Padres vs. Nationals Game Highlights (7/20/25) | MLB Highlights
We have ourselves a rubber match here at Nationals Park. Padres Nationals complete their three game set. Yeah, making that 20th start of the season. 302, A can get under three today. I think he can got to stay on the attack. Big thing for Mackenzie Gore today. That is ball four misses with the fastball and he walks fernando, walk and Rise, bat in the two spot lined to left center and in for a base hit for rise, two strikes never a problem for Luis Rise and he’s aboard for two. Padres have reached here in the first inning 1st and 2nd. Nobody out to take advantage here early. And Mackenzie Gore, one of those situations where if you don’t get to him early, you may not get to him at all. He settles in Itit’s seven coming up here with that at second and arise at first and Machado will take ball 42 walks in the inning bases loaded. Nobody out in the Padres first inning, wanted that one, but it did appear to be down to a very good opportunity here for the Padres to get off and a good foot here. Against Mackenzie Gore slips one to left field going back to the , and it is gone. Red slam Xander with the grand slam in the first inning. Padres lead it four. Nothing. What a way to start a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the nation’s capital. How about those Padres? There’s just the first out on the 22nd pitch of his first inning for Mackenzie Gore if he can find his bearings here after giving up the grand slam. Now liner to left field and that’s in for a ahead off the bat of Iglesias. He set it for second base will get it back in. It’s a double for Iglesias and the hits continue for the Padres here in the first inning. That’s a big run out there, jose Iglesias at second base. J Cron out of the seven spot getting the start at second base on the ground. A fair ball in the left field Iglesias coming around from second base. He will score Padres take a five nothing lead. Cron driving in Iglesias back to back doubles here. That’s that big Reno was just talking about now full of runs for San Diego. What a way to start a ball game. Nick Pat has been waiting a while but he doesn’t mind he’s been quality all year long and cannot wait to get out there with that five run lead in the bottom of the first that is in there for strike three. There’s that good curveball for strike out of the day for Nick pave high heat in the yer. Where does it start? Where does it end up? Oh, yeah, he landed that one perfectly two down garcia at first. Forhan Lowe swing and a slow chase, a high fastball. Second strike out of the inning for Pana. And that’s all for the Nats in the bottom of the first inning trying to bounce back here. He strikes out to get a rise to fly out and Then bring up Manny Machado. That’s ball four second time. He’s walked Machado. Third walk allowed by Gore deal with Xander Bogart who hit the grand slam last year. There’s a line drive base hit in the left field for Bogart. He’s two for two. Machado takes second base. Xander stay hot. So third out proving elusive here at the top of the second in a two out walk and a two out hit brings in Gavin sheets both walking around out there in that bullpen gavin sheets in this spot with two outs and runners in scoring position at 316 line and up off the top of the glove of Abrams in the center run from second comes Machado. Padres will take a 60 lead gavin sheets joining the hit parade. Abrams tries to time this one off the webbing of the glove, a six pack up there for San Diego J and RB. I double to make it five. Nothing is only other time up that was back in the first inning. Takes it to left again and a fair ball down the left field line heading to second base again. His second double of the day, same general area. Should we change the Cron zone? Donny Cron moving over there beyond third base now could be infield in for their number nine hitter Diaz who popped up to short center Garcia caught it first time. This is down the line in left field. It is back in, it is gone. Diaz connects on his fifth home run of the year. Padres taking eight nothing lead. Padres getting their hacks in on this Sunday. Oh, it’s a fastball in and he cleans it out, no doubt about this one. Padres got a snowman up there in that our column that is going to do it. Miguel Cairo headed out there to make the change. Mackenzie Gore weathers the storm 75 pitches and eight runs late. He leaves this game 11 in a row. Now retired by the two down here in the fifth. He’s only faced two over the minimum up to this point for Nick Pata. Have a day. Stay hot. Keep going. Here’s Riley Adams with two down a high drive well hit right center field for Adams Johnson to the warning track near the wall feeling for the wall this one over his head and it’s gone. It’s in and out of the seats in the first row and opposite field home run for Riley Adams and the nationals are on the Adams fifth homer makes it 8 to 1. That one just carried out. Bob the big out of town scoreboard in right center field. A San Diego native homers against his hometown team. Here comes Jackson Rutledge. Now he’s got the NATS eight outs , 47 pitches. Here’s Machado. He had a no contact day, three walks. This is in the air to left center field pretty deep back goes young at the wall. It’s off the wall and the car is nasty. Machado will head into second base and pull it up there. He’s got himself a wall ball double fourth time Machado has been on today. Really, Rutledge is doing a Yeoman’s work here getting up over 50 pitches. We mentioned his season high 63. This kind of turned back the clock to his starter days. He’s trying to get this game through the middle innings lifted high in the air to left. A Lyle is all over it, waiting over, waiting to left center. Lyle pulls it in for the out. That’s the inning. No runs one hit 8 to 1. Padres have the lead back on the mound. 75 pitches deep through the 1st 52 outs wood at first and Nathaniel Lowe after the first pitch and driving it to left field sheets goes back on to the warning track to make the catch that will end the inning might be the outing for, we see one Hoing has come on to pitch after Nick went six, he allowed one run on the Adams Homer in the fifth inning. Three hits a walk and five strikeouts. Nick through only 87 pitches, 60 of which were strikes you want to see here, lots of people with the seven run lead puts two on here for the NATS and give Jacob Young a chance. Ground ball right side ranging is cronenworth and he bobbles in and it’s an error load the bases for the nationals. Nobody is more upset right now than J Cron. The play he should have made. He’d say that himself single walk and now E four had the bases loaded the nationals with two down on the big guys coming up, Abrams swing, send it in the air to left field sheets backing up towards the quarter. He’s got plenty of room and with rasping his feet, he makes the catch to end the and the bases are loaded. Jacob back out there for another inning of relief. He pitch the eighth and back out there trying to finish it off here in the ninth. Padres with a seven run lead on top 8 to 1 hugging the line that’s gonna be called a fair ball ball will bounce softly out in front of sheets and Paul the Young will grab a two for four day after striking out and hitting a fly ball nicely done right here for Paul the young two down in the ninth with the young at second base grounded back to Jacob. He will run a little bit flips underhanded for the out that ends the ball game. So the Padres win this one, a final of 8 to 1, they win the series as a result, taking two out of three from the nationals and a good way to start this lengthy road trip. The first leg of this three city tour comes to an end and a big day for Xander Bogaerts and of course the grand slam back in the first inning.

The Padres' last 4 grand slams have all been against the Nationals.
Xander, Manny, Jurickson, and Higgy.
8:00 great win
slam diego is back baby
All I can say is, you see what happens when we have a good pitcher like Nick Pivetta pitching. We blank them with 1 run. We need to upgrade our starting rotational pitchers. Darvish and Dylan Cease are not cutting it. We can make a deep push for the playoffs. Our batters are decent enough to win games but they just need a shot. My hope is that the padres remake their starting pitchers and bring a focus on that. If we can get under 3 runs a game for all our games that would be ideal and we would have a chance to go deep in the playoffs but without it you basically rely on your batters to score 5+ runs every night Pivetta isn't pitching. And that's how it feels at the moment…
Keep them faith padres
Slam Diego is in the house. 😀👍⚾️

Offence is clicking😂
Xander and Manny playing like the contracts they got. When Tatis and Merrill join in… 🔥🔥
Slam Diego
Give Nick a good contract. He proved himself.
We're very fortunate to win 4 out of 6 against WAS.
It’s good they got crushed today — that basement-level team only won by pure luck yesterday, and today, nothing could save them.
#LFGSD🤎💛 #ArribaSanDiego
Playing good just to lose to the Dodgers in the playoffs again 😂
Tattis ❤
Is manny injured or just lazy. Cuz he aint running at all around the bases this season.
Can he get under 3 ERA today? “I think he can” 😂😂😂Haha
It feels like they took all of the stranded runners from this season and cleaned them all up in this game. This is the consistency we need.
Woohoo!!
You do not see very many big league pitchers hold their composure like Gore did after a terrible outing. Props to him from a Padres fan.
881st 👍! Bogey goes boom! Remember the mantra: Keep Winning Series!
