Emma Meesseman joins New York Liberty’s superteam!

The New York Liberty, they just got even stronger. Earlier this week, the team announced the signing of former Finals MVP Emma Misiman. And look, this move could be the piece that pushes them from contenders to dynasty builders. Misman isn’t just a name. She’s a winner. A WNBA champion, a Euro Basket gold medalist, and a player who fits into this Liberty system pretty seamlessly. Offensively, she brings a rare blend of skill and poise. She’s a 6’4 forward who can shoot it, pass it, and make plays out of the high post. She’s a career 52% field goal shooter and can stretch defenses with her mid-range and spot of ability. And let’s not forget her playmaking. She averaged five assists per game in her last full WNBA season as a forward. That’s special dimeropping, folks. Now, think about her fit on this roster. She gives the Liberty a second unit that can run the same sets with the same efficiency. Briana Stewart and John Quil Jones, they can now get a breather and Misman steps in to keep the offense fluid. Her basketball IQ elite on the defensive end. She’s not a shot blocker per se, but she’s smart, disciplined team defender, and she rotates, communicates, and understands schemes at a high level. She’s been in a variety of defensive systems in the W and internationally and always adapts. So, what does this mean for the Liberty? Well, they’re deeper. They’re more versatile. And they’re better equipped to repeat. Remember last year, they took down a very deep Minnesota Lynx team to win it all. And that wasn’t easy. The Lyns, they brought firepower and balance. And the Liberty, they had to dig deep to match that. Adding Misiman gives them another answer, another option in high stakes moments, another player who’s been there and has won. So, are they the favorites to win it all again in 2025? Well, right now, it’s hard to argue otherwise. The Mercury, they’re going to have a say. The Lynx, they’re still a serious threat with the current best record in the W. But the Liberty, they’ve added a champion to a championship core, and that might just be enough to go back to back.

After the defending WNBA champion Liberty signed Emma Meesseman, Dexter Henry breaks down what the former Finals MVP adds to a loaded New York roster that’s facing significant opposition in their attempt to win back-to-back titles.
