MLB LIVE🔴 San Diego Padres vs St. Louis Cardinals – Jul 25, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Just about set to go. Our starter in this one, Miles Michaels. And Singi, it’s unique these days, but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy. Yeah, Boogie. He doesn’t rely too heavily on the strike out. He knows he needs to miss barrels, get some soft contact, let the defense do work behind him. And I think a guy like that can keep a good tempo, don’t give hitters time to adjust or think, they can move through a ball game and you look off, they’re in line for a quality start. We’ll see what he’s gotten this one. And that’s way high and it’s one and one. Fernando Tatis Jr. signed by the White Socks 2015 for $700,000 and then eventually moved in the James Shields trade in June of 2016. Next pitch inside. Two balls, two strikes to count. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Just misses the mark outside the zone. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. That one misses. Nope. So, a lead off walk. A great back and forth in that at bat. play some really close pitches and somehow Boogie found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. Luis Arise stands in and that is downstairs and that’s ball one and that drops in for a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch he’ll see in this at bat to hit that one the other way. The throw to second. How about that double play? They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. to make tough plays look simple. And now it’s Manny Machado. Another solid power season in there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. [Applause] One ball. Two out. Base is empty. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Walker turns to the right on the move and he makes the catch. And that is that. We’ll go to the bottom of the first. Zero zero. Back here in St. Louis, today’s starting pitcher, U Darish. What should we keep an eye on here? Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Brendan Donovan leading things off and takes a strike. [Music] Tap foul at the plate. Darvish delivers. swing and a miss and he struck him out and one away. Oh, really went aggressive in with that slider. Good two strike pitch right there. At worst case scenario, it’s weak contact in play. Exactly where he and the catcher wanted it. And now it’s Ivon Herrera and first offering is fouled off. inside ball one and that one missing low. One out. Base is empty. [Music] popped up to Glacius. He’s there. He’s got it. Two away. Here’s a Cardinal lineup now. Singing. This righty heavy lineup is a bit unusual against a right-handed pitcher. Yeah, Boo. Certainly bucks the old conventional wisdom. And I’m not sure I see the vision from the manager on this one. You’re not exactly putting your players in the best situation to succeed when you roll out a lineup like this. Maybe they’ve seen something on video that tells them there’s a weakness to exploit. Perhaps that’s it. Alec Burlson in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Next offering is downstairs. I got a ball, one strike. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. This guy’s got such a good sinker. As a hitter, you’ve got to look up in the zone. If you look down, you’re going to be chasing stuff in the dirt. Way high there. And it’s two and two. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Two down, nobody on. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Redbirds down quietly, scoreless after one. Top of the second. And now here’s the veteran DH Xander Bogart. Xander Bogarts. Michael back to work. Way high. Oh. Now one miss James Kingsley working the plate. Kingsley is pretty well respected around the league. Yeah. When you talk to players I think consistently he is one of the guys you hear compliments about players appreciate the job he does back there. Yeah. And that’s kind of all you can ask for really just a fair chance to go out and have success. the pitch and that gets the inside corner for a strike. Fans don’t really understand the familiarity and relationship players and coaches have with umpires. I mean, you see them a lot. Yeah, Boo. They’re all out there trying to do their best and perform at a high level. So, when you respect that, I think over time you can develop a relationship with them. Here’s Gavin Sheets now. Left-hand bat to third. Aronado tossed to second, relay to first double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Race line to left base hit and that keeps the inning going. Batting seventh, second base. Now here’s Jake Croninworth. And the first pitch misses for ball one. 10 Glacius off of first with two away. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field and that’ll fall for a base hit. They stop the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. Back to back base hits. These days, most outfielders play pretty deep, and I’m not sure if that was a factor there or not, but off the bat, you’re thinking it’s going to be a pop out. And it just kind of nestled into that spot where no one was able to get to it. Runner in scoring position now. And a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. [Music] And he grounds one to the right side. And that chance handled tosses the first out number three. So they strand a pair down to the bottom of the second. No score. Bottom half of inning number two. And now the first base, Wilson Contrus. Contras. [Applause] That’s too low. And that is ball one. Just missed. Two. Up the middle. Croninworth throws on to first and quickly one away in the second. Batting fifth third baseman Nolan. Here’s Nolan Aronado. Good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. And a foul ball. Nothing nothing here in the bottom of the second. line drive base here. So, a man aboard now with one away. He was all over that one. Good pitch. Slider down and away. Just stayed down and threw it nicely. Such an easy pitch to pull off of because you’re probably thinking fast ball down the middle initially. And now Mason Win really strong hitting performance recently working on a fivegame hitting streak. Right back to the mound. Could be an easy two. There’s one over to first. That’s two. Nicely done. 163. And that will end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. End of two here at Bush Stadium. We’re tied nothing. Nothing. Well, here we go. Top of the third. Scoreless game. Stepping in for San Diego, Elias Diaz. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. And that’s a base hit. So now back to the top of the order. Now batting. nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. So, the San Diego batting order turns over and the batter will be Fernando Tatis Jr. in the dirt but kept close. Boo. Tatis is so athletic. He probably could have carved out a career in other sports if he wanted, but he grew up in a baseball family with baseball in his blood. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. And that’s a strike. Diaz gets his lead at first with nobody out. Squirts away a little bit. [Applause] Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. And that’s outside. Full countdown. And ball four, two aboard. Oh, now he’s got two runners on after that walk. And things can get out of hand in a hurry in these situations. So, he’s going to have to find a way to get back into the strike zone. Luis Ais the next up for the Padres’s. He hit into a double play his first time off. the other way down the line and it’s fouled and he’ll one and that one fouled off. Well, he got challenged with a good fast ball right there. Just couldn’t catch up. [Applause] line drive puts it away to the well behind the runner and they got him doubled off Manny Machado. Now Machado up here fly to right his first time. If you don’t get ahead in the count you can forget about having any success against him. that catches the corner. Two gone, but the go-ahead run is at first. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. [Music] [Applause] And that just misses. That one ripped. That’s a fair ball. And it’s getting into the corner. Here comes Tatis around third. He’ll score, man. He just absolutely turned on that one. Ripped it down the line. Nice job of staying in his mechanics. And a dangerous hitter coming up to hit in Xander Bogarts worked to walk in his first trip to the plate. There’s the strike. The strategy of winning a ball game when you can make that pitcher work a little more, expose himself by throwing pitches, that could be the key to winning perhaps later on. So, good job of extending this inning, getting a knock with two outs to bring the number four hole hitter up. And it’s even up. fought off foul. Two outs and one at scoring position. Foul ball still a one and two count. [Applause] Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Applause] bows it off. Still one and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Swing and a miss. And that is that. Padres’s with a run, scoring double. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. set for the bottom of the third. And now the catcher comes up to him. Joho [Applause] and there’s a ball. Counts one and0. That’s inside. [Applause] Oh, that’s out. Well, I would expect in this three-0 count. You’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. Fast ball for a strike at 95. Clearly taking all the way there in that three-0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. Fouls one away. And now three and two. Swings and miss has struck him out. That was a really nice pitch call for that putaway slider right there. You look at the sequence in that at bat and he hadn’t thrown it yet. So just makes it really tough to recognize and fight off with two strikes. I’m sure it looked like a fast ball all the way until it wasn’t. Jordan Walker the next to hit. [Music] Not even close there. Ball one. Fouled off down the right side. [Music] One down. Base is empty. And that one’s a little bit low. And that’s ball two. Two balls, one strike. [Music] This one in the air right field. Johnson should have this one. falls it in for the out. Batting ninth center fielder, Victor Scott. Victor Scott next up for the Cardinals. Scott getting the start in center, hitting ninth in today’s lineup and he was a fifth round pick in 2022. swing and a high-fly ball out towards right field. Tatis makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. Three up, three down for him there. On to inning number four. It’s the Padres’s one and the Cardinals nothing. Back here in St. John Shy with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth, Gavin Sheets. Ripped on a line. Walker makes the catch and there’s one down. clearly ready to hit right there. First pitch of the inning, hits a bullet and it just is one of those bad luck abs. And now Jose Glacius one for one with a single so far. [Applause] [Music] And that misses ball one. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Foul ball swing and a pop off in foul ground and it’s caught for the out. Good hard fast ball up in the zone right there. They look really good coming in, but so hard to get on top of as a hitter. Two out, space is empty. So digging in now for San Diego, Jake Croninorth and ball one. Two balls, no strikes to count. late with the swing there. Hey [Applause] [Applause] Two balls, one strike. Just missed ball. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Johnson takes a ball as he stands in for the second time. Next offering is in for a strike. And that’s downed away. Right through there for a strike. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. One left for San Diego, but they’re on top one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. And the batter down, Brendan Donovan. Donovan. [Applause] and a foul ball. You know, these Cardinals, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations, and that’s been true again today. on the ground right side. Croninworth throws on to first and one gone in the fourth as they get the leadoff man. Now batting the designated hitter, Ivon Ivon Herrera. Next up for the Cardinals, he’s 0 for one. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand. One down, base is empty. That’s a ball. One and one. Swang and a miss. Looked off balance that time. Clearly, he was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes on the ground to third. Slings it across. Two up, two down. Good armside run to that same side hitter right there. Very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through it. Just pours in on the hands. Now the left fielder, Alec Burlson. [Music] That one’s upstairs. Ball one. That clips the corner. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. That’s out to center field. Tatis settles underneath it, makes the catch. That is the inning. Back here at Bush Stadium, we go to the top of the fifth. Stepping in for San Diego, Elas Diaz. Michael back to work. Fast is outside. You know, these Padres’s, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. We’ve already seen eight line drives from them. And it’s always a good sign when the ball is jumping off your bat. And that’s what this offense has been doing so far today. On the ground to first and that one handled, steps on first for the out. That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit, hit the ball on the ground, kill some worms while you’re at it. Jr. So with one down, it’ll bring up Fernando Tatis Jr. I think when you contemplate him as a player, the first thing you think about is defense and you think about that great arm. I also think about the speed. If he can get on, that’s going to give one more thing for that pitcher to think about. That one catches the corner for a strike. [Applause] Hard ground ball. Base knock. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Everything came together for him. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Swinging a foul straight back. Tatis the base runner at first with one out. That one outside and now it’s even one and one. Runner on the move. Next offering is fouled back. Michael throws to first. Tatis dives back in up the middle and there’s a base hit. Tatis around second. The throw to third in there safely. I don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. Here’s Manny Machado. Picked up an RBI in his last at bat. Still their only run of the game so far. Swinging a foul out of play. [Music] Two on, one out. Out there to center. Scott. Long run. He makes the grab. Another tagging and heading for home. It’s a sack fly as he comes across to score and they take a two-run lead. There you go. Nice little RBI there. It’s a great at bat. Got the job done. Here’s Xander Bogarts. [Applause] [Applause] Ball one to Bogarts. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Sunny Gray appears to be getting loose. Grapho getting loose as well. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. [Applause] Had a good eye there. [Applause] That one blasted deep to right. That’s down. One hops off the wall. coming home. He will score. Picks himself up an RBI. He hit that ball really well to deep right field right there. Got a pitch to drive and just stayed through it nicely. Didn’t quite have the trajectory to clear the fence, but you’re always happy with an extra base hit. Here comes a manager out of the Cardinals dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan. Miles Michaelus departs and it’s going to be a start that he’d like to get a redo on. Not his best. Back with a new arm in a minute. Now pitching Sunny Gray into the game. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. [Applause] So runner at second, two down. Gavin Sheets, the next up for the Padres’s in for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] right side. Donovan, fires over to first. They limit the damage here. Two runs, three hits, no errors, and one left. Home half of the fifth coming up. It’s a Padres’s three and the Cardinals nothing. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And here’s the first baseman, Wilson Contrus. Contras. First off, and it just misses. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there and have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. You know, these cards, they’re not going to be happy with the ad bats they’ve been having so far. Just one base runner to this point, and it’s not exactly early anymore. They’ve got players in this lineup capable of sparking something, but it just hasn’t happened for them yet. [Applause] right side hard hit and he handles it himself for the out. Now batting third baseman Nolan Aronado. Here’s Nolan Aronado. A single his first time. Let’s go. That clips the inside corner for a strike. And there’s the strike. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an 02 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down. Foul ball still 0 and two. The Padres’s leading by three. Last half of inning number five. Next pitch is outside. Really nice slider right there. Sweeping across the dish but just couldn’t hang the edge. And that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catch are on the same page right now. Mason win next up for the Cardinals. He’s 0 for one and a sweeper misses for a ball. Misses outside and now two and 0. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. That’s in there. Two and one now. Really nice spot there on that 200 to get back in the count. I mean, hitters looking to turn on something, but tough pitch like that, he’s just going to take it. Still two and two after the foul ball. Stays alive. [Music] In the air. Right field. Makes the catch in and over. back here in St. Louis. And now the shorts stop, Joseius. Joseius. Eiglacius in his 11th season, 35 years old and he was born in Cuba. First pitch and he just misses. Move into the bullpen for the Cardinals. Kyle Ley getting ready to go. the 10. That one fouled off in there for a strike at the top of the zone. Really good cutter that he’s able to front door and back door. That pitch is devastating. Short stop takes a ball [Music] in the air left field and that’ll fall for a base hit. Had a good start to the inning. A late jump and I think that was the difference on the play. Boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. Now it’s the second baseman Jake Croninworth. fouled off. He was late. Croninworth a seventh round pick by the Rays in 2015 out of the University of Michigan where he was a two-way guy and in fact the Rays used him that way. Glacius aboard here at first with nobody out. Runner on the go. There’s a ball and they got him. [Applause] Swag and a miss as he was late that time. Just threw that fast ball by him, elevated and if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. Base is empty, one away, and we’re the top half of the six. This one popped off. Win sizing this one up and puts the squeeze on that one. Out number two. Now batting right fielder Bryce Johnson. Two down, base is empty. Next for the Padres’s, Bryce Johnson for two in this one. Right through there for a strike. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole, he’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Ball one there. 02 curve right there. Hitter kind of expects that. And good job of just showing that confidence and trying to get back into this count. [Music] Not close with that one. Ball two. Got him looking as the fast ball runs back over the inside corner. One hit in the inning, but no one left. 789 two up in the home half of the inning. It’s the Padres’s three and the Cardinals nothing. Back here in St. Louis digging in Joho number 63. [Music] First pitch just misses. Go. That’s in right now. Behind in the count. Two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. St. Louis. That’s a strike and it’s two and one now. [Music] Highf fly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. [Applause] Swang and a miss. Struck him out. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound. went right after him with that two strike pitch as he continues to roll on the mound. Yeah, he’s not out there trying to nibble at all. He is attacking the strike zone. And I think when your confidence builds as the start goes on, still putting up all zeros on the scoreboard gives you a lot of confidence that you can really continue to go after these hitters. And that wasn’t the best pitch for the strike out there. And he probably admit that, but he got it by him. arise makes the play and there’s two down center fielder Victor Scott. Two out space is empty now for St. Louis Victor Scott. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that a hitter or two is bonus. But they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Shorten the bunt and missed it. And the count one and two. Tried to bunt for a hit right there. And you can tell he’s trying to get something anything going offensively. cut on and missed. And it’s a strike out. And that is the inning. And down in order go the Cardinals. They trail it here. 3 nothing. Top of inning number seven. Here’s the catcher, Elias Diaz. Called strike right there. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Foul ball there. the 02 breaking ball misses down and away. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an O2 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch and he chases that one and there’s one away. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time little anxious. Fernando Tatiz Jr. to hit here in there at the knees. 0 and one. Off the plate. Ball one. Swings and misses. Went with the sweeper. One ball, two strikes. Good job to fight that one off. Tatis waits just off the outside edge. Two and two. Well, I I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. One down, base is empty. Line drive base hit. Now batting first baseman Luis Ara. Run around at first with one gone. Luis Araz the next up for the Padres’s. One for three. That’s outside and it’s one and0. misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Last two pitches have been down in the zone. Pitcher clearly trying to get that ground ball double play, but in this count, he’s going to have to give in, elevate his pitches, and get back into this at bat. Tatis runs. Strike in there. throw to second. He’s safe. That was close. But Stackcast shows us why he so often seems to be on the safe side of these steel attempts, Chris. Yeah, you see that plus speed and he needed every last bit of it to swipe that bag. Such a threat on the bases. But you won. Next offering is outside. [Music] And that’s in for a strike. Three and two now. That one ripped right center field. This one looks like trouble. run comes in from second and they’re up by four. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. A lot of hitters tell themselves line drive over the infielder’s head. That’s what I’m trying to do. Just keep that approach simple. And right there it was perfectly executed on time with everything and pulled it into the gap nicely. Here’s Manny Machado now. [Applause] He swings and misses at the first pitch. Hole and one. One out and a runner at second here in the top half of inning number seven. [Applause] Next one is off the play and the count even one and one [Applause] and that’s outside. When the skipper calls down to the bullpen, he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs. So far, not getting what he was hoping for. [Applause] That one misses three and one. Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So I think the confidence level is raised right here. And ball four to a board. How big a deal is that walk? I don’t think it’s a big deal because if you pitch to the previous hitter. With the power he has, he can hit a home run. I think it was a calculated walk. We’ll see how it pays off here. [Music] [Applause] Bulgart’s at the plate now. That’s ball one. Well, he’s already in some trouble and falling behind in the count makes it even worse. Then you’ve got to throw the ball over more of the plate and that’s where they can really do damage against a guy like this. Arise the lead runner out at second. Machado at first. One gone. [Applause] Two on, one out. Little chopper rolls foul. [Applause] Next offering upstairs. [Applause] And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Runners at first and second with one gone. Foul ball and it remains a full count. [Applause] spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another [Music] three and two now. Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Squeezes it. Runner tags it second and he’s up to third safely with two gone. Up next for the Padres’s, left fielder Gavin Sheep. There comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Now pitching Kyle taking over on the mound. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. So digging in now for San Diego, Gavin Sheets 0 for three in this one. Pitch misses inside and that’s ball one. Runners at the corners with two outs. [Applause] And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even [Applause] out towards right center field. Scott gets under it, makes the grab, and that’s the third out. But a run will score in the inning on this RBI double. It’s now a 4 nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show set for the last half of the seventh. And here’s the St. Louis leadoff man, Brendan Donovan. Check swing to the first pitch. Look down to third. Eddie White, says Larry Bullard. [Music] down the right field line and a base hit and they had their first base runner since the second inning. Only two hits allowed so far tonight. So, I don’t think that one will disrupt his momentum all that much. You know, he’s really been on top of his game, commanding his pitches all night long. And the Padres’s manager making his way towards the mound as he will make the move. That does it for you, Darvish. And he was a tough nut to crack. Pretty stingy from start to finish. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now pitching for pitching change here. Jeremiah Estrada. And he’s got a nice lead to work with. So he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. Man at first, nobody out. Ivon Herrera getting ready to hit. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. Well, the leadoff man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully, the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. Come on. Fouled off left side. 0 and two now. Got him looking. He’s got to be frustrated with that call. So he gets the call and picks up the strike out looking. Sometimes with a good hitter at the plane, he’ll be the one to get the benefit of the doubt if he lays off on a close pitch like that. but just not right there. Strike zone definitely expand a little bit with two strikes. Here’s the left fielder, Alec Burlson, and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. And now the 01 and that’s in there at the knees. Movement in the bullpen. Yuki Matsui, the young lefty, looks to be getting himself ready. Morome the power lefty up as well. [Music] Next offering upstairs. Boo. I’m not sure how he took that right there. I mean, that was an incredible two- strike pitch. Next one misses. Now two and two. Come on St. Louis. The count’s full. Gets a piece and stays alive. Man at first. One away. That one the other way. Glaciius on Cronin. Double play. And that’ll do it for the inning. Starting to run out of outs as they’re unable to chip away. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Padres’s four and the Cardinals nothing. Back here at Bush Stadium. New inning getting started. Stepping in for San Diego, Jose Glacius. St. Louis. Fast for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Action in the St. Louis bullpen. Phil Mahon, a right-hander with big strikeout stuff, is getting it fired up. Cut on and lifted in the air. One up, one down. Now batting second baseman Jake Croninworth. Jake Croninworth digs in now. Let’s go. That hits the dirt. One and0. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Swings through that one for strike one. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Next pitch is outside. swing and a highf fly ball right field. That one back. That one on its way and it’s gone. Jake Croninworth will touch them all. His ninth homer of the year. It’s five zip. That was blasted. Absolutely. No doubt off the bat. knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. Bryce Johnson now at the plate 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. Misses off the play. Ball one. out to short. Now they get the out. Now batting catcher. Two down. Base is empty. And here’s the catcher Elias Diaz. [Applause] First pitch not close. [Music] Back-to-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. [Applause] So a foul ball makes it one and two. [Applause] Two outs. Got him. Swinging some high cheese for strike three. But the solo shot stretches their lead even further and the lead is now 5 nothing. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back ready for the bottom of the eighth. And up to hit is Wilson Cont. [Music] Estrada back to work. Ball one, no strikes. [Music] Fly ball down the line. Sheets on his way over and he can’t quite get there. It’s a foul ball. That misses. Two and two. of the eighth. Now batting third baseman Nolan Aronado. Here’s Nolan Aronado. One for two. Come on. And first offering is fouled off. The Padres’s leading by five here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. And a slider misses down and away. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. So a foul ball makes it one and two. All slider so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. That pitch just misses the inside corner. Two balls, two strikes. Two strikes. Next off misses down and away. He goes down looking. Now that is two outs, space is empty. Mason win the next to hit. Just missed. Counts one and0. swing and a miss as he was out front that time. [Music] Next pitch in for a strike. One and two. And they’ll do it again. Let’s go. Comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt. That completes the strikeout. Inning over. Now pitching Phil on a pitch out of the pen here and he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. Now it’s Fernando Tatis Jr. He’s a guy Chris’s highlights include some of the best throws from the outfield that you will ever see. Definitely one of the best arms in the sport. He swings and fouls one off. Yeah, the infielders and the catcher can never give up on a play because if this guy thinks he has a chance, he’s going to throw it from the warning track if he has to. Got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. No balls, two strikes. [Applause] Bomb. One ball, two strikes to count [Applause] right through there. Got him. And a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Luis Aas the next up for the Padres’s. [Applause] And first offering is fouled off. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. [Applause] One down. Base is empty. in the air center field. Wind sizes this one up, hauls it in for the owl. Two down. That’s a really nice play ranging back into the outfield for that catch. We all know those can be a little tricky, especially if the wind’s swirling around out there. Manny Machado up to the plate. [Applause] And Manny gets a piece. Two down. Nobody on here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] Just missed. One ball, one strike. [Applause] That’s a little bit low. [Applause] on the ground to short. Win throws to first and the inning is over. Three up, three down that time. Bottom part of the order. 789. Two up in inning number nine. It’s the Padres’s five and the Cardinals nothing. now pitching for back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth. Adrien Morome and we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy man and one of the better ones in the game I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. And now the catcher comes up to him who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. [Applause] Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Up next for the Cardinals. Now, it’s the right fielder, Jordan Walker. Jordan Walker. And ball one to the right fielder. Poso gets his lead at first. Nobody out. [Applause] And that’s fouled off. [Applause] The 1-1. Two balls in the dirt. Rudder at first with no outs here. [Applause] Swing and that ball smashed on the line. He’s got it. One down. Now batting center fielder Victor Scott the second. And now Victor Scott. Yeah, that’s too high. This guy absolutely flies. The defense wants to turn two, but they’ve got to get a ball they can do it with. Make sure you get the first out before you try to rush and get two and end up with nothing. And another ball. [Applause] That one finds the zone and it’s two and one. [Applause] That one missed. One strike. [Applause] late on that fast ball. That was the pitch to hit. Forcing fast ball instead of that sinker ball that makes you hit it on the ground. He missed a good one. [Applause] The other way. Calls it in. Two away. Now batting second baseman Brendan Donovan. So it’s their last chance in this one. Now a chance for Brendan Donovan. And that misses off the outside edge. [Applause] This one in the dirt. And there’s a foul ball. Might want to start that load a little bit sooner because of the good VLOO. [Applause] [Applause] One strike away. Ground ball and this should do it. Throw to first ball game and the Padres’s use three pitchers to combine for the shut out. Sometimes it takes just getting away from home. players can sort of come together, connect a little bit more than they do when they’re at home with their families, and that can breed to success on the field as we saw in this game today. Excellent win by this team. 5 nothing the final in this one. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB The Show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
