MLB LIVE🔴 Cincinnati Reds vs Washington Nationals – Jul 21, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

about to get started here. And starting in this one, Jake Irvin and Singi, it’s unique these days, but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy. Yeah, Boogie. He doesn’t rely too heavily on the strike out. He knows he needs to miss barrels, get some soft contact, let the defense do work behind him. And I think a guy like that that can keep a good tempo, don’t give hitters time to adjust or think, they can move through a ball game and you look off, they’re in line for a quality start. We’ll see what he’s gotten this one. That one ripped. That’s down. One hops off the wall into second easily with a leadoff double. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. Next for Cincinnati, Matt Mlan. Fast ball for a strike. That’s a ball. Fredo at second with nobody out. The one-1 is fouled off. And a swing to miss. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strike out. And there’s one away. Here’s Ellie. No matter what he does on the field. It feels exciting. Alli de Lash show partner. An electric player. No wonder they put him on the cover. rip towards third. Sends it across to first and there’s two away. Here’s the lineup for the Reds. They do a lot of things well in this offense. Singi, they control the strike zone. They make pitchers work hard for outs and as a result one of the better OBP teams in the league. Well, what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy. Whether you go to instructional league, whether you go to spring training, you see these guys even during batting practice when it doesn’t matter. They’re practicing that type of approach. Boo. And when you have that filtering through the organization, even when you call off a player, he steps right in and continues with the pattern that they have established at this level, which ultimately leads to a lot of success. Just missed. You know, you translate on base percentage, it’s basically this teams that have a high on base percentage, they don’t make outs at a very high rate. As my buddy Joe Sheen says, OBP is L. highf fly ball out to left field and that is that so one left for Cincinnati and now the Nets get their first opportunity. There’s no score. You’re dialed into the show. Back here with my pal Singi on the hill for the Reds, Graham Ashcraft. Chris, it’s a little more common these days, but still he’s a strikeout per inning type of guy. Well, I hear you about the strikeouts. A lot more guys striking out today. But when you consider having the ability to get that strike out, particularly when you need it, a man on third, less than two outs, situations where, yeah, maybe you’re not a real high strikeout guy, but just knowing you have the swing and miss dump in a big spot, I think it’s real critical. And he’s got it. This one in the air right field. Joe getting an angle on it and he makes the catch and there’s one down. Here’s Dave Martinez lineup for the Nationals. Someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs. Jacob Young. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. And first off is fouled off. [Music] One out. Base is empty. Swinging a miss. And that’s strike two. 02 is the count. Bounced up the middle. Gets it to first. Two gone. Setting third base. Two outs. Base is empty. Josh Bell digging in for the Nationals. Foul ball. Next offering is in for a strike. This guy’s pounding the zone. Hitters don’t have time to think in between pitches. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. [Music] Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Music] Two down. Nobody on. Got him looking and he didn’t like the call. Nothing doing for Washington. We played an inning. No score. Back here in Nationals Park, top of the second and now it’s going to be Spencer Steer Urban, a 66 righty, 235 lbs and he was drafted in the fourth round back in 2018. fought off foul right side. Lyle moving back for this one. He makes the grab and there’s one away. 96ated Noel Noel V Marte the next to hit for the Reds. And that’s downstairs and outside. Swag a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. Swing and a miss. One and two. That’s that slurp right there. Threw it extremely well. Talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to it. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Two down. Base is empty and ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Tyler Stevenson. He swings and fouls one off and now the one swing and a foul pushed off to the right and that will get out of play. Two out space is empty. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Can I count one and two? Two strength up the middle. Throw not in time. It’s an unlikely infield single. Tough play on a nice backhand stop. Had to be perfect with the exchange and throw to get the out, but it looked like he had to dig in there a little deeper like he was trying to get a split finger grip or something. Close play, but that little extra time on the transfer made all the difference. And now here is Santiago Espino right through there for a strike. got the bat going too soon and strike two. He finds himself in a tough situation early. Just going to try to simplify it. Take a knock the other way if you can. And there’s the ball. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Two strikes the count. That one to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Reds leave one. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Back in Washington DC. Bottom half of inning number two. Now it’s the Nationals cleanup hitter Paul D Young Ashcraft back to work. Fast ball for a strike and it’s 0 and one. [Music] Dangerous spot for that slider right there. Didn’t seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break. Tell you what, he doesn’t want to throw that pitch again. The O2 keeps the atbat going with a foul ball [Music] on the ground right side. Steps on first for the out. second base Luis Garcia. And now it’s Luis Garcia. Check swing called Strike. Nothing nothing here in the bottom of the second. [Music] that one outside and it’s one and one. Tried to back door with that slider right there but just missed off the plate. Good pitch though. Popped up to the left into foul ground. He’s got it and there’s two away [Music] up now for Washington. Brady House. first offering and it just misses. Counts one and0. Two outs. A rope into right and that’s a base hit. batting seven rightielder. So up next, Dalen Lyall. And that one is inside. Two gone, but the go-ahead run is at first. Bottom half of inning number two in there at the knees. And that is strike one. This one in the dirt. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. Three balls in a strike. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Next offering in there for a strike now three and two. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. What a stop. Fires to first. Got him. Nice play. Oh, that’s cat-like reflexes over there at the hot corner. Nice job of making that play and ending the inning. And we’re back. Well, here we go. Top of the third scoreless game. Now it’s the right fielder Connor Joe. First pitch misses. A big swing and a miss. I think he was sitting off speed there. And he swings through that one. One ball, two strikes. outside with a breaking ball. Next offering is down low on the ground right side. Bell takes it to the bag. Leadoff hitter gone in the third. Now batting the centerielder TJ Fel. Now here’s the Red’s leadoff man. TJ Fredle led this game off with a double but they weren’t able to drive him in. Pitch misses outside and it’s one and0. [Music] Flares one into right and foul ball and that skips in the dirt. Looks like he’s being a little cautious with him in this at bat after doubling the first time up. Doesn’t want to make another mistake. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Top of the third, no score. Line drive. Oh, he loves it. Nothing you can do about those as a hitter. Even though you know that, they still drive you absolutely crazy. In now for the Reds. Matt Mlan 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. strike on the inside corner. He’s done a great job getting the first two outs. Want to get this number two hitter get back in the dugout and face 345 next inning upstairs. And that’s ball one. That’s inside. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. The pitch. Breaking ball misses down and away. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. And that’s inside and a good at bat ball four. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Dela Cruz in the box now. No balls in a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And that’s outside and one and one. And that’s fouled off. Two outs. Foul ball still a one and two count. ripped on the ground to second. That’s the third out. Home half of the third coming up. No score. And welcome back to the ballpark set for the bottom of the third. And it’s the catcher for the Nationals, Riley Adams. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. [Music] off left side. Highf fly ball lifted in the air right field. Joe on the move and he can’t quite get there. It’s a foul ball. Here’s the O2. Little bit low. And that’s outside. Outside low and now it’s three and two. spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. Misses the zone and he gets him to chase. Gets to it on to first in time to get him. One away in the strikeout. Jacob Young getting ready to hit. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. First offering misses badly for ball one. [Music] One down. Base is empty. That one finds the zone and the count one and one. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike and he grounds one to the right side and that chance handled to first and that’s an out. Alex. So the batting order turns over. Alex Call digging in for the Nationals. fly to right his first time on the ground to the left. Throws across the diamond and that is the third out of the inning. Three up, three down for Washington and we’re still knotted at zero as we go to the top of the fourth. Now the Red’s cleanup hitter, Austin Hayes. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. That catches the corner. knee high. That’s in for a strike. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. The wind, the kick, and the one, two, drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. And that one hops the wall, makes the turn and heads for second. And now a runner moves into scoring position. as we look for the first run of the ball game. I’m sure he feels really good about that one. Pretty much just a textbook double into the gap. And when you can drop one in there between the outfielders, you know you’re making the turn at first. Just an excellent swing. Now, let’s see if they can put up the first run of the game. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position next for Cincinnati. Spencer Steer high in the air out to right. Lyall makes the grab. Grounder tags at second and he’s in safely at third with one out. Now Daddy designated Noel V Mart. Now it’s the Red’s DH. Noelv Marte. The goal is to give your teammate a chance to score from third. There’s a few ways he can get it done, but his best chance is to drive one in the air. Look for the right pitch. That’s ripped into the outfield. And that’s a base hit. In comes the first run of the game as the Reds take the lead. Big RBI for him right there. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach. His head was down all the way through the pitch. And that’s how you do it. Tyler Stevenson the next to hit. Reached on an infield single his first time. That misses one and0. swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field. Young brings it in with a nice running grab. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes they make the play perfectly. And here is Santiago Espino. He’s 0 for one. And first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. One’s the count. That one fouled off. on the ground and it goes just foul. Marte off of first with two away and a foul ball. He stays alive [Music] and down on strikes. That K is his third of the game, but they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here in Nationals Park, John Chabi and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Nathaniel Low. And that drops in for a strike. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. Just missed. Well, these gnats as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to. Next pitch is downstairs. Three balls, one strike. [Music] gets the slider in there for a strike. That slider breaking in can be a tricky pitch. If you don’t finish it and have that bite at the end and it stays out over the plate, it can get hit a long way. But that was a good one right there. Out to short and it finds its way through for a hit. And a good start to the inning. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Josh Bell at the plate now. and a base hit up the middle. And it’s now first and second to start the inning. Back to back base hits. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. Didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. First and second, no outs. The Young will hit next. He’s 0 for one. And that misses ball one. [Music] Swing and a miss as he chases that one. Darting out of the zone. First and second here, no outs. Generally, second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. And a swing and a miss. And that is a big first out. Now it’s the second baseman, Luis Garcia. First time up was a pop out. definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. There’s a strike. Really good job in this spot to get ahead in the count. He’s going to have to continue finish off this hitter on the ground. Could be two. One at second and that’s two. Poetry in motion. There’s the second base. Turns the double play. Nice throw to first and that’s the way to end the inning. Back in Washington DC. And now the right fielder Connor Joe. DC Irvin back to work headed towards the corner and that’s a fair ball. The throw in. Not in time. That’s a leadoff double. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. TJ Fredel the next to hit for the Reds. One for two. Close but called a ball. And that is ball one. [Music] Man at second. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. One and one. Two-1. Squirts away a little bit. Ground ball right side. And that’s just foul. Joe stands at second with no outs. Worm Burner into the outfield for a knock. Coming home. Here’s the throw to the plate. It’s off the mark and he scores. Well, here we are. Third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Matt Mlan now at the plate. And that one a little bit high. Rudder at first with no outs here. And now one and two activity in the Washington bullpen. Andre Lara, the rookie right-hander, is getting loose. Parker warming up as well. Just a slow ground ball this time. And that goes foul. [Music] Good job to fight that one off. in the air right field. Brings it in. Well, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Ellie Dea Cruz the next to hit for the Reds. Swinging a foul out of play inside and a count even one and one. You can feel the extra attention on Ellie anytime he comes to the plate. This guy’s a player that keeps you on the edge of your seat because you don’t know what he’s going to do next. He can hit for power, steals bases, he can throw the ball 100 miles per hour across the infield. He’s electric. Run around the goal. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Gets off a throw and no shot to get him at first. There’s two aboard. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Jake Irvin is done. Just never found his groove. Wasn’t able to settle in. New arm coming on. Back in a moment. Andre Lara taking over on the mound. Still pretty early in the ball game. So, this bullpen has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs. Kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him. Two on, one out. And the batter now, Austin Hayes. That pitch in for a strike. 0 and one. 01’s the count. Maybe a two ball. Five. Four. Three. It’s a double play. And that’ll do it for the inning. But the RBI single pushes across a run and it’s two zip. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. And now up for Washington. Brady House. House delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. You know, these Nationals just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. They’ve been chasing pitches outside the zone all game and it’s led to some frustrating moments. They’ve been fooled quite a bit today. Takes it in for the out. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. So, digging in, Dalen Lyle. First time up, he grounded to third. Well, on the mound, very efficient, able to produce an outcome it seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every at bat. One down, base is empty. That’s a strike and it’s nothing and two count. Both pitches on the inside part of the plate. Hitter is thinking, I don’t want to get beat here. This is a good time for something off speed away. The Nationals trailing by two. Last half of inning number five. ripped on a line and that’s a base hit. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Everything was on time and fluid in that swing. Got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock. Those always feel good. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. Now the Red’s manager is out of the dugout and will make a move to the pen. Graham Ashcraft will depart. And that’s an excellent job from the reliever in the starting role today. Gave him some length. Back with a new arm after this. Nick Martinez gets the call from the pen. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Runner on at first with one gone. Now at the plate, Riley Adams 0 for one so far. Swing and a ball popped up. Mlan makes the grab. Two down. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. So, two down now. And here is Jacob Young. Rolled out to second in his first at bat. A change up missing and that’s ball one. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Brent Sudter, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Santion getting cranked up as well. Lyle the runner at first with two gone in the dirt and now two and0. Chris with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. Two balls, one strike. [Music] That one fouled off. Two and two. Now move to first. dives back in safely. Twins and misses. It’s a strike out. Pulled the string on the change up. So, one left for Washington. They trail it here. Two nothing. And we’re back. All set for the top of the sixth. And now the first baseman, Spencer Steer. And that finds the mark on the outside corner. It’s 0 and one. Movement in the bullpen. Andrew Chaffan looks to be getting ready for Dave Martinez. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swing and a miss. And he’s down on strikes. And one out now. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. Next is the designated hitter, Noel V Marte. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Bases empty, one away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Two balls, no strikes to count. Two balls, no strikes. Fast ball is outside. [Music] Next offering in there for a strike and it’s three and one and that one in the air center field. Pulls it down and he makes the catch out number two. Now that is catcher Tyler Stevenson. Now here is Tyler Stevenson taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. This one popped up middle of the infield. House under it, brings it in for the third out. So they make short work of him there. Top of the order, two up in the home half of the six. It’s the Reds two and the Nationals nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the left fielder, Alex Call. That catches the outside corner. Strike one. Pitching has been pretty dominant in this one, but you got to be careful not working with too big a lead. They could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful. Line drive base hit right field. So a runner aboard to start the inning. Here’s Nathaniel Low. Martinez picks the first. The throw is wild and it gets away and he’s going to get to second with nobody out. Boo, you got to move your feet as footwork is so important on those pickoff throws over to first and can be a little easy to get twisted up and throw across your body and he didn’t have much of a lead over there at all. So, I doubt he was trying to do anything more than just keep him honest, which makes that error hurt even more. Misses off the play. Ball one. That one drilled left field. He dives, but he can’t make the catch. And they’re at the corners with nobody out. Well, that’s a smart decision to hold up with one out and the heart of the order coming up. Don’t want to run into an out at home plate. So, runners at the corners, nobody out. Here’s Josh Bell. And that’s in for a strike. [Music] And one side. Here’s [Music] a 1-1. Here’s Bell with a blast deep to right and it’s gone. Home run. He made him pay for that one. It’s 32. He just sent this stadium into a frenzy. They’re going nuts. That pitch was intended to stay inside, but it leaked out over the middle of the plate, hitter waited on it, and he connected just perfectly. Now, the Red’s manager is out of the dugout and will make a move to the pen. Nick Martinez gives way and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming up. We’ll be back in a minute. A new arm into the game, the righty Tony Santion. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. Now it’s Paul D. Young up to the plate. 0 for two in this one. And that one is downstairs. And it’s one outside with a breaking ball. Action in the pen down there. Brent Sudter up and throwing for Terry Francona. Rogers also throwing. Nobody out with three runs in already this frame here in the bottom of the sixth. Swing and a miss. Two and one now. Filthy change up right there. Just pulled the string. Just missed. [Music] got him swinging. I love to see guys compete and I know he’s frustrated that he wasn’t able to do anything with that pitch. You see it so well, but you have to respect the upper 90s velocity. Man, it is hard to catch up to. Garcia up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. Swings and hits one in the air out towards right field. Joe makes the grab and there’s two gone. Brady House digging in for the Nationals. That’s off the mark. And that’s ball one. Foul ball there. Little early on that fast ball. I’m sure the pitcher taking a note. Look for an off speed pitch on this next one. Missed with a change up. Two balls in a strike. Hey, two two now. And they’ll do it again. Two down. Nobody on and it remains two and two. Swings and misses. Slider got him for strike three. But the national strike for three all coming via this three-run homer. It’s now a 32 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Top of inning number seven. Here’s the third baseman, Santiago Espol. Late swing, fouled off. Swing and a chopper out to short. D. Young throws to first in time. Had the leadoff hitter set down to open the seventh. Good slider inside right there. Batter fighting to get there. Just rolled over it. Got the ground ball. Now it’s the right fielder Connor Joe had a swing and a line drive right field. Base hit and the tying run is on base. Well, that started it and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep, took the barrel right to it, and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. Here comes the skipper. And we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Andre Lara won’t go any further tonight. And as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with a new pitcher after this break. Mitchell Parker on the pitch here on for his 20th appearance of the year. One gone runner at first. TJ Fredle the next to hit for the Reds. And the first pitch misses for ball one. One out. [Music] The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. And that one fouled off. Trying to hold a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven. Here’s the pitch. Ruer goes again. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Squeezes it. Then there’s two down. Well, such a confidence boost for a reliever to come into the ball game and get the first hitter he faces. Just makes everything slow down a little bit and then from there can really settle in. Matt Mlan the next to hit for the Reds. Typically the outfield defense will play a little bit deeper just to keep the ball in front. Make sure that runner on first doesn’t come all the way around to score and tie this ball game up. Joe leads off first with two down to the inning. Next offering is in for a strike. I got one ball, one strike. Two balls in the dirt. Pitch misses and now three and one. At this point in the game, you cannot issue free passes. He’s going to have to challenge this hitter. Hitter’s got to be ready to swing it. And there’s the strike on the outside corner. Two, two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. fouled off and they’ll do it again. And a swing and a miss and that’s that. So a strong showing there from the Nats bullpen midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. It’s the Nationals three and the Reds two. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Scott Barlo. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. So digging in Denon Lyle right and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Ground ball left side. tosses to first and they get the leadoff hitter in the seventh. Up next for the National Up now for Washington, Riley Adams. Headed towards the corner and that’s a foul ball. Ball one there. That misses and it’s two and one. Just missed. just doesn’t seem to want to throw him a fast ball. Swinging a miss. Full countdown. Three and two. Got him swinging for the strikeout. Had him way out front of the slur. Two outs. Space is empty. Next to hit for the Nats, Jacob Young. And that’s in for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the seventh. That one misses. One and one. Up the middle. And that one handled. fires to first on the run. Got him. A beautiful play to end the inning. And the Nationals gone in order, but they’re up three to two. Back in Washington DC for the top of the eighth and ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Ellie Dea Cruz Parker back to work. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. Ball one. Just missed. You get to this part of the order. Yeah, there’s some pop there, but more likely there’s some base hits. So, very important to be patient. Let the pitcher walk you, if you will. And that one fouled off. looking to get the tying run on base. Pitch misses there and a count is three and one. Homeplayed umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. Swings through that. You tie a guy up like that, you’re feeling like you are in command. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another. Here’s a highf fly ball out to center. Young under this one. Puts it away for the out. Manager out of the dugout now. and he’ll make a move to dip into the nationals pen. Mitchell Parker done for the night and as he heads for the dugout. We’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. Luis Garcia gets the ball now. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. And now it’s Austin Hayes. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases. And that is downstairs. One and0. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit and that puts the tying run on base. Always feels amazing getting a job done when the team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. Just kept it simple. Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. Substitution now at first base. Coming in as a pinch runner, Will Benson. Will Benson. One down, runner at first in now for the Reds. Spencer Steer 0 for three in this one. First offering. Runner goes pitch inside. Throw and they got him. Just a mechanically sound throw right there. Great footwork, good transfer, quick release, all those things that you need to do. You don’t have to have the highest velocity, but if you can throw it on the money, you can throw out some fast runners. Two outs. Check swing and he went and count even at one. I got a ball. One strike. And that is out of play. Holding on to a one-run lead. And we’re in the top of the eighth. And a slider misses down and away. Two balls, two strikes. [Music] Gets a piece and stays alive. Two down. Nobody on. Countful. Noelv Marte in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. Nobody left for Cincinnati. And it’s still a 32 ball game. New pitcher for the Reds, Sam Mo. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Now the left fielder, Alex Call, one for three. Mole goes 5’9 in. 33 years old and he was a third round pick back in 2013. To the right side. Got him on the offbalance throw. One up, one down. Really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. Nathaniel. Nathaniel low up to hit. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. One down. Base is empty. into left center for a base hit. Clearly seeing the ball very well in this one. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. And now the switch hitting first baseman Josh Bell. Low the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Next offering is fouled back. [Music] Next offering is downstairs. We got two ball, one strike. turned on but foul wide of third. One-run game, one out, one on. That missed by a lot and it’s three and two. And ball four, two aboard. So, next will be the fourhole hitter for the Nationals. Paul De Young 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Just a bit tardy there. Not sure if he had a hard time picking it up out of the hand or if he was sitting off speed. That one misses. One ball, one strike. A short stop takes the ball. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. One out. Runners at first and second. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can forget it. [Music] His second of the year and they throw three on the board. It’s 62. That was blasted. Absolutely no doubt off the bat. [Music] knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. [Applause] Manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Sam Mole is done. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. New pitcher on now, Brent Sudter. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season, so this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. So, one out, nobody on the batter now, Luis Garcia. And there’s a foul ball. Swinging a miss at a slider. 02 is the count. That misses the zone and the count one and two. I’m not sure how he took that right there. I mean, that was an incredible two- strike pitch. And foul ball. Still only one out here in the inning. Fast is outside. [Music] He goes down looking. Well, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. Really locked him up. And as a hitter, it’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. Hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called the ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. Now the third baseman, Brady House. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Swing and a ground ball. And that one gets through into center field. And that keeps the inning alive. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Dalon Lyle getting ready to hit in the air right field. Joe sizing this one up. Makes the grab and that is that. But the biggest swing of the inning comes right here. for a three-run homer. Last chance coming up for the Reds. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Cole Henry. He last pitched two days ago. So now here’s the DH Noel V Martel V Mart. First pitch not close. The Nationals have some action going in the pen. Andrew Chaffen looks to be getting ready for Dave Martinez. Ferrer also getting ready. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Two and0. And a strike in there. In this situation, you expect the batters to be a little more patient, possibly take until they get a strike. With that, you don’t want to miss your opportunity to get ahead early in the count. He didn’t right there. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. No throw and he’s out at first. Everything came together for him. So much of good hitting is finding holes in the defense. That’s why you’re always thinking line drive into the gap. Those kinds of swings really boost your confidence. So, a man aboard and here’s the catcher, Tyler Stevenson. And that one upstairs, ball one. [Music] The one rolled to short. Possible two ball. There’s one over the first, but he beats it. He’s two outs away. Santiago Espino the next to hit for the Reds. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. His first homer of the year. It’s 6-4. Singi. He’s been waiting for this moment to finally come. Well, we knew it would come eventually, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him go on a nice little run at the plate, hitting some balls out of the ballpark. He’s got that monkey off his back. Well, he went up there o looking to do damage. I think he had his sight set on that pitch. He went and got it and circled the bases. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Cole Henry won’t go any further. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout and we’ll be back with a new pitcher. So they turn to their closer Kyle Fit again. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tried to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Base is empty, one away. Connor Joe the next to hit for the Reds. That one off the mark and that is ball one. Two runs across in the inning here in the top of the ninth. And a foul ball. check swing and he went and it’s one and two. One ball, two strikes. This to third. The Reds now down to their final out. Those plays can be tricky. They’re routine, but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth. He delivered a good play right there. TJ Fredle the next to hit. There’s the strike. Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days. I never would have had a chance. And that’s in for a strike. Finnegan is just one strike away. Two outs. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. just off the outside edge. That turns out to be a really good take right there. But you don’t want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder. Two down on two. just outside and the count’s full. Pressure Mountain right here with the tying run in the on deck circle. He’s got to find the strike zone. The 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. That’s a tough one to swallow right there. If you’re on the mound, you’re end the count 02 and you just couldn’t find a way to put him away. It’s going to be frustrating if that one comes back to bite him. Mlan stands in now and watches strike one. That split is a pretty nasty pitch. Explodes out of the hand. Looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it. right side and this should do it. Steps on the bag himself. Ball game. Nice work out of the ripin for that first MLB land game. They turn to him when they didn’t have the lead. He kept things steady and he’s rewarded with the W. And this one ends with a final score of six to four for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shiy saying so long. Heat. [Music] Heat.
