🔴LIVE🔴Oakland Athletics VS Cleveland Guardians /July 19/ Envivo /MLB The show 25

If you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. Hello baseball fans and welcome Sunday Baseball on the show. It’s the Athletics taking on the Cleveland Guardians. First pitch coming your way next. So just about set now on the hill here today, Slade Sakone. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around. And we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. Lawrence Butler, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Let’s go Cleveland. And that one’s a little bit low. And it’s three and0. Well, I would expect in this three- 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you on the corner for a strike. And the count is three and one. Here’s a batter who for whatever reasons plays better on the road. And that should help him here today. And that’s too high. Ball four. And that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. And now here is Jacob Wilson swinging in a line drive, slicing into right field. That’s a hit. Runner holds it second. So, another base hit could get us the first run of the game. Oh, just a nice job coming through in a pretty high leverage spot right there. Fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So, no surprise he put a great swing on it. Now it’s the rookie first baseman Nick Curts. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. dives but it’s off his glove to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. Couple of singles back to back. Fielder got a piece of it but the way that thing came off the bat, no surprise at all. He couldn’t pick it cleanly. It’s a very difficult play and that swing definitely was deserving of a hit. Base is loaded. Nobody out. Next to hit Brent Rooker. Golden opportunity right here. Fought off foul. Curve in the dirt. You need a strikeout and you need a ball perhaps on the ground for a double play or get yourself a popup something. But you got to make some pitches. But if he can battle and get through this, he can earn some points. Grounded to third. Could be two. Steps on the bag for one. They get the out but the run scores on the Twin Killing. Tyler Sodstrom. Now the left fielder, Tyler Soderstrom. Chris, he’s definitely going to finish the year with a new careerhigh in homers. We just don’t know how many he’s going to hit quite yet. First pitch misses. There’s a strike. Curts at second with two down. Fouled off. He was late. And a swing and a miss. They limit the damage here. They get a run on two hits, no errors, and a man left. Bottom half of inning number one. Coming up, it’s the A’s one and the Guardians nothing. Back now at Progressive Field. Today’s starting pitcher, JP Sears. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Now, a screamer into the outfield and there’s one down. Here’s the Guardians lineup. Now, this an offense, Chris, that’s having a hard time scoring runs right now. Yeah, sometimes things just aren’t going to click and unfortunately what happens is players press, they try to do a little bit more and they get out of their game. You’ve got to let the game come to you. If you chase it, it’s going to run from you. So, this is a team that just needs to calm down, relax, and understand that they’re going to come out of this. David Fry batting with one down takes a strike. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. And now it’s even up. Really good take especially with two strikes and a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. That’s the second out. Here’s Jose Ramirez. Another solid power season. That one outside and it’s one and0. Two down. Nobody on swings through that. Nasty pitch right there. It’s two and two. Two out. Base is empty. Just off the inside edge. ripped on a line and he makes the catch and that will end the inning. Guardians fail to score. Still behind by a count of one to nothing. Top of the second and now here’s the A’s catcher Shay Langalers. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller. Good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. Sakone back to work. Fast for a strike. When you got a catcher like this guy with a big arm like that behind the plate, it really shuts down the running game. Swings and misses. That is strike two. When you have a catcher that can throw like that, a pitcher doesn’t have to worry as much about the slide step. He can keep his mechanics intact and have a better opportunity of getting that hitter out with a swing and miss. And that skips in the dirt. and a swing and a miss. One up, one down. Here’s Miguel and Duhar inside. Ball one. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Well, there’s a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see. And he guessed wrong right there. Nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end. One out. Base is empty. A change up missing. Two and two and delivers outside. swing in a ball hammered left field. That’s back and it hits the fence and he starts his afternoon off right with a double. Great effort out there as he tries to reach and haul this one in, but just can’t extend far enough. I think it started with a bad read off the bat which led to a bad jump, bad angle, and that cost him right there. Extra bases. So digging in Maxie and downstairs man at second. just missed. And there’s the automatic. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. And down on strikes he goes. That K is his third of the game. Oh, you got to be ready to swing the bat with a runner in scoring position in two strikes. Just put the ball in place somewhere and you got a chance. Very frustrating for him, I’m sure. See if the next guy can pick him up. Denzel Clark up next for the A’s. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the second. And ball one. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. just misses the mark outside the zone. Well, I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. And that’s in the dirt. Lawrence Butler next to bat for the A’s. Two outs and one in scoring position. swing and a miss. Struck him out. No runs, one hit, a double, no errors, and one man left. Now to the bottom of the second. It’s the A’s one and the Guardians nothing. Bottom of the second. And now it’s the switch hitter Carlos Santana. One of the rare guys at first base that you almost think defense first. He is that good with the glove. You’re talking about top of the list elite defensive first baseman to the left side, but it is well fouled. First baseman are involved in just about every single play. So when you have somebody so solid over there, uh you can breathe a little easier. That one not close. One and one. And that one missing low, misses inside, and that’s ball three. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. and he walked him and that’s their first base runner of the game. Now, here’s Nolan Jones. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. What you tell yourself is, I want to stay square to the plate, try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. misses again. Five in a row. And that’s off the inside edge. And it’s two and 0. Right through there for a strike. Back-to-back fast balls in. And that last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Swing and a miss. It’s two and two. Little bit low on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo. Jonathan Rodriguez in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Highf fly ball right field. This could go the distance home run. He sends it out of here and now they’re out in front. It’s 21. His plan was to hit the ball hard and he was going to figure out the rest later. You can’t argue with those results. When you have a team that hits home runs at such a high rate, they can get back in the ball game so quickly. That’s why that leadoff walk was extremely costly. Here’s the rookie right fielder, Jonathan Rodriguez. There’s the strike. Nobody on, nobody out. A pair of runs across in the inning. Bottom half of inning number two. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider swing and that ball smashed on the line. He won’t get there. That should be extra bases into second and he’s got a double. He was all over that one. Everything was mechanically sound with that swing right there. I mean, that’s pretty much what you’re wanting to replicate with every rep you take. You want good balance, barrel directly to the baseball, and good long extension after contact out in front of home plate. Man, there are a lot of doubles in a swing like that. Here’s Will Wilson. Went with the sweeper, but it misses. for your pitch. Cleveland up a run looking for more. Hit pretty well in the air out to center. Clark sizes this one up. He’s there. He’s got it. Runner tags at second and he’s in safely at third with one out. batting eight catcher Bo Naylor. Bo Naylor at the plate now. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. And that one fouled off. Rodriguez stands at third with one gone in the inning on the ground to the left. Sends it to first now. Two away as they get a run across. So important to really lock in on an at bat like this. It seems easy with the infield back, but you’ve got to make sure you put the ball in play. Put it on the ground. Brought that run in. Here’s Brian Rochio. and Roio. And there’s a ball. Swings through that one out in front that time. Clips the corner. One and two. That’s down and in. And it remains two and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Two outs. Spoils that one. And it remains two and two. Line drive and a base hit right there. So the two out knock extends the inning and sends them back to the top of the order. So the Guardians lineup turns over. Digging in Anel Martinez and that one in the air center field. Clark puts it away and that is that. Three runs for him here and they move ahead. We play two full Guardians three and the A’s won. All set for the start of the inning. Now it’s the DH Lawrence Butler. Butler Butler goes 6′ 3 in 210 lbs. And he’s usually in the outfield. Today he’s the DH. Swang and a miss. There’s that change up. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swing and a miss for the strike out. Naylor throws to first in time. Leadoff hitter gone in the third. Jacob Wilson up next for the A’s. Wilson having a really nice first season in the big leagues. Definitely a Rookie of the Year candidate. A rope into right and that’s a base hit. So a man aboard now with one away. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean those are the ones you dream about. The ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game. Right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity. Right on top of it. One gone runner at first. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. Reached on an infield single his first time. Drilled in the air high and deep right field. That’s back there. Tattooed to Tater Town and gone. He nails one out to right and we’re level. It’s 33. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. He got his front foot down. He was strong on his backside. And when his bat went through the zone, there’s no question that ball was going to travel out of the ballpark. But that’s if you were putting a tape together positive to watch. That’s it right there. Just a perfect swing. Brooker stands in here, takes ball one low in there at the knees for a strike. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Hunter Gatis preparing to come on if needed. Allard getting cranked up as well. Still only one out here in the inning. and a ball in two strikes. Cut on and miss. Struck him out. So he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast ball. And I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location. We found a way to just get it by him. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstrom. Climb the ladder with that fast ball. Strike one. Misses the zone and he gets him to chase. More and more guys are looking to slug regardless of the count and this situation will keep a close eye on his approach. Cleveland just missing there and it’s one and two. Tough to take a two strike change up that just missed. I think it froze him. That one 95 to finish him off. But two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. We’re tied now at three apiece. ready to go for the last half of the inning. Stepping up for the Guardians, David Fry. Fry. All right, Singy. Trivia time. Back when this ballpark opened 1994, one future Hall of Famer hit the first triple in the park and another hit the first homer by a Cleveland player. Think you know who they were? Okay, I know that Ken Griffy Jr. hit the first triple here, but first homer for Cleveland. Give me a hint. Switch hitter. That’s all you’re getting. Oh, dude. Eddie Murray, no doubt. Bam. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Now, it’s Jose Ramirez. He’s 0 for one. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Oh, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it. Right on time, good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. Here comes the skipper. And we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. JP Sears done for the afternoon. And it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Number 49 into the game. He’s been so good against lefties. First and second, no outs. Carlos Santana digs in for the Guardians. worked a walk in his first trip to the plate and fouled off the pitch. That’s a little bit low. Next pitch is outside. Fry at second. Ramirez on at first with nobody out. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches. Still able to make some type of contact. The 2-2 knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Inside three into the cow. Nolan Jones in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Quite the matchup we’re seeing here. Six foul balls in this atbat alone. Really making them work out there. Foul ball and it remains a full count. And that’ll load the bases. Oh, he earned his trip to first right there. It’s not easy laying off pitches that just miss the zone like that. And it’s a real discipline as well. He’s put a lot of work into that aspect of his game and it paid off right there. Jones in the box now. Takes strike one. Well, this is a tough situation with the bases loaded, but the healthiest mindset is just try to get outs one hitter at a time. That’s ripped into the outfield. One hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. One runs in the relay throw. It’s offline and he scores and they lead by three. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Runner in scoring position, no outs. And up next for Cleveland, Jonathan Rodriguez doubled in his first AB. That’s inside. Ball one. You and I got a chance to broadcast the 2019 All-Star game and the city of Cleveland did such a great job. I felt like wherever you turned, there was some type of ad for the All-Star game. A face of one of the players playing in the game. Thought the city overall supported the event really well. And that misses and the count is two and0. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Justin Sterner up and throwing. Lopez the lefty warming up as well. No outs. Runner on second. Check on the runner and he’s back in easily. Yeah, and I think the players backed it up from the home run derby and the show that was put on between, you know, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Pete Alonzo, and others. It was off the charts and then the game is always special. When you see the best in baseball, you remember how special this game is. And to be here at this ballpark, um, I think just was the icing on the cake. They all just came apart right there. four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. Here’s the second baseman. Will Wilson fly to center his first time and a pop off right side foul territory. Fielding for the wall makes the catch and foul ground. Now batting catcher bone nailer. And here’s the catcher bone nailer. And Chris, his big strength is defense. But it is interesting in today’s world of baseball compared to when you played. A good defensive catcher is considered differently. Whatever you dives and he can’t hang on. No throw. And that loads the bases. Now that Brian Rochio digs in for the Guardians, one for one with a single so far. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. I think the other component is putting down the finger that the pitcher wants to throw and being on the same page. And that’s something that this guy does really well. Gets in sync with his pitchers. Next one misses. And now 2 and 0. Boo. His preparation is off the charts. I was down in the clubhouse today trying to find him just to pick his brain a little bit. He’s so buried in that video room. It’s hard to get a chance to talk to him. One out. Base is full. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Late swing fouled to the left. That is ball four. And that’ll bring home a run. really gotten himself into a mess out there and now forces home a run with the wall. This innings definitely getting away from him. Back to the top of the lineup, here’s the Cleveland leadoff hitter, Anel Martinez. Full for two in this one. Breaking ball through there for a strike. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. This one is blasted. A no doubter grand slam. A gigantic blast and they boost their lead. It’s 113. You know, more than a 100 grand slams are hit every season in baseball, but they’re still exciting every single time. a great job here of staying within himself. You know that if you get a knock, you’re going to drive in a couple, so stay focused on that. Well, he does more than just a knock. Hits the grand slam to drive in four. Really good job at the plate. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Number 49 will depart. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. Number 50 gets the ball now. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score. Now it’s the Guardians DH David Fry that misses. one and 0. Highf fly ball pretty well struck out towards right center and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases around second now. Going for three and he’s got himself a triple. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Put a really nice balanced swing on it. And when you can rope one into the gap like that, you’re thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box and he’ll feel real good about that one. Jose Ramirez digs in for the Guardians. One for two. Swings through that one for strike one. Part of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. That one missed. just missed. Fry takes his lead at third with one away. That one at the knees for a strike. Really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door. That pitch is devastating in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate. And he swings and lifts one to deep center field. And that ball is out of here. Oh, muscle to center field. It’s their second home run of the inning and they add a pair. It’s 133. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. One down. So, next will be the fourhole hitter for the Guardians, Carlos Santana. That one way outside and that is ball one. And a foul ball. Can’t love it cleanly. Still manages a throw and they get the out. Good recovery. Wasn’t easy following the misplay. Nolan Jones. So in now for Cleveland. Nolan Jones. He’s already homerred here in this one. outside and it’s one and0 right through there for a strike. That one pushed to the left and fouled. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Two down. Nobody on down to the dirt. Swing and a miss. Up with it. Fires to first in time. So the drop third strike doesn’t hurt him. And that’s that. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. On to inning number four. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. This game’s a bit of a blowout. Singy, let’s talk about something random. Let’s do it. All right, Singy. We’ve been in all the press boxes. You got best press box food. Uh, I say press box food because of the ice cream. We have Philadelphia. Shout out to our guy Frank. Yes. Uh, New York for me is pretty good. Yankees. Yeah. Solid. Yeah. Hammers that one deep left field and forget it. He’ll touch them all. It’s 134. He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrists to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the loft, and gets the home run. manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the Guardians bullpen. Slade Sakonei is done and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. The Guardians going with a new pitcher Tanner by coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Now the third baseman Miguel Anduhar swing and a popup foul territory for the catcher. Naylor makes the catch and there’s one gone. Now batting second base Maxy. Max my up next for the A’s. Went down on strikes his first time through. As far as ballpark food, one of my favorite places is San Francisco. Garlic fries. Yo, garlic fries. And you got the lobster roll out there in the outfield if you want to make the walk. This one swung on and hit well way back there. That one is gone. A shot to the opposite field. Second home run of the inning for him. It’s 135. That’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap. And you know, there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that and probably just as many who don’t have the approach either. He let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here. So, one out, nobody on. And now here’s a speed threat outfielder Denzel Clark that clips the inside corner for a strike. What do we got? The crab fries in Philadelphia. Is that right? Yep. And then it’s been a long time for me. Boogs barbecue at Oriel Park. I knew you’d go there. That’s right. Yeah. Anyway, you can work in your name, huh? That’s right. One down, base is empty. And that one a little below the knees. And it’s a ball and a strike. Ground ball right side and foul ball. And now the count is even. Swing and a hard hit grounder to third. And that’s a fair ball. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly and he’ll reach second with one away. Now batting just found a way to slap that ball down the third baseline. That’s really excellent back control. And it kind of goes back to all those drills you see hitters do off the tee where it’s placed in different spots. That was just nice. So the lineup flips over next to hit Lawrence Butler. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Come on. And it goes just foul. One out and a runner at second. This one lifted in the air left field. Jones pulls it down and there’s two gone. Now batting number five. Now the number two hitter Jacob Wilson. He’s two for two. blind into right and there’s a hit coming home. He will score. It’s an RBI single. 13-6. Comes through with the RBI. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. He’s already homerred in this game and a strike. When you’re taking your lead over there at first, you got to be very careful. This guy on the mountain’s got a good pickoff move. Wilson off of first with two away. Swing and a ball ripped right field. That one back and that one is gone. Another homer. He’s done it again. His second homer of the game. And they cut into the deficit. It’s 138. Get as many high fives as possible. Man, this guy’s a ball of energy right now and having the game of his life. manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Tanner Bbeby done for the day. And as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. Hunter Gatis comes on now and he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one an inning, so he’ll be tough to get to. So here’s the cleanup hitter, Brent Rooker. first offering and it just misses. And another ball 20 count. You really don’t want to give in here. You got to work the edges. Really execute a pitch. Hopefully you can get back into this count. hammered down the right side but foul. Cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. So they score five times in the inning but still have plenty of work to do. And midway in the fourth, the Guardians lead it 138. here in Cleveland. Leading off, Jonathan Rodriguez. Jonathan Rodriguez. And there’s the strike. Oh, that’s that slurf right there. He threw it extremely well. You talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to. And a swing and a miss there. Ball one there in the dirt. Two balls, two strikes. fights it off. He’ll see another. Still two and two after the foul ball. And that’s downstairs and outside. swing and a miss and he got him. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Now it’s the second baseman, Will Wilson. Just missed. Swing and a miss and the count one at one. Swing and a highf fly ball to left. Sodstrom under it. Hauls it in for the out. And there’s two away. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Naylor stands in now. Looks at that one inside. Not even close there. And the count two and one. That one fouled off outside with a breaking ball. gets a piece and stays alive. Two outs. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Grinding AB right here. About to see pitch number 10. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Bell having such a tough time putting him away. Six foul balls in a row. Man, what a battle. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Nothing doing here this half. Onto the top of the fifth we go. Guardians on top 138. Back here in Cleveland, top five. John Shabi with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Tyler Soderstrom, Cleveland. There’s the strike. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time into left center for a base hit. And the leadoff man aboard. Boo. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langelers. Swinging a highf fly ball deep left field. That’s back. Going gone. He circles the bases. his second home run of the game. And they close the gap. It’s 1310. That’s their fifth homer of the game. Man, they’re all getting into the action. It’s starting to feel like a home run derby up here. When a guy’s got a real hard fast ball, you can’t overswing. All you’ve got to do is get the bat head to the spot. If you do, he supplies the power and you’ll get to jog around the bases like he did right there. manager out of the dugout now and he will make a move to dip into the Guardians bullpen. Hunter Gatis won’t go any further. It’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. They turn things over to the southpaw Kobby Allard and he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. Miguel Anduhar getting ready to hit and that is downstairs and that’s ball one. Hey partner, how’s your scorecard looking right now? Little dicey kind of hieroglyphics style at the moment. You know what it’s like singing remember our trip to London Yankees and Red Sox in 2019? I think there were there 50 runs scored in the two games combined. My scorecard was ugly for that series. Hauls it in. One away. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Next up for the A’s, Max. And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. Yeah, pretty ridiculous. And you use like five different colors of pins, so like it’s just a mosaic over there. Yeah, I mean I I know you’re always judging the This one’s into the outfield. Could be extra bases. Now he’ll turn for second. Not stopping. He’s going for three. And he’ll make it into third with a triple. Now batting the center fielder Zenzel Clark. One down, runner at third. And now the center fielder, Denzel Clark. Line to left and foul ball. Muny stands at third with one gone in the inning. Pitch is in there and it’s 0 and two. Back door him with a breaking ball. Just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that. Good eye in that spot. And that just misses. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. Got him looking. Two gone. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone now. A blast to left center way back there. On its way out of here. That one felt good. It’s their second home run of the inning. And they throw a pair on the board. It’s 1312. They needed that one, Singy. Indeed they did. They’ve been fighting to get back into this game and just like that, they’re back in it. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Two outs, nobody on. Jacob Wilson digs in now. Three for three with three singles. There’s the strike up high. Going one, looking to get the tying run on base. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. up the middle. Wilson handles, throws to first, and they’re happy to just get off the field after that frame. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. Last half of the fifth coming up. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound, Oswaldo Beo. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra. So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. Stepping up for the Guardians, Brian Rochio. Well, both sides equally as strong, so not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. You know, these Guardians digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. Everything seems to be clicking and the six extra base hits in the game kind of tells you everything you need to know. They’re not getting fooled up there at all. Blows the high heat past him. That’s a strike out. Now, Anel Martineziel Martinez. That’s in for a strike. Now, just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. Off the mark there now. One and two. And that skips in the dirt on the ground right side. Takes it himself. Old man for the fifth inning. Moving along. Two quick outs. Now batting the designated hitter David. Two outs. Base is empty. Next is the designated hitter, David Fry. Line drive, base hit, and that keeps the inning alive. Jose Ramirez digs in for the Guardians. He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. That’s outside ball one. Singi, one of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you think of that as plus value? Absolutely. If he’s doing damage now, if he’s rolling over and and grounding out, then it’s a different story. But yeah, if he could put the ball in the gaps or over the fence, 100%. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. That’s hard hit in a line. Sodrom pulls it down and that ends the inning. Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Emanuel Class. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season, so this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. He’s got a couple homers already, so can he possibly do it again? Come on, man. Of course he can. And those two he hit were legit. And he looks pretty locked in right now at the dish. Popped up foul territory behind the plate. He’s under it. Brings it in. And there’s one away. That was a good hard fast ball with some nice ride up in the zone right there. Hitter looked like he was on it, but I think that velocity at the end just beat him. Instead of a line drive or something hit deep, it’s a pop up and an easy out for the defense. Rooker in the box now. Takes strike one. Pretty rare location right there. Right down the middle. This guy paints the edges. I’m not sure if you’re going to see that pitch again as a hitter. There’s the swing and a miss. I guess you throw it that hard, you can get away with locations like that. Right down the middle, but I still think it’s a dangerous pitch. Don’t want to do it again. Battling here as he fouls it away. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. The A’s down to their final hour. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. So, it’s their last chance in this one. And here is Tyler Soderstrom. One for three. That one ripped but fouled. Let’s go Cleveland, popped up left side, and that’ll do it. The Guardians slug their way to a win in this one. After four wins in a row, you start to think a little bit that you’re on a roll. And that’s the momentum that just takes on a life of its own. Players start hitting up and down the lineup. Never know who’s going to come up with the big hit, who’s going to come out of the bullpen and get the big outs. But it’s a good feeling and you want to extend it. 1312 is how this one ends. They hang on to win it by a run for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
