🔴LIVE🔴Miami Marlins vs Milwaukee Brewers/July 25/ Envivo/ MLB The show 25

second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Miami Marlins and the Milwaukee Brewers. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about ready to go getting the nod in this one. Quinn Pster and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. Just missed. Next offering is in for a strike. That one to first. Black takes it to the bag. One up, one down. And time now for the Marlins lineup. They do a lot of things well in this offense. Singi, they control the strike zone. They make pitchers work hard for outs. And as a result, one of the better OBP teams in the league. Well, what I love about it is it’s an organizational philosophy. Whether you go to instructional league, whether you go to spring training, you see these players, even during batting practice, when it doesn’t matter, they’re practicing that type of approach. Boo. And when you have that filtering through the organization, even when you call up a player, they step right in and continue with the pattern that they have established at this level, which ultimately leads to a lot of success. The next pitch misses now 2 and 0. You know, you translate on base percentage, it’s basically this. Teams that have a high on base percentage, they don’t make outs at a very high rate. As my buddy Joe Sheen says, OBP is life. One out, base is empty. And there’s the automatic. Fouls one away. And now three and two. Good job to fight that one off. And he walked him. And that’s their first base runner of the game. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Now it’s the shortstop Otto Lopez. First pitch just misses. Sanchez the base runner at first with one out. Brewers. And another ball. Check. Swing. Called. Strike. Milwaukee. Swing. in a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Quick throw back in. Lead runner holds it second with one gone. But we don’t think that pitch would have been called a strike, but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock. Kyle Sters the next to hit. He’s been on fire at the dish lately, hitting better than 350 this month. Swing and a highf fly ball deep left field into the corner but foul. One out. Runners at first and second. Missed with a change up and that is ball one at the dish. Looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning. Ending double play. Boo. Swaging a bouncer. Slings to first in time. Well, with this many pitches thrown here in this first inning, I mean, you’re giving the other team a really good look. He’s going to have to find a way to get some weak contact, maybe a swing and miss, get into that dugout and hit the reset button. And now Augustine Ramirez. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. Pitch misses. One and0. Just missing off the plate there according to the umpire. And out there on the mound maybe trying to get an explanation. Can’t say he’s convinced, but it looks like he’s accepted it. No, that’s next pitch is outside. I almost feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Liam Hicks in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And that’ll load the bases. Four pitches. That’s an easy walk, man. He could have walked me right there, boo. The last one wasn’t even close. Liamick. Liam Hicks. The next up for the Marlins. There’s the sinker at the knees for a strike. And that’s off the outside edge and one and one. Two outs. Bases are full. Swang and a miss. There’s that change up. Chopped to first. Black. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So they load the bases but leave them stranded. And now the Brewers will get their first cuts. No score. And we’re back getting the nod on the mound. Sandy Alcantara and Singi. It’s unique these days, but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy. Yeah, Boogie. He doesn’t rely too heavily on the strike out. He knows he needs to miss barrels, get some soft contact, let the defense do work behind him. And I think a guy like that can keep a good tempo, don’t give hitters time to adjust or think, they can move through a ball game and you look off, they’re in line for a quality start. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Bryce Terra leading things off and takes a strike. on the ground to third and foul ball. The other way and that’s just foul. runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance. Get him out of there and deal with the next guy. William Contrus batting with one down. takes a strike. That one called a strike and it’s 0 and two. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Caught on and lifted in the air. Sters makes the play and there’s two away. Okay, let’s check out the lineup. Bad exec, a really important guy for them. William Contreres. Well, he’s an important part of this lineup for sure. I mean, there’s no doubt about it, Boo. It’s somebody that they try to feed off of. He does a lot of things, you know, very well up there at the plate. He’s got a presence about him and, you know, he’s a guy that you really kind of like to watch swing the bat. Christian Yelich stands in here. Leaves that one off the inside. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock and that extends the inning. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Jackson Chorio. He’s one of the faster guys just by pure sprint speed in the majors. Over to first and he saved at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. That’s down and in. Strike two. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Yell off of first with two away and a pop off right side. in foul territory and that is that Brewers Strand one scoreless after one back here at American Family Field. And here’s the catcher, Nick Forez. Milwaukee Pster back to work just off the outside edge and it’s one and0. He was all over that one. showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy, didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep, took the barrel right to it, and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. And now here’s the Marlins DH. Graham Paulie first offering and it just misses. runner on the go. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Lead runner to second. So, two on and nobody out. Back to back base hits. I know that was a ground ball, but it was absolutely hammered through the infield. That’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder. You know they used to say charge it crazy runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. And now Javier Senoha. That pitch clips the outside corner. That’s strike one. No outs. Runners at first and second. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Belly left that change up. Got away with one there and he’ll take it, but doesn’t want to make that mistake again. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Brings it in. Runner tags it second. He makes it to third. Good base running to move up with only one out. Good read there at second base to move up to third. Now it’s a lot easier to get that run in with one away. Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here. Grounded out his first time up. That misses and that’s ball one. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. And that is out of play. Brothers at the corners. One away here in the top of the second. And that one got a piece of him. Jesus Sanchez. The next up for the Marlins. Golden opportunity right here. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Check swing called strike. I think ultimately you want to tie him up. Get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. Swing and a miss. That’s strike two. Knowing that the pitcher wants a ground ball double play opportunity here. You’ve got to lay off pitches down in the zone right there. Swinging at that pitch. That’s a no no. Got him looking. Huge strike out there. Oh, that was such a great opportunity to grab the lead. You had the infield back. All you’ve got to do is just put the ball in play on the ground and you drive across a run. It’s a frustrating outcome for the hitter. now still have a chance, but it’s probably going to take a clutch hit with two outs. Otto Lopez getting ready to hit. One for one with a single so far. And he pumps in a strike. Two outs. Come back to the mound in plenty of time to first out to escape a bases loaded jam unscathed. So they strand three and leave them loaded. We go to the bottom of inning number two. No score. Back here in Milwaukee, we head to the bottom of the second. And now Isaac Collins. Collins. Collins getting to start in left, hitting fifth in today’s lineup. And he was a ninth round draft pick back in 2019. Man, 91 on the slider right there. That’s a hard one. That’s a low-end fast ball for some pitchers. That one misses and the count is one and one. that one down the line. Fires over to first and a quick out number one. That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit, hit the ball on the ground, kill some worms while you’re at it. Tyler Black up now for the Brewers. Put that 600 slugging into context. The league average usually in the low 400s. Here comes the 01. Hit on the ground to the right side and it goes just fouled. Second inning here. No score. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt and it beats him for out number two. That’s a strikeout. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. And now here’s the speed threat. Outfielder Blake Perkins hard on the ground to first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Nobody left for Milwaukee. We’ll move to the third with no score. And welcome back to the ballpark. Now the left fielder Kyle Sters pulled hard but it’s a foul ball. Ball one low. Just missed. That one misses. Ball three. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. It’s a leadoff walk and that’s the go-ahead run. Well, he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Augustine Ramirez the next up for the Marlins. Ramirez having a really nice first season in the big leagues. Definitely a rookie of the year candidate. Downing ball here. Rolls. Foul. Ground ball. Could be two. And he can’t come up with it. And it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. That’s a good piece of hitting right there. The job was to move the runner up and give your team a chance to score the go-ahead run. That’s exactly what happened. So, you better believe your teammates are happy with you after that at bat. Hicks in the box with one away as he takes ball one. Maybe a surprise here as the bullpen is already stirring. Aaron Ashby getting ready to go. Mirs getting cranked up as well. And a base hit on a line heading for the plate. He will score and they take the lead. It’s an RBI single. One- nothing. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. That’s about as textbook as it gets. Got his stride and load out of the way early. He stayed inside that ball and squared it up out front. Man, that was like he was in the cage hitting off a TE. One down, runner at first. Here’s the catcher, Nick Forez. That one ripped. That’s a base hit. And they’ll have runners at the corners after a one-out single. Didn’t take long to get a result for that at bat. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch. And that’s how you do it. Now it’s the DH Graham Paulie and he’s already singled in this game and he hits a ground ball right side. Nice stop. The feed for one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Now, I promise you, they’re guys that get a little bit faster when they can smell an RBI. That was a possible inning ending double play. Great hustle and he gets rewarded with the RBI because of it. Here’s the third baseman, Javier Senoha. He’s 0 for one. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Paulie the runner at first with two gone. That one missed. And there’s a foul ball and a ground ball to first and it gets by him. And that’ll put runners at the corners with two away. Now batting second base manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Quinn Pster won’t go any further tonight and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. New pitcher on now Jared Kanig just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. And now for the Marlins, Xavier Edwards, his home and away splits there. Let’s go. All right, Brewers. Milwaukee. They get the force that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. But two runs for them and they jump ahead. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Marlins two and the Brewers nothing as we go to the last of the third. Up now for Milwaukee. Anthony Seagler. Oh, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there and have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. Swinging a foul back that’s out of play. Missed with a change up. Ball two. This one chopped on the ground but foul. That one misses. So a lead off walking nse. And now the short stop, Joseph Ortiz, good defender. He’s been inconsistent offensively. And that’s a strike. Here’s the one. They had a swing and a miss there. Man, he was really tardy on that fast ball. Great job of setting him up by throwing the curveball. Add some velocity to it on the next pitch. Can’t catch up. Right. Delivers. Fights it off. You’ll see another. Cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. This is Bryce Terra led off the game with a strikeout. That’s a little bit low. This guy absolutely flies. The defense wants to turn two, but they’ve got to get a ball they can do it with. Make sure you get the first out before you try to rush and get two and end up with nothing. That one is absolutely belted. bangs off the wall. Runner around third. The relay throw. He’s safe. And now they trail by one. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. One out, runner at second. William Contreres up now for the Brewers. First pitch misses. As a pitcher, you know, the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run. So, you really have to execute on the mound. And that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball two. Well, this is a little tough for the hitter in the back of the mind. You’re wondering with first base open, am I going to get a pitch to hit? Got to stay back. Let your hands work. Stay in the middle of the field. There’s the strike. This one in the air right field drops into the glove. Grounder tags at second and he’s up to third safely with two gone. Up next for the Brewers designated hitter Christian. Here’s Yelich at the dish. Swinging it much better this season in away games than here at home. That one catches the corner for a strike. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone. Terra at third with two away. And a count one and two. You got this. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Two outs. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Outside corner. Got him looking. He can’t believe it. Well, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. And we’re back now. The number two hitter, Jesus Sanchez. splits the plate and one. You know, these Marlins do a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. They’ve worked three walks already, so that proves they’re not anxious up there. They’re sticking to their game plan, and it’s working. Swings through that one. fouls it off. Still one and two and that’s down and away. Hanging in there pretty good against the lefty. swing and a popup. Seagler settles under it and he makes the catch and there’s one away. Oh, that’s a frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter right there. I mean, that pitch was right down the middle. I think he got a little too excited, came out of his mechanics, and instead of driving that ball somewhere, he popped it up. Unfortunate for him. Lopez up to the plate for the third time as he looks at one down low. Check swing and he went strike one. One down, base is empty. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Foul ball still a one and two count outside with a breaking ball. Really good take especially with two strikes upstairs and it’s three and two. Still just the second batter of the inning and on the mound he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got them working hard out there. Swang in a line drive. That’s a base hit into center field. He forced a lot of pitches to be thrown and ends up collecting a hit. Up next for the Marlins leftielder. Here’s the left fielder Kyle Sters. Inside just missed. Man at first. One away. Step off. Throw to first. Lopez back in on a dive. And that’s off the inside edge and it’s two and 0. That smashed towards center. He’s got it. That’s out number two. That was just a great jump and route to the ball. Well, it had to be. If he was going to cover all that ground and bring in that sinking liner, that’s the way it had to be done. Nice job. And up next for Miami, Augustine Ramirez. And that drops in for a strike. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Two outs. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. It’s a ball in two strikes. Ru takes off up the middle. Ortiz gets it to first and that is that. Marlins leave one. They lead it 2-1. Back here at American Family Field. And the batter now, Jackson Chorio slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. Swinging a ground ball. Steps on first for the out. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. Collins. Isaac Collins up now for the Brewers. 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. Well, both sides equally as strong. So, not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. And that one fouled off. You know, this guy’s great speed is in the back of that pitcher’s mind. If he can get on, it’s going to give him one more thing he’s got to think about. Puts it in the air out towards left center. Sters sizes this one up, brings it in and that quickly two away. Now batting first base. Tyler Black up now for the Brewers. 0 for one so far. It immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. This guy’s pounding the zone. Hitters don’t have time to think in between pitches. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. One and two count. Well, as a pitcher, when you make a big pitch down around the knees and don’t get the call, it’ll lead at you out there. So, some handle it a little bit better than others. And right here, clearly letting the ump hear it a little bit. Swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. Three up, three down for Milwaukee. And our score remains 2-1. Here comes the new arm for the Brewers. Aaron Ashby. Pretty tight game. So, they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Well, one-run game. And here’s the first baseman, Liam Hicks. delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Ashb, the lefty who lights up the radar gun. He features a sinker, a change up, a curve, and he works in a slider. No need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch. BS that off to the left and will do it again. That one close. Rule the ball. Now one and two stays alive. Sit him down. The one two smoked on the ground to second. Terra over to first in time and the leadoff hitter retired in the fifth. And now the catcher comes up to him, Nick Forez. He’s two for two. And first offering is fouled off. Come on. Just missed. Oh, great stop. fires to first and they get the out. Two out, space is empty. And at the plate for Miami, Graham Paulie that misses the zone. Ball one. And a foul ball. Two out. Space is empty. Swinging a miss and a count. One and two. Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Nothing doing for the Marlins as they’re unable to add to their 2-1 lead. Back now to start the bottom of the fifth and taking over on the mound, Calvin Foch. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. offer and now the center fielder Blake Perkins grounded out his first time singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. That’s in there. And it’s 0 and one. And I would say that most great defensive outfielders, it’s kind of natural. There is some work that you can do to it uh to improve your game, but ultimately you either have it or you don’t. swings and misses. Struck him out. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Well, that was the cutter down and in right there. And typically, if you’re going to have a chance with the pitch, if it’s down, that’s your best chance of doing anything with it. It’s kind of like a mini slider, just with a little less vertical movement. But still, that one tied him up and he couldn’t get the barrel to it. This is Anthony Seagler. He reached out to walk his first time. That one finds the corner and that’s strike one. Late swing fouled to the left. Looking to get the tying run on base and that’s in the dirt. chopped to the right side. He’ll do it himself. Old man for the fifth inning. Moving along. Two quick outs. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff. Just like we saw, Ortiz stands in with two away as he takes a ball. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. One swing and a miss. Ugly swing right there. On the ground to short tosses across to first. Three up, three down. Inning over. Brewers go down quietly. They’re down two to one. Back here in Milwaukee now, the third baseman, Javier Senoha. It’s interesting. He plays kind of a a power spot defensively, but runs pretty well. So, when you’re looking at that position, you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed, but he does. Black steps on the bag now. One gone. in the top of the sixth. Now it’s the second baseman, Xavier Edwards, a switch hitter batting right, taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Movement in Milwaukee’s bullpen. Abner Uribe, the right-handed sinker baller. He looks to be readying himself. Miserowski getting loose as well. And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. Next one misses and that’s ball three. What about him playing another position on defense, one that would require a little more range? Absolutely. And I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game, it’d surprise a lot of people. You might even be able to put him in center field. And now it’s filled up. The 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four. It’s not easy laying off that pitch. It’s designed to fool you, but he just wasn’t fooled at all. Jesus. So up next, Jesus Sanchez that clips the corner just off the inside edge on the ground left side. Six four three. It’s a double play and that’ll do it for the inning. Offense held in check there. Top of the order. Do up in the home half of the six. It’s the Marlins two and the Brewers one. So, the closer summoned from the bullpen, Ronnie Enriquez. Now, this is an extremely confident pitcher. He loves the pressure. Actually likes the oneun game better than a comfortable three-run save opportunity because that’s when he pitches his best. Terra stands in now. Looks at that one inside. Now, Boo, this is a real tough place for visiting teams to come in and close out ball games for a win. Hard ground ball base knock. And they have their first base runner since the third inning. Just a clutch at bat right there. Big time swing when this team really needed it. Smashed that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. And now, let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. No outs, runner at first. William Contreras up now for the Brewers. Go for two in this one. That’s in there. It’s 0 and one. Tying run at first. The winning run at the plate. Check on the runner. Terang back on a dive. Way out front for strike two with two strikes. may see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. And that one is lifted in the air. Sanchez gets under it. Puts it away for the Here comes Christian Yelich. One for two. Oh, with pretty good speed over there at first base. I think the pitcher’s got to slow everything down. Hold the ball a little bit, step off, just try to break the rhythm and timing of a potential base stealer. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. The one that one hooked foul trying to close out a one-run lead and the home team trying to pull it out. Next offering way off the plate. Got him looking for the strike out. Just one out remaining for the Brewers. Jackson Chorio up now for the Brewers. And there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd, right? I mean, yeah, I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure. Little chopper rolls foul. Terra leads off first with two down to the inning. Well, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it. Hicks steps on the bag himself. Ball game. Well, we saw a lot of good pitching and defense in this ball game. When you have a lowscoring game, it’s imperative that the players stay on their toes, ready to make plays behind their pitcher, and they did exactly that. It’s an excellent win. Everyone goes in the clubhouse feeling really good about themselves. And your final score here today, 2-1 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show. Thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
