MLB LIVE🔴 Arizona Diamondbacks vs St. Louis Cardinals – Jul 19, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

First pitch moments away on the hill here today. Merryill Kelly and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. And most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser. The ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. On the ground of first, but that rolls foul. Let’s jump right in. Swings and misses. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Good late cut for the strike out there. I think really got in on him. And you know, a cutter isn’t really a huge swinging miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. You’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact. But that one right there did a whole lot more than that. That was a really good pitch. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. Nice grab. Now we take a check of the St. Louis Cardinal lineup. And Chris, this group has been struggling to put up runs lately. Well, they haven’t been on base a ton, and even when they are, they haven’t been hitting very well with the runners on base. So, they need a player or two to really step up, have some quality at bats, hit according to the situation, and sort of break out of this. I think if they do, the rest of this lineup will follow. Alec Burlson, the next to hit, takes ball one. Two out, space is empty. And that’s a little bit high. Two and 0. Just off the inside edge. That’s a wall. Went with the cutter again, but couldn’t find his own. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Runner at first with two away. Here comes Wilson Contrus. That one misses. That’s five straight. in the air to left center. Guriel sizes this one up, makes the grab, and that is that. The Cards leave one, and now Arizona gets its first opportunity in a scoreless ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. back here in the desert and towing the slab in this one. Steven Matz, what should we keep an eye on here with him? Well, he’s putting together a really nice season on the mound. Erra in the low threes. Very respectable when you consider guys are looking to do damage. They’re not trying to just walk and hit singles. They’re trying to hit homers and draw walks and score runs. So, when you have a guy that can limit the other team from scoring more than a few runs, that’s really tough to beat game in and game out. That one fouled off. Here’s a fun fact on Corbin, and I I don’t know if everyone remembers their first jersey, but Carol certainly does. He used to rock an Ichiro Suzuki growing up. [Music] Pitches into Derek. And that’s ball one. [Applause] That one missing inside. [Applause] Way inside. in the air left field. Fine has this one sized up. Brings it in and there’s one down. Time to take a look at the Diamondbacks lineup. And it’s clear the most important job they have today is getting to the starting pitcher early and often. No doubt about that. That’s the best way to disrupt a game. But can they do it? Certainly something for us to pay attention to in this one, partner. Jake McCarthy now at the plate outside and that’s ball one inside. just missed. One out. Base is empty. He swings and fouls one off. That one finds a corner and that is strike two. Careful. [Music] Gets a piece and stays alive. [Music] Oh, great stop. But no chance. That’s an infield single. Now up next for Arizona, Heraldo Peromo. [Applause] Ripped to right. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Out number two. Betty for first baseman Josh Naylor. Here’s Josh Naylor taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. And first offering is fouled off. McCarthy leads off first with two down to the inning. Well, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Go and chew now. This one in the dirt. Two outs. Swing and a miss. And he got him. That ends the inning. One left for Arizona. Scoreless after one. Second inning set to go. Now here is Thomas Saj Kelly back to work. Sajay-Z goes 5′ 11 in 185 lbs and he was a fifth round pick in 2020. Next offer in there for a strike and a count is 0 and two. Larry Bullard, our umpire behind the plate. Bullard’s got a pretty standard strike zone. Sometimes they’ll have you guessing a little bit, but overall well respected umpire in the league. Swings and misses. dropped him out. Pretty much textbook pitching for the three pitch K right there. Jumped ahead 02 on two pitches he didn’t want to go after at the plate. Then knowing he’s going to be a little more aggressive trying to protect expands just out of the zone where he couldn’t do anything with it. He gets the strike out and keeps the pitches thrown to a mid. Very nice. And now the short stop Mason win. off the mark there and it’s one and0. One down. Base is empty. Up and in. And that’s ball two. Two balls. No strike. And another ball. They’ll score here in the second. That one’s in there. And now three and one. Fouled off left side. This one popped up right side. Naylor and there’s two away. Two down. Base is empty. And stepping in for the Cardinals. Jos Fairmine. Pitch misses. One and0. One and0. Next offering is fouled back. Misses inside and a count two and one to the right side. Alexander on to first. St. Louis goes down in order. Nothing across here this half. We go to the bottom of inning number two. We’re tied nothing. Nothing. Back here at Chase Field, we head to the bottom of the second. Here’s a big power. Aueno Suarez. Suarez. Just missed one ball. No strike. And a foul ball. [Music] The 1-1 [Music] swings through that one and two. [Music] Ripped to short, throws to first. That’s one out in the bottom of the second. Batting six, left fielder Lordis Guriel Jr. Here’s Lordis Guriel Jr. [Applause] First pitch and he just misses. [Music] And that’s outside. [Applause] [Music] Next offering is in for a strike. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds. They’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. swing and a ball hammered left field and it’s off the wall. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. Nice line drive to the pull side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Alec Thomas now First pitch just misses. [Applause] [Music] At the belt and fires. [Music] That one hammered but pulled fouled. Guriel leads off first with one away. On the ground to short could be two. Donovan for one. What a double play that was. Inning over. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. We head on now to the top of the third. That was good. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now here is Pedro PZ. Ball one. No strikes. One and0. Just missed. And a foul ball makes the count two and one. just missed. Swinging a foul out of play. Check swing now to look down to first and James Kingsley says he won around. This guy will throw any pitch in any count. 32 he goes off speed gets the outielder. Victor Scott next up for the Cardinals. [Applause] And that one fouled off. Swings and pulls it. Foul to the right side. One down. Face is empty. Just off the outside edge. Two balls, two strikes. Really good take, especially with two strikes. [Music] Next pitch is outside. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance. Get him out of there and deal with the next guy. Now here is Brendan Donovan. This one in the air right field. Carol settles underneath it and that’ll do it. Home half of the third coming up. No score. And we’re back. Now it’s the second baseman. Bla1 Alexander. Second baseman. Blaze Alexander. That one off the mark. Ball one. ripped to third and caught. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. And now the switch in and catcher, Jose Herrera. swing and a tapper that rolls foul up the middle. Donovan to first and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. Now batting the right fielder, Corbin Carroll. This is Corbin Carroll fly to left his first time. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. First pitch strike right there for him. He’s going to have to do that consistently if he’s going to give any length to his skipper. Still tied at zero. Last of the third. And it goes just fouled. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strike out. And that is the inning. And the Diamondbacks down in order. And we are still scoreless. Back here in the desert. Start of the fourth. Now the number two hitter Ivan Herrera. And that one is downstairs. And that is ball one right through there for a strike. Generally second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. [Applause] That’s off the inside corner and the count is even. Two and two. swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Dives and he can’t hang on. Throws to second. Not in time. That’s a leadoff double. He went up there and got it with two strikes. I’m not going to leave this in the umpire’s hands. I’m going to be aggressive. It was in a location where he could get those arms extended that he loves to do. So, nice job right there coming back in that at bat. Now up for St. Louis, Alec Burlson. He reached out to walk his first time and that’s through there for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Come on. [Applause] Strike him out. Stays alive. Here stands at second with no outs. Swings and misses on the baseball up in the zone for the strike out. Finished him off by blowing it from up high, but they did a really nice job of setting that pitch up. The plan of attack early on was to keep everything down around the knees. So that was a good call to change his eye level and run it by him for the K. Wilson Contreras now up to the plate. Fly to left his first time. Swings through that one. Oh, one. One out and a runner at second. Top half of inning number four. And that one clips the corner. [Music] Not close and it deflects away. He’s in there. So a wild pitch allows the runner to advance. Well, he’s got nobody to blame but himself. With one out, a runner on third can come home all sorts of ways now. That’s why as a pitcher, you have to execute pitches even better when they’re runners on base. Fourth inning underway. No score. Goes down low. Oh, that was such a great opportunity to grab the lead. You have the infield back. All you’ve got to do is just put the ball in play on the ground and you drive across a run. That’s a frustrating outcome for the hitter. Now still have a chance, but it’s probably going to take a clutch hit with two outs. So the go-ahehead run at scoring position and now Thomas Sajay-Z struck out swinging his first time. Fast ball for a strike. It’s 0 and one. He’s pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. [Applause] Two outs and a swing a miss. More and more are looking to slug regardless of the count in this situation. We’ll keep a close eye on his approach. [Applause] fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Two outs with a runner at third. [Applause] Swinging a miss that one in the dirt up with it. Fires to first. That completes the strike out and that’ll do it. So, a leadoff double, but they can’t cash it in to the bottom of inning number four. Now, we’re tied nothing. Nothing. Back here at Chase Field, ready to go. Bottom four. And stepping in is the speedy Jake McCarthy. McCarthy and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. You know, these Dbacks, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. Swanging a ground ball and that goes foul. That’s a little bit low. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond, and they just keep eating right out of your hand. That one misses. Three and two now. Ground ball left side. Get there. Tosses across the first. One out in the bottom of the fourth. He’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. Heraldo Peromo stands in now for the Diamondbacks. And he takes a strike. And a foul ball on the ground to first. He takes it on his own and that quickly two away. Good fade and sinking action of that change up. Got that hit to rollman Josh Naylor. And now it’s Josh Naylor 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. Pitch misses. Ball one. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Back to the mound. He’s got it. the throw to first and he has thrown four shut out innings. So one, two, three go to Diamondbacks and we’re still knotted at zero. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the top of the fifth. Now it’s the shortstop. Mason win. Kelly back to work. That one finds the zone. 0 and one. You know, these Cardinals, to put it bluntly, need to put together more competitive at bats, and I don’t think they’ve lived up to their own expectations at the plate. They’ve gone down on strikes at a high rate today, so it’s probably time to simplify the approach and just find ways to put the ball in play. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Swaying at a ball popped in the air and that’ll get down for a hit. Had a good start to the inning. Dominant performance for him today. Boo. Just two hits allowed so far. No runs across either. and he’s had an answer for just about every hitter he’s faced. So, I don’t think this hit is going to knock him off his stride too much. Now, the left fielder, Jose Farmine. He’s 0 for one. Lays down a bunt to the right side. Got him on the offbalance throw out on the sack bunk. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. The job was to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score the go ahead run. That’s exactly what happened. So you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. So the go-ahead run in scoring position and now the Cardinals catcher Pedro Pahes. He’s 0 for one. And that clips the inside corner. As a pitcher, you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run. So you really have to execute on the mound. That misses and one and one. base hit center field. Here comes the throw. It’s off the mark and he scores and it’s one- nothing. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. One down. And up next for St. Louis, Victor Scott. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Down and away for ball one. If he doesn’t get a knock right here, that pitch he just took is going to eat at him for a while. You might not see another pitch like that from a top level guy like this. Here’s a 1-1. That one ripped. That’s a hit. They fired in quickly. So, it’s first and second with only one away. Back to back singles. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Brendan Donovan next up for the Cardinals. Flips the corner and that’s strike one. One strike. Pah the lead runner out at second. Scott at first. One gone. [Applause] Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Heading for the plate. The throw in. It’s offline and he scores. It’s two nothing. Well, here we are part time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump off. manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Runners at the corners here. One away and the batter now Ivon Herrera one for two. Grounded to third could be two to second. There’s one and that’s two. But two runs for him and they jump ahead. Home half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Cardinals two and the Diamondbacks nothing. Bottom of the inning. Stepping in the long ball threat. Au Heno Suarez. Au Suarez. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. And they had their first hit since the second inning. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he can handle. I know it was a ground ball, but it was absolutely hammered through the infield. That’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder. You know, they used to say charge it. Crazy. Here’s Guriel one for one with a single so far. on the ground to third to Jay-Z Donovan for one and they get it easily at first. It’s a double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Alec Thomas. Alec Thomas stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Swang at a highf fly ball. Well struck that one back there. And that’s a foul ball. The Cards up by two. Last half of inning number five. That one outside and the count even. One and one. on the ground to the left, whips it to first and that is that nothing doing for Arizona. They trail things here two nothing. Top of the sixth inning and stepping in for the Cardinals, Alec Burlson. Swing and a miss. Strike one. 0 and one. Check. Swing. Called. Strike. 0 and two now. [Applause] Breaks his bat. Pops it up. Reaching for it and brings it in. Now batting the first baseman, Wilson Contreras. And up to hit is Wilson Contraras. Bowl for two in this one. And that drops in for a strike. swinging him in. No balls, two strikes. That fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. And ball one on the ground. Suarez whips it across. Two quick outs to open the top of the six. Two outs. Base is empty. Thomas Sajay-Z will hit next. [Applause] That’s in there. And it’s all one straight [Music] on the ground right side. slings to first and it’s a one two3 inning. Offense held in check there. 891 scheduled in the bottom of the six. It’s the Cardinals two and the Diamondbacks nothing. Sunny Gray gets the ball now and this is an important part of this game. Tight score and still a lot of outs to get. So they’re looking for a big outing out of him right here to get some critical outs. Bla1 Alexander stands in now for the Diamondbacks for one so far. Blaze Alexander right through there for his strike. Well, these Diamondbacks just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. Chasing pitches has been a big part of the story. We’ve seen it quite a bit today. It’s been tough for him to make contact at times and it just doesn’t look like they’re seeing it very well as a group. That one misses and now it’s even one and one. And on the mound, you know, confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses. He’s had him eaten out of the palm of a That hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. And here’s the catcher, Jose Herrera. Rolled out to second in his first at bat. Well, both sides equally as strong. So, not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. Now, this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Tag save at second and good hustle to move up. That’s a wild pitch. Up next for the Diamondbacks. Right fielder. Corbin Carroll the next to hit. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Boo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Applause] There’s a swing and a miss. No ball. Too straight. That one not close. Now one and two [Applause] inside. Almost got him. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. Really think the outer half is open. [Applause] in the air. Center field. Scott gets there. He’s under it. Puts it away for the out. Up next for the Diamondbacks. Designated hitter Jake McCarthy. Jake McCarthy stands in now for the Diamondbacks. [Applause] And there’s a strike on the outside corner. That misses the zone and it’s a ball and a strike. [Applause] just missed with the tying run at the plate here in the bottom of the six [Applause] and that one missing low. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with the 3-1 count. and ball four to a board. Pretty much the last thing you want from your bullpen arms are free passes, especially in spots like this. Make the team fun. Here’s the shortstop at the play. Peraldo Purdomo. [Applause] First offering and it just misses. Homeplayed umpires try to tighten things up a little bit. [Applause] Six straight outside the strike zone. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Two on, two outs. And that misses as well. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and the hitters count. Josh Naylor in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Next offering is in for a strike. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. [Applause] And that’ll load the bases. Good patience to take that walk and keep the line moving and it sets up a critical bat coming up with the bases loaded here. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Sunny Gray will depart and he leaves with the bases loaded so he’ll look for some help from his teammate coming in behind him. Now pitching for John King gets handed the rock out of the pen. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. And now Josh Naylor, he’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. line drive. This one could be trouble. One runs in, another comes in to score. Coming home. The relay to the plate, but it’s offline. He will score. 32. They take the lead. Just a huge bat right there. When you connect and it jumps off your bat like that, you’re thinking double at the very least. What a great swing on it, man. He wasn’t at all. Auheno Suarez up to the plate now. That one hit to right. Burlson on his way over and that is the inning. But three runs come across in the inning. All on this three-run double. It’s now a 32 ball game. back after this on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, John Curtis. These are the spots where Levers really make a name for themselves. Late and there’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. leading off. So digging in win [Applause] and that one upstairs. Movement in the bullpen. Anthony Dclafani up and throwing for manager Tory Lavello. Number 43, the lefty warming up as well. [Applause] Check swing and he went strike one. One strike [Applause] swing a miss at a slider. Clearly was sitting on a fast right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes. Swings and misses. Strike him out. Chase the basketball up the ladder for strike three. A big first out here in the seventh for the punch out. Yeah, it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this. You got the leadoff hitter so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this. So a strikeout really puts them on their heels. Jose Farmine next up for the Cardinals. And that is downstairs. And that’s ball one. Looking to get the tying run on base. Close but called a ball. Ball two. this to third and it stays fair around first and hustling for second. The throw in and now the tying run is into scoring position. Well, when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. One out, runner at second. Pah digs in. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. Swag and a miss. Oh, and one, holding on to a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven. Comes up empty. down to the dirt, swinging a miss on first gets the out. Two down after the strike out for me up to third on the wild pitch. Nice job recovering to complete the strike out at first base right there. Even though the runner from second does move up to third, it’s not a big deal in this situation now that they’re two outs. Just makes blocking pitches in the dirt to this next batter even more critical. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. John Curtis out of the game and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming up. We’ll be back in a minute. Pitching change here. Number 43. This softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. [Applause] Now up for St. Louis. Victor Scott. That one a little bit high and that’s ball one. Gets the outside corner with that one. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone [Applause] on the ground to third. Suarez fires across the diamond. That’s a third out. Nice work from the snake pen there. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s the Diamondbacks three and the Cardinals two. Bottom of the seventh. Here’s the left fielder Lordis Goreel Jr. Leading off for the Diamondbacks left fielder Lordis Guriel Jr. And that is in for a strike 0 and one. Next offering is outside. That one 95 to finish him off. And now the center fielder, Alec Thomas. Alec Thomas. And that’s off the inside edge. And it’s one and0. Two and0. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the seventh. Next offering is in for a strike. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. One down. Base is empty on the ground right side over to first. Two up, two down. Good armside run and sink on that pitch right there. Got inside on him and got him to bounce into that out. Second base, Blaze. Base is empty. Bla1 Alexander now at the plate. And that’s downstairs. One and0. And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch. And that misses. And it’s two and one. Foul ball. Two down. Dolman battling here as he fouls it away. And a foul ball. He stays alive. 2-2 now and a swing and a miss. And that’s that. Diamondbacks down quickly and it remains a 3-2 ball game. And we’re back in the top of the eighth. And here’s the St. Louis leadoff man, Brendan Donovan. [Applause] And that is out of play. and fouled off. [Applause] One and two. and misses inside. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Strike three. Got him swinging. And now away. Pretty big strike out right there to start this eighth inning. Down one. Any lead on base runner really makes this inning a bit more interesting. But now this offense has to switch from possibly trying to manufacture a run to needing to run into something or just try to string multiple hits together to get a run across the plate. And next is the designated hitter, Ivon Herrera. One for three. [Applause] And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. [Applause] and a strike. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. on a line. Down the line and it’s fouled. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Trying to hold a one-run lead. And we’re in the top of the eighth. [Applause] And that one inside and it hit him. He had him one two and he ends up hitting him with a pitch. And up next for St. Louis, Alec Burlson on the ground. Two ball to second. That’s one on the nailer. They get two. Well, the second base made that one look easy. Great feed to the shortstop. Shortstop completes the play. They get out of a jam and they end the inning. [Applause] now pitching for Matthew Liberator taking over on the mound. Well, I got to think he probably has a little extra in the tank facing his former team. And there’s not a player in the league that doesn’t get a little extra motivation when he plays against his old squad. Well, one-run game. Jose Herrera stands in now for the Diamondbacks. H Liberator in his second season, 25 years old, a former first round pick back in 2018. In the air, right field and that will fall and the leadoff man aboard. Now batting the right fielder Corin. Next to hit for Arizona, Corbin Carroll 0 for three with two flyyous and a strikeout. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Nobody out. Runner at first. [Music] Outside low and the count is one and one. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. And that drops in for a strike. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Phil Mahon preparing to come on if needed. Ley getting cranked up as well. [Music] Corbin goes down on strikes. So up next, Jake McCarthy, designated hitter, Jake McCarthy. Come on, let’s keep it going. misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. This guy absolutely flies. The defense wants to turn two, but they’ve got to get a ball they can do it with. Make sure you get the first out before you try to rush and get two and end up with nothing. Just off the outside edge and it’s two and0 getting squeezed a little bit here late. And that one is inside. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. And there’s the automatic. [Music] This one smacked out to left center. It drops in. Gets away a little bit. showed some really nice patience in that atbat. Worked himself into a good count. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. Two on, one out. Heraldo Purdomo stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Fouled off down the right side. [Applause] That missed inside. One and one. Runners at first and second with one gone here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. Here grounds third headed for the plate. He’ll score and it’s an RBI single and they lead by two. That was just a total nightmare for lefties. I’d be very surprised to see that match up again. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing foul. One thing that was great about the approach. His head was down all the way through the pitch. And that’s how you do it. Runners at the corners here. One away. And now the first baseman, Josh Naylor. Close one. doesn’t get the call. Ball one. First and third, one down. [Applause] The kick and the pitch. Runner goes swing and a miss. And they got him. You can see they’re continuing to try to apply pressure on this pitcher who struggled a little bit. But the problem is you get caught right there. You’re helping him out. You’re giving him an out that he struggled to get. You want to maintain those base runners. Let some of those guys coming up to the plate that got some pop, can hit the ball in the gap, drive in a couple of more runs. Fly ball down the line and that’s a foul ball. [Applause] Good eye in that spot. [Applause] swings through it and that’s a strike out. But the RBI single pushes across a run. Last chance coming up here for the Cards. Welcome back. And here comes the closer Kevin Ginkle coming on to face a righty here. And he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Here’s Contras now 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. [Applause] Headed towards the corner. Carol takes it in for the out. One down. Now that is third baseman Thomas. He’s two outs away. Thomas Sajay-Z next up for the Cardinals. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. [Applause] Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field. Brings it in and there’s two away. Now that is shortstop Mason win. One out left for the Cardinals. And now the shorts stop Mason win. [Applause] There’s the strike of the knees. [Applause] Fast ball is outside. [Applause] The shorts stop takes the ball. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Hit to right and that should do it. And that’ll do it. I don’t care if you’re a top team or you’re a middle of the pack team. Every ball club wants to be dominant at home. Winning a game like this just helps to boost the confidence and makes you look forward to coming out again for the next one. And your final 42 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon. Heat. Heat.
