Chicago Cubs vs. Kansas City Royals MLB game highlights (July 23, 2025) l Marquee Sports Network

Hey, welcome to Cubs baseball here on Marquee Sports Network. This afternoon, the Cubs go for the series win as they take on the Royals here at Wrigley. Sentiment, but this group is doing a real nice job so far here in the second half. Very, very, very small sample. Solid work. Colin Ray ready to work. Adam Frasier in the first offering of the game. misses below the strike zone for ball one and we are underway. Field play Frasier to pull and this one hit in the air towards the right field corner. Suzuki say oh it’s off his glove. [Music] [Applause] E9 to begin the game. has not had a lot of time out there this year, but obviously a ball that needs to be caught. Has to make a late reaction to it and can’t secure the baseball. Could see some problems today. It’s very windy. Yeah, it just it does not make a whole ton of sense. This one drilled right field. That one back on its way and that quickly it is two to nothing. Vinnie Pasquentino with home run number 16. [Applause] The Royals hit four of them here in the opener of this series. That was a a day in which the night in which the wind was not really helping but out of here this afternoon. Last ball up inner third at 94. jumps all over Perez. So, two nothing Royals in the early going. That one softly hit a liner into left and that’s a base hit. Sacrificial team player. Order collects the big hop. Green is out but damage done. The lefty gets ready. Vinnie Pasquantino gives the Royals a two nothing lead. That is hammered into right field and a base hit. Speedy leadoff man aboard my boy. Five ball left center field. That one. Ra is there to pull down and the Cubs can’t do anything with a leadoff single. End of one. It’s two zip. Oh, I tried. I’m just not that good of a guarder. Shocker did work for Wade. Excellent stuff to our ushers and vendor. You know how they have those meetings and somebody started yelling at him, “Hey, you can’t take that.” Called strike three. Is Bell is gone. And there’s two away. He apologized. I’m sorry. I just wanted to collect some Ivy. That’s back to back punch outs. Maybe later. Short hop gathered in by stretch at first save. And the first base umpire Alonso Marquez saying Bushy came off the bag. There’s a little bit of a two seamer that’s running away from Bush. And yeah, Michael gets back to the back. There he goes. Drill down to second. Tag safe. Armstrong ranging back and has it. And the top of the second comes to a close. Two nothing Royals. Pitch batting average. This is what the Cubs do against the first pitch. Hack take his base on the ground up the middle and that one flagged down by Garcia, but he’s got no play. Two aboard and nobody out. So at some point you have to kind of change your strategy and just make a pitch. One hop to third. Tolbert to second. turn to first two and he gets the double play. So two out on the strike man at third. Two down ball the middle of the base hit and Maguire knocks in the run and it’s 2-1 as I in half. Challenge Shaw here. He preferred not to go 3-2 with a man on first base. Chopped up the middle. Frasier Shaw is out. The Cubs get on the board. Two-1. Long drive out towards right center field. That’s going to touch down and roll. And it banks off a hefty side. Dro Armstrong retrieves it quickly and it’s a one out double for Pasquantino. Highfly ball left field. Pap is back. Pack near the wall. And that will find the bleachers. And Salvador Perez has done it again. His third home run in this series. And it is 4-1. Number 18. Eight in his last 11 ball games. Number 18 on the season. [Applause] This year gets him. And now two seam fast ball that they’re trying to go out away from him and runs into the car up and in. I think might have been a good pitch for that one down where he could drop the head on it. Outside corner. Got him. And Ray strikes out Kagg Leone. And there’s two down. Really beautiful pitch here. You see McGuire set up over the outside corner and Ray [Music] hits the spot a dart at 94 work on his swing. Bounce towards first and Michael Bush [Applause] almost did it. That got him. Yeah. Yeah. And it’s hit in to the second baseman who holds it. And uh Se is out at first. Michael Bush moves to second. Bush should be on the move. And a single fly ball to left and it is not caught by the left fielder. Bush is coming home. Kelly to second. Wow, that’s great. Uh fly ball to center and caught by the Royal center fielder. So had a had a great time. Softly on the ground. Bush has it. Ray gets over. One, two, three. What’s that? Had to get over that time. You got to get over into baseball. Yeah. Okay. and Swanson will take his base. But I I’ve never I’ve never had a long Never had the pleasure of Yeah. on the ground. Frasier takes it in and throws out her. The Chief. The Chief on the ground. Garcia throws him out and Lugo pitches around a leadoff walk. We played four and it’s 4-2 KC. I think also if you let me be Clark the Cub for a day, it’s an easy 20 lbs. I lose. Liner into center field. Pete Cole Armstrong takes it in and with one out, Garcia is a board. You don’t get him. Reled out towards right center. Pete Cole Armstrong back some more and it’s gone. Pasquantino having a day. his second homer of the afternoon to go along with a double. And it is 62. [Applause] They had been trying to jam him with cutters. This time it looks like a slider that’s right over the heart of the plate. [Applause] Frustration for the 10 fly ball left field Ian Hack and that is out number three but Pasquantino does it again and he struck him out. Lugo gets him one, two, three. It’s six in a row set down. We’ll head to the sixth and it’s 62. Pomeran’s ready and Ray. Did he go? You bet. [Applause] Yeah, that one hits Isel. Fly ball left field. Cat turning looking and it’s gone. And Tyler Tolbert with a homer. His first big league home run. The second four home run game for the Royals in this series. We’ve talked a lot about at the bottom of the lead or this this series in Chicago. That fast ball moving in on him a little bit, but Cobert able to get the head on it and drive it out of here. [Music] Frasier down on strikes and the Royals are done in their half of the six. But they add two and make it 8-2. Two outs, bases empty. Lugo deals. Oh boy. And Lugo strikes him out. And he strikes out five in a row and he’s set down nine straight. Change. Presley has it. Flips over to Bush. Consecutive punch outs. Oh boy. Shaw drills that one center field. That one back and it’s gone. Matt Shaw into the bleachers in center field and the Cubs get a run back and they trail at 83 on Shaw’s fifth. Now the uh little run that Matt Shaw is on here. Very positive development the second half of the season. And finally the Cubs get one up in the air. Run replay brought to you by Toyota. Official vehicle of the Chicago Cubs right down the middle and lifted it out of here. [Applause] Bush pops it in the air. Shallow left field. Garcia out and Rave in to make the catch. The 3-2 and that is in there. We can look that up. There are a fair ball. Krisky gets over. It’s two strikes. Here it comes. Swinging a ball. Lifted in the air right field. That’s back and that’s gone. Pete Crow Armstrong with a homer and it’s a four for PCA. Home run number 27. It had been a quiet day after that swing in the bat from PCA. Offly out strikeout and then a line drive home run. 27th time Armstrong has taken that leisurely jog around the bases. And this home run is brought to you by Hefty. Hefty Hefty Ultra Strong. Ultra low price. And Jenny, when he gets it in the air to the pull side, if there’s ever any question, is it going to get out? I think the one thing that we found half will take his walk and he’ll take it to two and he got on the swing, threw a fast ball and Swanson is gone. the Kansas City Monarchs to the legendary Negro team. And India as they appealed on the check swing will take his base. In towards third. It’s a good one. Shaw can’t field it cleanly and everybody’s safe. It’ll be an infield single. Really have to crash into the wall for it to stick on the uniform, but when it does, it’s tough. Swanson picks it throws the first in time. Has out is going to get an intentional walk here. They like the way that fork ball plays against left-handed hitters. And they also don’t like the way Sal Perez has been swinging the bat. Back to the pitcher Christie and Kegle retired. Line drive caught at third and that’s the ball game. Shaw lines out to end it and the Royals come in to Wrigley and take two of three from the Cubs. And it wasn’t necessarily the starting pitching that led the way for the Royals. That’s been a strength of their team all year long. It was the power that showed up in a big way for Kansas City. Four home runs on Monday, four more here today. And the Cubs drop a a set to the Kansas Cities. [Music]

  1. Noone could realistically expect the massive offensive output to continue. Or the stellar work they got from castoff bullpen guys to continue. Things look bad now but the right acquisitions could save them.

  2. Stop wasting damn games and get 2 pitchers already! What the hell are u waiting till July 30th for. Tired of seeing are starting pitchers besides imanaga and Boyd (sometimes Horton) give up home runs off there terrible hanging balls right over the plate! Brewers are taking this division if u guys don’t at least get something decent

  3. Cubs are not a serious contender. Absolutely unacceptable to lose to the shitty Royals. They have a good record but I have no faith in them if they make the playoffs.

  4. Everyone screaming for 2 pitchers and a 3rd baseman. Who are you trading to get all of that?
Teams are wanting a lot in return. That is why there have been no deals made aside from Devers forcing Boston's hand to deal him.
