NO ONE saw this coming… Rangers make HUGE move | NYR News

No one saw this coming as the New York Rangers have made yet another big move. This time trading Keandre Miller to a team no one had on their trade list. We’re going to break down exactly what this trade means for the New York Rangers moving forward and the specifics of what we know about the trade. We’re going to break it all down in this episode of Rangers Digest. But before we do that, a quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. But Brett, let’s get right into it. We were kind of expecting this, but nobody saw that it was going to be to this team, and it’s the Carolina Hurricanes. And it is Keandre Miller. He is being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. At the time we’re making this video, we were trying to wait, you know, for the specifics of the trade. We were waiting to see if the trade was going to go through. Well, it was going to be, but it is lingering for a while here. Uh, as you can see, some of these are from over an hour ago at this point. So, things are lingering for some reason. Probably just the logistics of the trade. I’m sure maybe other teams have come in last minute on Keandre Miller because at the end of the day, he can help a lot of teams. It’s just, you know, his time in New York has probably run out. So, you know, we’ll get into the specifics of what it is in a second. Multiple insiders are, you know, saying that this is happening. Keandre Miller is going to Carolina. The Rangers are working on a trade to send them there. We’ll get into what Keandre Miller means for the Carolina Hurricanes and what this trade means for the New York Rangers in just a second, too. But I wanted to get into the return. And this is from Vince McGlaniano. Great insider from the New York Rangers. And he’s been doing fantastic work this entire time. And since, you know, I started on the channel, he’s been awesome. So, obviously a trusted source. and he said that he believes that it is a draft pick coming back the other way. There’s no salary coming back. We’ll get into the implications of what this all means on the salary cap as well, but according to a source, it is a draft pick and Carolina actually has two first round draft picks next year. So, it could be one of those first round draft picks. Brett, how do you feel about this? It looks like I mean, we knew Keandre Miller was going to be traded or offer cheated, you know, his time is in New York is done, but it seems like he’s going to Carolina and it could be for a draft pick. Yeah, this is very interesting, Darius, because, you know, it wasn’t on our bingo card. We were talking about the Detroit Red Wings uh being in the mix here for Kee Miller, and then it comes out today, as you said, multiple insiders are on it. We don’t have the final details quite yet, but you saw right there, Elliot Friedman is on it, Vince Maglaniano is on it, that Keandre Miller will be the Carolina Hurricane. We just don’t know exactly what is coming back in return yet. But you know that Chris Drury has to value what is coming back in return because he is historic for not making major moves within the Eastern Conference and could go one of two ways here guys. Either he doesn’t believe that Keandre Miller is really an impact player so he’s not too concerned about trading him within conference. I don’t tend to believe that. I tend to believe that Chris Jury saw something that he likes with Carolina that he could get back in return. You mentioned they got those two first round picks, which is a little odd because we all expect Carolina to be a very good team. So, I’m not sure that those picks are going to be too valuable, but Chris Drury looks like he wants one of those picks at least to start uh on the table here. And uh yeah, so he definitely has to value what’s coming back cuz Daryus, you know that he doesn’t make significant trades within the Eastern Conference. But this deal makes a lot of sense for both the Rangers and the Carolina Hurricanes because the the Hurricanes have even more cap space than the Detroit Red Wings do. The Hurricanes have almost $27 million to play with. They may even have over $27 million to play with here. And uh look, they got the draft compensation to do it. They got the money to do it. and they have a need for it. The Hurricanes, you know, they’re making Kandre Miller out to be a a superstar here. They’re all excited to have him. But look, they certainly have a need and it makes sense for them to bring in Ke Miller here. It does. And like you said, they have a ton of cap space so they can pay him the 6 to7 million that was projected to go Kandre Miller’s way. And their defense score over there is pretty good. They’re missing a couple pieces. Like they’re missing Orlov right now. Brett Burns, we don’t know what’s going to happen with him, right? So, they’re missing a couple pieces, but KAR Miller, he fits in pretty seamlessly there because they have other guys that can carry the load. So, it does make sense for them. And for the New York Rangers and what you’re missing, we can kind of get into that as well. This is a guy that had 27 points. By the way, keep in mind, Kandre Miller played 74 games last year. He had 27 points. You just acquired via free agency Gabricov, who played in all 82 games and had 30 points and is not considered an offensive defenseman. And KAJ Miller is considered at least a two-way defenseman. So, I will give it to Keandre. He was playing, you know, a lot of minutes against the toughest competition last year and he was averaging 22 minutes a night, but he was a big body that, you know, has had all the tools in the world. Could have put it together. Wasn’t able to put it together. He’s going to be 26 at this point. I just don’t think it was going to work out any further. And for the New York Rangers, like we’ve been talking about, if you get a first round pick back, like you mentioned, Brett, it’s going to be, you know, a higher pick, of course, or a lower pick, I should say, in the first round because Carolina is going to be expected to make the playoffs, but you can then use that first rounder to flip it, go make another move, right? Certain things you can you can make some moves within making this move and of course go out and maybe flip it for another defenseman or something like that. Maybe sign another defenseman via free agency, which at this point, a lot of the best players are already off the boards. You know, a lot of the best players have actually ressigned with their teams as well. But, uh, Kandre Miller, you can see as a top four, two-way defenseman with mobility, all of that. We know what he brings to the tables. Jay Fresh, you know, didn’t have the greatest year, but I feel like he was kind of pushed into a position for him to not succeed. But you can see from some Carolina Hurricanes fans that the things with KA Miller that are bad are things that can be taught. Now, again, I can agree with this to a degree, but I think Hurricanes fans right now are thinking they’re going to get an all-star defenseman who’s going to be able to play topline minutes and stuff like that. I will maintain he was throwing pizzas through the middle of the ice in very inopportune times, right? I I don’t know if you can unlearn certain things like that, like those decision-making things, but um again, he said that Tim Gleason, who works with some of the defenseman, has a good track record of fixing those issues. Again, Keandre to me is going to be 26. I don’t know if you, you know, can fix some of those things at this point. And of course, Rangers fans having fun with it at this point, too. Trading away KA Miller so you can sign KAR Miller, but 5 years older is the most New York Rangers thing of all time at this point. But, uh, any final thoughts on, you know, Kandre Miller? We don’t have the specifics of the trade yet. We will cover it as soon as that comes down. I assume later today, right? And I assume that it is going to be for a draft pick. I don’t think Chris Jury wants any cap coming back the other way at this point. But, uh, any final thoughts on the move? Of course, Rangers fans are having fun with it, but I wanted to touch on this before we wrap up, too. I mean, not a great track record in keeping guys who’ve been first round picks. No. Yeah, the Rangers haven’t been able to develop well. And look, that’s why we have a few players here uh that they have developed. Guys like Zack Jones, who is going to be gone. Guys like Will Kulie, who hopefully the Rangers are able to retain. We hope so. We don’t know that. And Braden Schneider, we’ll see what his future holds. He’s here for at least right now, but who knows what happens next year. You know, the Rangers need to really value those guys that they have been able to develop because as you can see on that statistic right there, the Rangers, all these guys are gone. Haven’t been able to develop any of these guys. But my final thoughts on Kandre Miller is look, you can’t teach instincts. And I know Hurricanes fans are all excited about this. You know, they’re getting an injection of youth, which is certainly good for them. I’m glad you brought up Brent Burns and Dmitri Orlov because look, you’re looking at Burns, you know, Hall of Fame career, but he’s 40 years old. You know, you’re looking at Demetri Orlov, 33 years old, not getting any younger. You don’t know what the future holds for those two players. You know, great careers, but who knows uh what’s going to happen next. And you bring in a guy like Keandre Miller, 25 years old, you know, he is not getting younger either. He’s been here half a decade, but he is much younger than those two guys. And it looks like the Hurricanes are looking to revamp their blue line, bring in some youth, bring in a big body. And look, they have they’re a confident bunch. You know that about Carolina. They uh they think they’re you know what don’t stink. And they think they could turn Keandre Miller into uh better than Gabricov, quite frankly. So, u I think it makes sense for the Hurricanes, Darius. I really do. And you mentioned that two-way potential with Miller. I mean, we haven’t seen it in quite a while. I believe the last time we saw that two-way potential was, I’d say it was back in 2022, 2023. He had a good year. He had 43 points that year. I believe had nine goals, 34 assists. That was a good offensive year for Kandre Miller. We haven’t seen him do it since. But look, Hurricanes fans think they could unlock it, get it out of him. We’ll see if they’re able to do that. But I know they must be enamored by his age and his mobility because that’s what they need on their blue line moving forward. And listen, let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be the first time that another team were to take a Rangers, not necessarily a prospect, but one of their youngerish players that hasn’t really worked out or developed well and then turn them into something where then they, you know, end up playing a little bit better for another franchise. It’s happened in the past, but I mean KAJ Miller, he’s definitely a top four defenseman and he still would be on the New York Rangers. But I just think they have to move on at this point, especially for the amount of money uh that he wants, of course, on his next contract and what’s projected because that could make sense for another team. It just doesn’t make sense with the current makeup of the New York Rangers. So, it’s going to be interesting to see what they end up doing, the fallout from this trade as well. We’ll have you covered on the channel. So, let us know how you feel in the comments about this whole Kandre Miller situation cuz it looks like it’s coming to a head. you will be traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. And let us know how you feel in the comments.

  1. Another horrible move by sleepy Chris. I’ve been a Ranger fan for over 60 years! And he is the worst GM we ever had. And that is hard to say considering how bad our previous GM’s have been. Granted Key had an off year but he was still our best defenseman. You kids have no frigin idea what you are talking about. Even this past season, for every goal he gave up he saved 5! Skating half way across the ice to cover for other players mistakes. Just look at who got him! Carolina is 10 times better at procuring talent than we are. So if they want him and we don’t who do you think will be right!!!!!!!! FIRE DRURY FIRE DRURY FIRE DRURY FIRE DRURY!!!!!!!!!! My kids moved to New Jersey so I did too. They keep telling me not to torture myself with the Rangers and become a Devil’s fan. I always say no no no no no but this might’ve pushed me over the edge!

  2. Aquiring Miller is a reasonable gamble for other orgs. For starters, it's reasonable to consider that other orgs feel they have better coaching/development programs that can improve Miller's play, such as his decision making.

  3. Getting a low 1st rounder would be a good return for KMiller. Now he can excel and reach his potential on another team, of course this will be with a division rival

  4. I thought the Miller kid was a good player. Drury continues his hysterical dismantling of this Rags team! Thank God I don't have to worry about the Rags winning any kind of hardware for YEARS to come!

  5. I love the channel guys, but you said that Miller has been traded. I don’t believe anything has been finalized. Working on a trade is more accurate at this standpoint.

  6. Doi Doi doi. He is no longer sleepy Drury. Doi doi doi. Drury good. Doi doi doi. Drury get back value from carolina say me. Doi doi doi. Come on fellas. All you do is speculate. ZZZ sleepy digest. Get better than this.

  7. K Miller gone?

  8. Rangers picked up Scott Morrow along with a First and a Second in 2026. The first is conditional with top-ten protection. Morrow is a R-Shot D-Man. Great Trade!!

  9. So NYR have sent Skjei and miller to CAR while getting Fox the other way. Not bad so far as it’s 2-0 us come playoff time but both teams have to have Florida in mind

  10. Adios KAM. Will miss your pee wee like PK efforts, standing around with your stick in the air. Will miss your chronic turn over passes. Will miss you chasing the puck and player into the corners and leaving the crease wide open. Carolina maybe able to coach him up to his potential, wouldn’t surprise me if he improves dramatically. This is what the current NYr group is famous for.

  11. Classic nyr. Lets sign an older guy after having a career year in a defensive setup in LA lol. Trading miller is fine IF you want to rebuild. But replacing younger guys with older lesser guys is dumb.
