I’m really torn on trading Caissie. If Tucker leaves, the Cubs could really use him next year but if they get a top SP that leads to a deep playoff run, it’s probably worth it.
Interesting that there is no mention of Suarez
Interesting additions to the mix. As expected, the Cubs are calling everyone to see who is available.
I’m still betting it’ll be Mitch Keller, Griffin Jax, and Willi Castro. (The Cubs would retain Caissie). In that scenario, it would no longer be shocking to see them also pick up a #5 type starting pitcher (rental) as depth for the final stretch.
However, in the last couple days I’ve been leaning more towards the idea that the Cubs can talk the Twins into parting with Joe Ryan for an overpay. Net Joe Ryan and Willi Castro from Minnesota, and then add a solid reliever, such as Jake Bird, Pete Fairbanks, or David Bednar. (The Cubs would still retain Caissie).
I would love MacKenzie Gore, but I just don’t think the Nats are going to trade him.
