The 49ers Just Got A Great Update Ahead of Training Camp! | San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers just got a great update ahead of training camp that I’m excited to tell you about in this episode. It is exactly what I needed to hear or at least close to it. Plus, I have some mediocre news, some kind of downer news, and then at the end, we’re going to close up shop with another good piece of news that I think that you’re going to be really excited to hear. Hit subscribe if you’re looking for daily 49ers content. Today’s question of the day, I’ve got a I’ve got a little bit of a funny one for you. Let me know in the comments if you are drafting Ricky Pierol for your fantasy football team this year. I’m in a dynasty league and I did not get Ricky Pierol. So I do not have him on my team. Uh and he was just involved in a trade. So I had both parties of the trade talking to me about what the latest is on Ricky Pierall and if this is a good move, how much value he he has the opportunity for him heading into the season. So, I’m interested to let I’m just interested like any of you guys feeling so high on Ricky Pierol that you are considering him in your NFL fantasy draft. Let me know what you think about that one. For me, I am absolutely fired up about this biggest update, this great update coming from Matt Mayoko about Ricky Pierall just a two days later or whatever. Here’s the exact quote. Unless there’s been some bad setback that nobody knows about based on what we were told in June, Ricky Pieraw should be ready to rock and roll when the 49ers get on the practice field for the first time on Wednesday. Matt said he reached out to the 49ers as well as Pierall’s representatives. And while he didn’t get a definitive answer where he is confident enough to report whether he will be taken off pup or not, he was told that Ricky did not have a setback since Kyle Shanahan’s last presser. Meaning that everything Kyle Shanahan said about him he him being ready for training camp should still be true. There’s no extra setback that would impact that. Remember Ricky even talked about saying he would or or Kyle said he could have actually gone in OTAAS. They’re just being extra cautious. So that means and I’m hoping the same thing is true for YGM as well by the way who is still who who showed up on the pup as well. But that means that there’s a very very good shot that Ricky Pieraw will be out there Tuesday, Wednesday somewhere around beginning of training camp. That is exactly what we needed to hear because our wide receiver room right now cannot take another hit. That also, you know, as I’m thinking about this opportunity for Ricky, this is a prove it year. This is the best opportunity he’ll probably ever have in his entire career to make it happen right here. This is it. Because there’s never going to be as open of an airfield for this guy. The runway is there. If Ricky Pearsaw goes out there while Brandon Iayuk is still coming back from injury and even after he comes back still getting in rhythm. If Brandon if if Ricky Pearsaw can go out there and take advantage of that opportunity. If something happens with Jawan Jennings, which I hope doesn’t, but if something happens to Jan Jennings where he ends up getting traded to another team unexpectedly or he holds out and the 49ers hold their ground and say then fine, don’t play football. I don’t know. Like I’m not saying that’s going to happen. I don’t think that’s going to happen, but if something like that happens, we already have Brendon Ayuk down. I’ve got an update for you on Demarcus Robinson uh later in the episode as well. That’s not really great. So, uh there’s a really, really solid opportunity for Ricky Pierol to be wide receiver number one in the first portion of this season. And if he takes advantage of that opportunity, one, those of you who said yes and put him on your fantasy team are going to be happy about it. But number two, most importantly, that’s that confirms that what Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch did in drafting Ricky Pierce all overall um or in the first draft first round of the draft, not overall obviously, uh in the first round, uh was a wise decision, that it is going to pay off. It’ll show us just enough to see that it was the good decision. It was the right decision. So, I’m excited about this news. I couldn’t I couldn’t be more excited about it. Um, you know, John Chapman posted this and I no, everyone kind of lost in the mix of the news of players showing up on on PUP and NFI. Nobody was really talking about the fact that Jer Brown was not on that list, which is a good sign. We need him healthy. We need him 100%. Uh, if you don’t remember in OTAAS, uh, he he picked up a little bit of a of an injury and wasn’t there for a good portion of OTAAS. I can’t remember exactly how much of OTAAS he wasn’t there for. I don’t remember, but Malak Mustafa obviously is out and so you’ve got your two starting safeties out. There’s a little bit of a concern there. Speaking of safeties, not sure exactly what the thinking inside the building is, obviously, but George ODM was released. He played more than twothirds of all special teams snaps last year. Uh he’s he’s definitely been an an integral part of the special teams to be fair. a pretty rough special teams last year. Uh Ian Rapaore reported that he had surgery last month on his elbow, so he could be part of the story. That could be part of the story. Injury related situation. He was on I think he was on NFI if I’m not mistaken. Uh is that possible? That can’t be right. I don’t know. Whatever. Frees up a little bit of cap space for now. It’s important to note though that, you know, he could still recover. He could still he could still come back in before 90 or could still be uh on an NFL team. So, um, this is we’ve seen the 49ers let guys go, um, especially in the off season and bring them back several times. There are players kind of on the fringes that, uh, need to get moved out. Um, you know, comes to mind right now is Trent Taylor. Um, there’s a guy that’s kind of gone and come back several times. So, there are there are times where I I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know if this is a is a uh a 90man roster movement that based on what they’re trying to do, they have to let a guy go in order to get somebody else in. We don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. We do know, however, special teams coordinator Brent Ber, new special teams coordinator I should say, um has spent the entire offseason bringing in his guys, getting his guys in there. And so it also could just be that he was the odd man out on special teams. Could be that he was the odd man out on the safety depth chart with Gyer Brown being healthy and less concerned there. I don’t know. Nobody knows. But either way, um he’s going to be gone for a little while in the NFL. Some other news that is uh kind of a downer is uh it’s looking like Demarcus Robinson’s suspension is per Matt Barros kind of a sure thing at this point. Uh the way he put it is that the 49ers are bracing themselves for a suspension. It would be almost unexpected if he doesn’t get one at this point. So, there’s a good chance that has gotten even better, a really good chance that we are going to see Demarcus Robinson uh serve probably a three-gameish kind of suspension um uh for violating the substance abuse policy last season. Okay. I don’t know why I said uh DUI last time. Why was I thinking that? Who who had a DUI? I was thinking that yesterday. Uh, whatever the case. Really cool. I wanted to uh get to this clip and I need to double check that I actually have it pulled up properly here, but I wanted to get to this clip. Uh, you know, one of those guys that I very much uh look forward to or or appreciate and respect massively. Uh, you’ll not at all be surprised by this guy’s name. If I can get this open, please. Ah, I can’t get it open. Uh, anyway, give me a second. I’ll get it. But um Greg Cassell is a guy that I come back to all the time. I respect this guy’s film watching prowess and knowledge base more than just about anybody in at all ever anywhere at any point in time. I respect this guy’s opinion so much. And he was asked about kind of this era of quarterbacks, the pre-nap operators and the postnap operators as he likes to call them. I’m going to let you just give this a listen. You have to listen for a second to actually get to the Brock Party part of this, but just give this in general a listen. And I think it’s pretty interesting. The era sort of of, and I’ll explain this as quickly as I can, of the Brady’s, the Breeze, and Mannings, guys who were pre-nap operators. There might be two guys in the league like that. Joe Burrow’s like that. Aaron Rogers because he’s from that the older era, he’s like that. But most quarterbacks now are what we call post snap operators. You know, they’re they’re basically taking the snap and then figuring out where to throw the ball based on what they see. Um, you know, just pointing out a blitz doesn’t mean you’re a pre-nap operator. You know, kids in high school can do that, too. But, and Perie is one of those guys. I mean, he sees the field intuitively. I mean, he is an elite processor, which allows him to throw with high high level anticipation. So, you know, you’re dealing with a guy that is outstanding post snap. And Kyle Shanahan is really good. Sort of his superpower is his understanding of defense. And that’s why his his play calling can be so so good because he understands defense maybe as well as any offensive coordinator type in the league. Okay, so just to clarify, by the way, this is Greg Cassell on the Ross Tucker podcast. This is not Greg Cassell calling in 957 the game like he does during the during the season. This is Greg Cassell just bringing up Brock Pury naturally not being asked about it. You know a lot of the takes that happen on Brock Py are takes because somebody’s trying to get a segment figured out for Brock Pury for the news for media coverage for eyes eyeballs on the television or on their phone. You know what I mean? Like this is Greg Cassell naturally talking about pre pre-nap uh processors and then uses the phrase uses what hold on what was the phrase uh let’s see here he calls Brock Pury an elite processor that’s the phrase he uses he calls Brock Pury an elite processor which you know it’s not new in terms of people having that take. We’ve definitely heard that take before, but it it definitely gave me a good feeling inside. You know, today uh was one of those Sundays where I desperately missed football and I had to turn football on the TV. So, I I pulled up an old game. Uh went back to 2022. Thought it would be appropriate since we’ll be playing the Seahawks to open the season. I went back to 2022, watched that Seahawks game. Uh, and that was Brock Party’s second NFL career start right after the Tampa Bay game, 35-7 if I’m not mistaken, uh, against Tom Brady, handing Tom Brady his third worst ever loss in the his NFL career, illustrious NFL career. But anyway, watching that Seattle Seahawks game and seeing Brock Pury in the early days, it was interesting to go back and see the plays that were called and kind of the organization of the plays that were called and maybe I wouldn’t maybe lack of trust is not the right word, but definitely uh lack of of they were not expanding the playbook for Brock Pury, but you still see highlights in in those moments. I Brock Pury didn’t even throw an incomplete pass for almost the first half through like one incomplete pass. We just very very secure in running the system from the get-go. Something that we can absolutely appreciate. And then of course his processing ability, his uh he had a 58 yard uh uh touchdown play that he throws to George KD maybe 15 yards deep down in the left. Great play, but what was so cool about it watching it back knowing what we now know about Brock Purie is the way that you see him process all through his reads. And George KD was his third read. And the way how quick he got to KD where the defense had no time, the Seattle defense had no time to react, no time to process what was happening and immediately looked in dire straits the second Brock Pury released the ball. And that was just, you know, that’s that elite processing that Brock Party has. So, couldn’t agree more. appreciate it when people like Greg Cassell who know football better than most people. You know, he’s he knows more things about football than uh most of us will ever will ever know. He’s forgotten more things about football than most of us will ever know, as they say. Uh but whatever the case, we’re two days away from training camp. Let’s go. I cannot wait. I’m so stoked. I cannot wait for that first press conference on Tuesday. I I’m just fired up for every little bit of information we get to get uh and and appreciate. And it is time. Football is back. I’m sitting on my couch on a Sunday afternoon watching football today. Yeah, it’s old football, but I’m watching football and it feels good. We are there. We made it and I cannot wait to get through it. 1. Damn bro that's some high praise form Cosell… I'm also a huge fan of Cosell – dude tells it like it is!

We got a superstar behind center now fellas! Now let's go give him the support he needs!!!

  2. I really think Pearsall is gonna step up and play a huge role this year. Beast as a WR.

It's not just his physical attributes, though he is surely a 1st-round talent. The dude just has it.

Shook off getting shot in the chest last season and was ready to roll in 4 weeks. he said he could've played week 1. Not many guys built that way.

I think we see Purdy-to-Pearsall become a real thing this season. Let's GO!

  3. Odum being released is not surprising… We seem to be set at safety, so this move is opening a spot for an additional WR to be added to the 53 man roster because our biggest concern is at the WR position…
