MLB LIVE🔴 San Diego Padres vs Miami Marlins – Jul 22, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

just about ready to roll and towing the slab here, Yuri Perez. Base runners are tough to come by with him out there, Chris. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Fernando Tatis Jr. the leadoff batter as he swings through for strike one. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. The first batter of the game leaves the yard. The Padres’s score first. It’s one- nothing. Two pitches, two swings. That one for a home run. Looking to be aggressive all the way. And it paid off for him in a big way. Well, we see this so much more today. lineups with pop in the leadoff spot and it really puts the pitcher in a tough spot out there where he has to execute right away. You can’t just get over a couple of strikes to settle in, get comfortable because at the plate that guy’s looking to do exactly what he just did. Start the game off with a huge bang. Luis Arise stands in [Applause] and a first pitch fast is in for a strike. Here’s a batter who for whatever reasons plays better on the road and that should help him here today. [Applause] Now one and one with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered. He’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters. The one-1 is fouled off. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. This one chopped to first. Hicks and he takes it himself for the out. As we take a look at the Padres’s lineup and Singy, I’m a bit surprised to see this many righties in a lineup against a right-hander. Yeah, you’re not the only one, Boo. I’m a bit surprised as well. And you know, some hitters work well against same-handed pitching. You know, just back in 2024, Bobby Wit Jr., Vlad Guerrero Jr., and Aaron Judge all had higher batting averages against righties than they did against lefties. So, maybe they got a plan after all. Manny Machado stands in now and watches strike one. [Applause] And Manny gets a piece. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That’s foul off to the right side. keeps the AB going. One out. Base is empty and down on strikes. Two gone now. So he gets the call and picks up the strike out looking. Sometimes with a good hitter at the plate, he’ll be the one to get the benefit of the doubt if he lays off on a close pitch like that, but just not right there. Strike zone definitely expand a little bit with two strikes. Two down, base is empty. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Xander Bogarts. Right through there for a strike. [Applause] [Applause] The shorts stop takes the ball. Two outs. Base is empty. [Applause] On the ground to the left. Slings it across. Bogart’s retired. Third out, but the Padres’s draw first blood here on the solo shot. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in Miami and on the hill, U Darvish. What do we have on him? Yeah, he’s definitely had a struggle so far this year as evidenced by that inflated whip. But he’s going to have to find a way to limit the base runners, put his team in position to win a ball game. So, we know he’s prepared. We know this guy’s a competitor, and we’ll watch how he works in this one. Xavier Edwards leading things off and takes a strike. Come on, Xavier. That one finds the zone and that’s strike two. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. The other way and out number one on the grab and time now for the Marlins lineup. And so far this year, this has not been a very good offense. Well, in this day and age, if you can’t slug and get on base, that OPS has to be at a certain level if you’re going to produce runs. Give your pitchers an opportunity as they’re facing tough offenses as well. Now, Jesus Sanchez. Yeah, big swing and a miss. Sometimes a hitter will go up there and guess. And it’s not just pulling something out of the sky, but expecting because of tendencies a certain pitch in a certain location. He just guessed for all. That’s a hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Batting third. So digging in Ramirez. Ramirez. [Applause] Slider misses outside. Come on, let’s keep it going. Fast ball for a strike. And it’s one and one. The one-1 is fouled off. [Music] And a good eye there. Really good take especially with two strikes in the dirt. And an excellent job keeping it right there. Sanchez the base runner at first with one out. Ground ball right side. Could be two to second. There’s one. And that’s two. One hit in the inning, but no one left. Second inning coming up here in South Florida. It’s the Padres’s one and the Marlins nothing. Back here at Lone Depot Park, here’s the center fielder, Jackson Merrill. Take it high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform, but at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. 0 and one. 0 and one. [Music] Swinging a foul out of play. That’s down and in. A slider missed. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. And that’s downstairs. The count two and two. Great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two. Such a better feeling for the hitter. Next offering upstairs. Think he wanted that call on the upper part of the zone, but just didn’t get it. Now he’s just trying to get a better feel for how much it missed. So he can adjust his sights just a little bit. Battling here as he fouls it away. [Applause] Punch him out. 3-2 and a swing and a miss and quickly one away in the second. He had him out in front which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. [Applause] Here’s the veteran second baseman, Jose Glacius. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. strike three and that’s two in a row. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. He got three straight fast balls looking in the 02 count just to pour it back. Luis Compucusano in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Got the bat going too soon at strike two. Just a really nice slider down and in there. He wants to get the hitter thinking fast ball. Speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Throw to first. That completes the strike out. And that’ll do it. After an inning and a half, it’s one- nothing. We head to the bottom of the second. Now it’s the DH Kyle St. Stard Darvish back to work. Splits the plate. Strike one. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger. And perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit. Assigned to home plate duty is Ricky Holiday. And something I’ve heard players saying about Ricky’s strike zone is how he will call the high strike. That could be something that’s tough to deal with, especially if you’ve got a pitcher out there coming at you with high velocity. Chris, do players ever change their approach in meaningful ways based on who’s umpiring or is it good to just be aware of tendencies so you’re not that surprised? I’d say the latter because pitchers got to pitch to his strengths regardless. The hitters got to hit to his strength. So, you’re aware of it, but you have to just hunt for what you can handle. [Music] And at the plate for Miami, Otto Lopez definitely scuffling at the dish lately under the Mendoza line so far this month. In for a strike. Good slider. One down. Base is empty. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. [Music] Lopez started after it. Tried to hold up. Now a look to first. It did not go around. Darbish delivers a short stop. Takes the ball in the dirt and now it’s three and two. Gets a piece and stays alive. [Music] the kick, the 3-2, and that’s ball four. Tried another slider, but it missed the plate. Didn’t miss by much right there. Just couldn’t get the call off the inside. Up next, Liam Hicks. That’s in there. And that’s strike one. One’s the count. Darvis checks on the runner. Lopez dives back in safely. Tying run is at first. Bottom half of inning number two. Strike two. I think he was sitting off speed there. 02 is the count. goes down looking. Well, you could tell he wasn’t expecting that ball to break back in on him. He may have been looking for something away, maybe something soft, but that slider on the inside corner absolutely frozen. And now for the Marlins, Dane Meyers. And downstairs, Lopez off of first with two away. And that’s through there for a strike. And the count one and one. Next offering is fouled back. Come on. Swing and a miss. And that is that. Marlins leave one and it remains one- nothing. And we’re back onto the third inning. Stepping in for San Diego. Bryce Johnson. Johnson. Johnson measures 6 feet even 29 years old and he was a sixthround draft pick back in 2017. That’s to third. Paulie sends it across to first and one away in the top of the third. Batting n the catcher number 17, Elias Diaz. Here’s Elias Diaz. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. [Applause] [Music] Swinging a foul straight back. One down. Base is empty. That one in the dirt. Going to count one and two. And that’s outside. Two strikes. Good job to fight that one off. Now to short. Now he launches a throw over his head and it’s going to wind up out of play. Short stops have to make some pretty difficult throws across the field sometimes. Might have tried to put a little too much behind that one, but clearly he got under the throw. Didn’t stay on top. Not a good release point and it just took off on him. So man aboard, one down and it’s Tatis at the plate. He’s already homerred here in this one. That misses and that’s ball one. With Tatis at the plate, we’re looking at a player that is never going to be considered boring. He’s an electric player that manages to make plays most players wouldn’t consider trying. And he plays the game his own way. It’s a big reason why he’s considered such a fan favorite. Kicks and fires. Squirts away a little bit. Two and0 to count. Here it comes. That one missed and ball four to a board. He’s making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound, but you know, his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this, but he’s going to have to buckle down right here. First and second, one out. Now, the number two hitter, Luis Az for one so far. [Applause] That one’s in there. 0 and one. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the count so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. Next pitch is downstairs. Way to lay off that pitch down. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. Late swing, fouled to the left. [Applause] Two on, one out. And there’s a ball to the right side. Slings to first in time. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Here comes Manny Machado. struck out looking at his first at check swing. Did he go? No, he didn’t. [Music] [Applause] And it’s one and one. Really consistent release point. He’s been able to pitch up and down and have excellent command in both locations. [Applause] Next offering is down low. [Applause] Strike on the inside corner. And the next pitch is way outside. Xander Bogarts on deck for the Padres’s. Two outs, two in scoring position. We’re here in the top half of inning number three [Applause] on the ground. zips it across. Machado out on the play that ends the frame. Padres’s leave a pair, but they’re on top one- nothing ready to go for the last half of the inning. And at the plate for Miami, Graham Pley ripped to short. snagged on a bounce. The throw to first, one gone. Bottom of the third inning. Batting night, the catcher, Nick Forte. Here’s the catcher, Nick Forez. You can do it, Nick. Come on. This one in the air right field and he makes the catch. Two down. Now batting the second baseman, Xavier Xavier Edwards, the next up for the Marlins. Bunch attempt, but that goes foul. And that one in the air center field. Merrill makes the grab and that’s the inning. All set for the start of the inning. And now the short stop Xander Bogarts. Bogart. Bogart’s who wears that number two on his back for his idol Derek Jeter. Next offering is in for a strike. He’s been pitching well, but going through this middle of the order second time through, we’ll see what kind of adjustments are being made late on that fast ball. I guess you throw it that hard, you can get away with locations like that right down the middle. But I still think it’s a dangerous pitch. Don’t want to do it again. Got him swinging now. Five strikeouts for him on the mound. Jackson Merrill the next up for the Padres’s 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. [Applause] And that is in for a strike 0 and one. Generally second, third time through the lineup, you want to be able to lean on those secondary pitches and command them. Looks like he’s doing a nice job of it. And that is cut on and miss. [Music] [Applause] Comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt. Forez collects, fires to first, gets the out. Two down after the strikeout. Well, classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out. That fast ball on the pitch before was up. It was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder, but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can’t make contact. And now Jose Glaciius, that one not close. And that is ball one. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. And another ball. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. Swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field. Sanchez makes the play and it’s out number three. Nothing doing here this half. And midway in the fourth, it’s the Padres’s one and the Marlins nothing. Bottom of the fourth. And now the right fielder Jesus Sanchez just missed. [Applause] in the air. Left field down the line and that’s a foul ball. This one lifted in the air left field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s one down. Up next for the Marlin, the center fielder August. Augustine Ramirez now at the plate. He hit it to a double play his first time up. Let’s do this Miami. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and2. Home team down a run. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. That’s outside now. One and two. [Music] [Applause] One down. Base is empty. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. Now batting the next is the designated hitter, Kyle Sters. His first at bat was a strikeout. [Music] climb the ladder with that fast ball going one. Not sure if he could be in more of a groove. Looks really relaxed. He’s retired seven straight. This guy’s feeling it right now. Next offering is in for a strike. Cut out and miss. Struck him out. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Nothing doing for the Marlins. They’re down one- nothing. Back here in Miami, we go to the top of the fifth. And now the DH Luis Compusano. And there’s one thing on his mind this at bat. Getting that first hit at the big league level. And that drops in for a strike. All in one. Just missed. I got a ball. One strike. [Music] Ball two. [Music] Yeah, there’s the strike that just misses. Full countdown. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Highf fly ball lifted into right field. Sanchez puts it away for the out and there’s one away. The batter, the left fielder, Rice Rice Johnson getting ready to hit. Grounded out his first time. Oh, can’t get out of the way of the fast ball. And that’s going to sting. the catcher number 17. And now it’s Elias Diaz. Diaz. Come on, let’s get the ground. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes strike in there. Throw to second. Tag out at second. Now, I got to admit, I’m kind of shocked he got caught stealing right there because of how big the lead was over at first base. catcher doesn’t throw very well either, but for whatever reasons, things came together and they got the out at second. Really impressive job, I’d say. Out to short, whips it to first. And that is the inning. Padres’s go down quietly, but they still lead it one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. We head to the bottom of the fifth and the batter will be the shortstop. Otto Lopez [Applause] Darvish back to work. That is upstairs for ball one. The shorts stop takes the ball swinging a chopper arise onto first and that’s the first out in the bottom of the fifth. The first baseman number 34 Ling And up next for Miami, Liam Hicks caught looking his first time up [Music] and that’s downed away. Counts one and0 [Applause] way inside. Bounding ball here. Rolls. Foul. The Padres’s leading by a run. Last half of inning number five. Line drive makes the grab and there’s two gone. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Dane Meyers the next up for the Marlins struck out swinging his first time. outside low ball one. He’s controlling things out there on the mound. Not messing around at all. He’s been in attack mode since the very start. Next offering is downstairs. Last couple of pitches, breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Miami. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Two balls, one strike. That’s ball three. Here’s an opportunity to do some damage and perhaps unlock this offense. 3-1 count. Be ready to turn on a fast ball. And here’s a 3-2. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Now batting the third base. Only two hits allowed so far tonight, Boog. So I don’t think that one will disrupt his momentum all that much. You know, he’s really been on top of his game, commanding his pitches all night long. So, a man at first. Here’s the third baseman, Graham Paulie. He’s 0 for one. First pitch just misses. And another ball. [Applause] Next offering upstairs. Well, I would expect in this three 0 count you’re taking all the way. See if they’ll walk you. Nick Forz in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Darvish kicks, delivers, and that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter, not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. That one fouled off. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. called strike three on the fast ball and that ran back over the inner half. He continues to roll on the mound as five shutout innings are in the books. It’s the Padres’s one and the Marlins nothing. Back here at Lone Depot Park, top six up now. The Padre leadoff man, Fernando Tatiz Jr. Tatis Jr. And that one sliced foul. Fernando Tatiz Jr. was signed by the White Socks 2015 for $700,000 and then eventually moved in the James Shields trade in June of 2016. Signs of activity in the pen for the Marlins. Cal Quattro, the right-handed sinker baller. He looks to be readying himself. Number 66, a left-hander also throwing and it is two to one. Fast ball for a strike. Hon misses. It’s a strike out. He just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up and two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Next for the Padres’s, Luis Arise. And that one clips the corner. Arise in his sixth season, 27 years old. And he was born in Venezuela. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Gets off a throw and it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. Fast ball grew right down the middle. Usually a lot of damage done with that pitch. A hard grounder, but he wanted to get that ball in the air. Maybe drive it into the gap. Machado in the box for the third time today as he takes that one off the plate. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. Fly ball down the line and that’s a base hit. Now batting shortstop Xander Bogar. Here comes X to the plate. Bowl for two in this one. First pitch misses. Machado, the runner at first with two gone. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. If you’re not ready for that pitch, you’re just going to swing and miss or pop it up, waste the at bat. You’re going to let it go. You better be ready to swing it. The 2-2 and a foul ball. He stays alive. Two outs. That misses the zone. And now three and two. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. [Music] Sea strikes him out for the second time today. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the sixth. It’s the Padres’s one and the Marlins nothing. And we’re back to the sixth inning. Now it’s the Marlins catcher, Nick Forez. Well, these fans definitely want to get involved in the game. All it’s going to take is to get the lead off man or even a base runner on outside low. And that’s ball one. Ball one. No strike. [Music] Just missed. [Music] [Music] and that one fouled off. right side steps on first for the out. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. So, digging in, Xavier Edwards. Ball one there. That one close rule the ball and it’s two and0. No strike. There’s a swing and a drive. Stretches out and holds it in. Man, that’s one of those bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it. But in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. Yeah, a foul ball. Highf fly ball right field. Tatis makes the catch. Inning over. Make it six shut out innings for him out there. Now it’s the Padres’s one and the Marlins nothing. Calantrol taking over on the mound. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Well, one run game. So, digging in now for San Diego, Jackson Merrill. Merrill. [Music] Knee high. That’s in for a strike. [Applause] [Music] That one hammered but pulled fouled. Next pitch misses way outside. Lined and that’s a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. The batter number seven, second base. Now it’s going to be Jose Glacius lays down a bunt to the right side. Here’s Lopez for one. Not in time at first. It’s a fieldielder’s choice. The batter, the designated hitter, Luis Compusano. So here’s the Padres’s DH. Luis Compucusano and the first pitch misses for ball one. One-run game. One out, one on. That one hooked fouled. [Applause] Here comes the pitch. Runner breaks for second. Headed towards the corner. Did he trip? What happened? Sniper. Great effort. That’s how bad he wanted that one. Head first dive. And that is a good eye on a pitch down low. Two balls, two strikes. On the ground, left side. Six four out three double play and the inning is over. No runs, one hit, no errors and no one left. Midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. It’s the Padres’s one and the Marlins nothing. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Jason Adam. Well, you see the RA very solid and that doesn’t always tell you the whole story, but he’s been really good so far this year. 345 do up for the home team. And now for the Marlins, Augustine Ramirez. Ramirez. [Applause] Yeah. first offering a fast ball for a strike. [Applause] And that one upstairs, ball one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Wandi Peralta, the left-hander, is getting that big fast ball of his ready to go. [Applause] [Music] looking to get the tying run on base. Line drive, base hit. Always feels amazing getting the job done when the team needs you to come through. It’s just bigger than your own individual stats. I don’t know how he’s able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it. That pitch was inside and he let it get really deep. So pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it. No outs. Runner at first. Next to hit, Kyle Sters. Swing and a miss. Strike one. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in scoring position. [Applause] And that one is in for a strike with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay on the double play right here. 0 and two now. Oh, one with the go ahead run at the plate here in the bottom of the seventh. to short. Could be two. The Glaciius. That’s one. Back to first. And that is a double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big figures. They make tough plays look simple. Lopez. Now it’s the shortstop. Otto Lopez. That misses and it’s one and0. strike one. One and one. The one-1 is fouled off. [Music] Two down. Nobody on keeps the attack going with a foul ball. Cut out and miss. Struck him out. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. And the Marlins down quietly. They still trail one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. We’re in the top of the eighth. Here’s the left fielder, Bryce Johnson. Well, both sides equally as strong. So, not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. And ball one. One ball, one strike in for a strike. And a count. One and two. Inside. Just missed. Swanging a ball line to center. No trouble here. Puts it away for the eye. One down. Elias stepping in. Elias Diaz and the pitch a little bit low. Ball one. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the eighth. line to left. Meyers pulls it down and there’s two gone. The batter, the right fielder, Fernando Tatis Jr. And the batter will be Fernando Tatis Jr. He had a big swing for these guys way back in the first inning. Yeah, Boo. He didn’t waste any time in this one. The solo shot really got his team going and he’s looking for more right here. pitch is in there and it’s 0 and one. That split is a pretty nasty pitch. Explodes out of the hand. Looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it. Hammered down the right side but fouled. Man, this has been a real important inning in relief. I mean, so far they’ve been doing a great job holding that deficit at one. Next pitch is outside. Just misses with that one. And the curve is down and in. in the air right side and that should be extra bases. Makes the turn and heads for second in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. The first baseman number four, Luis Aras. Luis Araz the next up for the Padres’s 0 for three with three ground outs. Slow roller to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So they can’t do anything with a two out double. Last half of the eighth coming up. It’s the Padres’s one and the Marlins nothing. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Wii Peralta. He’s been so good against lefties. Number 58, Wy Peralta. And now the first base, Liam. The first baseman, Leah Hicks. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Bullpen action for the Padres’s. Robert Suarez, the anchor of the staff, is getting ready to close this one out. Jacob getting cranked up as well. So, two balls and no strikes. Two balls, no strikes. Outside does feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Dane Meyers in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Change up on the corner at the knees on the ground right side. Throw off line. He’s safe and a nice job there to keep it from getting away. Looked to me like he got on the side of the ball a little too much right there. Maybe a little too casual as well with the throwing motion. And when you don’t stay on top of the ball and really get out front and finish with a good release point, it’s very easy to lose control of it to either side. So up next, Dane Meyers, one for two. Right through there for a strike, holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. That one hit to right. Tatis drifts towards it. Makes the grab. One away. Now batting third baseman Grab Paulie. And at the plate for Miami, Graham Paulie. A little surprised we don’t see a pinch hitter here, but the lefty lefty matchup. [Applause] And that one misses up and in. And that’s ball one. And that is out of play. [Applause] Ground ball right side and that chance handled. only play is at first on the throw from shallow right and there’s two away. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. Nick Forez the next up for the Marlins. Little chopper rolls foul. So the tying run at second. Swing and a miss. That is strike two. Very solid inning on the mound so far here in the eighth. Holding on to this narrow lead. This is exactly what they were looking for. And now one and two. [Applause] [Applause] Breaking ball misses down and away. Savior Edwards in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen. [Music] Oh, he can’t hang on. And now they’ll have runners on the corners with two legs. So, two outs with runners on the corners. Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here. That one missed. Well, this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter. You can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Fires to first on the run. to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. Such great concentration. Everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing. And there he doesn’t try to do too much. So the go-ahehead run is into scoring position. Sanchez will hit next. One for three and fouled off. [Applause] First and second, two down. [Music] swinging a ground ball and that’s a fair ball. Runner around third. He will score and the Marlies have the lead. A second scores as well and they lead by two. Got to be feeling great about that double. big spot and he drives in two. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. And the Padres’s manager making his way towards the mound as he will make the move. Wandi Peralta gives way and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for out of the bullpen for the Padres’s, Alec. Well, home runs have been a problem this year. Not doing a great job keeping the ball in the yard so far this season. So, we’ll see if that factors in. And up next for Miami, Augustine Ramirez [Applause] just missed. All one, no strikes. Ruer at second, two down. [Applause] Ramirez tries to hold up. Appeal to first and he went around according to Daryl Parker. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Man on second, two down. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. But three score in the inning. Two of them on this two-run double. Last chance coming up for the Padres’s. pitching. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Ronnie Enriquez and he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the post this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits period. Manny Machado up to the third base number 13, Manny Machado. Yeah, big swing and a miss. Well, in this one, the offense has sputtered. Somebody’s got to find a way to get on, keep the line moving, and manufacture at least one run. Then maybe you get two or three. Next pitch is downstairs. [Applause] Swinging a miss. and he got him and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Well, that right there is what you want to see out of your closer. Come in and close the door, cancel any hope that that opponent has in making some type of comeback in the ball game. Tell you what, that helps him settle in and that helps everybody else relax a little bit to get these other two outs. Bogarts the next to hit takes ball one. The fish up by two here in the top of the ninth. just missed. [Applause] Close but called a ball. And that’s ball three. Fast ball for a strike. One way to make a guy real uncomfortable at the plate is pound him inside with good velocity. They’re doing that right here. [Applause] Swing and a pop up. Foul territory for the catcher. For makes the ground and there are two outs. Last chance for the Padres’s stepping in for San Diego. Jackson Merrill. [Applause] Strike on the inside corner. It’s 0 and one. Fouled off to the right. [Music] Enriquez is just one strike away. Breaking ball inside. Now one and two. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. And that is the ball game. All these players were able to take the lead in the bottom of the eighth and just cruise to this win, getting those final three outs in the top of the ninth. Excellent job of securing your home field and keeping the fans in the ball game all the way to the end. Nice W all the way around and your final 3-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
