“I was already going fast. If I stopped, I was gonna be thrown out at third, so I just kept going—and it happened to be the winning run, so I don’t regret it at all. Even if I got thrown out, I wouldn’t have regretted it.” – Jackson Merrill

  1. It was the right call. If he’s out then tatis leads off the next inning. I don’t have a ton of faith in our cluchness right now. Glad he went

  2. There is a time to be conservative and a time to be aggressive and that was a time to be aggressive. So glad Jackson made the move to charge it in. Won us the game (the defense and bullpen too). Love the quote as well. Lfg SD!

  3. Time Leiper is a terrible third base coach. He’s cost us a lot of runs this season. If you haven’t been paying attention to him, start. He’s ultra conservative over there. We’ve lost too many one run games when he’s held people up.

  4. Leiper has been pretty questionable this season but I have to wonder whether he threw up the stop sign because Merrill is dealing with sickness

  5. It was a ridiculous call to throw up the stop. Merrill’s speed, two outs (so running on contact) and a double. When Orsillo said “oh, they’re holding him” I was flabbergasted. Won the game.
