Brodie’s Breakdown: 2025-26 Schedule Release
The schedule is now officially set for the 35th season of Sharks hockey. You can get it, plus all the details on promotional giveaways right now at sjsharks.com. But in this video, five deeper looks at what lies ahead for Sharks players and you, the fans, in this upcoming season. First off, 27 of the 41 home games now drop the puck by default at 700 p.m. That’s 30 minutes earlier from how it’s traditionally always been at the tank. And quite honestly, it’s great that the league and the team were able to do this for the fans. This change was made based on feedback from Sharks 365 members and the fan base in general. It means most games will be wrapped up before the 10:00 hour hits and gets Sharks fans from far and wide home at a much more decent hour. Second, there’s also seven, that’s right, seven home games this year scheduled to begin at 100 p.m. Another three that begin at 5:00 p.m. and one which gets underway at 400 p.m. As the father of an 8-year-old, honestly, we could not be more excited about this. The early start times are also all handpicked around weekends and holidays, so it is the perfect opportunity for young families to reward the next generation of Sharks fans by visiting the tank. Also, it certainly doesn’t hurt for a young ascending team like the Sharks to get that by coastal exposure and attention that they deserve. Considering hockeyy’s largest contingent resides in the Eastern time zone, it sure is nice to get Teal on the televisions a lot earlier than 1:00 a.m. Third is that 3-week break for the Sharks in February due to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. Now, this is the first time NHL players have participated in the game since 2014. It does mean a complete shutdown of the NHL and only four total games for the Sharks in February. While some kind of late season break in the schedule certainly isn’t new, it hasn’t been this extended in quite some time. It’s good for hockey fans obviously to see best on best in this world format. But it also should help a lot of teams, maybe even the Sharks, heal up and get ready for the final seven weeks of the regular season and maybe beyond. Fourth, because of that lengthy Olympic break, the rest of this season also has to be appropriately condensed. That means only three times on the calendar will the Sharks get a 3-day break. The schedule also features 17 backtobacks, including four straight in the month of January alone. This is definitely going to be a challenge for not only the Sharks, but all NHL teams to manage rest with players, but also try and squeeze in those valuable practice days where possible. And lastly, all the nuts and bolts of what you need to know. Opening night, it’s at home October 9th against Las Vegas. And the season finale is April 16th on the road against Winnipeg. In total, it’s 82 games in 189 days. Balance-wise, there’s 11 tilts in October, 15 in November, 14 in December, 13 in January, those four in February with 15 in March, and 10 concluding in April. The longest home stands are six games each. That’ll happen twice. And the longest road trips are five games each. Those will happen three times in the course of the season. In terms of divisional opponents, San Jose plays the Kings three times and plays everybody else in the Pacific Division four times. It’s also three matchups with each of the Central Division teams and twice against every other Eastern Conference opponent. If Matthew Schaefer and Michael Misa both make their respective NHL teams and are in the lineup on that day, we will see number one and number two from the most recent draft face off for real on October 21st when the Islanders host the Sharks. We can’t wait to get things going again. By the way, preeason starts September 21st at the tank against the Golden Knights.

Love the breakdown of the season Mr.Brazil. I am so looking forward to this season. The teal is real. GO SHARKS GO ❤!
I thought the league made a rule a decade ago or so that the most traveled teams are supposed to get less back to backs. I feel like in the last 4 years or so we've still had top 5 travel miles and also some of the most back to backs on the schedule. Always feels like the NHL has hated us for 16 years lol. We love the increased amount of 7 o clock start times. It was actually a season ticket holder survey last season if we wanted more 7 or 730 starts. Awesome to see the 7!
Thank You Very Much, Brodie Brazil! Awesome breakdown. Always great to hear your takes. LET'S GO SHARKS!
As an Eastern time Shark fan for 20 years I love that we are seeing earlier game times that my kids will be able to watch
3:23 This isn't quite accurate. We also only play Seattle three times (home December 20th, road November 5th and 15th). Until the schedule expands to 84 games (26-27 season) every team has 4 games against 5 divisional teams (20 total), 3 games against 2 divisional teams (6 total), 3 against all other division in the conference teams (24 total), and 2 against all of the other conference teams (16 total) to add up to 82 games. Your breakdown would have 83 games.
I wish games would start at 5pm. SF to SJ is a long drive. Still worth it to see those SHARKS 🦈
As a lifelong Sharks fan living in the UK I’m glad the majority of our home games aren’t going to start at 3:30AM!!!
Hasn't the Olympic participation for NHL players been done to DEATH Brodie.? TWO WEEKS OFF??? C'mon! Enough of the Olympic pro experiment and bring back the college guys and amateurs and let us fans watch our team on a regular schedule. So sick of that two weeks of no Sharks hockey garbage.
Brodie, maybe it’s just playoffs, but maybe it’s both playoffs and regular season; but anyway you can find out what the sharks record is for games that start before 3pm pacific time? I feel like the sharks record for early start games may be somewhat “lackluster”.
As a Florida Sharks fan, I say thank you.
0:50 YES that's partly why football is a much easier sport to follow since it has all the morning and afternoon games… More early games on weekends please
Living in Chicago I'm stoked for the earlier puck drops. Great decision by the organization
Yesssss!!! More 7pm starts!!
The 7:30 start time games were the only games I could watch cause the games end before I get home at night 😢
Loving all the new times especially from living in the east coast and will be able to stay awake for most of the games
3:02 the graphic says 2 feb games even thought there’s 4, also the sharks play LA and Seattle 3 times, otherwise it wouldnt add up
