MLB LIVE🔴 Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 26, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Baseball from the Lone Star State. An ALO West matchup on the show. It’s the Athletics taking on the Houston Astros. First pitch coming your way next. Almost ready to get underway. And towing the slab in this one. Colton Gordon. And Chris, he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough. Well, he’s been giving up a lot of hard contact this season. I mean, coming in, guys are hitting comfortably in the high 200s. So many times there’s some bad luck, but then also there’s just a little miss here or a little miss there that changes the outcome of the at bat. We’ll see if he can be consistent and make adjustments quickly in this one. Next pitch is outside. line drive makes the catch and there’s one gone and time now to check out the A’s lineup and an important bat for them batting fifth in this one. Shay Langalers and Boog. He’s a fun at bat to watch. I mean definitely a threat whenever he’s got that bat in his hands but for me it’s it’s all about the mechanics. They’re so sound and when he gets his foot down on time and starts his swing, so much consistency that bat stays in the zone for a long time and he squares up the baseball a lot. Jacob Wilson batting with one down takes the strike. Well, a good slider from an opposite-handed pitcher has to stay in that tunnel just a little bit longer, otherwise recognition can cause you to barrel it up. And right there, the hitter clearly couldn’t do anything with it. He goes down looking. Oh, you know that’s got to be very frustrating for this guy. He knows the strike zone extremely well. And you know what? Good hitters are not going to compromise. He’ll take that punch out, but ultimately stick with his plan and have more success than anything else. Two down, base is empty. Now it’s the rookie first baseman, Nick Curts. Just missed. 10. No, that missed. That’s a ball. Two outs. Base is empty. And there’s the strike. Two balls, one strike. And a fast ball clips the outside corner for a strike. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Brent Rooker next to bat for the A’s. in the air left side. Trel hauls it into Indiana. No score as we head to the bottom of the first back here in Houston. And on the mound in this one, Jacob Lopez. Chris, how about a scouting report? Well, what quickly stands out to me for this guy is that he comes in with a 3 to1 strikeout to walk ratio on the season. So, when you consider consistency, the ability to get swings and misses and to limit base runners, that’s critical in winning games today, especially when teams are depending on the big swing, the home run to win ball games. Yeah, the batter now, Cam Smith, in there at the knees for a strike. No balls, one strike. That one not close and the count even. One and one. Hit hard. shoot the extra bases. Around first and hustling for second and he’s there with a lead off double. Oh, that’ll make you feel good as a hitter right there. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Jose Altuve up to hit here. Edge of the zone for a strike. 0 and one. Altuve has a lot of history with the Astros. In fact, he’s played so many seasons in Houston that he’s the only player to be named an all-star in both leagues while playing for the same team. You know, Boo Albe goes back all the way to those Astros days in the NL Central before they move to the AO West. One one and that one fouled off. Well, they gave up on that pitch early and it ended up staying in the zone. I’m sure he’s kicking himself and would like that pitch again. ly in the left center. Base hit. Headed for the plate. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single and it’s one- nothing. Well, he wasn’t afraid to hit with two strikes. I think he choked up a little bit, maybe spread out, but he got the job done right there. Vic Karatini at the plate. He’s done a great job making contact recently, hitting better than 350 this month. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Swing and a miss. There’s that change up. Benny really sells the change up with that arm action. Ground ball right side and foul ball. He’s mixing his pitches really well late on that fast ball after seeing the change up. See if he can elevate one. I think if he does he’ll get the swing and miss. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Good eye right there. Really good take especially with two strikes. Ground ball left side and it goes just fouled. That’s down and in. A slider missed. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. Makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. Next one just misses and the count’s full. Good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and just on the edge and that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Well, getting a good look at the pitcher here in the first inning isn’t a bad thing. I know he struck out, but you can live with that as long as the other hitters in this lineup can learn something from it. And now it’s Christian Walker. Really strong hitting performance recently. Batting over 300. Altuve runs on the ground to third. Fires across the diamond. No chance at the double play with the runner in motion. Now we check out the Astros lineup. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus. Cam Smith. And Boo with a lefty on the bump in this one. and he’s got a good shot to go off. Batting over 400 against lefties this season. So, you know, he’s salivating a little bit as he walks to home plate. Look for him to have a big impact with this lefty on the mound. Taylor Trill at the plate now. That’s ball one. This one high in the air to left center. Butler in position, squeezes it and the inning is over, but the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show back here in Houston. And now the DH, Brent Rooker. Gordon back to work. Brooker batting in the cleanup spot and he’s usually in the outfield. Today he’s the DH swaying and a miss and it’s nothing and two and that skips in the dirt. Out to short. Short zips it to first. One out in the second. Shay Langers. Shay Langalers. The next to hit right through there for a strike. Well, the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff, so he’s going to have to work efficiently. One out, base is empty. Swing and a miss. Curve in the dirt. Keratini collects, fires to first. Got him. Two gone after the strikeout. Made quick work of him right there, Sigy. I know that’s the kind of at bat maybe leaves a lot of fans wondering what was he doing up there, right? Yeah, and I get that. I mean, you take two straight strikes, then chase one way out of the zone. It’s It’s just not a good at bat. It’ll leave you shaking your head as a hitter, if not worse. But there’s always going to be those trips to the plate where you’re just lost up there. And that was one of them for sure. Now, here is Tyler Soderstroke. And that squirts through. So, a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Oh, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Here’s Miguel and Duhar. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. ball. That’s a little bit low. There’s a swing and a drive and that should be extra bases coming home. He scores and the A’s tie it up. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. Next to hit, Maxy. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Zero balls. One strike. Rudder at second. Two down here in the top of the second. And ball one down ball up and in. Two and one. Two and one. Swing and a miss as he was out front. Two balls, two strikes. spoils that one and it remains two and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. He swings and hits a fly ball center field and that’ll fall for a base hit. The throw in, it’s offline. The run comes in. It’s 2-1. Well done. Drives in the run. So impressive that he didn’t get tied up or jammed on that pitch inside. Instead, good quick hands allowed him to get the barrel to it. Just shoot it up the middle of the field for that knock. Two outs, runner at first. Luis Rias up next for the A’s. Fast ball is outside. Highest ball to first and he breaks for second. To second and he’s out. That’s the third out. But two runs for him and they jump ahead. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the A’s two and the Astros one. Back here at Dykin Park. Bottom half of inning number two. Here’s Mauricio Dubong. That one at the knees for a strike. Most hitters are looking for a first pitch fast ball. You’re not really timed up for a change up. So if it’s well located by the pitcher, he can get strike one. Late on that fast ball. I think he was sitting off speed there. And a swing and a miss. Now one away. Stood absolutely no chance on that slider right there. And I don’t mean to laugh, but that’s a tough one. I mean, pretty much a perfect strikeout pitch. I mean, it looks like a fast ball middle in kind of has cutter action and it just bunches you up to whereas you can’t get your hands through and the barrel to it. And not much you can do unless you recognize the spin early and you spit on it. And now Chaz McCormick. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. misses the zone for a ball. That was the sweeper. McCormack checks his swing. Now it appeal to first. And no swing, says Joe McDonald. And that just misses. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Strike three and that’s two in a row. That was a really nice pitch call for that putaway slider right there. You look at the sequence in that at bat and he hadn’t thrown it yet. So, just makes it really tough to recognize and fight off with two strikes. I’m sure it looked like a fast ball all the way until it wasn’t. And now the rookie second baseman, Bryce Matthews. First pitch just misses. 10 out. Bottom of the zone and a called strike. The 1-1 is fouled off. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Butler on the move to the alley and makes the play and that’s out number three. On to the third inning. Here’s Luis Aras. How about this one, Boo? In 2023, Aras hit grand slams for Boston in back-to- back plate appearances. They happened on different days, but he still became the first Red Sox player to do it since Jimmy Fox in 1940. Next offering is fouled back. Not close with that one. And a count one and two. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. Don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. Straighten him up a little bit. Two and two. off the plate inside. Full count. Three and two. Got it. That K is his third of the game. Well, definitely a borderline pitch right there. And he didn’t look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout. You know, those are tough ones to let go as a hitter, but with a human umpire calling balls and strikes, it’s always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes. Now, here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. So up next, Jacob Wilson struck out looking his first time. Closed but called a ball. Ball one. One ball. No strikes. Butler at first. One gone. Fast for a strike. One and one. Missed with a change up and the count two and one. He had a foul ball. The pitch and down on strikes and he’s notched four strikeouts now. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. Fly to left his first time. Ball one low right through there for a strike. And that’s downed away. Just off the inside edge. Brent Rooker in the on deck circle for the A’s. Two outs. Fouled off left side. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. 3-2 now. Popped up. Foul territory behind the play. Keratini pulls that one down. And that is that. The A’s strand one as they’re unable to add to their 2-1 lead set for the bottom of the third. Now it’s the shortstop. Zack Short. Inside ball. Pretty good pitch to take a pass at in a 10 count. Just not able to square it up. That just misses. Two balls, two strikes. The count. That’s inside. We got a full count in the air out towards right center. One down number 11. So the lineup flips over Cam Smith up next for the Astros. First time up he let off the bottom of the first with a double and then scored. That’s inside. And that’s ball one. And that is out of play. One down. Base is empty. Swinging a foul straight back. The one two. That’s in ball. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. and a foul ball. Chases the fast ball up the ladder. Struck him out. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone. But that’s one of the hardest things that when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch. When a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity, ripped to short over to first and that is the inning. Astros go down one two three and they trail it here two to one. Out of the fourth now it’s the DH Brent Rooker taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. And there’s the strike. You know these athletics doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. They’re doing a good job of working the pitch count. And they’ve been able to push a couple of runs across to score as well. That one ran inside. Almost got him. Got him. Now five strikeouts for him on the M. That slider wasn’t even close to the strike zone and he got him to chase. That’s just a bad approach right there. Either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn’t resist the temptation. But man, really expanded right there and didn’t have a chance of making contact with that pitch. Langelers batting for the second time and that’s strike one. Ball one there. Still relatively early, but with a pair of runs already on the board, the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game. That one almost got him. One down, base is empty. Got him looking. And that’s sixks for him in this one. Tunnled that pitch. thought it was going to be a slider breaking in off the plate, but it hugged the corner and at that point when he recognized it, it was just too late. Tyler Soderstrom up next for the A’s. First offering misses badly for ball one. And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. That fast ball, even though it’s up, that’s the velocity you want to go after. Low 90s a lot better than trying to hit the high 90s. Pitch misses. It’s two and two. And that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out. No runs, no hits, no errors. To the bottom of inning number four now. It’s the A’s two and the Astros won. And we’re back. John Chami and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Victor Keratini fouled off. He was late. Well, these Astros showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. Next one in the dirt. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. And a one-two again. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. So, here’s the Astros cleanup hitter, Christian Walker. That one fouled off. He’s a bad ball hitter, so even if you get him to chase pitches outside the zone, he still might beat you. Not an easy out by any means. A’s leading by a run. ripped on the ground to second already two gone here in the home fourth. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. Here’s Taylor Trmell fly to center his first time. He’s 0 for one. swings through that one for strike one. That pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge. Just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track outside low and it’s a ball to strike inside. Just missed. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. In the air, left field, down the line, and that’s a fair ball. And now the tying run is into scoring position. So, runner at second, two down. Here’s the third baseman, Mauricio Dubon. Late swing, fouled off. man at second. Tap foul at the plate. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. That one just misses. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the go inside. Really think the outer half is open. Gets a piece and stays alive. One two now. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another the one two hard liner and that’s a base hit runner around third. He scores and the Astros tie it up. It’s an RBI single. It’s 22. A perfect example right there. That plate discipline. It pays off. The deeper he gets into account, the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle. Two outs, runner on first. Now at the plate, Chaz McCormick and that’s off the inside edge. One and0. Dubong leads off first with two down to the inning. That just misses and that’s ball two. He looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. Two outs. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. Yeah, that’s fouled off. strikes him out for the second time today. So, one run in the inning on this base hit and we’re deadlocked now at two a piece. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show and welcome back to the ballpark. All set for the start of the inning. Now it’s going to be Miguel Anduhar Chris baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out the lefty the one that one ripped but foul. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, a runner aboard to start the inning. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. Go ahead. Run on base. Now the third baseman Maxy singled and drove in a run his first time through. Fast ball for a strike. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Lead runner holds up. They’re at first and second with nobody out. Oh, just a nice job coming through in a pretty high leverage spot right there. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it. Man, sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. First and second, no outs. Next up for the A’s, Luis Rias. He’s 0 for one. And that one is downstairs. And that is ball one. One and0. Fought off. Foul. High-fly ball down the left field line. That one is back. Gone. It finds the Crawford boxes. A home run. He circles the bases. It’s 52. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Astros bullpen. Colton Gordon departs and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. They turn things over to the southpaw from Ber Valdez. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season. So, this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Now, here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. And that drops in for a strike. Butler goes 6′ 3 in 24 years old and he was a sixthround draft pick back in 2018. Headed towards the corner and a foul ball. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit. Number five. So, a man aboard, Jacob Wilson. Up next for the A’s. 10 in the dirt. Blocked. had a breaking ball misses outside. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter’s count at 2 and 0. Next pitch is downstairs. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Hunter Brown, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. Or getting loose as well. 3 down. 3-1. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Good boy. That was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. And ball four, two aboard. Base knock. And now a free pass. This has the makings of a big inning if they can get a couple more quality at bats. And a dangerous hitter coming to the plate. Kurts now at the plate. Go for two in this one. And delivers outside. started to swing, held up. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Next offering is fouled back. swings through that one for strike two right there. Just pulled a stray. Liner saved it first. Go behind the runner. They got him doubled off. So now it’s the fourhole hitter Brent Rooker and a big swing and a miss. Oh, strike one is so critical and in a bat like this with a real threat at the plate looking to do damage. Foul ball. Two outs off the mark there. Going to count one and two. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Wilson off of first with two away two in the dirt. Swinging a miss that one in the dirt. Keratini up with it onto first in time. So the drop third strike doesn’t hurt him and that’s that three-run shot for the A’s. It’s 52. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here in Houston, we head to the bottom of the fifth. Here’s the second baseman, Bryce Matthews. Lopez back to work. Swinging and a miss as he was late that time. Activity in the bullpen. JP Sears appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Nukem warming up as well. Swing and a miss. And it’s 0 and two. Quickly in an 02 count, you’ve got to figure out a way to shorten your path to the baseball. Put it in place somewhere, then you got a chance. Swings through that and it’s a strikeout. Picks up strikeout number seven. Just blown away in that at bat. Three fast balls, all strikes. He wasn’t even able to foul one off. There’s not much you can take away from an at bat like that as a hitter other than maybe there’s something wrong with your eyes. He’s got to have better timing on the fast ball next time. Now it’s Zack Short flyed to right his first time. That one in there across the letters. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. One down, base is empty. There’s a high chopper. Muny handles, throws to first. Old man for the fifth inning moving along. Two quick outs. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Smith in the box now as he leaves that one up high. Hit in the air left field and that is that back here in Houston. All set for the top of the sixth. And now Shay Langalers. That one called the strike 0 and one. Probably the best one we have seen. Throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. hammers that one deep left field and forget it. A laser to left. Home run number 15 on the year. And they tack one on the board. It’s 62. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the booth. A breaking ball on the inside part of the plate requires a hitter to stay really square with his mechanics. If you fly open with the front shoulder, there’s no way you keep that ball fair. An outstanding job mechanically. He deserves that home run. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstrom. And first off is fouled off. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. And we’re the top half of the sixth. And that misses one ball, one strike. Out to Short. Short on the run. sends it over to first and very nicely done for the out. Oh, nice job by the shortstop to field that on the back hand and gather himself, get his feet underneath him. He had a long throw, but he knew he had plenty of time to take that extra step, secure the grip and finish the throw. And now the right fielder Miguel Anduhar out to short sends it across the first and there’s two away. Two outs. Base is empty. Maxy up next for the A’s. That one missed. One and0. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit and that keeps the inning alive. So digging in, Luis Urias certainly a factor in this one thanks to his threerun blast back in the fifth. Well, definitely one of the most impactful swings of the game. A big reason why they’re working with the lead and looking to add to it right here. B step off throw to first. Muny dives back in safely. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. And another ball. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Muny the runner at first with two gone. And it’s fouled away. Still two and two after the foul ball. just misses the mark outside the zone. Small count. This one in the air. Walker. And that is that. A solo homer adds to the A’s lead. Now a 62 ball game. You’re dialed into the show. Back now for the bottom of the sixth. And there’s a new pitcher on the mound, JP Sears. He’s averaging more than one hit allowed per inning pitch this season. And that’s not where you want to be at all. So we’ll see how he does here. Here’s the former MVP, Jose Altuve. Altuve officially joined the 2000 hit club in 2023 with every career hit as a Houston Astro. Third player in club history with 2,000 hits and 200 home runs. Jeff Bagwell, Craig Bigio, those are the two others. And that’s some great company. Boob. The 10 That one drifts inside. Next one misses and that’s ball three. So definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpin mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead in the count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. in the air fairly deep to right field. On Duhar sizes this one up. He makes the grab. One away. And next to hit for Houston, Victor Keratini, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. He was late there. Strike one. Just a bit tardy there. Not sure if he had a hard time picking it up out of the hand or if he was sitting off speed. Off the mark there. One and one on the ground. And that’s just foul. cut out and miss. Struck him out. Two gone. Two down. Base is empty. Christian Walker getting ready to hit. Has grounded out a couple of times. Swinging a foul straight back. Two down, nobody on here in the bottom of the six. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Houston. And he chases that one. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Astros are down quietly. They still trail it here. It’s six-2. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Brian King. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. So, digging in, Lawrence Butler. Lawrence Butler. There’s the strike. Well, sometimes as left-handed hitter, you know, you’re going to see at least one or two breaking balls in the at bat, so why not go up there ready to hit that first one? Just couldn’t barrel that one up. Got him looking. Strike three called and a slider at the knees. Jacob Wilson will hit next. A walk and a pair of strikeouts. The mo for him is contact. A guy who’s going to deliver average. Not a ton of power. He’s looking to hit a line drive somewhere. Well, that’s why it’s a team. And when you look at a lineup, he’s a great two-hole hitter or a guy that you could put at the bottom to help turn that lineup over to have some momentum for your top hitters coming up to the plate. Pitch misses there. And one and one. Soft contact in the air. Takes it in for the out. And the batter now, Nick Curts. 0 for three in this one. There’s the strike. Pitch misses there and the count is one and one. Out towards left center. McCormack sizing this one up. He’s got it. And that is out number three. And we’re back. Bottom of the seventh. And stepping in for the Astros, Taylor Treml. The Stros in striking distance, but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laid-off man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. That misses. Ball one. That’s a ball. Tried the sweeper. Next offering is fouled back. That’s out to center field. Brings it in. And there’s one away. Batt Mauricio Dubong the next to hit. Ball one, no strikes. One ball, no strikes. That clips the corner. This is empty. One away. You’re in the bottom of the seventh. Swanging a highf fly ball in the air left field. Sodrom going back onto the track and he makes the catch. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. McCormick up to the plate for the third time as he looks at one down low. He’s one of those Dave Mccardi, Mark Carion, Ricky Henderson types. Throw left, bat right. You make a note of those guys cuz it’s just different. It’s like, man, you’re left-handed, but you hit right-handed. Next offering is in for a strike. So far, all we’ve seen in this at bat are fast balls. Look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count. Astros. Here’s a highf fly ball out to center. Butler on his way over, pulls it down and he makes the catch. And that’s the inning. Pitching change here. Hunter Brown. He pitched yesterday and we’ll see him once again. Brent Rooker digs in now. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. Brown a 6’2 righty 220 lbs and he was a fifth round pick back in 2019. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see well that you can handle, but you also have to keep the Oh, now this is blasted way back there. On its way. Gone. That’ll fire up the dugout. His 22nd homer of the year. And they add a run. It’s 72. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. When a guy’s got a real hard fast ball, you can’t overswing. All you’ve got to do is get the bat head to the spot. If you do, he supplies the power and you’ll get to jog around the bases like he did right there. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers. And the first pitch misses for ball one. and another ball. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. And we’re in the top of the eighth. A little out front there as he swings through it. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. That’s off the inside corner. Counts full. Three and two. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. swing and a line drive and a base hit up the middle. So he battled through a long at bat and earned himself a hit. Tyler Soderstroke up next for the A’s. One for three. First pitch misses. One and0. Swang and a miss. There’s the change up. Sometimes being lucky is a swing and miss. If he makes contact with that pitch, probably hits into a double play. Two. This one in the dirt. The 2-1. That one pushed to the left and fouled. And there’s a rocket into the outfield. Throw cut off to second. Not in time. He’s got a double. Love how he let that ball travel. Trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. Miguel Anduhar up next for the A’s. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. You’ll one comes up empty. That’s strike two. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield. Got him looking. And that is a big first out. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. He got three straight fast balls looking in the O2 count just to pour it back. And now it’s going to be Max Muny. Three for three with three singles. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Liner base hit. One run across. Another comes in to score and it’s 92. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Hunter Brown out of the game. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. Astros go to the pen. And here comes Caleb Ort. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for the stats obviously regardless of the score. Runner around at first with one gone. Luis Rias up next for the A’s. Oh, squirts away a little bit. 10. Muny the base runner at first with one out and that one fouled off. He swings and fouls one off. Foul ball still a one and two count. Fights it off. He’ll see another. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. That’s down and in. Still only one out here in the inning. And now it’s filled up. Grounder might be two. Off-balance feed. There’s one on the first double play and that’s the inner. So they get three runs on four hits. One was the solo homer. Last half of the eighth. Coming up, it’s the A’s nine and the Astros two. This game’s a bit of a blowout. Sing, let’s talk about something random. Let’s do it. Sing, you grew up in the Bay Area. Did you have a favorite player as a kid? Yeah, I love the A’s lineup. I mean, guys like Ricky Henderson, Dave Kingman, Terry Steinback. Um, I mean, you just go on and on. Tony Armis, uh, just some tremendous rosters back then. And I loved as a kid getting on the BART train, the Bay Area Rapid Transit, pulling up right there to the stadium and then going in and watching the game. The O2 Swang and a highf fly ball well struck left field. Sodestrom ranging back up against the wall and brings it in. Astros. Zack Short now at the plate. You also had the pleasure of going over and hitting and taking batting practice at a big leaguer’s house. Who was that? Yeah, Willie McGee. one of the greatest of all time in my opinion. Not in the hallway in your neighborhood. Yeah. His folks live right down the street from me. And that’s where his batting cage was. I used to look out of my backyard down the hill and just dream of one day maybe being able to go over and hit with them. And that dream became a reality when I was drafted by the San Francisco Giants. And a foul ball. with a short stop. Takes the ball. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And it’s two and two. Caught a break right there. Pretty good pitch on the outside corner. Hit hard on the ground to short. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Fortunately, they’ve got a big lead on the scoreboard, so that error shouldn’t hurt too much. But you have to be careful about losing concentration in a game like this. Can be an easy trap to fall into. Cam Smith up next for the Astros. And that one off the outside edge. Man at first. One away. That one finds the zone and it’s one and one. Ground ball right side. Could be two. There’s one double play and that’ll do it for the inning. This one pretty well decided at this point. Through eight full. It’s the A’s nine and the Astros two. back here at Dyken Park. Here’s the center fielder, Lawrence Butler. That’s in there and it’s 0 and one. Activity in the Houston bullpen. Ryan Gusto up and loosening in the pen. Next offering is fouled back and down on strikes he goes. And a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Gosh, here it is. Hit it. Three pitch strike out. All fast balls. Man, he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch right now. Wilson now at the plate as he swings through strike one. There might be time to choke up a little bit, get that front foot down early, maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul on the outside corner. Got him looking. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this war. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. Two outs, space is empty. And here’s the first baseman, Nick Curts. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And that’s ball one. And that one sliced fouled. Two down, nobody on here in the top of the ninth. inside corner. That’s called a strike. That’s a real nice cutter right there. I mean, this guy can struggle with the inside pitch at times. So, I’d say that’s pretty effective if you can. Swings through him for the K and he strikes out the side in the ninth. And one, two, three go the A’s. But they still lead it 9-2. Now on the bump, Elvis Alvarado. Well, walks have certainly been an issue for him this season, so we’ll see what kind of command he has. And now Jose Alt. Yeah, there’s the ball. No strikes and it stays fair. Takes the turn. He’s digging for second. To second. Pulls him off the bag. ripped that one down the line and kept it fair. And even when you hit it that far out front, you still have to keep your hands tight to your body so you don’t hook around that baseball and put it in foul territory. And that right there was perfect. Digging in, Victor Keratini. Foul ball there. Altuve at second with nobody out. That misses and the count even one and one. Right through there for a strike. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. Christian Walker up next for the Astros. 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. Lifted in the air right center field. And Duhar on the move to the gap, makes the grab. Runner tags at second and he’s up to third safely with two gone. Astros down to their last out. Taylor Trmell up next for the Astros. First pitch. Not close. Two outs and a runner at third. They’re in the last half of inning number nine. That one misses and now two and 0. Two and0. That one fouled off on the ground right side. That’s a base hit from Scores. They’re still chasing it as he rounds second and he’ll pull into third with an RBI triple. His second knock of the night. Here’s the third baseman, Mauricio Dubong. There’s the strike. That’s down and in. A slider missed. Two outs with a runner at third. Hit to right and that should do it. And that’ll do it. The A’s take this one in a blowout. Sometimes road trips can be tough. You’re away from your family, but when you can win, silence that opposing crowd, it makes things just a little bit better. Makes the road trip just a little bit shorter. 93 your final here in this one. The A’s are victorious for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
