MLB LIVE🔴 Pittsburgh Pirates vs Chicago White Sox – Jul 19, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello baseball fans and welcome inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the Chicago White Socks going up against the Pittsburgh Pirates. First pitch coming your way next. And now, please welcome your Pittsburgh Pirates. All right, just about set to go. And today’s starter, Mitch Keller. And for some reason, he’s not quite as effective here in front of his home crowd, Chris. Yeah, Boo. And the fans are well aware of that. For him, he’s got to just not press and go out there and say, “Hey, I’m just treating this like any start. home, on the road, it doesn’t matter. My job is to focus on that catcher mitt, attack hitters, and just try to move through a ball game. So, if he can find that kind of focus, doesn’t matter where he’s pitching because he has good enough stuff to go out there and win a ball game. Chase Mitra, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. First pitch 640. That one finds the zone and a count even at one. [Applause] Yeah, there’s the strike and a foul ball. He stays alive. [Applause] Fouls it off. Still one and two. way inside, gets out of the way. This is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than to have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Swag and a miss. The velocity blasted it right past him. It’s a strike out, but they’ll be in good shape if they make their outs as difficult as that one. Those grinding abs take a toll on a pitch as the game goes on. Austin Slater stands in and that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Keller, he’s the kind of starter that a lot of pitching coaches and managers as well really appreciate. Not a guy who’s gonna get himself into trouble by dancing around by walking guys and it’s even up. Yeah, he throws strikes and you know he’s got the command to be in the zone, be effective, but just moving the ball around, getting the ball back from the catcher boo and throwing the pitch. Two-1. It’s an interesting thing when you consider limiting walks. Is it more important today because of how many home runs are being hit? No doubt. Keeping players off the base pass with the way the swings and the launch angles are today. The emphasis of hitting home runs is so huge. It’s never been more important. Oh, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a tee, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. Edgar Carol the next to hit takes ball one. Yeah, I think the other part though as well is it goes both ways because I think that guys at times are more than willing to give up walks because they’ll come back and strike the next hitter out. Fouled off left side at the belt and fires runner double play. What a twin killing to end the inning. So they make short work of him there. And now the Pirates will take their turn in a scoreless ball game. [Applause] Back here at PNC Park. Now the starting pitcher in this one, Aaron Cavali. Chris, what are you looking for from him? Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Bottom of the first at the plate, Spencer Horowitz. And that’s in there at the knees. That one is absolutely belted. Bangs off the wall, makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s there with a leadoff double. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. [Applause] Here’s McCutchen. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Horowitz at second with nobody out. Come on. And that one gets past the catcher. Horowitz up to third on the wild pitch. Even with a good secondary lead, sometimes it’s hard to see just how far that ball’s gotten away from the catcher. And if you can make it to third base pretty much standing up. Well, that time he seemed to have a pretty good read. Gets to third safely and now he’s just 90 ft away from scoring. The pitch to McCutchen and the count one and two. No outs. Runner over at third. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strike out and there’s one away. Brian Reynolds here right through there for a strike. One away with a runner at third. [Music] One, two, in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate. Pirates. That’s inside. And the count now even up. Two strikes. [Music] fights it off. He’ll see another. No score here, but a runner at third with one down inside and it’s three and two. Full count. [Music] Base hit and a run in to score. picks himself up an RBI. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. [Applause] One down. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Nick Gonzalez. And that’s in for a strike. [Applause] [Applause] [Music] throw over to first. Reynolds dives back in safely [Music] [Applause] and there’s a foul ball. man at first, one away. [Applause] Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance, get him out of there, and deal with the next guy. Here’s Tommy Fam. Swinging a ground ball, gets it to first and that is the third out of the inning. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back here in Pittsburgh, new inning getting started. Now it’s the second base, Lenny Sosa. Keller back to work. Hard grounder into the outfield for a nod. Solo runner aboard to start the inning. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. Now it’s Andrew Benendi to hit. That one catches the zone and it’s 0 and one. Benendi goes 5’9 in 180 lb and he’s usually in the outfield. today. He’s the DH. The one ball down. Next offering is outside. Tying run is at first here in the top of the second. And that’s through there for a strike. Two and two. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. Twins and misses. It’s a strike out. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Good pitch right there. I mean, he’s attacking a location that this guy at the plate tends to have trouble with. And there’s just so much information in this day and age. sometimes too much information, but the guys that can take that information, process it, and then go out there, boo, and execute the pitch, go right after that hitter and get the result that they were anticipating. That’s really good pitching right there. And it’s a good job of the pitcher and the catcher working together. Just missed. Making the calls behind the plate in this one is Woody Keller. Yeah. And Woody does a pretty good job back there, Boo. He’s got a pretty fair strike zone most of the time. Maybe some inconsistency here or there, but usually he’s back there doing a solid job. Just missed. Chris, do players ever change their approach in meaningful ways based on who’s umpiring or is it good to just be aware? Rudder takes off. That one fouled off two and two. As the game has moved along, we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires. I’ve been in clubouses where they have pictures of all four guys, nicknames, hometowns, and as well hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the umpire a little bit. That’s great. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Oh, interesting. He’s looking very comfortable out of the stretch after giving up the leadoff single. Backto back strikeouts. So, been able to move that runner up, get him in the scoring position and try to have a better chance of scoring. I tell you, good job so far on the mound. He just needs one more out. And up next for Chicago, Miguel Vargas right through there for a strike. Let’s go. Swinging a miss and it’s 0 and two. No ball. Two strikes. Fans. Another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. The White Socks leave one. They’re down one- nothing. [Applause] And we’re back. Bottom of the second. Here’s the center fielder, Jack Sinski. Sinski. [Applause] Nasty pitch right there. Going one. this to center field. Robert hustling after it. Makes the grab on the run. And there’s one away. They trust him in center field because he’s capable of making plays on the run. And we saw it right there. That’s a player you want patrolling center field. Someone who can attack the ball off the bat. And first offering is fouled off. Just missed. One out. Base is empty. Lined. And that’s a base hit. Batting eight catcher Henry made it first. And now here is Henry Davis. [Applause] And a foul ball. way outside. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Two strikes. Two two. This one in the dirt. Hayes the base runner at first with one out. Lifted in the air right center field. Slater sprinting. Grabs it on the run and there’s two down. Those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Here is Isaiah Ker Falefa. He’s been tearing it up at the plate recently. Can make it a fiveame hitting streak with a knock in this one. Right through there for a strike. Swing and a miss. And the count is 0 and two. Go Pirates. And a pop off right side. Foul territory. And that’s a foul ball. Goes down looking. Pirates leave one, but they’re on top one- nothing. [Music] On to the third inning. Here’s the rookie third baseman, Coulson Montgomery. Montgomery. Oh, nice play. Gathers and throws and they get the out. Well, you can see right there he looks very comfortable going to the backhand. Nice diving stop. Gets up to complete the play. That’ll fire the team up for sure. Michael A. Taylor getting ready to hit and that one fouled off. Come on, let’s go. That’s a bullet, but it goes fouled. One down, base is empty. Foul ball still 0 and two. battling here as he fouls it away. Breaking ball misses down and away. There’s a swing and a drive. that one back there and it’s off the wall into second and he’s got a double. Everything came together for him. Absolutely blasted that one into the gap, but just didn’t have quite enough to clear the wall out there. Maybe a little more elevation under it and it carries over. But that’s a swing you’ll be happy with every time. So up next for Chicago, Chase Maid let off the game with a strike out in the air left field down the line. He makes the grab and there’s two away. So two down now and here is Austin Slater. He reached out to walk his first time. Ball one, no strikes. Was good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Man at second in the air out to center. It’s going to fall for a hit. Tying run is in to score from second. It’s an RBI single. It’s 1-1. Well, we’re starting over again. All tied up. These days, most outfielders play pretty deep. And I’m not sure if that was a factor there or not, but off the bat, you’re thinking it’s going to be a pop out and it just kind of nestled into that spot where no one was able to get to it. So, two down now. It’s the White Sox catcher. Edgar Carol checks over to first back safely. [Applause] line drive. That’s a hit. And now first and second with two outs. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. First and second, two outs. Now here’s the cleanup hitter for the White Socks, Lenny Sosa. That one outside. Ball one. That one at the knees for a strike [Applause] and fouled off. [Applause] Fights that one away. Still one and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swing and a miss. And that is that. So, one run in the inning on this base hit. Call even now at 1-1. Back after this on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Stepping in, Spencer Horwitz. Spencer Horwitz. [Applause] And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. No balls. One strike. Fought off. Foul. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two fall. [Music] And that one cutting but missing down low and it remains two and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Oh, pretty good break on the curveball right there. Maybe not as down in the zone as he would have liked, but deceptive enough to get that swing and miss. And if you don’t catch that pitch out front on the barrel, it bears in on you pretty hard. And now it’s Andrew McCutchen. He struck out swinging at his first at tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. Tied up here in the early going. [Music] fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2 on the ground to the left. Throws across the diamond. Two up, two down. Now batting right fielder Ryan. And now the right fielder B Ryan Reynolds. RBI single his last time up. Pirates. That one drilled left field and that’s a fair ball around first and hustling for second. The throw in in safely gets a double and his second hit. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. Here’s the second baseman, Nick Gonzalez. Struck out swinging his first time. There’s the strike. The strategy of winning a ball game when you can make that pitcher work a little more, expose himself by throwing pitches. That could be the key to winning perhaps later on. So, good job of extending this inning, getting a knock with two outs to bring the number four hole hitter up. In the dirt, but kept close. No balls, two strikes. Runner at second. Two down here in the last half of the third. The other way and that’s down. A base hit now. A long throw home. It’s offline. The run comes in. It’s 2-1. comes through with the RBI. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean, those are the ones you dream about. Ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game. Right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity. Right on top of it. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Now, the left fielder Tommy Fan grounded out his first time up. And there’s the strike. [Applause] Two outs. Line drive. Base hit. Robert hustles it back in. Ruer puts on the brakes at second. So it’s first and second with two out. Couple of singles back to back. That pretty much split the zone down the middle. And those are the ones where you got to make them pay. First and second, two down. And now the center fielder, Jack Sinski, just off the outside edge. And that’s ball one. Well, he’s just given up three straight hits. And now behind in this count to this hitter. Might be a good time for somebody to call a timeout. Maybe the pitching coach to go out there and talk to him just a little bit. And another ball. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Gonzalez, the lead runner at second. Fan on at first with two down. And a strike on the outside edge. And down on strikes he goes. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. Two men left stranded, but they do push across one. Three innings complete. It’s the Pirates two and the White Socks one. Out of the fourth now. It’s the DH Andrew Beni. Andrew Benendi, check. Swing called strike. And that is strike one. You know, these White Socks doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only given up one run, but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. That one in the dirt now one and two. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Foul ball still a one and two count. out to short Connor Falefa. Throw pulls him off the bag and he’s saved. Now, that’s a play you expect your shorts stop to make pretty much every time. Pretty routine. Hard to tell if he didn’t get a great grip on it or the mechanics on him just broke down, but that gives this offense an extra out to work with. Luis Robert now went down on strikes his first time through and that one fouled off. White Socks down a run. [Applause] No, that’s a ball. And a count one and two. Good job to fight that one off. [Applause] swing and a fly ball. Well struck left field. Fam ranging back, pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there’s one down. Now batting first baseman Miguel Vargas. And next to hit for the Socks, Miguel Vargas. He’s 0 for one. Come on, you can do it. That’s outside. One and0. White Socks down a run. That one fouled off. That’s a ball. Went with the sweeper. And that’s outside. Fouls one away. And now three and two. Spoils a two strike pitch. They’ll see another 3-2 and ball four to a board. Now batting third baseman Coulson Montgomery. Coulson Montgomery steps to the plate for the White Socks. 0 for one so far. That one’s in there. Four and one. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Two on, one out. Close but called the ball and the count is one and one. One ball stays alive. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Sinski pulls it in on the run. Nothing instills more confidence in a team than a center fielder who makes a great play like that on the run. They can feed off the energy he brings just from his playmaking abilities. And up next for Chicago, Michael A. Taylor. A double and a run scored his first time up [Applause] to third. Slings it across. That’s out number three. White Socks strand a couple. They’re down two to one. Back here at PNC Park now. Batting Key Brian Hayes. Key Brian Hayes. First pitch just misses. You know, these Pirates showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. That one the other way and foul ball. Still relatively early, but with the pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. handles, throws to first and one gone in the fourth as they get the lead off. Man, he’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Now, here is Henry Davis flyed to right his first time. That one down the line. Has some trouble with it. No throw and they don’t get an out on the play. Now batting one gone runner first. Isaiah Kinder Fa up to the plate. Check on the runner and he dives back in safely. And the first offering is not close. [Music] runner. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes slice the other way. That’s a base hit. And they’ll have runners at the corners after a one out single. Up next for the Pirates. So the Pirates batting order turns over. Spencer Horitz the next Pirate to hit. And there’s the strike. [Music] [Applause] Ground ball could be two. Acrobatic throw for one. And that’s two. No runs, two hits, no errors, and one left. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the Pirates two and the White Socks one. Ready now for the fifth inning. Now here is Chase Maid in his rookie season. 23 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season. Right through there for a strike. You know, these White Socks looking to string together better at bats when they have runners on, but it just hasn’t happened for them yet. They only have one hit with runners in scoring position. So, a lot of squandered opportunities. It’s tough because those are moments you just can’t get back. Brings it in. One down. Austin Slater steps to the plate for the White Socks. A walk and he’s also singled. That’s a ball. One ball. No strikes. That’s a strike. The White Socks down by a run. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And there’s a strike on the outside corner. This guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. Next offering is down low two. [Applause] And that’s down and away. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up. If he’s walked one down, base is empty. Slow roller to third and it goes just foul 3-2 and down on strikes. So he picks up his six strike out of the ball game. Chris third time through the order and a couple of quick outs for the starter. Yeah, he’s been very frugal today. Economical with the pitch count. [Applause] Carol in the box again takes the strike. [Music] Hit in the air center field. Sinski makes the play and it’s out number three. Back here in Pittsburgh, we head to the bottom of the fifth. Here’s Cuts to the Dish. Andrew McCen. Savali back to work and that drops in for a strike. You know, these Pirates digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. It’s been one good swing after another and seven of their hits have been on line drives. That’s a lot of barrels. A lot of noise at the end. swinging a foul straight back. With all of those hard hits, the guys are going to love seeing the spray charts after this one. It’s clear they’re not just getting lucky up there right now. [Music] Well struck right field. See you later. his ninth homer of the year. And they add to their lead. It’s 3-1. [Applause] There was a cutter away. Kind of works like a slider. You got to stay on it. Let it travel a little bit and then get your arms extended. Really good piece of hitting right there. Now it’s the switch hitting outfielder Brian Reynolds. And first offering is fouled off. You just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. 02 fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Way inside. Well, the good thing so far is that he hasn’t issued any free passes. Unfortunately, they’re making pretty good contact. So, not getting the swings and misses and making that defense work behind it. swing and a ground ball out to short. Oh, great stop. Not in time. Great effort, but it’s an infield hit. The effort from both players involved in this play just really stands out to me. You got the diving stop at short, which was outstanding. And how can you not love the hustle flying down the line? That’s just great baseball at an extremely high level. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Aaron Savali is done and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. Now pitching for White Sox going with a new arm. Jonathan Cannon. Pretty tight game. So they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. So, a man aboard, Nick Gonzalez, the next to hit right through there for a strike. [Applause] in the dirt and a count even one and one. [Applause] Line drive. Sosa the throw to second. Not in time at first. It’s a fieldielder’s choice. Now batting left fielder. Here’s the left fielder, Tommy Fan. One for two. [Applause] went with the sweeper, but it misses. Movement for the White Socks in their bullpen. Steven Wilson appears to be getting ready, and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Alexander also throwing out of the ground to third onto second. They get one. What a double play that was. Getting over. Pirates tack on one more on the solo home run. It’s now a 3-1 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. And we’re back. Start of the six. John Shami with Chris Singleton and leading off Lennin Sosa Pirates. Come on. First pitch misses. Fast ball for a strike. [Applause] Fouls it off. Still one and two. swing and this one’s bounced on the ground. Gonzalez to first in time. Now one gone in the top of the six. Now that the designated hitter, Andrew Benendi, Andrew Benendi up to the plate. Bowl for two in this one. Check swing called strike and a foul ball. The Pirates leading by two and we’re in the top half of the sixth. And look out as that one ran in and got him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. And now here’s the big center fielder, Luis Robert. Let’s go. Swinging a foul out of play. Benitendi the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Cut on and lifted in the air. Reynolds snags it for the second out. Now batting the first baseman, Miguel Vargas. Miguel Vargas will hit next. It’s interesting. He plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well. So when you’re looking at that position, you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed, but he does. And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. What about him playing another position on defense? One that would require a little more range. Absolutely. And I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game, it’d surprise a lot of people. You might even be able to put him in center field. [Applause] Still two and two after the foul ball. [Music] Ball. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. Sit him down. 3-2 now. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Conor Falefa sizes this one up. Reaches for it, but it’s fouled. Up the middle and that one finds its way through. And they had their first hit since the third inning. And that’s a two out double. Nice and bad right there. Not just the result, but also seeing a lot of pitches really work out there on the mound. When you connect and it jumps off your bat like that, you’re thinking double at the very least. What a great swing on it. And man, he wasn’t fooled at all. Now a pretty big at bat coming up with a chance to even this ball game up. Derek Shelton out of the dugout and he will make the move. Mitch Keller done for the night. He exits with the lead and gave them a really nice performance. New pitcher on the bump when we get back. Now pitch Caleb Ferguson on a pitch out of the pen here. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to him. So digging in Coulson Montgomery [Applause] first pitch and he just misses. [Music] [Applause] Two on, two outs. And that one off the outside edge [Applause] and downstairs. Three ball. No strike. Two aboard, two outs. [Applause] That’s in there. And the count is three and one. Three ball. One strike. [Applause] That’s a strike. And he inches closer to getting out of the jam. [Applause] In the air on the infields gets there. He’s under it. And that’s the third out. So, a job well done from the Buckos bullpen. 678 do in the bottom of the sixth. It’s the Pirates three and the White Sox one. Bottom of the six. And now Jack Sinsky. Center fielder Jack Sinski. And that one hammered back there. That one is gone. A solo shot and they add a run. It’s 4-1. [Applause] Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle so when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. And here is Key Brian Hayes. swing and a ball lifted in the air. Robert moves under it. He’s got it and there’s one down. Pittsburgh doesn’t often get enough praise as a baseball town, but you think of all the greats who have been pirates like His Wagner, Willie Stargel, Roberto Clemente. It’s pretty amazing. Now, the catcher up to hit, Henry Davis, known for his rocket arm behind the plate. And talking about that Pittsburgh history, boo. Don’t forget the great Negro Leaguers of the Pittsburgh Crawfords and Homestead Grays. Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson, Cool Papa Bell, Oscar Charleston, Buck Leonard. The list just goes on and on. There’s the strike. One out. Base is empty and a run in here in the bottom of the six. just outside now one and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. And that is a good eye on a pitch down low. Two and two. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Two away. Now batting two out, space is empty. Up next for the Pirates, Isaiah Ker Falefa. [Applause] That’s in for a strike. And the sweeper is off the plate. [Applause] on the ground right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. One in the inning for the Pirates on this solo homer. It’s now 4-1. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark now. The left fielder, Michael A. Taylor. Bunch attempt but that goes foul [Music] out to short Connor Falefa not in time. An infield knock to start the inning. Well, that’s one of those where you just have to tip your cap because he couldn’t have played that one any better. Stood no chance with the speed running down the line. And now Chase Maid fast for a strike at 95. Now this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. And there’s a foul ball. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Rudder at first with no outs here. One, two in the dirt. The one two. Ball two. Straighten him up a little bit. back up the Oh, that got him. Still able to get it there in time. And that’s out number one on a tough play. Catcher coming out to check on him. It looked like it got him on his back leg. So, you’ll wonder if that might be a problem for him in terms of pushing off the rubber. Yeah, it’s a great point. And we’ll have to see how he looks, but to me it appears he’s moving pretty well. I think it’s just going to sting for a while, but hopefully nothing more. Manager out of the dugout, and he’s going to make a change. Caleb Ferguson gives way. It’s a three-run game. And we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Now, pitching number 47 gets the ball now. And he’s been fantastic this year. Really stingy in terms of allowing base runners. He’s just got great stuff that’s tough to square up. Now it’s the right fielder Austin Slater. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. And a foul ball man at second. Fouled off. He was late. That one ripped [Applause] and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases. The run comes in from second and now just a two-run deficit. Not in time. He’s safe. That’s a good job right there. Got two strikes on. You just got to battle. [Applause] [Applause] Edgar Carol now at the plate. One for three and that is out of play. [Applause] and ball one. One-1 with the tying run at the plate here in the top half of inning number seven. Next pitch is downstairs. [Music] [Applause] misses the zone and he gets him to chase. Well, those hitters count sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that. He’s got to get a better pitch to hit. Tying run at the plate. spoils that one and it remains two and two. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. And that one inside and it hit him. Now batting runners at the corners here. One away. And here is Sosa to the plate. Get on base here and keep building off this momentum. They’re getting closer, but they still got some work to do. that clips the corner [Applause] one. Way to lay off that pitch down. And a count one and two. Slater the runner at third. Carol over at first with one away. And that’s off the inside edge and the count’s even at two. [Applause] Fast ball is outside. At this point in the game, you cannot issue free passes. He’s going to have to challenge this hitter. Hitter’s got to be ready to swing it. Andrew Benendi in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And that’ll load the bases. Well, a breaking ball in that 32 count kind of tells you that that’s the pitch he has the most confidence in right now. Just couldn’t find the strike zone. And the Pirates manager making his way to the mound now as he will make the move. Number 47 won’t go any further and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now they go with one of their more experienced arms in this spot, Andrew Heane. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big RA. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. Ben and Tandy up here. Golden opportunity right here. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Boo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. On the ground to second, might be two. Good feed. That’s one. A one pitch double play out of the pin. Inning over. But they do get on the board in the inning on this runscoring triple. It’s now 42. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here at PNC Park ready to go for the last half of the inning. At the plate for Pittsburgh, Spencer Horowitz. And first offering is fouled off. That’s inside. Foul ball. That one misses and it’s two and two. [Music] on the ground right side. Steps on first for the out. Now batting designated hitter Andrew McCutchen. Here’s Andrew McCutchen to hit. He’s already homerred in this game. There’s the strike. Base is empty. One away here. The bottom of the seventh. Check swing and he went 0 and two. No balls. Two strikes. Good eye right there. [Music] Oh, he hit him. That got him. And that got him pretty flush. He had him one, two, and he ends up hitting him with a pitch. So, up next, Ryan Reynolds. Three for three with two singles and a double. And that one is downstairs. Ball one. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. fights that one away. Still one and two. Gets a piece and stays alive. [Applause] Come on, you can do it, Pirates. Let’s go. Next offering way off the plate. That was the sweeper, but it missed. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Grounder might be two. There’s one return throw to first. Got him. Double play and that’ll do it. So they go quietly there. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Pirates four and the White Socks two. Pirates with a new arm on the mound. Henis Cabrera. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. And now it’s Luis Robert 0 for three with two fly outs and a strike out. Centerielder Luis Robert Jr. Right through there for a strike. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Dennis Santana getting loose out there. Let’s go Pirates. Come on Pirates and that skips in the dirt and delivers outside. ball. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. Come on. The 3-1 Eddie Watton and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Now batting first base Miguel. So digging in Miguel Vargas. [Applause] Breaking ball misses down and away. [Applause] Run around to go. Pitch in for a strike. Throw. Save. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] The tying run at the plate. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Applause] Foul ball still a one and two count. [Music] Tying run at the plate. Fouls it off. Still one and two. hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Good late cut for the strike out there. That thing really got in on him. And you know, the cutter isn’t really a huge swing and miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. You’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact. But that one right there did a whole lot more than that. That was a really good pitch. Now at the plate, Coulson Montgomery with the tying run at the plate and we’re in the top of the eighth. [Applause] One ball, one strike, and a count one and two. Really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count and a ground ball to first and he takes it himself for the out. Well, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. A nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. And the Pirates manager making his way to the mound now as he will make the move. Henness Cabrera out of the game and he leaves a runner at third. So we’ll see how the next pitcher deals with that when we get back. Now, so the closer someone from the bullpen, Dennis Sant. And he may only have to face one batter in this spot. At least that’s what they’re hoping as he tries to strand that runner at third. Big spot here. White Sox making a move for pinch hitter Mike Tman. Well, they’re going with the lefty bat here. Boo. Trying to improve that matchup for a very important at bat in this game. [Applause] And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Two outs. Out to short. Connor Falefa sends it across the first. Topman is gone. That’s the third out. So, one left for the White Socks. Still down by a count of four to two. [Applause] Now pitching for now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Steven Wilson. Should be a good first match up for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. Now it’s the second base, Nick Gonzalez. Second base Wilson. 30 years old now and he was drafted in the eighth round back in 2018. Hit hard base hit and the leadoff man aboard now batting left field. So next to the plate for Pittsburgh Tommy Fan. First pitch not close. Gonzalez gets his lead at first. Nobody out. And another ball. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the hard of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. And it’s fouled away. And that’s downstairs and outside. Chris, with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. [Music] Three and two now. Strike three. Went back to the sweeper and got the strike out. Now that Jack Sinsky getting ready to hit. He’s already homered here in this one. And the first pitch misses for ball one. One ball, no strike. There’s the strike. 95 of that one there. Now two balls in a strike. Just missed. [Applause] And that one sliced foul. [Music] And they’ll do it again. He’s begging. Give me that pitch one more time. A hanging change up just out in front. And ball four, two aboard. Now batting third base. First and second, one out. Kebrien Hayes digs in now. [Music] That one finds the zone. Strike one. One ball. One strike. Runners at first and second with one gone here. The bottom half of the eighth inning inside just missed. Could use a ground ball here. Something in the infield. Runner at first base. Get two. Get out of this. Base knock right field. Here comes Gonzalez. The tag and he and they’re up by three. big at bat to pad their lead up to three. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Two on, one out. Here’s the Pirates catcher now, Henry Davis. Pitch misses there and that’s ball one. [Applause] Two on, one out. He swings and fouls one off. [Music] [Applause] So a foul ball makes it one and two. Runners at first and second with one gone. Swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes. Two down now. Batting short. Isaiah Ker Fo the next pirate to hit. Oh, bottom of the order here. Boog. going to go right after this guy as they look to pick up an add-on run. And the number nine guy at the plate and first offering is fouled off. Gets a swing and a miss with the sweeper. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. [Applause] comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt. Got him in over on the strike out. But they pick up one run on the RBI single. Last chance coming up here for the White Socks. All set to start the ninth in this one. And the batter now Chase MRO [Applause] ball one there. [Applause] Ground ball up the middle. Connor Falefa throws to first. Now one gone in the ninth. Good armside run to that same side hitter right there. Very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through it. Just pours in on the hands. The batter now Austin Slater [Applause] line to left coming on his fan to make the play. Now into the game, Mike Tman. He’ll be out in left field. So they’re down to their final out. And here’s the catcher, Edward Carol. Number 18, Mike Tman. [Music] First pitch misses. One ball, no strike. [Applause] Foul ball there. Two down to the White Socks down to their final strike. Got him. And that’s the ball game. Well, this was a total team effort using six pitchers in this ball game to get the win. Outstanding job of passing the baton. The next pitcher stepping up and getting it done. You got to give them a lot of credit cuz this is not easy to do. We’ll see how it affects them over the next couple of days. And your final score 52 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shambi saying so long. What the heat?
