MLB LIVE🔴 Tampa Bay Rays vs Cincinnati Reds – Jul 27, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

joined by my partner Chris Singleton. I’m John Shambi. The first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner, it’s go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Tampa Bay Rays going up against the Cincinnati Reds. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. All right, just about set to go. And on the hill in this one, Lion Richardson. Chris, what should we keep an eye on here with him? Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. I mean, it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point. Maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Number 14, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one, the one. That’s a ball. Two and0. Right through there for a strike. And that’s down and away. Fast ball in for a strike and it’s a full count. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Popped in the air. Left field. Lux makes the grab. One away. All right, let’s take a look at the Rays lineup. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus. Junior Camro and Boo. He’s their team leader in home runs. So, you know, the pitchers on that other side, man, they took a lot of time preparing for him in that pregame meeting. You know, he’s got a lot of pop and it’s real pop. It’s not fluky at all. He can absolutely change the outlook of a game very quickly. So, watch out when he steps in. And first off is fouled off. Now, this is in the air down the line. Lux trying to get there. Calls it in. And there’s two away third. And now the first base, Jonathan. Chris, it’s been a good year for him, having already set a new careerhigh for RBI’s in a season. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. Oh, this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat if he’s not. Oh, that’s a strike out. And that’ll do it for the unit. Ray’s held in check here. Now it’ll be the ref’s turn. No score. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here with my pal Singi. And starting in this one, Drew Rasmusen. Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, added subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. TJ Fredo, the lead off batter, as he looks at ball one. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Ball. That one fouled off. Two and two. Cincinnati just missed. Really good take especially with two strikes. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And a pinch. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Three and two. Payoff pitch. That one misses. So a leadoff walk. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing. Very gritty. Matt Mlan. Matt Mlan the next to hit for the Reds right through there for a strike. Swing and a tapper that rolls foul. in the dirt. Blocked. Nobody out. Runner of first. Next offering popped in the air. Right field. puts it away for the out. Batting third, shortstop, Ellie D. Here’s the lineup for the Reds. It features one of the sports true superstars, Ellie Dea Cruz. And Boo, we’re talking about a guy who has great wheels and then puts them to good use. He’s the team leader in stolen bases and runs scored. Man, using his speed to just get into scoring position and then just flying home when the guys behind him put the ball in play. I absolutely love watching him do it because he causes havoc on the base paths and that one fouled off. You know, one of the most memorable innings ever for Ellie happened in July 2023. In one inning, De La Cruz hit a two out single to take the lead and then proceeded to do something that a Red’s player hasn’t done in more. Walls feed to second. That’s one. Not in time at first. It’s a fieldielder’s choice. And now it’s Austin Hayden. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. Rasmusen checks on first and he’s back in on a dive. And that one fouled off. Well, if he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch off the mark there. And that is ball one. Swing a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. swings and misses. Third out and that ends the frame. Reds leave one. We played an inning. No score. Back here at Great American Ballpark. Here’s the third base, Junior Camo. Let’s go Richardson back to work. Close but called the ball. And that’s ball one. Well, I I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit swing a miss and a count. One and two. He has a tendency to chase out of his own. And that slider that’s down, that’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss. Fights it off. He’ll see another That one missed. Two two outside corner. Got him looking now up for Tampa Bay. Josh Low and first offering is fouled off. Richardson, a righty that throws with power. He features a fourseam fast ball, a change up, a slider, and he works in a sinker. Fast ball for a strike. Oh, and two now. Looks like a really good fast ball today. You can hear that catcher mitt popping. Looking forward to hearing a lot of that one in this one. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Off to a strong start, Singy, as he’s punched out three of the first five he’s faced. Well, he’s definitely minimizing contact. He can get the swing and miss when he needs it, but he’ll also keep the defense fresh behind him, allowing some balls in play as well. Grow ball right side. He takes it on his own and it’s a one, two, three inning. Nothing doing it for Tampa. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Bottom of the second. Now the left fielder with Gavin Lux. Leftielder Gavin Lux check swing and he went. That’s strike one. Oh and one and he pumps it a strike. Time to check on our umpires. Earl Hendrickx calling balls and strikes. Yeah, well-liked umpire Boo. Pretty consistent with his zone. So, if you’re familiar with him and how he works, you won’t get too surprised by anything. Sometimes they’ll give a little bit off the corner, but nothing too crazy at all. In the air, right side of the infield, settles under this one and in foul ground, he pulls it down. What? What about an umpire’s height? How much of a role does that play in your experience and what the strike zone is like? Yeah, I think it pushes the strike zone up a little bit, which you know, as a former hitter, you like that. You wanted the ball up. You didn’t want to have to deal with stuff down in the zone consistently. Spencer Steer now the box comes up empty with a swing there. And that’s outside. As the game has moved along, we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires. I’ve been in clubhouses where they have pictures of all four umpires, nicknames, hometowns, and as well hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the umpire a little bit. I think that’s great. Swag and a miss. The velocity blasted it right past him. That’s you see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things. And when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. And here is Tyler Stevenson. There’s the strike. It’s 0 and one. That misses the zone and the count is one and one. No score here in the second. The 1-1 is fouled off. way high. Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Low makes the play and it’s out number three. We’ll move to the third with no score. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top half of the third inning. Here’s the catcher, Matt Thice. And that’s through there for a strike. One. That’s excellent location on a fast ball right there early in this game. If he can do that all game, it should be a good outing for him. swings and misses. Struck him out. Take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting him away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. So next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Jose Caviierro and that’s downstairs and it’s one and0. Right through there for a strike. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. Two and one. Ground ball right side. He steps out of the bag. Two up, two down. Betting ninth, shortstop, Taylor Walls. So, two down now. And here is Taylor Walls. He’s going to finish with a new careerhigh in stolen bases, Chris. First pitch misses. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. So a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Now batting centerfield. Here’s the Rays lead off hitter. Throw to first. Wall dives back in safely. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. One ball, no strikes. that one the other way and makes the play and that’s out number three. One left for Tampa and we’re still knotted at zero. Back here in Cincinnati set for the bottom of the third in now for the Reds. Jake Freley. Eggley that catches the zone for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. That one finds the zone and the count is 0 and two. cut on and lifted in the air. Mangum sizes this one up. He’s got it. And there’s one down. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Noel V Marte stands in now and watches strike one. Ball one low. All right. The 1-1 is fouled off. swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So the one out hit turns the lineup over. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the attack after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. TJ Fredo the next to hit for the Reds. Runner on the goal. Pitch in for a strike. Throw to second and he’s safe. Well, we all know this team is struggling right now and sometimes you just got to do something different to generate some offense. A little more aggressive right there to put the pressure on the opponent. We’ll see if it pays off on the scoreboard for this team. fast for a strike. Well, we call that keyholeing. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good, if he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And that is downstairs and the count one and two. One ball, two strikes. Stays alive. One out and a runner at second here in the last half of the third. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and he’s registered threeks in this one. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time little anxious. So the go-ahehead run in scoring position next for Cincinnati. Matt Mlan flyed to right his first time. This one in the air center field and that is that. So one left for Cincinnati and we are still scoreless. Out of the fourth to the plate now for the Rays is the DH Yandi Diaz. fouled off down the right side. Well, these Rays as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to. That just misses. It’s a ball in two strikes. One, two, and delivers outside. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. Hit in the air center field. Fredel sizing this one up. Rings it in. And there’s one away. Now batting first baseman Jonathan Aranda. Jonathan Aranda next to hit for the Rays. Struck out on just three pitches last time. And that clips the inside corner. He’s pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success but you can never predict baseball. This one in the air right field. Nice grab on the road and there’s two down. Well, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Keanero stands in with two away as he takes a ball. And another ball. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. The next pitch misses and it’s three and0. A rare three ball count here. He’s been throwing strikes all day. Got to be ready to hit if you’re in the box. The right-hander gives up the two out walk. You know, I think he’s okay with that outcome. It It wasn’t an intentional walk, but he wasn’t exactly trying to attack the zone either. Go ahead run on base. Josh Low next to hit for the Rays. His first at bat was a strike out. Swing and a miss. Camo leads off first with two down to the inning. And that one is inside. That missed by a lot. And it’s two and one. Fast ball for a strike at 95. Backto back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Two outs. and down on strikes now. Five strikeouts for him on the mound. So, it’s no runs, no base hits, no errors, and one left. On now to the bottom of the fourth, no score. Bottom of the inning, leading off Ellie De Cruz. short stop. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. just really impressive because there are certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Well, pitchers have become so much better at commanding that high fast. It used to be that a lot of pitchers didn’t like to throw it because it throw off their release point and their mechanics and they’re aimed at keeping everything at the knees get ground balls. But because hitters get a swing path that can lift balls at the knees up in the air and over the fence, this pitch has come back into play and they are doing some special things with it. Just pull off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. He swings and fouls one off. No, that missed. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Two. That one misses and now three and one. That one is absolutely belted. And that’s got extra bases written all over it. And that’s a two out double. But when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. And now Spencer Steer struck out swinging his first time in there for strike one. Two outs and one in scoring position. crushed left center field. This one’s deep. Forget it. He’ll circle the bases. It’s two nothing. Listen to these fans. This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. Just an excellent swing all the way around and it had that sound coming off the bat that gets everyone’s attention. Got a pitch to drive short to the baseball, squared it up and the backspin carried it out of here. And ready to hit now for Cincinnati. Tyler Stevenson. He’s 0 for one. That one catches the zone. 0 and one. 01. Two down to that one misses now. One and two. Got him swinging. But two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. It’s now a two nothing ball game. You’re dialed into the show. Ready now for the fifth inning. And the batter now Mangum Richardson back to work. Bunts attempt but that goes foul. Well, these Rays, from what we’ve seen, I think it’s fair to wonder if they’ve been too patient at the plate. They found themselves behind in the count quite a bit. They’re trying to be patient, but it’s mostly resulting in outs, not base runners. And you could argue it’s making things more difficult at the plate. Dominant performance for him today, Boo. Just two hits allowed so far. No runs across either. And he’s had an answer for just about every hitter he’s faced. So, I don’t think this hit is going to knock him off his stride too much. Matt th comes up to hit here. He was a strikeout victim his first time on the ground. Could be two to second. There’s one on the first double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. And now Jos Caviierro grounded out his first time off. Fast for a strike. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot in the air right side and that lands in no man’s land. A foul ball. Look at Sharp just a strike away from five shut out innings. And now one and two. His understanding of the strike zone very impressive. That was a very close O2 fastball. I just don’t know how you take that. Outside low now two and two. Swang and a miss at 96. Struck him out and it’s a three up, three down in. Ray’s held in check here. They’re still down. It’s two zip. Back here at Great American Ballpark, we head to the bottom of the fifth. And now the designated hitter for the Reds, Jake Freillley. That one ripped. That’s back there. Forget it. It’s his sixth home run of the season and they tack one on the board. It’s 3 nothing. Already playing with the lead and now they’re celebrating a home run. They’re having a great time out there. Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. Noel V Marte the next to hit for the Reds. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. Oh, you just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. Next offering is fouled back on the ground to the left and it goes just foul. and Earl Hendris punches him out. That’s a strike out. And now the center fielder TJ Fredle strike out and a walk. TJ Fredle. Not even close there. And that’s ball one. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Fast ball is outside. And he gets that fast ball by him upstairs. Wow. Good luck catching up to that one. Next offering is downstairs. Full count. That one ripped left field. That’s back there. And it hits the fence and into second with one away. That’s a double. Well, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. And the Rays manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Drew Rasmusa is done and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for now on the mound for the Rays. Ryan Pepio still pretty early in the ball game. So this bullpen has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him. One out, runner at second. Matt Mlan the next to hit for the Reds. And the first pitch misses for ball one. One out and a runner at second. Last half of inning number five in the air left field. Mango on the move. He’s there. He’s got it. Two away. Good pitch. He just kind of had him out in front on that pitch away and wasn’t able to stay closed. Ellie de la Cruz. So digging in, Ellie Dea Cruz. You talk about elite defensive players, especially in the middle of the diamond, and this guy is at the top of the list. And you played behind guys and they love having your speed out there defensively. One of the things that we talk about is how much pitchers enjoy having those elite defenders behind them. That clips the zone and it’s 0 and one. Boo. The one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn’t either. Hittingwise, you can struggle. You can lose your mechanics, but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you’re talented in that way. And this is what this guy does. Next offering is down low now. One and two. When you look at the ability to save runs defensively, but then also put runs up on the scoreboard, that’s the kind of player that every championship team needs to have. Ruer at second, two down. In the air, left field down the line and that’ll fall for a base hit. Now a long throw home, safe at the plate, and the run scores all the way from second and it’s 4 nothing. So, a man aboard and next will be the cleanup hitter, Austin Hayes. 0 for two in this one. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. Throw in holds the lead runner at second. Two on now with two away. Oh, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. There was nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield. That was ripped. caught out in front and didn’t get under it like he would have liked, but definitely put a good swing on it. And now it’s Gavin Lux. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Two on, two outs. And there’s a foul ball. 0 and two now. This one popped up right side. Aranda under this one squeezes it and that’s the third out. They put two on the board. Four hits. No errors, but two are left stranded. Five innings complete. It’s the Reds four. The Rays nothing. And we’re back. Here’s the short stop at the plate. Taylor Wall. Fast for a strike. Upstairs. One and one. and he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes now. Batting the lineup flips over. Here’s the center fielder. He’s controlling things out there on the mound. Not messing around at all. He’s been in attack mode since the very start. One down, base is empty. Oh, I think I mean, if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. slings to first. Two quick outs to open the top of the six. Well, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball. Good execution. Two down, base is empty. Yandi Diaz now swing and a ball lifted left field and that is that. So, another good inning for him on the mound. Six shutout innings now. It’s the Reds four, the Rays nothing. Bottom of the sixth inning in now for the Reds. Spencer Steer that catches the top part of the zone. Strike one. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Garrick Clevenger preparing to come on if needed. Boil the right-hander loosening up as well. Next pitch is outside now. Fly ball to right center. On his way over. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. One down. Now batting the catcher, Tyler Stevenson. Tyler Stevenson digs in now. First pitch misses. One ball, no strikes. Fought off foul. One out. Base is empty. And he chases a high fast ball there. One and two is the count. Two and two. That one just misses. And that’s ball three. fouled off and they’ll do it again. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom of the sixth. Three and two now and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. And a pop off right side. Foul territory. Dice makes the grab for the second half. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Two outs. Base is empty. Now a chance for Jake Freilley. He’s already homered here in this one. swing and that ball smashed on a line. Dives for it. Got it. Makes the play. One of the most fun and exciting things you can do as an outfielder. You lay out, you make a diving catch, and you end the inning. That gets the team fired up in the dugout. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the top of the seventh and here’s the first baseman, Jonathan Aranda. Swing and a highf fly ball in the air left field and makes the grab. One up, one down. Timing issues can snowball quickly and that’s what we’re witnessing here. This lineup’s inability to lock on to the pitcher delivery is causing a few awkward swings. And now Junior Camero. He is struck out and he is walked late with the swing there. It’s just been an impressive outing so far. Continues to pound the zone pitch after pitch and he’s been able to stay down. That’s what’s been key. Just missed. The Cincinnati bullpen has some movement. Tony Santion getting ready to go. Martinez also throwing. Here we go, Cincinnat. Battling here as he fouls it away. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Toughest pitch to hit. Fast ball on the outer black. Man, sometimes you just got to tip your Josh Low next to hit for the Rays. low having a lot more success on the road this season. That one fouled off. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. And now it’s even up. And there’s a ball. Two balls, one strike. This one popped up. Foul ground. First base side. Has room and he makes the catch. Rays go in order. One, two, three. They trail it here. Four nothing. back here in Cincinnati. And now the right fielder, Noel V Marte. Noelv Marte, you can do it. And the first pitch misses for ball one. That one missed. Miss. That’s the ball. Two outside. Three and O. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hit didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. So, a man at first. Now here’s the Red’s leadoff man. TJ Fredel drove it off the wall last time. Just missed out on a home run. Misses again. Five in a row. Marte gets his lead at first. Nobody out. In there for a strike at the bottom of the zone. Two in one in the dirt. Fouls one off. Two and two. Double play ball to second. Good feed. That’s one. Back to first. And that is a double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Mlan. Two down. Base is empty. Next for Cincinnati, Matt Mlan 0 for three with three flyyous. Swinging a miss at a slider. Wow. No fair right there. I mean that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just going to have to tip your cap on that pitch. Two outs. A change up missing and it’s two and one. Ellie Dea Cruz up next for the Reds and it’s fouled away. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. He’s done a great job getting the first two outs. Want to get this number two hitter get back in the dugout and face 345 next inning. And that’s a base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Now batting short stop. Ellie De Cruz the next to hit him for the Reds. He’s turned into one of the best short stops in the game and a popup right side foul territory. Aanda makes the play. That is the inning. Reds leave one. They’re in front four nothing. Now, welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Tony Santon and he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. And stepping in for the Rays. Jake Mangum one for two. There’s the strike. Santion goes 6 feet 3 in. He features a fourseam fast ball. A slider and he works in a change up. Line to left and foul ball. Cincinnati. Next pitch misses. Yeah, the count one and two. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. Got him looking. And that’s the first out. Matt ths the next to hit top of the zone and it’s called a strike. If you’re not ready for that pitch, you’re just going to swing and miss or pop it up. Waste the at bat. If you’re going to let it go, you better be ready to swing it. a little out front there as he swings through it. Activity in the bullpen for the Reds. Scott Barlo up and throwing for Terry Francona. Come on. And that one inside and it hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Now up for Tampa Bay. Jose Caviierro. Now this guy’s definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Swinging a foul out of play. One ball, one strike. Man at first, one away. And that one upstairs. That one fouled off. Two and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and the runner stays where he is. Up next for the matter will be the short stop. Taylor Walls. The shorts stop takes the ball. 10. You got this. And that is out of play. You got this. Two outs. Fast ball is outside. gets a piece and stays alive. You got this. And that’s a fair ball. They stopped the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. Now batting the center. Here’s the lead off hitter. 0 for three in this one. Cincinnati. line drive and that gets down for a base hit. Coming home the throw in. Now batting designated hitter Yandi. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Tony Santion done for the day and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now, so they turn to their closer, Emilio Pagan, and he’s been fantastic this year. really stingy in terms of allowing base runners. He’s just got great stuff that’s tough to square up. And here is Yandi Diaz. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Tying run at the plate. Swing and a miss. And the count is 0 and two. All season long. He’s racked up a number of saves. And sometimes the adrenaline doesn’t get high enough until there’s a runner or two on base. Just about gives his skipper a heart attack, but that’s where he functions best. The tying run at the plate. Lifted in the air right center field. Fredel sizes this one up. makes the grab and that’s the third out, but the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now 4-1. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Now pitching for now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Joe Bole. He’s certainly been one of their better relief pitchers this season. The numbers are really solid, so they feel great about handing the ball over to him. So, here’s the cleanup hitter, Austin Hayes. One for three. Austin Hayes. He slice down the right side. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Well, when you throw the same pitch back to back, that’s how you want to do it. Set him up in the strike zone, then extend a little bit from there and see if you can get him to chase. Nicely done with the slider right there. Lux with one down, takes a strike. Bullpen movement for the Rays. Garrick Clevener warming up for manager Kevin Cash. And that one almost hit him. Straighten him up a little bit. And that one is downstairs. And the count two and one. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Swing at a line drive. That’s a base hit into center field. Everything came together for him. That’s about as textbook as it gets. Got his stride and load out of the way early. He stayed inside that ball and squared it up out front. Man, that was like he was in the cage hitting off a tea. digging in. Spencer Steer strike on the inside corner. It’s 0 and one. Swing and a highfly ball out towards right field. Low makes the grab. Two down. Here’s the Reds catcher, Tyler Stevenson. Tyler Stevenson. Pitch misses. Ball one. And the slider just misses. Here’s a two- in there for a strike at the top of the zone. Pitch misses and now three balls and a strike. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. In for a strike. Now it’s three and two. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. Swings through that one. It’s a strikeout. So one left for Cincinnati, but they lead it four to one. Back here at Great American Ballpark. New inning getting started. And now the first baseman, Jonathan Aranda. Popped up. Mlan settles underneath it. Carous it. And there’s one away. Now that third baseman, Junior Camro, he’s two outs away. Junior Camero will hit next. A walk and a pair of strikeouts. And first offering is fouled off. That one at the knees for a strike. Pitching has been pretty dominant in this one, but you got to be careful not working with too big a lead. They could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful. And that one almost got him. The Rays trailing by three here in the top of the ninth. Next offering misses down and away. whacked out to center field. That’s well struck. That’s back. Pulls it in on the warning track, but he hammered that to straight away center field. It’s a deep part of the ballard. Tell you what, that wind is blowing straight in. Got to be a big man if you’re going to go through the wind of that part of the park. It just knocked that ball down. Low stands in here, takes ball one low, one ball, no strikes. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Two out space is empty. Yeah, that’s a little bit high. Two balls, one strike. Sends it to center and that’s going to do it. And he makes the catch. Ball game. And the Reds claim the win here behind some great pitching and defense. 4-1 the final here today. From Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami.
