Pistons Betting Favourites to Land Elite Bucket Getter? 👀 + Sneaky New Signing | Pistons Jack Reacts

Welcome back to the Piston Shack YouTube channel. We have a whole lot of roster news to get into today. The Pistons have signed a new two-way player. A former Piston has left the team, one of my personal favorites, and they also could be one of the NBA’s best isolation scorers coming to the Pistons. We’ll get to it in just a moment. All right, welcome back to the channel everyone. Let’s get straight into today’s episode. I want to start with the first piece of breaking news in relations to the Pistons roster and the Motor City Cruise. Shams tweeted out about an hour ago for myself that the Pistons are signing 6’6 guard/forward Colobby Jones on a two-way NBA contract. Uh so who is Colobby Jones? What does this mean for all the two-way deals? Let’s get into it. So Colobby Jones most recently was on the Washington Wizards as you can see on the graphic to the right and he played 15 games in the final couple of months of the season and put up some good stats. He put up nine points, four rebounds, two and a half assists. I think he averaged a steal and a half. Um he’s shown flashes. He’s 23 years old. Uh he shot 47% from the field, 31% from three, which is probably a little bit lower than you’d expect, but um he’s also sp I think he’s been in the league for two years. I believe he was on OKC for a little bit, didn’t play minutes there, though, and then he was with the Kings for most of his career. Um he’s had some huge games for the Kings G-League team, which I’m not exactly sure of their name, but he had a 40 piece. Um, if you go check out my post over on Instagram, you’ll see highlights from that. Um, I think he had like eight threes in that game. He’s also had multiple 30-point games. So, he’s shown that he can score at the G-League level. He has nice size at 6’6. Um, and I can see why the Pistons have signed him. Um, he did I was looking at his summer league stats from the most recent summer league and to be honest, they weren’t great. He shot like 30% from the field, 22% from three. um averaged like nine points or something across like the summer league and the California Classic. He was in that as well. So um not the best there, but it’s summer league. So um he will be a two-way player. So this is my current understanding. So the Pistons currently you can have three two-way deals or three players on two-way contracts. So the Pistons have Kobby Jones, they have Tou Smith, I believe, and they also, I believe, have Ron Harper Jr. So, what that means is that Dannis Jenkins is free to be what I’m putting the pieces together that Dennis Jenkins might be taking that 14th or 15th roster spot. Um, and we’ll touch on a player at the end of the episode who I thought was maybe going to get one of those spots, but he’s he’s moving to a new team. But, um, I believe this means the writing’s on the wall for Dennis Jenkins to take that 14th or 15th roster spot. So, I would expect in the coming days that to be announced. um if not no longer than a couple of weeks. It just feels like with how good he played at summer league, it’s it’s kind of inevitable. So, uh when that information and news comes, we will discuss it. I I don’t want to say it’s 100% happening, but that’s just my cuz I can’t see how the Pistons will be letting Dennis Jenkins go after that performance. Like, you would either put him because he’s a free agent, I believe, right now. You would either put him back on a 2-way or you would um add him to the roster. Like, maybe other teams are calling for Dennis and that’s I mean, the Pistons would be impressed with his play, but um regardless of my speculation, whatever, it just sounds like Dannis has earned himself a roster spot, which is huge for him. But we’ll discuss that when it’s 100% announced. But um just with how this is looking, that’s my feel. Like I said, not reporting anything here, just my just my two cents on it. Um moving on, and of course, let me know your thoughts if you have any on Kobby Jones. I believe I had a heap of people commenting on the Instagram post saying he was really good at um in college at Xavier. So I don’t really watch college hoops, but um it sounds like he has a bit of a fan base there. So um comment your thoughts below. But uh moving on. Earlier today I wake up to a lot of this stuff and I woke up to people messaging me about Cam Thomas to the Pistons and I’m like what on earth and where the hell is this coming from? This is the last player I expected to be linked to the Pistons in any way at all. And after doing a little bit of digging, it didn’t take me long to find that. This is all coming from uh some betting odds. So, when I posted this on my socials, I was very careful to say this is trending. This is not news. This is not breaking news. This is not source news. This is purely betting odds. But the reason we’re talking about it is because people are clearly putting money on Cam Thomas to come to the Pistons, which means that people may have intel that there’s interest there. There was a report from a Nets podcast, I believe it might have been from Brandon Scoop, who’s a news breaker of some sort, that the P uh the Nets have some interest in Ivy and that the Pistons have had some form of interest in Cam Thomas. how much that interest and what that entails is obviously up in the air, but um we’re going to discuss it quickly here because Cam Thomas is such an intriguing player. Like initially when I saw this, I’m like, no, Jayen Ivy, I’m invested in Ivy over Cam Thomas. But then I was thinking, well, I want to discuss this because the way Trajan Langden and the and the Pistons front office has spoken on the record about Ivy leads me to believe there is no way they’re trading him, especially for maybe a guy like Cam Thomas. like they’ve been so high on Ivy had him coming back and they were even Traan said it himself like he didn’t say these exact words but he basically said people aren’t thinking enough about how big of an impact Ivy can have returning from injury and how much he replaced Schroeder and how much he can replace what some of the other vets did but I just can’t see them trading him for a guy like Cam Thomas so in my mind I’m like well Cam Thomas is a restricted free agent we know the restricted free agent market is not good right now that’s why Kaminga Giddy Cam Thomas and there’s another player that’s slipping my mind from the 2021 draft all haven’t signed and they’re all in this holding pattern. And I was like, well, maybe the Pistons are looking to add Cam Thomas to a deal and bring him off the bench. But, um, let’s just talk about him quickly, the player first. So, Cam Thomas last season averaged 24 points, three rebounds, four assists in only 31 minutes. He shot 44% from the field, 35% from three. I believe the points and assists were career highs. Um, but this is when you get into his game, he’s like an elite isolation scorer. Loves a pull out mid-range, loves a step back three. He ranked 90 in the 92nd percentile for isolation possessions per synergy last season, shooting 46%. So, just an absolutely elite isolation scorer. He also ranked in the 81st percentile on spot-ups, shooting 41% on catch and shoot looks, essentially what that is. He, this number surprised me as a pick and roll ball handler when looking to score. This is a key part here. He ranked in the 88th percentile. Another very elite figure, 44% from the field. On guarded catch and shoots, he shot 42%. But here’s the thing with Cam. He’s a below average finisher in the paint. So whilst Ivy definitely needs to improve on that as well, um, and I’m not really trying to compare the two, but I know people will naturally, um, he’s largely like he can be a three-level scorer, don’t get me wrong, but he’s largely a mid-range guy that loves to ISO and he’s very good at it and he can knock down threes at an average rate, but he can make tough looks. So, this is a guy that if you look at the Pistons most recent playoff series on offense, he would have helped a lot, but we know the Pistons were missing Ivy and Stewart in that series. So, but Cam is a guy you can give the ball and he will go get buckets. And that’s kind of what intrigues me a little bit. Um, of course, you have to get him at the right deal and I’m not giving up Ivy for him. I just believe in Ivy Moore as an all-around complete player. And something about Cam and his game, whilst I think he can be really efficient, like giving up uh really effective as a scorer, something about giving up Ivy for him just I don’t know what it is. It just doesn’t doesn’t work for me. But if you can add Cam and keep Ivy and you get Cam at a price that’s not the 25 to 30 million he wants, say you can somehow. So So I did some research. The Pistons technically can use their traded player exception of 14.3 million to trade for Cam. They’d have to send back a pick to make the deal work. But if they did that and they signed Cam to say something like 2 years 28 million, that full exception and he was happy with that, maybe he wants to do a oneplus 1 where he can get back into Fency next season. Um, which wouldn’t be ideal for the Pistons because you’re giving up a pick to get him, but in theory that is something they could do. Maybe that works. Maybe, you know, you could look at this as Cam Thomas is basically in for Dennis Schroeder. Um, that’s how it could work. Um, I just can’t see the Pistons committing long-term money to him. And that’s that’s something Traan has avoided. That’s why I didn’t get Malik Monk. So, um, because the only they can only really get him via a signing trade. They because all they have is this trader player exception, the 5.1 million banual exception, and vet mints, which you know, like he’s a restricted free agent, so it has to be a sign and trade. So, that’s why people are throwing in Ivy. Um, I see Nets people saying the Pistons will need to give up Ivy and a first. Like, Pistons are not giving up a first for Cam Thomas. No offense. It’s just they just I’d be absolutely shocked and I’d have I’d look like a fool for laughing, but it’s just that’s not happening. Um, not after waiting so long to have all your picks back. I can’t imagine them giving him up for Cam Thomas. But I would be like if they can add Cam like I said and you keep Ivy and he’s like your sixman that’s his most elite role. Like I think he can play on a playoff winning team and be that and be a spot starter cuz he’s an elite like he’s a very good to elite scorer in the NBA no matter what you think about his game. When I just dived in and looked at those percentiles and isolation on spot ups anything dribbling the ball and shooting he’s really good at. He is really good at and he can knock down catch and shoot looks. So, you know, that is valuable no matter what and especially on this Pistons team that’s still trying to find that true second scorer. I can see why the Pistons are interested, but um we won’t do m too much more on this unless there’s any actual reporting. But I just found it really interesting that the Pistons were the the f the leading candidates in the betting odds. Just anyway, let me know your thoughts on that. I know this is going to be a very topical one. People are probably going to come at me for this or even talking about it, but you know, I think could be interesting fit for the right for the right deal. As I said, um, finally to wrap up the show, Lindy Waters signed with the San Antonio Spurs today. Uh, I thought Waters was a great addition. Like, he’s a flatout shooter. I think he shot like 39% with the Pistons, obviously in a very limited role, but more importantly, I think he was awesome for the vibes in the locker room. like he seemed like a really good guy to have on your team and to be honest I was hoping they would probably bring him back as that 14th or 15th man. Um but obviously that’s not going to happen. I’m really happy. Obviously maybe the Pistons wanted to and then there was more of an opportunity for him at San Antonio. So um we’ll follow his career. I I just enjoyed having him on the team. Like I really did and I thought he could have been a guy that helps this team next season if the Pistons signed them just because of his shooting. I think he’s got decent size and I think he’s underrated as a defender, especially as someone coming off the bench. But, um, shout out to Lindy Waters once again. Like, you go back and watch a lot of those videos after he was on the Pistons where they’re like locker room videos and pregame dancers, like all that stuff of vibes and just bringing positivity. Like, I felt like he was one of the key guys doing that and um, yeah, he he just seemed like a vibe. So, bit sad to see him go. Obviously, it won’t really affect the Pistons season next year in terms of win loss, but I do think it is a a slight loss to the locker room in terms of chemistry and vibes. But, um, that’s going to do it for today’s show, guys. Getting this one out a bit earlier than usual considering the amount of news we have, but um, appreciate all the love, support. If you haven’t already, if you could please subscribe, I would greatly appreciate it. Keep it helping this channel grow. But appreciate you all as always. But until tomorrow, as always, go Pistons. 1. It would be perfect if we can get cam on mle and use trade exception with a few seconds we can package LeVert Tobias reed Bobbi 4second in Three team deal for Lauri and grab bolbol as third center

  2. I forgot to mention this while recording, but a couple of weeks ago, I talked about a rumor involving the Pistons being interested in one of the four remaining restricted free agents — Cam Thomas, Jonathan Kuminga, Josh Giddey, and Quentin Grimes.

The rumor supposedly came from someone within the Pistons, who said the team had interest in one of those four players, but that a deal was unlikely. I originally assumed it was Kuminga… but maybe it was Cam Thomas after all?
