MLB LIVE🔴 Philadelphia Phillies vs Los Angeles Angels – Jul 20, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
and welcome into the ballpark. Happy to have you with us. Inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the Los Angeles Angels taking on the Philadelphia Phillies. And now, please welcome your and we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. Safia Philly just about set to go. And on the mound today, a guy who will give them innings, Christopher Sanchez. And Singi, he likes pitching at home. Well, truly for him, there is no place like home. He’s been so dominant here. And as a teammate, you expect him when pitching at home this year to go out and dominate just as he has. The fans expect it. I think everyone around here knows that he’s a good pitcher. Even though we don’t see the same splits on the road, we’re going to start to see that translate as well. Zack Neto, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball. And that is out of play. Swinging a ground ball. Sosa whips it across and an easy out to start the game. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup. Not a whole lot going their way offensively the last few games, Chris. Yeah, Booan. That can put more pressure on the pitching staff to try to limit the opponent to just one or two runs a game knowing that their offense is not scoring right now. And that never really works well because you try to be too fine and you end up giving up a lot of runs. So, we’ll see if everybody can just relax, bring things together, and perform at a level that they’re capable of. Nolan Showell in now takes ball one off the plate. One out, base is empty. There’s a swing and a drive. Castillanos ranges back out of here. He’ll touch them all. And just like that, they’re out front. It’s one- nothing. That’s a fun way to take the lead. Just hit one out of the park. Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage, even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one. Nice piece of hitting there at the plate. And now batting Mike Trout. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Part of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. That one at the knees for a strike. Slow roller up the middle. Stop. Now the throw to first on the run. Quick recovery from the misplay pays off for the out. Well, I’m impressed with this guy’s internal clock. He knew he had plenty of time to take that extra step, secure his grip on the baseball, and make a strong, accurate throw. Two down, base is empty. Here’s the left fielder, Taylor Ward. Sinker gets the bottom of the zone and that’s a strike. Two out, bases empty. Next offering is fouled back. The pitch gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And they’ll do it again. And now one and two. Excellent arm action on that two strike change up. Just missed. Man, he wanted that call. Hard ground ball base now. And that extends the inning. batting fifth centerfield. Here’s Joe Adel. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. That misses the zone. Ball one. Counts one and0. Ward the runner at first with two gone. That one finds the zone and it’s one and two. Kelly left that change up. Got away with one there and he’ll take it but doesn’t want to make that mistake again. Caught it looking for the K. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here with my pal Singi. And on the mound today, Jake Eater. How about a scouting report on him? Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Kyle Schwarber, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Schwarber working on a massive campaign right now. Putting up some big home run numbers. That one the other way and a base hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Trey Turner now. There’s the strike up high. Going one. Well, we’ve seen him flex some impressive power this season and there’s still a lot of time to go. If he can keep up this pace he’s on, we could be in for something really special. That misses. One ball, one strike. Nobody out. Runner of first. The shorts stop takes a ball. We got full count in the dirt. Rudder at first with no outs here. Ground ball could be two. Neto for one over to first seat. Betting third, first baseman Bryce Harper. So here is Bryce Harper. Let’s go. Step off throw to first and Turner’s back in. Turner runs center field. Adele makes the grab for the second out. Betty for right fielder. Okay, time now for the Phillies lineup. Someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs. Trey Turner tops on the team in batting average. Boo. A guy who’s showing off some excellent bat-to ball ability when he digs in at the plate. You know, that’s useful if your team needs to get an inning going, get a leadoff man on. But it’s also incredible to have a guy like that in the lineup because he’s a run producer who can drive in runs if you’ve got guys on base already. So he’s a huge piece in this lineup. Nick Castanos in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. now back is against the wall. He’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. Fights it off. He’ll see another outside low now. One and two. And there’s a ball now. Snap throw to first and Turner’s back in. Swings through it and that’s a strikeout. One left for Philadelphia. They’re down one- nothing back here. Citizens Bank Park. Here is Mona. Sanchez back to work. And that one clips the corner off the mark there and the count is one and one. Dave Lawrence behind the plate today. Consistent and pretty accurate with the balls and strikes. Yeah, he’s one of those guys, Spook, that just keeps the game moving. Nothing overly unique about the strike zone that he calls and as a result he’s appreciated by both sides. Check swing called strike. Chris, do players ever change their approach in meaningful ways based on who’s umpiring or is it good to just be aware of tendencies so you’re not that surprised? I’d say the latter because pitchers got to pitch to his strengths regardless. The hitters got to hit to his strength. So you’re aware of it, but you have to just hunt for what you can handle. Here’s the Angels catcher, Logan Ohappy. And first offering is fouled off. Here’s a chopper to short. Turner and a couple of quick outs. Betting eight. Right fielder Lamont Wade Jr. Two outs. Base is empty. Here’s Lamont Wade Jr. All right, let’s do it. Bounced up the middle. stop over to first and it’s a one two three inning. So they make short work of him there. Now to the bottom of the second, it’s the Angels one and the Phillies nothing. Bottom of the inning and digging in for Philadelphia. JT Real Muto JT Re fast is outside. Fast ball for a strike. That one down the line and it goes just foul. He’s begging. Give me that pitch one more time. A hanging change up just out in front. That one is upstairs. In the air left field down the line. That one gets down for a hit. So a man on base to start the inning. 36 second base. that a lot of times you’ll see the short stop or left fielder be able to get to if it hangs up in the air long enough. But right there, it just died and found a way to drop in on the green stuff for the base hit. Let’s keep it going. Fought off. Foul. Real MO on at first. Nobody out. Got the bat going too soon. Strike two with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay in the double play right here and foul ball. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Nice grab. Off balance feed. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. batting seven. Designated hitter number four. Here’s the Phillies DH. That’s in there. One. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. Runner on the go. That one is absolutely belted. out of here. His second of the year and the Phillies take the lead. It’s 2-1. His plan was to hit the ball hard and he was going to figure out the rest later. You can’t argue with those results. That’s exactly the pitch he was looking for. Crushes it and hits it out of the ballpark. Brandon Marsh steps to the plate and the first pitch fast is in for a strike. Still only one out here in the inning. That one pushed to the left and fouled. That misses the zone and the count one and two. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there if you’re smart. But look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. Got him. Dave Lawrence rings him up. Committed to that breaking ball just a little too much and couldn’t pull the bat back in time. Oh, once you get it going, it can be so tough to stop the momentum of that barrel. Good pitch. Had him fooled. And a foul ball. Missed with a change up and the count even. One and one. Base is empty. Two away, but two runs are in at bottom half of inning number two. And he grounds one to the right side. Gets it to first. That’s the inning. But the Phils get two on this blast. And this is now a 2-1 ball game. Ed, welcome back to the ballpark. All set for the start of the unit. So in now for the Angels, Luis Reanifo. Ranifo starting up the middle at second, hitting ninth in today’s lineup. And he was born in Venezuela. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. That’s the strike. This guy at the dish excels in two strike counts. Got to be careful with him out there on the mound. And he hits a ground ball right side, sends it to first. Leadoff man retired here in the third. Now batting shortstop, Zack Neto. Back to the top of the Angels lineup. And next for LA, Zack Neto. He’s 0 for one. Philadelphia. That pitch clips the outside corner. It’s 0 and one. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. A change up missing and now it’s even one and one. That’s ball two right through there for a strike. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You kick mini like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there in the mound. One down, base is empty. Line drive and foul ball. Blind drive and that’s a base hit out into center field. Got to love the resiliency shown in that bat. battling with two strikes. I could watch base hits like that one all day long and so could every hitting coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. And next for the Angels, Nolan Showell. He’s already homerred here in this one. That one misses ball one. and another ball. Not showing great command so far in this at bat. 20 count. He’s got to execute here or this could get ugly. Inside ball and ball four two aboard. Perfect. That just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging something out of his own. Two on, one out. Now Trout gets a chance to hit. Great speed and great power. A great athlete quite simply. When you have a real athletic player and who’s able to do the baseball mechanical things really well, look out because the sky’s is the limit on that potential. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. One ball. This one in the dirt, but no advance from the runners. way outside and it’s two and two and no one can get there heading for the plate. He will score and the Angels even it up as the go-ahad runner pulls up at third. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. So now the Angel cleanup hitter, Taylor Ward, one for one with a single so far. That one inside and that’s ball one. This is a great dynamic right here. Speedy runner at first, thinking about taking second. Catcher with the pop time that leaves Jaws on the floor. This might get interesting. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. He’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam. Late swing fouled off. I think ultimately you want to tie him up. Get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. Two on, one out. fights that one away. Still one and two. And that’s outside. Two strikes. Tied up here in the early going. Swang at a highf fly ball. Well struck. That’s back there. And it bangs off the out of town scoreboard. One runs in. Castilliano whipss it back in. Runner holds it third. So just one across on the play. A perfect example right there. That plate discipline, it pays off. The deeper he gets into account, the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle. So two in scoring position with one out. Stepping in the long ball threat, Joe Adell. There’s the strike. Just missed. Stirring in the Phillies bullpen. Ranger Suarez getting ready to go. Robert getting loose as well. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. The next pitch misses. The countdown two and two. swings through that one. It’s a strike out. And now Yan Mona, he’s 0 for one. And that’s in for a strike. When you’re struggling out there on the mound, hitters know that there’ll be plenty of opportunities within the at bat to try to get something to hit hard. Oh, one down. Just missed. Ground ball left side. Base hit. One run is in. rounds third headed for the plate. The run comes in to score from second and he’s out. Cut down and that ends the inning. So they move out in front after a fourr run outburst. We head now to the home half of inning number three. Angels five and the Phillies two. And we’re back set for the bottom of the third. Here’s a big power threat. Kyle Schwarber on the corner for a strike. 0 and one. tried to hold up on the 02. Now a look down to third and Matthew Ross right on it. Says he held up. That one missed. Two strikes. Stays alive. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. Swing and a ball popped in the air. Needto calls it in and there’s one away. Up next for the Phillies, shortstop, Trey Turner. Here’s Trey Turner. Foul ball one off the plate. Ball one on the ground and that’s just foul. And a curve is down and in. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Oh, I’m not sure what he was waiting on right there. He got the change up and still late on it. You rarely see that. It almost makes you think that he was trying to set the pitcher up. I mean, if you can’t catch up to the off speed stuff, there’s no way you’re going to touch a fast ball. And that one pulled foul to the right side, finds its way through base hit and that keeps the inning going. Now batting Nick Castanos at the plate now. Struck out swinging his first time. Snap throw to first. Harper’s back at a dive. I think you want to get a one-way lead. Be very aggressive in the secondary. This hitter not a power guy. So you want to make sure that you can get some length on the secondary lead and perhaps score on a ball in the gap. Two outs. That clips the inside corner for a strike. 02 count. Both pitches on the inside part of the plate. Hitter is thinking, I don’t want to get beat here. This is a good time for something off speed away. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Harper off of first with two away in the air left field down the line and just foul. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. And it’s one and two. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. Gets a piece and stays alive. fouled off and they’ll do it again. Pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss. Third foul ball in a row. There’s a line drive to left field. Ward puts it away and the inning is over. One hit, one left. On to inning number four. Angels five and the Phillies two. Back here in Philadelphia, John Shambi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Logan Ohappy. ripped on the ground to second over to first in time. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. Up next for the Angels, right fielder Lamont Wade. So here’s Wade now. Phillies, come on. Ball one to the right fielder in the air. Left field down the line and that drops foul. And that one lifted in the air center field. Schwarber settles under it. That’s out number two. Now batting second base, Luis Rehifo. Here’s the second base, Luis Reano. Clips the corner. Strike one. just missed. Out to short. Turner tosses to first and that’ll do it. And the Angels are gone in order. And it remains 5-2. Ready to go. Bottom four. And now the catcher comes up to him. JT Real Mutot Real Muto and first offering is fouled off. You know these Phils doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count and they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well on the ground out to short and Real Mutil is out. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. This is Bryson stop for one. He hit into a fieldielder’s choice his first time. on the ground to third. Mona sends it across to first. Already two gone here in the home fourth. Good fade and sinking action of that change up. Got that hitter to roll over. Two down, base is empty. And next is the designated hitter. He’s already homerred in this game. And first off is fouled off. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. He swings and drives one out to deep left field and it hits the fence. Now he’ll turn for second in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. He was all over that one. Anytime you smoke a ball off the wall, you kind of think about what it could have been, but obviously you have to be happy with that result. So, runner at second, two down. Next to hit, Brandon March. to the right side, fires to first on the run and they get the out. So a two out double, but they don’t score. We’ve played four, Angels five, and the Phillies two. Now pitching. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Ranger Suarez just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Back to the top of the lineup. Now it’s the Angels lead off man. Zack Neto one for two. And first off is fouled off. You know, these Angels really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one. It’s been fun getting a chance to see them go to work. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Foul ball there and that’s ruled the swing. It’s a strikeout. Well, they clearly didn’t recognize that curveball out of the hand and tried to check the swing. Just went around too far and you’re hoping the umpire maybe missed it and they bail you out. Now the number two hitter Nolan Shanowell. First pitch just misses. Base is empty, one away. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And now two and nothing. Out of the ground to third. Jump throw and he’ll be safe at first. Now batting the designated hitter, Mike Trout. designated hitter Mike Trout and that’s in there at the knees. Shadowwell stands at first with one out. That one finds the zone. That’s strike two. But he’s gotten ahead with two pitches down in the zone. He has plenty of options right here. He can go up. He can go away. He can add velocity. He can subtract. And he’ll shoot two. Good job to fight that one off. In the dirt. popped up. Turner should have it. Pulls it down and there’s two gone. Up next for the Angels, left fielder Taylor Ward. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Taylor Ward. drove it off the wall last time. Just missed out on a home run outside corner. There’s a strike. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. And there’s a foul ball. So glad these ballparks have installed the netting to protect the fans, keep things safer all around the league. Ball one there. on the ground to short. Trey Turner gloves it. That’s a third out. Angels lead one. They’re still out in front. 5-2. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And now for the Phillies. Edmundo Sosa. Edmundo Sosa. Eater back to work. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. Well, these Phillies digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They’ve been lining the ball all over the ballpark and unfortunately sometimes it’s right into a glove. But still they’ve hit nine line drives so far and that’s something they should feel very good about. Hit in the air center field. Adele sizes this one up. Makes the catch for the out. Speaking of those line drives, you can’t get too discouraged when they don’t drop in for you. It’s important to remember that you pretty much did everything right. And that’s just baseball sometimes. So the Philly batting order turns over and Kyle Schwarber will come up. Swinging a foul out of play. Swings and misses. Oh, with two down. Two strikes. And that’s outside. Two pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back into this at bat. The Phils trailing by three. Last half of inning number five. Got him. He’s notched four strikeouts. Now up next for the Phillies, here’s Turner now with two in this one. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Oh, he’s got to be pretty proud of this outing so far. Sometimes guys cower coming into a ballpark like this, but he has attacked hitters. Pitching on the road like this is very impressive. This has been a treat to watch. I got one ball, one strike. Swinging a line drive and a base hit up the middle. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Now batting first base. Here’s Harper. Harper. Step off. Throw to first and Turner’s back in. Ball one to Bryce. The two-hole hitter showing so much versatility, understanding the situation, gets on base with two out to bring possibly the best hitters in this lineup to the plate in this inning. Two high. Chris, with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. That one misses. Ball three. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. Two outs. Come on. Fouled off left side. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. The hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. Philly strand one. They trail at 52 back here in Philadelphia. And now it’s going to be Joe Adele. With this kind of lead, he can swing freely, try to hit the ball out of the park, do what he loves to do. Suarez in his sixth season. He features a sinker, a curb, a four seamer, a change up, and occasionally uses a cutter. Next offering is in for a strike. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, that skips in the dirt. One ball, two strikes. The count and that’s in the count. on the ground just for a base hit. Now he turns and heads for second. The throw in. Not in time. That’s a leadoff double. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it. Right on time. Good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Here is Yoan Monata. And that one fouled off. and Pauly. The one-1 is fouled off. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. Outside low and now two balls and two strikes. Finish him. And that one is lifted in the air. Castanos moves on it. He’s got it. Runner tags at second and he makes it up to third with one away. Up next for the Angels, catcher Logan Ohappy. Logan Ohappy now at the plate. He’s grounded out a couple of times. I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone here. Pitchers looking for a strikeout or a ground ball, hoping to keep that runner at third. And the first pitch misses for ball one. and downstairs. Two balls, no strikes. And another ball. Hey, one away with a runner at third and ball four to a board. I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow. Now batting right fielder Lamont Wade Jr. Runners at the corners here. One away. The man they call late night Lamont steps in. And that’s in the dirt. And that is ball one. In this situation, the batter’s got to know what the pitcher is trying to do to him. And that’s trying to get him to hit the ball on the ground. Get two for one. Got to look for something. Runner on the go. Back to right. Lunges for it, but it drops for a hit. The run scores from third. It’s 62. Not in time. He’s safe. Second baseman Luis Reno. Two on, one out. Luis Renifo gets a chance to hit here. Has grounded out a couple of times. Swinging a foul straight back. Puts it in the air out towards left center. Marsh on the move. Squeezes it. Runner tagging and heading for hold. He’s in on the sacrifice fly and the lead is up to five. Yes, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. So in now for the Angels, Zack Neto, backed off the plate that time. Wait leads off first with two down to the inning. Pitch is in there and the count one and one and that’s in for a strike. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. outside low and the count’s even at two. Two two count. Lifted in the air right field makes a nice running catch and that’s the third out. So it’s two runs on two hits, no errors and a runner left. To the bottom of the six we go. 456 coming up. It’s the Angels seven and the Phillies two. Back here, Citizens Bank Park. Well, we go bottom six. Now it’s the right fielder, Nick Castanos. And first off is fouled off. When a guy’s throwing a lot of first pitch strikes as a hitter, you got to be ready to hit. Now, that’s not going to help you get deep into his pitch count and into the bullpen, but you got to take what he’s offering that day and down on strikes. And that’s six Ks for him in this one. Now batting. Here comes Real Muto. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. You come into the game knowing that unless the ball’s in the dirt or gets by him, we’re probably not going to steal anything today. So, that’s where you want to get a little more aggressive on your secondary lead and hope that some base hits, some slog, some home runs can come into play. Not close with that one. And that’s ball one. Well, I’ll say this. is a former position player and base stealer. When you come into a game and you’ve got a guy like this behind the dish with a big arm, you really have to change your approach. Can’t try to steal cuz you’ll get thrown out. Maybe get a little bigger lead, be aggressive on the secondary, but this type of guy shuts the running game down. Pitch. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. That’s a tough one to swallow right there. If you’re on the mound, you’re ending the count 02 and you just couldn’t find a way to put him away. That’s going to be frustrating if that one comes back to bite him. Now the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Jake Eer will depart. Well, Boo, he’s leaving this one in line for that first career win at the major league level. Now, let’s see if the bullpin can hold this lead. The new pitcher in the game, Jose Soraniano. Well, he’s been a really tough guy to take deep this season. You usually have to string some hits together in order to get to them. Runner on at first with one gone and stepping in is the speedy Bryson Stock. First pitch misses. Always tough to turn two on a speedster like this. It’s even harder with him coming out of the left-handed batter’s box. You really need something to hit hard on the ground that they can handle to turn two quickly. And that drops in for a strike. That one ripped right center field. This one could be trouble. Here comes Real Muto around third. He’ll score. Throw cut off to third. He’s in there. Comes through with the RBI. Really nice job to take that inside pitch and pull it into the gap. He could have easily spun off of it or just been tied up. He stayed short to the baseball and he was thinking triple right out of the box. Could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game. One down, runner at third. Now it’s the DH on its way to the corner and that will drop foul. Ball jump outside. Action in the pen down there. Sam Bachmann getting loose out there. Burke also getting ready. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. One away with a runner at third here in the bottom of the six. On the ground to the left, Monata slings to first now. Two away as they get a run across. So important to really lock in on an at bat like this. It seems easy with the infield back, but you’ve got to make sure you put the ball in play. Put it on the ground. Brought that run in. That one down the line. And it goes just foul. Now the one. There’s the strike. battling here as he fouls it away. Swing and a ground ball base hit right field. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. And here is Sosa to the plate. Right through there for a strike. All one’s the count. Soraniano checks off first. March back on a dive. March off of first with two away. Got him swinging. They put two on the board with a couple of hits, no errors, and one left. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Angels seven and the Phillies four. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Orion Kirkering. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season. So, this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Nolan Shadow getting ready to hit. Nolan Shadow. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. He’s a bullpen arm that keeps the ball in the ballpark, but obviously out of the bullpen, you’re looking to limit home runs. Yeah. And that’s why he’s such a high leverage arm. Just doesn’t matter for him. He looks at attacking the zone and attacking hitters regardless of the situation. And there’s the strike. Two balls, one strike. Line drive. And it stays fair. Around first and hustling for second. And he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. Oh, that’s how you respond. The off man comes up, gets into scoring position now. There are several ways that they can get this run across. Runner in scoring position, no outs. Here’s Mike Trout. Gets the strike. That was the sweeper. man at second. That’s off the mark and it’s a ball and a strike. Activity in the bullpen. Tanner Banks, a left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Strom getting cranked up as well. Squirts away a little bit. Rudder at second. Nobody out. That’s inside. Good pitchers make pitches in big situations. And right here with a middle of the order hitter up, runner in scoring position. He’s got to find a way to throw a quality strike. That’s the first out. The top of the seventh. Up next for the Angels, left fielder Taylor Ward. Taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels. Let’s go. Fast ball is outside. One out and a runner at second here in the top half of inning number seven. There’s the strike up high and it’s one and one. That one blasted deep to right. That’s back. That one is gone. And that should quiet this home crowd. That’s his 99th career homer. And they boost their lead. It’s 94. Elevated fast balls, especially away, are like putting a ball on a tea. Hitters do a lot of cage work. They’re comfortable hitting off the TE’s. And he was comfortable right there hitting that ball opposite field for a home run. Liddell stands in now, looks at that one inside. And now it’s even up. One ball, one strike. And that one hammered. Marsh moving back. Just missed it. Now batting third baseman Yan Yan Mona with a chance to hit on the ground to third. Whips it to first. And that is that two-run shot for the Angels this inning. It’s now 94. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom of the seventh now. Kyle Schwarber. Oh, he’s been having a great year this year and hitting home runs at a good clip. And the matchup is very favorable. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. 0 and one. Next offering down in the dirt. Swings through that. One ball, two strikes. And that just misses. way inside. Gets out of the way. Let’s go. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Boo. If I were him, I’d be nibbling around the plate as well. I mean, this guy’s just capable of hitting pitches outside of the zone and driving him a long way. Made at first. So, digging in now for Philadelphia. Trey Turner one for three. There’s the strike at the knees. And that’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike, with the situation, runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground and you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play. Mona quickly to second for one. Back to first. And that is a double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Bryce Harper. Bryce Harper to the plate. Come on. And there’s a ball. Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. So the inning is still alive with Nick Castillanos coming to the dish. Now batting right now. Here’s Nicholas Castanos. Went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Harper the runner at first with two gone. Come on. That misses the zone and the count is two and0. Two balls. No strike. That one almost got him. So now two on and two outs. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. The catcher JT Realm Muto first and second, two outs. JT Real Muto steps in. That misses the zone. One and0. Maybe losing command a little bit after the walk. Next pitch, not even close. First and second, two down here. The bottom of the seventh. That’s in there. And that’s strike one. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it. and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. There’s the strike twins and misses. It’s a strikeout. And that’s strikeout number 100 on the year. Phillies leave a couple. They trail it here 94. Now pitching. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the Matt Stum. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. And here’s the catcher, Logan Oh. Catcher, Logan Ohappy. Philadelphia right through there for a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Bats in there and it’s 0 and two. And two, swing and a ball lifted left field. Marsh gets under it, brings it in. One up, one down. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Phillies Wade batting with one down takes a strike. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Tanner Banks, the young lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. check swing and he held up. One in one base is empty, one away and we’re in the top of the eighth up the middle. Stop. Now a jump throw. It’s there and that’s a great play. Now batting second baseman Luis Rehito. Two outs, base is empty. And next for LA, Luis Rangifo, a switch hitter batting right. Clicks the corner. 0 and one. Yeah, that’s too high. top of the zone for a cold strike. Now, just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. That one 95 missed up top. Ball two. Soft contact in the air. He’s got it. And that’ll end the inning. Angels go down one, two, three. They’re on top, however, 94. back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Brock Burke. And he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year. So, he’s looking for better right now. Giving up more than a hit per inning. Bryson digs in now for the Philly. Second baseman Bryson Stock and the pitch a little bit low ball activity in the bullpen for the Angels. Sam Bachmann appears to be getting loose. And another ball. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. Ground ball up the middle into the outfield. Base hit and the leadoff man aboard. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. She didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. And next is the designated hitter. And that one upstairs. Ball one. Well, the laid off man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. Next pitch in for a strike and it’s one and one. One ball, one strike. Stop. Gets his lead at first with nobody out. Gets the slider in there for a strike. One ball, two strikes. Let’s go. Off the plate. Two and two. swing and a miss for the strike out. Pulled the string on the change up. So digging in, Brandon Mar left fielder Brandon Marsh. And that one fouled off. Swinging a drive deep right field and that one hops the wall. Coming home. save. It’s 9 to5. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. Edmundo Sosa stands in for the Phillies. 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. That one catches the zone. That’s strike one. One out and a runner at second. That one fouled off. just misses the mark outside the zone. Really good take especially with two strikes. That missed by a lot and the count is two and two. bows that off to the left and will do it again. Man, at second and that one almost hit him. And ball four, two aboard. Well, they didn’t give him anything to hit and now with runners on first and second, they’ve set up a double play opportunity. So, not a terrible result. Kyle Schwarber comes up to hit here. That catches the top part of the zone. And that is strike one. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter. Fast ball for a strike and it’s 0 and two. He’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in. Traffic on the bases with one already in here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. in there, got him looking, and that one split the plate. Well, that was a pretty poor at bat. He just never got the bat off the shoulder. You got to go up there looking to swing at some point, especially once you’re down 02. And at that point, make an adjustment. Look to put the ball in play if it’s anywhere close. And I’m just not sure what the plan was there. Trey Turner with a chance. Now that’s a strike across the top of the zone. Oh and one. Two on, two outs. Highfly ball on that one. Curling foul down the right side. Two on, two outs. Hold strike three on the fast ball and that ran back over the other half. Phillies with a runscoring double. It’s now 95. And we’re back. New inning getting started. Here’s the shorts stop at the plate. Zack Neto Stum, a 6’2 southpaw, 190 lbs, and he’s one of the few players in Major League Baseball born in the state of North Dakota. The shorts stop takes a ball. Some bullpen action for Philadelphia. Daniel Robert preparing to come on if needed. That clips a corner. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. just off the outside part of the plate. Two two count. Swing and a miss. got him to go up the ladder for the K. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level. That discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch. When a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity, it immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. And that’s in there for a strike. And quickly nothing at two. And that one is inside. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Definitely made him chase a little bit out of his own right there. I don’t think that’s a strike if he takes it. Pretty textbook pitching. Get ahead in the count. Get the guy in the box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn’t have much of a chance to do any damage. Tra stands in now and watches strike one. Two down, nobody on here in the top of the ninth. late on that fast. More and more guys are looking to sl regardless of the count and this situation will keep a close eye on his approach. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Makes the turn and heads for second. The throw in and he’s out. Knock down and that ends the inning. New pitcher now, Sam Bachmann. He pitched yesterday and we’ll see him once again. Now pitching for the Angels, number 40, Sam Bachmann. Here comes Bryce Harper. And it’s fouled away. And there’s a fly ball deep right field. That one carrying grabs it right up against the wall. Now batting right fielder Nick Castanos. Nick Castanos the next to hit and that’s off the inside edge and it’s one and0. The Phillies down by four. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Worm Burner into the outfield for a knock. So, a man aboard now with one away. Now batting the catch bring up GT Real Muto this to center field. Adele on the run pulls it in on the run. Two down. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He’s saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. So, it’s their last chance in this one. And here is Bryson. Ball one, no strikes. Just missed. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. There’s the strike and it’s two and one and that one missing low. Cast off of first with two away. Next offering in there for a strike. Three and two now. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap. Got him. And that’s the ball game. Eer with his first major league win. Yeah, nicely done. I’m sure he’ll feel very good about that and get the ball for his trophy case as he should. A start he won’t ever forget. Our final score here, 95 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
