The Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp DAY 2 Was UNREAL… | Steelers News |

Ladies and gentlemen, another day here in Pittsburgh for Steelers training camp. Today’s video is going to be a little bit different. Um, I’m not going to have too many of those um 11 on 111 7 on seven film footage from that. But we are going to see and hear a lot about what’s going on at practice. Before we dive into the video, I want to give a shout out to uh some of the reporters that are there taking some of these videos. You’re going to see Bwall. All of the footage today is coming from him. I’m going to show you his app right here. Make sure you guys go follow him. He’s going to keep you guys updated on everything that’s happening. Go follow him right now if you haven’t already done so. But the first thing that I want to talk about here is John Smith was at practice today or is at practice today. Yesterday he was there but didn’t participate in any team drills or anything. Right. Today he looks like he’s ready to go. Um which is a very good sign. The offense struggled early on yesterday. We saw a great play by the defense, Jaylen Ramsey getting an interception early on, the first play of practice. But now that you got John Smith, and um you’re getting some guys more healthy here with Jaylen Warren, and and you got Caleb Johnson really taking over, DK Mechaf, Roman Wilson, Calvin Austin with your three wide receivers in sets yesterday. Today should be a lot more fun. We’re going to break down all the news, notes, highlights, observations from today. So, hit the like button, follow the reporters, and let’s dive in. Now, I realized really quickly after making that first part that I there was a lot of plays I didn’t show yesterday and I kind of wanted to go back and show you them again. Go to Robbie W or Steelers W Robbie or just Robbie here. Go follow him, man. He does a great job with these posts. And here’s another play from practice. We’re going to play action fake it. Step up in the pocket. You guys can determine whether or not you think this was Alex Heismith sack or not. He steps up, finds Roman Wilson in space. Sometimes all you got to do is take what the defense gives you and get that ball out of your hands quick. He ends up getting wrapped up there by Deshaawn Elliot. Keep in mind they are not allowed to tackle in this portion of practice. But I do want to watch this one more time here. Um man, Alex Highmith, what a move. And you know why this Steelers defense is probably one of the best in football is because of these edge rushers, TJ Watt, Alex Highmith, Nick Herbig. They It doesn’t stop. It doesn’t stop. And look at this move by Alex I Smith. He is going to act like he’s going to attack that outside shoulder. He’s going to plant that right foot into the ground and get all the weight on the outside foot of Brick Jones here. And then watch how quickly he is able to boom change direction. This dude’s change of direction is insane. And you see Jones like, damn, dude. How in the world does this man do that, right? probably would have been a sack in my opinion, but hey, this is a play from yesterday. Did did want to show it to you guys. So, we did hear a little bit of news pre-practice right as they’re going through walkthrough. It looks like John Smith is in a helmet like we saw, but is only doing light work off to the side. Will not be participating in team drills today. Also was no Cordell Patterson out of practice. But another big thing was the Steelers have signed free agent veteran safety 30-year-old Chuck Clark, the former Baltimore Raven. Uh also played with the Jets. Yes. Okay. So Jets starter. Um again, this is a guy that might be a big-time player for them. We’ve already started to see Jaylen Ramsay implemented more as a safety at times as well as Juan Thornhill allowing Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slayton uh or Barrett Slay Darius Slay to be on the outside boundaries. We’ve also seen Jaylen Ramsey in the nickel at times as well. Um so I do believe when Ramsay is in the nickel I think maybe Chuck Clark can move as more of a deeper safety for them. Uh, but this definitely adds a lot more versatility and another depth piece behind Juan Thornnehill and or potentially uh Jaylen Ramsey. Here’s some more wide receiver work with Calvin Austin and Roman Wilson. These guys are seemingly scheduled or slotted in to be the two starting wide receivers outside of DK Metaf. So far, we have seen Roman Wilson and DK line up on the outsides with Calvin Austin rotating in the slot. When those three on the field, you can expect Roman Wilson to primarily be playing on the outside. Now, unless they go out and add another receiver, whether it be in free agency or via trade. Um, I think those are your three wide receivers. You’ll probably see Robert Woods mixed in there a ton as well. But so far, it’s these two guys who are making up a lot of ground so far this off season. and Roman Wilson could be in line for a major step up. Now, I also do want to give a major shout out to my guy Nch today. He is covering this Pittsburgh Steeler team. He is posting a bunch of clips uh from today. So, you guys can go follow him as well. Just another one of these dudes who are just grinding out here at training camp getting some footage out for us. Guys, again, go follow Nch on Twitter. You can also find him at NVCCI. again, really good job tweeting out here during today’s practice. And here we go. This is one of the first plays of seven shots. Obviously, they come in here and do seven shots in the red area. Try to get as many touchdowns as possible, at least for the offense, right? Um and the first snap’s not great. We motion over Jaylen Warren and it looks like bad snap by the center. Now, we are hoping for a big year um out of these. Again, there’s four offensive linemen or three offensive linemen coming in from last year’s draft. They were hoping for a lot of progress out of these guys. That’s two bad snaps two days in a row. Um, in terms of this center, Zack Frasier. Now, obviously, it’s very, very early. OB, we need to build chemistry between Aaron Rogers and the center. They haven’t played with each other yet, okay? It’s very early on. And offenses should be losing. Defenses should be winning when there’s a brand new quarterback, when there’s brand new weapons offensively. There should be a lot of defensive wins, but the center quarterback exchange needs to be clean. Okay? Needs to be clean. Need to fix this. Another really good rep here. First thing we notice about this play, guys, and I’ll actually show it to you before I break it down really quickly. So, watch it. We’ll go back and we’ll look at what we see. Okay, so this is a really good read here by Aaron Rogers. Unfortunately, uh he can’t hang on. JPJ does a great job ultimately, but this is a very catchable ball. So, first thing we notice here is we got trips out here to this left side. We have no deep safety. Usually, when you have a guy like DK Mechaf, what teams will do is they’ll either drop this back this guy back into coverage or they’ll rotate a safety over, but there’s no safeties at all. Okay? There’s two linebackers up the middle. The only guy we’re really reading here is him. if he comes down. This is what we like to call a yes no read where quarterbacks like Aaron Rogers, they’ll take that that throw every day of the week, especially you have a guy like DK Metaf. So again, first thing we’re reading here is pretty much that linebacker. If he doesn’t drop back, he comes in, boom. Okay, we have the one-on-one fade to the back corner of the end zone. We need to back shoulder this thing because we have that leverage with DK Mechaf. We throw it. It’s honestly a really good throw. Maybe a little bit to the Haron side. um it would have been a little bit better, but again, not not bad at all. I know it goes incomplete here, but this is a good read by Aaron Rogers just ultimately can’t come down with it. And Joey Porter Jr. just does a great job. Let me see if I can see any better if he can get a hand on this or just a like just a drop, but Joey Porter Jr.’s there, man. Again, that’s not it’s not not a bad throw. Not a bad throw. Not a bad uh opportunity there for the offense in the in the red area. Now, ultimately, I do have from BWall, my guy BWall. Go follow him. He’s going to cover everything. 11s, sevens, red zone shots. So, this is basically how it went today. We had the low stat from uh Fraser. Play was blown dead. Not good at all. Got to fix that. Rogers to DK. Touchdown. We had a fade to DK, the one we just saw. Incomplete. More of just a couldn’t catch it, but was good defense from Joey Porter Jr. We had too high, incomplete for Mason Rudolph to Williams. We also had Mason to Miller. Scotty Miller touchdown on a quick slant. Incomplete pass. Howard then comes in has one to go for a touchdown. And then Rogers comes back into Pat Frymuth for a touchdown as well. Here’s actually one of them to Pat Fri. So we see priest that motion again. Yesterday we saw them kind of disguise a man coverage with a cover three buzz. And here we go once again. Rogers drops back quick out to Pat Frymuth for an easy touchdown. Great job reading the defense, understanding it was uh most likely man coverage here with some motion on. Let’s read this. So now when you have trips, it especially if you’re in man coverage, it is very difficult to communicate through this. It looks like there’s probably a slight miscommunication here. Okay, so we get a little bit of an an in a whip route. So essentially, your tight end goes to the flats and then your outside wide receiver runs, gets in front, and then gets back out. But again, just gets in the way. Watch that outside receiver. He’s going to boom, stop in front wide open. Great job. If you see man coverage down low and they don’t switch it, it’s it’s going to be easy money. And right here, Rogers and the offense take advantage of that easily. Great job here by the O. All right, we’re going to end the video here, but go follow the dude I have linked up there, NVCCI. You can also find him at Nooch, right? Go follow him. I’m telling you right now, you will not regret it. Here’s another possession from the offense before we head out of here. He’s going to dump it down to Caleb Johnson out the back field who picks up a nice chunk of yards. Um, but again, that’s going to be it for for me today, but there’s still a lot more practice. I’ll cover you guys a little bit more uh with some of the news and notes for tomorrow. Uh, so make sure you guys stay tuned for another one and I’ll see you guys tomorrow. But again, go check out these reporters. Guys need to see more practice. But I’m going to end it here.
