What a mess.

The right decision.
In fairness she didn’t want this. She took her plea deal from hockey Canada and the general public demanded this trial extending pain and grief for all. If these guys aren’t guilty they’ve lost a fortune basically because us Canadians forced a trail.
This whole situation sucks for everyone. Everyone should take this as a lesson to be extremely careful around alcohol.
Terrible situation, correct verdict.
The whole thing is gross.
I think the boys were used to “puck bunnies” and in some of the instances overstepped (Dube slapping her ass hard for example)
These guys need to grow up. I imagine if they have daughters one day that they wouldn’t want her to be in the same situation.
Doesn’t matter how credible or not the complainant is, the court of public opinion have already convicted, long before they read any facts.
I swear, some of you just decided that these guys were guilty and are now just dismissing everything that suggests they weren’t guilty.
>Carroccia is addressing the consent videos, which are two clips McLeod recorded after the alleged assaults.
>In the videos, McLeod asks E.M. if she is OK with what is happening or consented to the acts that had already happened in the hotel room.
>E.M. did “not display any signs of intoxication” in the videos and had “no difficulty speaking,” the judge says. She’s also “not sluffing her words, and speaks clearly and coherently.”
>E.M. also said she didn’t remember recording the videos until they were shown to her by lawyers.
>She testified McLeod told her what to say on camera, and although she said on video that everything was consensual, that is not how she felt at the time and it was just another example of her going along with what the men wanted.
There was literally a video of her giving consent, and the judge said that she did not find EM’s claim of the events being nonconsensual as “noncredible and unreliable”.
Court of Reddit is going to be very upset by this outcome
its shitty for everyone involved. But looking at the evidence I can see how the judge got to this conclusion. Still shitty behavior by the boys for sure, criminal? doesn’t seem like it. Hope everyone can learn and move forward as better people.
Before anyone acts like this is a case where the woman lied for no reason the fact of the matter is
1) she didn’t agree to be in that situation in a room full of dudes.
2) the way things happened went down in the exact same way that many other women have unfortunately gotten abused by other junior hockey teams
3) they clearly were being weird about it in their group chat.
In the end there is enough doubt they found I guess to not label these guys as guilty but slamming the lady here for any reason is just flat out stupidity.
What a tremendous amount of time and a waste of careers. EM regretted her actions and decided to ruin a bunch of guys lives.
Big shoutout to all the men facing false accusations from women who believe consent can be revoked after the fact. This trial was a critical blow to each of these players and their public perception and the defendant absolutely deserved to be shown like this in a public court. Hundreds to thousands of innocent men are charged in cases like this each year and I am more than happy to see a public occurrence that brings light to the issue. We must take allegations seriously to prevent rampant sexual abuse, but when cases like this are proven to be false, we must make them as public as possible.
I said these guys would get off months ago and was just attacked. This should have never even goten this far at all
I am a woman that has experienced a sexual assault, it’s terrible. However, I still have these beliefs….
– Consent can be revoked at anytime
– False accusations are vile and heinous
– People (all genders and oreintations) need to learn to keep hands/body parts to themselves unless explicitly granted permission
– Regret isn’t sexual assault
– If you have alcohol fueled sex, details might be hazy and parties will end up with regrets.
– Sexual Assault is one of the worst crimes in the world.
– All parties are innocent until proven guilty
– Everybody is entitled to fair trial.
Justice
So many people were so quick to say the consent video only exists because players felt guilt. But given the political climate of the time, with metoo in full swing, it seems like common sense for an athlete/celebrity to have some evidence of consent for any casual encounter at all. These guys may be selfish horny assholes but that doesn’t automatically make them criminals.
Few people criticizing the decision to go ahead with this trial and causing the players and the woman further grief.
We need these trials. No matter the decision there will be vindication for either one person or for five persons.
Had it not gone ahead and there was a NDSettlement, there would have always been a cloud over all parties, suspicion, an asterisk. Through a trial the facts are detailed. The other party gets to appeal if there is reason to.
Those saying “Not guilty doesn’t mean they didn’t do it”… huh? An Acquittal means that… Not guilty means Not guilty.
Innocent!
“‘Her behaviour looked like she was consenting, and she was in fact consenting. There is no consent-vitiating level of fear,’” and no evidence of physical coercion — no use of force or threat of force, the judge says
I love these morally moronic people they’re happy watching sports figures make $10-$200, million because they have no problem paying owners 14 bucks a beer.
How dare you sign a player that was been invited to a gang bang! ‼️
Remember when most hockey subreddits would ban you for daring to question this case? Lol
There is justice in Canada after all!
Well done!
Anyone actually following the trial knew these guys were not guilty of SA.
99,99% looks like the judge is going to let them walk free
Now we get to see even a larger show: WILL THEY LET THEM BACK IN THE LEAGUE?
Wow! All innocent! After years of having their lives ruined, poor guys. I hope they can recover emotionally and get their careers back on track.
She regretted her consensual choices and 5 men paid the price.
Based on the evidence as reported by the media, this seemed like the only rational conclusion for anybody who believes trials should be decided on the basis of evidence and not identity characteristics.
Her testimony failed on almost every credibility factor known to law. (Internal inconsistency, external
inconsistency, corroboration, quality of memory, ability to perceive, demeanour, motive to lie or exaggerate, etc).
I was going to say at least her evidence was under oath meaning she understands the importance of telling the truth, but then I just remembered that she admitted approving a lawsuit for sexual assault against a player that she said she knew had not done anything. So that’s out the window too.
