It’s our fourth season as a host of Lockdown Angels. We’re here every single weekday, 5 days a week, talking Angels baseball with you Monday through Friday. On today’s show, let’s have ourselves an honest conversation about the Angels and the trade deadline. What does it mean for them to be buyers, sellers, or just stand pat and roll with the team that they already have? And what are the considerations that we have to make for each of those three paths? And what should us fans, you, me, everybody watching, all of our everydayers, what should we fans consider as we hope that they do one of these three? Now, I’m not here to convince you of one way or another, but I thought it’d be good for us, depending on where you fall in the conversation, to consider all the factors of what buying, selling, and staying pat with this team might actually mean for the team. And depending on where you stand, maybe I’ll give you some things to think about, some food for thought that maybe you haven’t thought about before. Let’s start with where in my opinion, I think everybody is kind of leaning right now. Of course, I am recording this before the Mariners Angels game on Thursday night, so keep that in mind. Maybe they had a huge win and they tore it up and everybody wants to buy. But this is where I think everybody is leaning currently, especially coming off that sweep uh in the Mets series. The Angels selling. They have plenty of players to sell and that’s significant. Kenley Jansen, Taylor Ward, Tyler Anderson, Luis Renhifo, Yan Manata, Kyle Hendris, and even maybe you say Kikuchi. Now the most valuable pieces of that crop are Jansen, Ward, and Kikuchi. But you could get something of value for the likes of Renhifo, Manata, Anderson, and Hendricks. Now, maybe you fall in the camp of let’s sell everything, right? Sell as much as you can. Don’t compromise the future. Keep guys like Neto around Hoppy around, Shaunell. Uh, of course, Trout’s not going anywhere with that no trade clause. And so, yes, you might be in the camp of let’s get rid of all these guys and see what we can get back for them. So, the purpose of this conversation is to help you make some considerations that you have to make with those super valuable pieces. Again, Jansen Ward and Kikuchi, I think, are the most valuable players that they can trade at this deadline. Let’s talk about Taylor Ward for a second. He’s drawn a lot of trade interest almost every single year at the trade deadline since 2022. Last year he had interest, but he cooled off pretty significantly in the month of July. Now he’s on one of those really good hitting streaks that he goes on. Remember, he’s a very streaky hitter where he’ll guess right for a time and guess wrong for a time. And so right now, he’s very appealing to a lot of teams out there. He’s got another year of control on his contract when he’ll be 32 years old in 2026 and he’s eligible for arbitration. So, teams get to negotiate what they’re going to pay Taylor Ward next year and that adds a lot of value right now as well. He does not have an expiring contract. So, let’s get into the considerations of that point. Will the Angels even trade him? They don’t ever seem to want to trade anyone who isn’t on an expiring deal. But you have to wonder, will the Angels be able to afford a player like Taylor Ward over the off season? Right now, according to Fan Graphs, his war of 2.0 is worth 16.2 million. That’s 8.1 million per war. Fan Graph’s war. And this year, his contract is 7.825 million for the whole year. So that is lower for the rest of this season, for the remainder. However, he’s worth a player around 16 million in this market. He goes into arbitration again next year. He could probably earn between like 10 and 13 million. That seems like the kind of boost he would get, but it would be hard for the Angels to find someone of his value and production for cheaper than that in the off season via free agency. Essentially, he’d be really hard to replace given how affordable he is. But that also banks on him having this kind of season that he’s having right now next year. But you can pretty much guarantee that he is going to have a similar s uh se similar season next year. Over the last four seasons, he’s had a OPS plus of 117. That’s 17 better than 17% better than league average. So, it really comes down to if the Angels want to compete next year, do they want to do that with Taylor Ward on the team or not? However, you might consider trading Taylor Ward for someone who’s close to being ready now and addresses a need for the next few years. Baseball America had a great write up on prospects who are blocked in their system like Andrew Painter who is a Phillies pitching pro prospect, one of their top prospects. And then there’s Chase Young from the Tigers. He’s got some time at third base, but he hasn’t played a lot with Detroit, and he just hasn’t really put it all together at the big league level. Then there’s Kenley Jansen and Kikuchi. Jansen is on an expiring deal, and he’s probably the most tradable of all the Angels. And of all the closers out there, he’s kind of in a group among Carlos Estz from the Royals, Emanuel Class from the Guardians, Peter Fairbanks from the Rays, Ryan Helley of the Cardinals, and Felix Bautista of the Orioles. Those are all teams that could trade their closers, including the Angels, and Kenley Jansen. As for Kikuchi, the Angels have him on a three-year deal at a very affordable $21 million a year for a starting pitcher. and with how good he’s been pitching, he would provide a ton of value at that price and the fact that he has two and a half years of control left. But here’s the thing I want us to consider with Jansen and Kikuchi. They’ve both stated that they signed in Anaheim to help turn things around. And for their part, they’ve done that. Kikuchi has had a strong start to this year, especially the last few months. After that first month, he’s been much better. He’s got a 136 erra plus. That means he’s 36% better than the league average starter. That’s almost as good as he was last year across Toronto and Houston. He had a 148 erra plus last year and the season’s not over yet, so he could continue to get closer to that number. Jansen, meanwhile, he’s been one of the most reliable bullpen arms. Still got it after all these years. He’s converted 17 of his 18 save chances and he’s been a beast. We’ve seen him command the infield, tell people what to do and all of that. So consider this. What would it say to potential free agents who, you know, would consider coming to the Angels? What would it say to them if both these guys who wanted to help the team get traded halfway through the season? Something to think about. And I get it. It’s not like Kikuchi and Jansen are gonna say stuff like, “Well, I don’t want to be here anymore.” They’re going to say the things that we want to hear, like, “I want to win here. I want to help this team.” And that’s what good teammates say. But they did sign here for a reason, and they’ve done their job. It could be an especially bad look to trade Kikuchi, who signed for three seasons and then gets traded away in year one. That’s not going to be appealing to free agents. And the Angels are actually going to need Kikuchi these next two and a half seasons because him and Soraniano are really the only locks for the rotation next year. Now let me talk about the players of not lesser value but still valuable. Hris Anderson, Ranifo, and Manata. These are the guys that could be moved, get you something, get you anything in return. If you’re a seller, your goal is to get back as much as you can from those four guys. And something is better than nothing, right? We don’t want them to walk at the end of the season and not got anything for them. So considering that somebody like Luis Garcia, a reliever, netted the Angels four players from the Red Sox last year, this is a route that I think the Angels and those who want to sell should go. Anderson and Hendricks, they might not be the most exciting starters, but there are plenty of teams out there who just need bodies in their rotation or maybe even their bullpen. The Cubs need a starter. The Mets, they’re waiting on guys to come back from injury. The Dodgers are certainly waiting for guys to come back from injury. The Yankees, they also need some starting pitching help. But the problem is, and I want you to consider this, if you’re in cell mode, the Angels need bodies, too. We all know they’ve been using four starters the last two weeks, and all indications are they’re going to keep doing that. So if you trade Anderson and Hendrickx, which seems like the obvious move, that does mean you’re going to have to call up Kaden Dana, Sam Daryry, maybe Chase Silth. You have to call those guys up to finish out the year. And yeah, that might be exciting for a while, but we’ve seen that these guys are not quite MLB ready for big league hitting just yet. Demmer’s, he probably stretches out and gets back into the rotation to finish the year. And I know a lot of us want to keep him in the pen at least until the end of this season. And as far as Reanhifo and Manata go, those two seem like the easiest pieces to sell. And here’s what I think about that. The team that doesn’t get Au Heno Suarez from the Diamondbacks as a third baseman, the team that doesn’t get the trade done for him, they’re going to have to settle for somebody like Monata, who’s pretty valuable when he’s healthy, but health has been his issue over the last couple of years, including this season. Then there’s Renhifo who can play anywhere and not particularly great at any position, but he’s the kind of guy you want in a playoff push and a playoff run. So that likely leaves Kevin Newman and Chris Taylor to play third the rest of the year. Unless that story about Logan O’Hy taking reps at third base before Wednesday’s game is pointing to something bigger. Uh that was an interesting story from Jeff Fletcher. They Angels tried to downplay it. I don’t know. I think there’s something there. So, as you discuss the angels being sellers, th those are some of the considerations that you’re going to have to make. And one thing I want you to remember, friends, if you’re in sell mode, is that yes, the Angels have a much better record now than they did last year, but it’s very possible they end with a losing record if they sell. Maybe 99 losses again, maybe a 100 losses, but that’s not something we should hold against them, especially if they sell. and especially if you find yourself in the camp of sell mode. Thanks for making Lockdown Angels your first listen of the day. Coming up, what considerations should we take into account if the Angels buy? And what about if they just stand pat? Thanks for making Lockdown Angels your first listen of the day. We discussed the considerations we should make if you’re a fan who subscribes to the idea that the Angels should be sellers. But what about those who think the Angels should buy? Now, I have to venture a guess that there’s probably not a lot of people out there who think that. However, I think it’s a good idea to have this honest conversation, be real, and take into consideration some of the things that they would have to do, some of the things that would happen if they bought. So, let’s get started. If they’re buyers, what do they do first? We got to start with their areas of need. Their walk rate and their strikeout rate have definitely improved as this season has gone on. In fact, since since uh June and even the month of July, it’s been way better than it was. They’ve been taking more walks. They’ve reduced their strikeout rate, but it’s still an area that can be better. So, what’s the solution there? Because that’s an area that needs to be addressed, and that’s something that they should buy for. How about a true leadoff guy? Now, Zach Neto, he’s been great in the leadoff spot at number one, and his way of getting on base has mainly been by getting base hits. Right now, he has a 5.3% walk rate. That’s three points below the league average of 8.4. He’s also got a strikeout rate of just about 26%. And his on base percentage is 323. Now, if you look around the league at some of the guys who are leading off for other teams, their numbers are very, very different. Let’s start with uh Otani. A 14% walk rate, 25% K rate, and a 379 on base percentage for Otani. TJ Fredel from the Reds, an 11% walk rate, 15.5% K rate, a 364 on base percentage. And then Stephven Quan from the Guardians, he walks 8% of the time and strikes out 8% of the time. His on base percentage is 352. And someone we’re all very familiar with that we’re playing again tonight, JP Crawford, 11.6% walk rate, 17% K rate, 365 on base percentage. So based on those numbers, it’s clear that Zach Neto is not your typical leadoff guy, and that’s an area that can be addressed via trade. So which teams out there would be willing to sell what they have to offer? Well, how about Xavier Edwards of the Marlins? Right now, he’s got a 9.2% walk rate, a 14% K rate, and a 292 batting average. He’s a lot like Nolan Shaell in those numbers. Shauna’s got very similar numbers there. And while the Marlins aren’t necessarily looking to shed anyone who’s young and controllable, they have expressed a willingness to move pieces like Xavier Edwards. That’s just just one example of who the Angels should buy for turning things around and improving the lineup. Edwards has infield versatility, too. He plays shortstop, second base, could probably play third base. It’s been a couple of years for him, but I think he could do it. But that’s an area of need the Angels have to consider if they buy. Get somebody who can lead off. Doesn’t have to be Edwards, but he’s just one example of the kind of guy you should go and get. But let’s keep up with the notion of improving areas of need. Pitching both in the bullpen and the starting rotation. They could use some help. The Angels Penn definitely needs somebody other than Kenley Jansen to be a veteran presence. And we just got word yesterday that Robert Stevenson moved to the 60-day IIL. That doesn’t really change things. They had it, but they lost some of it to injuries and DFAs, right? They lost uh Hunter Strickland to the IIL. They DFAD uh veterans like Hector. And as for the rotation, we’re all very aware that they’re going with a fourman rotation in bullpen games right now. Hopefully that changes soon. So, if they’re going to go out and get starting pitching, if they’re going to buy, here’s something that I want you to consider. What if they took a really big swing? What if they sent Taylor Ward to the Padres’s for Dylan Cease? That’s one and a half years of Ward for an expiring deal like Dylan CE. Now, his statline ceases has not been great this year. However, he’s still doing everything that he’s always done. A high fast ball, a great chase rate, a whiff rate, a K rate. Those are all still top of Major League Baseball. He’s an immediate boost to this rotation. I don’t care what the win and loss record is. If he’s on this rotation, he’s certainly going to improve it immediately. Or how about Adrien Howser of the White Sox? He’s been awesome this year and he was actually released prior to the White Sox signing him. They signed him and then had him start that same day. It’s ridiculous. And he’s been awesome. But that would also require some minor leaguers for a team like the White Socks who are still rebuilding. And we all know what happened the last time we traded with the White Socks. But this is the buyer conversation. These are the considerations we all have to make. So, now it’s time to take into consideration what it actually means for the Angels to buy. We’d have to say goodbye to the most valuable assets that they have. That includes Ryan Johnson, who by the way was newly minted in the top 100 per MLB pipeline. He is number 100 in the top 100 players uh in minor league baseball. Uh that includes Kaden Dana, George Clawson, both of whom have had down years but still top angels prospects. And then even recent pickups like Chase Shores or Tyler Brener, those guys are not off the table even though they just got drafted. They could be trade pieces. And then Nelson Rada would certainly be part of that group as well. So we’d have to say goodbye to some or all of those guys. It’s definitely mortgaging the future for right now, but that’s the nature of buying. And these are the pieces they’d have to use to buy anything significant or meaningful. So if you’re a buyer, are you willing to go that far? If you fall into the camp of buying, are you willing to part with the pieces that are going to help this team in the years to come? Because feels like we’ve been down this road before, right? Because we have. Remember Kyle Bradish? He got traded to the Orioles for Dylan Bundy before 2020. And to be fair, Bundy looked like a rock star in 2020, but it’s very clear that he was a sticky stuff merchant and he couldn’t pitch once the league cracked down on it. And then Bradish is hurt right now for the Orioles, but he’s been a huge part of their rotation for the last couple of years. So that’s a a miss, right? Like Bundy was good in 2020, which does that even really count. Does that make Kaden Dana our next Kyle Bradish? Would that make Clawson or Al Daryry our next Kyle Bradish? That’s the nature of buying, my friends. Finally, let’s consider where the Angels stand as of this recording prior to Thursday’s series opener against the Mariners. I mentioned uh this on yesterday’s show. The Angels are currently 49 and 53, four games under 500, 11 games back of the Astros in the West, five games back of a wild card spot. They’ve got the Twins, the Royals, the Guardians, the Rays, the Rangers all ahead of them. The Red Sox, they hold the third spot currently. The Rangers are eight and two in their last 10. So are the Guardians. So that’s something you need to consider as they buy. Looking at the rest of the season, you’ve got to take into consideration their schedule. Here’s the teams they have to face the rest of the year that are above 500. They got seven more games after last night’s game against Seattle. They’ve got six against Texas, three versus Tampa, three versus Detroit, three more versus the Dodgers, three against the Cubs, three against Cincinnati, seven more against the Astros, and three against the Brewers, who currently hold the best record in baseball. Now, the rest of the season, here are the teams below 500. Three more against the White Socks, six against the A’s, six versus Kansas City, three versus the Twins, and three versus Colorado. There’s 59 games left. 38 of those games are against teams above 500. 21 are against teams below 500. If you’re a buyer and you’re in the buying camp, are you willing to hedge your bets and roll with those odds? 38 against 500 teams or above 500 teams, 21 against below 500 teams. Can and will the Angels do enough to be competitive over this last stretch of 59 games? These are the things that you’ll need to consider and ask yourself if you want the Angels to buy at the trade deadline. Today’s show is brought to you by our friends at Game Day Huegh. Game Day Hugh makes clean, no logo gear with team inspired colorways for every pro and college fan base. It’s about letting the colors speak for you. I bet you you saw my hat on the video side and went, “Hey, what a nice looking Angels hat.” Well, guess what? It’s not an Angel’s hat. It’s a Game Day Hugh hat, but it has the Angels colors and I love it. It looks like their home white jerseys. It looks fantastic. The hat pairs perfectly with what I normally wear. No giant logos or anything like that. So, it fits with nearly everything that I wear. And if I’m going to a game, obviously, it’s an angel’s hat. I can wear it to a game and it looks good. Uh, if I ever go golfing, by the way, we’ve got these great Game Day Hue golf gloves. These actually remind me of Mike Trout’s batting gloves, which is kind of cool. We all know he loves golf. He’s probably thinking about it right now, actually. but they’re made for the golf course. It’s the perfect gift for the fan who has everything. So, right now you can get 15% off with the code MLB15 at gamedayhugh. That’s game dayhue.com. You type in the team that you want. Whether it’s the Angels, maybe you’re a Laker fan or Clippers fan, or if it’s the NFL, you’re rooting for the Rams or the 49ers. They got it all. They got all this merch that looks like the colors of your favorite team. That code I mentioned, MLB5, even stacks on bundles. So, now it’s the time to load up. Let your colors do the talking because colors speak louder than words. That’s gamedayhw.com code MLB5. So maybe you’re someone who thinks the Angels should stand pat and keep going with the team that they have right now. Perhaps the Angels are just going to want to roll with the team that they have right now. It certainly feels like that and the players have affirmed that and they’ve said as much. Here’s what Taylor Ward said. We went over this a couple of days ago. He said, “I think as long as the boys continue to do what they do and they’re passing the baton, I think we’ll be in a good spot. I want to stay here. I want to win with this group. I think it’d be the cherry on top of getting to the playoffs and winning with this group. Mike Trout, he said, “You’ve seen what we’re capable of doing. We’ve had some great stretches in the last few weeks. We got off. We got to get off to a hot second half. We’ve got to do the little things right. We’ve got to play solid defense. And when we have runners on base, we’ve got to do our job.” Kenley Jansen said, “We’ve got a great group of guys around here, and I think we can do it. we can sneak in as a wildcard team. You never know what can happen the next couple of games. So, we just got to keep them coming with this energy when we play. And Travis Darno said there’s still time left to do something crazy. I’ve been part of a team that was under 500 at the deadline and they won the World Series. So, what should we consider if the Angels stand pack? if they just roll with the team that they have right now. Here’s a consideration, my friends. This is a 500 team. More specifically, this is a 480 team. Not a 500 team, a 480 team. We have a 100 game sample size of exactly who they are, a 500 team. And if they continue to be the team that they are, they’re likely to stay at 500 the rest of the way. 81 and 81. That’s not good enough for a playoff spot. It’s it’s an improvement from where they were last year and years prior, but that’s not good enough for a playoff spot. So, something really has to go right these next 59 games if they want to compete for the playoffs. Now, it sounds to me like the players are banking on going on a hot streak, but even they recognize that they could be better because when they’re on, they’re on. But we’ve also seen what happens when they’re off, too. And that’s been the issue. They’ve been pretty inconsistent. They can go on sweeps and stretches of win streaks for a long period of time and then all of a sudden they’re losing series. They’re dropping a few games in a row. This is a very back and forth team. So if you’re in the camp that the Angels should just roll with the team that they have, what can they do to improve? So there’s a couple of directions that they can go. First, they could change up the batting order. Perhaps it’s time to lean in to the things that Mike Trout is doing well right now and put him at leadoff. We mentioned the need for a true leadoff guy. Someone with good on base percentage, someone who takes blocks. Trout has been that guy. He’s got a 15.2% walk rate and an on base percentage of 359. That doesn’t require a trade. You don’t have to go out and get anyone. It’s just a simple lineup change. And not only does it take advantage of what Trout is doing well, but Zach Neto as well. Let’s swap them. Let’s put Zach Neto at three. Give him the chance to drive Trout and Shaunell in. After all, he’s got a 296 batting average with runners in scoring position and a 5/19 slugging percentage with runners in scoring position. That means he’s driving in runs with home runs and extra base hits like doubles and triples. So that’s one option that they could do to get better if they decide to stand pat. They have to get better. They’re a 500 team the way they’ve been playing. So they got to shake it up. They got to do something. Something else that they could do. What if they traded for need? Now I know that this isn’t standing pat, but hear me out. It’s need for need. Like I mentioned before, Taylor Ward for Dylan CE that addresses the need for the Padres’s. It addresses the need for the Angels. So you’d have to rely on a new left fielder. And the options right now are Chris Taylor, maybe Solair, Wade Jr., maybe Trout when he gets healthy enough to play the outfield. And while that’s not necessarily rolling with a team that they already have, it does improve what has proven to be a 500 ball club. So maybe you uh need starting pitching more than you need Taylor Ward’s production, his RBI’s, right? Maybe Luis Renhifo or Yan Manata, maybe that’s a trade that can get you someone else on an expiring deal that can help your rotation or your bullpen. And sure, you couldn’t make that deal with a selling team. It’s got to be a need for need with another team that’s trying to compete for the playoffs. But you could approach somebody like the Yankees who desperately need a third baseman. And you could get somebody like Ryan Yarbor who can start and relieve. So, here’s something else that they could do if they want to be better. Stop doing bullpen games. Can we cut that out, please? Stop doing that. So, here’s the thing. If you’re of the mindset that this team can go on a run and do it with the team that they have, remember, they have more games against teams above 500 than they do below. Which, look, sometimes they play up to those above 500 teams. So, maybe they’ll have reverse splits. Maybe they’ll be better against 500 teams. They’ve got more games against 500 above 500 teams, 38 versus 21 against below 500 teams. So, that’s something that we should all take into consideration, including the players. If they want to go for it as is, there’s improvements that you could make. And again, I know making a a need for need trade is not necessarily rolling with the same team that you already have, but it does kind of mean that the team stands pat with who they are right now. But if they just roll with a team that they have on July 25th, they’re going to continue to be 500. They’re going to continue to maintain 50/50, 81 and 81, and that’s not going to get them into the playoffs. if they think that they can go for it and make it happen, well, they got a lot of tough games ahead of them. And that’s something that we all have to take into consideration if we think this team right now is good enough to stay as who they are and see what happens. Maybe they get on a hot streak, maybe they tear it up, maybe all the good things that they do this season and have done this season, maybe they do that for a month, but that’s a lot of maybe. That’s a lot of non-G guarantees. That’s a lot of hope. That’s a lot of opium that they can get hot at the right time. Thanks for making Locked on Angels your first listen of the day. Will the Los Angeles Angels be buyers, sellers, or keep the same team at the Trade Deadline? On today’s Locked On Angels, Jon of the Super Halo Bros. has an HONEST conversation about what it means for the Halos to buy, sell, or stand pat before the clock strikes zero on the MLB Trade Deadline. What are the considerations we fans should make if they buy? What about if they sell? And, if they plan to keep rolling with the team they have, what does it mean for the rest of the season, and how do they improve above .500? Depending on where you fall on the buy, sell, or stand pat conversation, Jon hopes it’ll give you something to think about!

  1. We almost took 2 of 3 from Mets. This team needs marginal improvements at third, a number 3 starter, and a bullpen piece. Don’t trade the farm, mix it up. I’d rather mix it up than go all in or all out because this team feels like they are close to being a better than .500 team.

  2. Great solo show today, I’ve been wanting the Angels to show interest in Oniell Cruz, but I think the biggest question mark remains how and if Arte wants to move forward and exceed our current .500 expectations, because we will need some big pieces to help

  3. If your a buyer: you would want proven MLB talent to help your team for years to come. Just getting prospects doesn’t help. Most prospects don’t even make the big leagues.

  4. At this point I think we hold pat. If you can infuse some boost by trying to get a capable 5th starter by doing something the Tigers did last year with selling and buying go for it. But anything compromising our top prospects for the now is not acceptable in my book. However we have Art as an owner as the ultimate wildcard, so who knows 🤷‍♂️ Personally I don’t think Art is gonna sell under any circumstance.

  5. Heck this a hell of a lot more fun this year than last year! After the next 4 or 5 games the Angels need to do whatever it takes to progress forward towards a championship contending 😊team!

  6. As a fan since '69… SELL! We aren't going anywhere this year. The only sustainable streak we are capable of losing. We are getting close but when you look at our lineup, its sad. We are still a few pieces away. If we can actually improve for next year, year after, while Trout is still useful, make the changes now!

  7. I was also thinking Ward for Cease. I’d try to extend Cease though, however, Arte doesn’t really do extensions. I’m still shocked Neto isn’t locked up.

  8. Pick up Santiago Espinal from Cincinnati as he is a bench player. He could be a full time player like he was in Toronto before Chapman came in at 3B. Get rid of Newman.

  9. Pleasantly surprised this year yet this team just makes too many mistakes especially since Wash too his med leave. I do wonder if the two best candidates to trade are Rengifo and Moncada literally to improve the team by subtraction.

  10. It's a difficult conversation to have because the front office has shown time and again they don't have a long term plan. They say we're always in compete now mode but how do you compete when you're under .500 each year. I've been wanting to sell but you bring up some good points, Jon. While this team has been fun to watch at times, it's still not playoff ready and who knows if it ever will be. Very frustrating to be an Angels fan

  11. I think we are still a year away so I think we sell but the way the front office picks players I am not sure they can make the deals we need. I was extremely disappointed with our #2 pick. They seem to want players that are ML ready rather than build for the future. Holiday was there for the taking and they picked a pitcher that was close to ML ready instead of Holiday. So if you sell you have to get value for the future and i just dont feel confident they know how to do that.

  12. If the Angels were a serious organization and serious about winning like they keep saying that they are, they would have added some pieces before this homestand started against the Mariners and eventually the Rangers. They clearly are not serious and need to sell.

  13. Before I say what I want to say about today’s episode, I’ve been wondering how much better would the team be right now record wise if Ron Washington were still managing? The same or better? I think they would be at or a bit over the .500 mark.

That being said, I’m still on the sell train, maybe sell to buy. We know, at least most of us know, that the Angels won’t trade players with control (Ward, Yusei) unless they get a lot in return. It also wouldn’t look good to potential FAs if Yusei gets traded when he just signed this past offseason. So you trade all FAs for whatever they can get (Rengifo, Moncada, Hendricks, etc.) I trust GMPM to get the most out of his trades even if they are not that valuable to the Angels (Luis Garcia anyone?). I would want them to still keep Jansen because you never know (Tigers), even though he is probably the most valuable Angel outside of Ward and Yusei.

  14. Halos have a difficult August schedule so things could get brutal… at this point they're just fighting the As for 4th place in the west. And I'm not sure they have any valuable pieces to trade and get anything meaningful in return. The bottom line is that this team has a losing culture that starts at the top and won't change until ownership changes.

  15. I remember being at a game a couple years ago where they were honoring Shohei before the game with a little on-field announcement and ceremony. Arte was out there for the ceremony and didn't even acknowledge Shohei… didn't even look at him much less shake his hand. I couldn't believe it. The guy's gotta go, and the fans need to stop supporting him.

  16. SELLLLLLL, I get it we want the team to keep fighting for playoff hopes but we have to admit our current roster is just way less talented than the other contenders and not sustainable for long term success. We do have a handful of great young core, but overall the team as a whole is just very mid even at its best, not to mention the ownership is always cheaping down on things that’s critical in modern baseball. Rebuild is the only way otherwise this team will always be lingering around that 5 to 10 games under .500 mark for eternity.

  17. They have a big need for a set up man. It's tough for me to envision success without that bullpen piece. I don't know what to call that but its a tough hill. I would argue not having a bullpen arm now against an important seattle series is killing them.

  18. 5 Games below .500 just 6 Days before the trade deadline. You are a Seller friends!!!! Plan to Trade & Sign for a 2026 Championship Run. Anything else is foolish.
