of the inning. Now it’s going to be Luis Reanifo. Lazar back to work. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Moving in the bullpen. Ranger Suarez, the left-hander up and throwing. Kirkering, the right-hander, also getting loose. Next offering is in for a strike in the air. left field. Marsh moves under it and it’s caught for the out. And next for the Angels, Zack Neto 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. Sharp grounder that’s through for a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting first base. So in now for the Angels, Nolan Showell and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Fast in for a strike and it’s nothing at two. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. Swings and misses. That’s the second out. Here’s Mike Trout, one for three. Great speed and great power. A great athlete quite simply. And a first pitch fast is in for a strike. He’s like Mike Trout. You figure whatever you put in his hand, whether it’s a bat, whether it’s a golf club, whether it’s a basketball, he can do it and get it done. And a rare talent. So much fun to watch. Nope. Outside. Needto leads off first with two down to the inning. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Two balls, two strikes. Just off the outside edge. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch in there. Got him looking and that one split the plate. So, one hit is all they get. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. It’s the Phillies five and the Angels nothing. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Sam Bachmann. And with the big deficit on the scoreboard, he almost has to just put that out of his mind. Every outing matters for relievers and their numbers. But I think it’s tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game. Trey Turner at the plate 0 for three in this one and the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Bachmann in his second season he features a slider a two seamer and he works in a change up. Rips that one to right. He makes the grab. One down. Now batting first base. Here is Bryce Harper. That clips the corner. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Connor Brogden preparing to come on if needed. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Next one is off the play now. One and two outside. That’s a ball swing and a miss. Some high cheese for strike three. Boogie just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count off and two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. First off in for a strike to Castanos. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. And that keeps the inning alive. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Got the top of the ball a little bit, but not much. That was hit pretty hard through the infield, so I think he’ll be happy with that swing. Definitely generated some good bat speed. Here comes Real Muto. And that one just misses a ball and no strikes. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there and it’s fouled away. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. swinging a high-fly ball right field. Wait, makes the catch and that is that Philly strand one, but they hold a five nothing lead. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Orion Kirkery. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Here’s the left fielder, Taylor Ward. Left fielder, Taylor Ward. Off the plate inside. Ball one. and misses inside. That was the sweeper, but it missed. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. As she elevates, guys aren’t touched yet. Now at the plate, Joe Adele. Now one close rule to ball one. Some bullpen action for Philadelphia Ranger Suarez. The left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose inside. Just missed. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. swings through the sweeper. The Phils leading by five. You’re in the top of the ninth. Popped foul out of play off to the right [Music] to third. And that one handled. Angels with only one out left. Now batting third base Yan Mona. And now Yan Mona. Just missed. That’s too low. And now two and 0. swings through that one for strike one. He’s been great in this one. Eye hand coordination just failed him a little bit right there. Right side hard hit. Throw to first ball game and the Phillies use three pitchers to combine for the shut out. Whether you’re a season ticket holder or you just come to a couple of games a year to see your team win at home, there’s just something special about that. Good job by this team to get it done for the hometown fans. 5 nothing the final in this one. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami. Thanks for joining us. [Music]
