✭ Dallas Cowboys training camp, 1st padded practice recap
And hey man, you know, I’m not gonna have too many more opportunities to get this here view. Brian brought us, you know, I’m only out here in Oxnard because Jerry Jones call it Ox Oxnard, not Oxnard. Only got like one more day out here, man. But you know, we gonna make the make the most of it here. Oxnard training camp. Brian Bris is down there on the courts. I’m up here at the resort and casino at Sam Manuel uh section up top here with the elevated view. Brian watches practice from up here sometimes, but this time he was on the field moving around and and Brian reminded me that uh Vach, I noticed you move around a bunch because I’m trying to get some information for these people. You heard me? Uh, one thing that I was doing, one thing that I felt like it was important that I run around and get was a Terrence Steel update. And um, you know, Brian Brian didn’t see a whole bunch of it there, but that’s what Vach is here for, to give Terrence Steel updates. So, the tweet came in three in three phases or whatnot, right? When I first saw him, I was like, “Hey, he’s out there stretching and his ankles are heavily taped, so that makes me feel like he’s good to go.” Helmet was on and everything. He was in the drills down there with the offensive line, taking place in the individual drills, and he was kind of thumping a little bit, reaching the backside three type stuff, doing the combo things and all that. I say, “Okay, Terrence Steel must be a little better than we thought.” And then when they went to go do team drills, Terrence Steel was out on the side just kind of conditioning and doing a little work right there. So those three, you know, those three phases put together to me. Brian brought us it says the ankle probably hurts him a little bit. He’s it’s something that he’s probably going to have to work through. Um he seems good to go. If it was a game today, maybe possibly they’ll work him out, but uh they are trying to keep him safe and uh that they don’t want to push it because it is practice and it doesn’t make any sense to not be safe. So, Hakee Adeny took most of the starting right tackle rest for the rest of the day. Brian, what did you see? Yeah, I’ll tell you what. I uh I I I really like what Adeny has been able to do. Uh I don’t feel like that they uh to me I was expecting this huge drop off. Sure. And it really hasn’t been. It hasn’t been to the point where it’s like so noticeable that like oh gez a denigy. It’s it’s not like a Chaz Green or anything like that. And I hate to throw Chaz Green and he’s catching a stray for me right there, but it hasn’t been that revolving uh that that turn style or anything like that or a welcome mat out there. He’s he’s been super competitive. They’ve run the ball to his side. Uh he’s held up well on some of the pass protection things he’s had to do. Uh, as we all know, Ezaraku has been giving people fits over there, but I think for the most part, for the couple of practices that he’s been able to to be the right tackle, I I would say uh high marks for what he’s been able to accomplish. You know, Brian, I said this on social medias early and I just want to make sure that I’m not, you know, doing too much because, you know, I get excited sometimes, Brian. Bro, I get excited. I get a little bit over my skis sometimes. But um I was thinking that the Cowboys offensive line depth situation is a pretty special situation because I think guys like Hakee Madenny, Rob Jones, and Brock Hoffman, I think they can go play for other teams and play a lot of games for other teams, but uh they’re just kind of depth guys for us. So if anything were to happen to Terence Steel or Book, I think we’re in good hands. You were saying Chaz Green earlier and you know the the whole Chaz Green situation can be hyperbolic sometimes. I think like Cam Irving, Cam Fleming is like a better idea of hey, it’s not gonna be Cam Irving bad or Cam Fleming bad. Like I think this is a pretty damn good starting if you need him to be right tackle Hakee if you need him to be Rob Jones too. So I think the Cowboys are fortunate to have them both. Yeah, I I you know, like I said, that the whole thing is with this offensive line with the the new coaching staff and all that and you know, Will Mcclelay and and and those guys on the pro side, I feel like they’ve done a pretty good job of going out and getting some veteran help. Uh that’s that’s, you know, at least through five practices has shown that it it’s got some value and some some teeth to it. Yeah. One more note about the offensive line, Brian, and we can kind of move along a little bit. I’ve been seeing this since I’ve been in camp. Uh, but pardon me, ladies and gentlemen, my fault. Uh, Austin Richards has been kind of lining up as the tight end position, the extra blocker, the six-man kind of look. And I didn’t want to just call him like extra offensive lineman out there cuz he’s actually taken taken part in the shifts in the motions, which is interesting when you watch Austin Bridges out there. He’s involved in that. Um, and they gave him a hefty load today. Brian Bro, this this leads me to believe that they’re kind of trusting Awesome a little bit. So, let me make this broad statement then then you can react to it. Uh, in the previous episodes, cuz y’all not allowed to miss shows. Please stop missing shows. In previous episodes, I was saying, “Okay, well, they got cited players.” So, I was thinking that Awesome Richards and Nate Thomas were working like just the left side as the backup guys and Hakee and uh Cornelius were working as the backup right sided guys. From Awesome Richards, what I saw today, Brian, is he played some right tackle. Then he went to go play some left tackle and then he went to go play the tight end character that shifts and goes to either side. So, they’re they got a lot of jobs for Austin Riches. First, I thought Austin was like lo losing some footing and that it might can get bad, but if you got that many jobs, I think that’s as safe as it looked like you can get. And and um there was another offensive lineman, uh Sadique Charles. Sadique Sadique Charles was also involved. Y he was also uh he was also doing some some moveound duty. So, I would imagine if it’s not awesome and you need somebody to do it, Sadiq is a guy uh that’ll do it for you. But talk about Austin Riches there, Brian Bros. Go ahead. Yeah, you know, you mentioned him going from side to side. Austin Richards in pre-amp was somebody I tab to uh let’s see how competitive they really allow it between him and Gayton and it just you know it just hasn’t really materialized like that at all. Uh you know but Gton’s had a really nice camp. I think this is something that goes back to uh where with this offensive line. Now, I I’ll say this, V, you and I were standing there listening to coach Shottenheimimer talk pre-practice and he was saying, and this is something and Todd Arch and I were visiting about this. I don’t ever remember a practice or a team where they never worked on Nine on seven, the run stuff or the seven on seven. And I and and and I’m sitting there thinking like, you want to be physical running the football, but you’re not willing to put in the time to run a nine on seven period. Well, coach Shanheimer then looked at me and said, “Watch what I’m about to do in this opening period of of uh teamwork today.” Y that turned into a 11 on run period is what that that was not a that was not a nine on seven. He told us he says I believe in 11on1 football and he played 11on1 football and did it with some running is what he did. That was get under center. it was get in some heavy formations and it was see if we can move the football and see if you could stop us from moving the football. So, I was very concerned, you know, going into like how are they going to develop a running game without working on it that way. And I’m I it’s the old way, you know, he mentioned his dad, Marty Shottenheimr. Yeah. His dad his dad and them ran nine on seven periods. But see, Brian, he made a really good point, though. He said, “I want to run it in team drills because you need CD Lamb and GP to be blocking as well to block it.” Yeah. And I was over with the receivers today. And that’s something that they absolutely do. They work on they were working on a catch and then the second guy blocked. So they’re they are interested in getting these receivers involved in blocking. This is going to be a part of their DNA. But but Brian Shottenheimimer, my I had some serious doubts coming into this practice like, okay, how is he going to make his team better running the football without doing these periods? Well, he just did it in team. I mean, the first 10, 12 plays of team were just lining up and handing the football to these backs and then letting the line come off and letting them get into the defenders and see where this thing takes them. I like this Shenheimer guy, Brian. You know what I’m saying? You know, because I’m with you, you know, and when we’ve been out here, we’re not running a whole bunch of one-on- ones neither. I was waiting on the one-on- ones. We ran team all day. Team all day. All day. Now, there may have been 11. There may have been different emphasis like we’ll be going into the end zone one time. Other times we’ll drive the whole field, other time we’re backed up. Sometimes it could be situational, but it’s always all 11 guys on the field. Browns, I got to give Shotti credit for that. And um you know to his point when when when the Cowboys ran the football today, I just kind of wanted to keep eyes on the trenches or whatnot because you know um earlier in camp practices, you know, the interior was like doing their thing and it was moving guys around. So I was like, “All right, well, what’s it going to look like when pads actually come on?” And I think the Cowboys did a really good job of running the football today and really leaning into the Dline a little bit. The defense got got theirs as well. I think the defense really did well in the uh coverage aspect. So, we can kind of talk about that a little bit, but as as as far as like rundown stuff goes, I think the Cowboys offensive line moved some bodies today, Brian. Yeah, I do. I think Solomon Thomas, if you want to talk about a defensive guy that had a a pretty good day up front, I I think Sully Thomas, there was one time though where and it was on back-to-back plays where he was able to to win against Smith and be disruptive and then the very next play they tried to block back with with BB on him and he was up the field before BB was able to even react. So Si Thomas was able to show you some quickness with what he was been able to do. But for the most part, yeah, I like what you were talking about there. The the linebackers, I know Meris Leafoul uh had uh you know, Meris Lee foul the very first play in in in team, he knocks the ball out of John Stevens hands. Riff, riff, riff, riff. Don’t leave Solomon though. Don’t leave Solomon. Do you think that that’s how he’s gonna have to win? Like as he’s gota win. That’s it. like as a smaller kind of guy that’s that’s deep in the middle like that, you know, as a as a run defense guy. Is Solomon Thomas gonna have to win with quickness and like smarts? Like is that what is that what we’re doing? It’s that’s exactly the way it is. He he he cannot he cannot go toe-to-toe with people. He’s got to be able to uh side step, get small, get in gaps, hit gaps, swim moves, you know, all these things that can, you know, he he is he has been far more active inside than any of the other defensive tack with the exception of of Winfrey. I think Winfrey when he gets in there, he’s active like so. very similar type players, but they but they’re going to have to win with quickness when it goes uh when when it comes to Solomon Thomas playing that three technique. Peron Winford got a little motor on him, don’t he, Brian Bratis? Big motor. Big motor. Guy is a guy’s an interesting player just because I feel like he’s got some snap in his hands when you see him get uh when he when he’s gets his hands inside. Uh he’s got strength. uh he could shock the blocker and he can move down the line and or get up the field. Uh he can make himself, as I mentioned, he can make himself small, get in gaps. Uh this is a this is one of those that I have a feeling when we get to some preeason games and stuff that Perion Winfrey is going to be a guy that’s probably going to make some tackles and everybody will be talking about it. But you heard it here first. This guy’s had some really productive practices against some really good uh that I feel like good guard center combinations. Pardon me for cutting you off. I didn’t want to leave Solomon Thomas. You were saying something good about Maris Leoul a little earlier. Yeah, Maris Leafoul though, like you say, they the first play they throw the ball on the they throw the ball in the boot and and Stevens makes the play and Maris Leafoul comes running in, boom, knocks the ball out right off the jump. Here we go, creating another turnover. And then the very next play though, he was able to knife through meet Williams right there in the back field. It been tackle for loss, no gain. So, you know, just a couple of flash plays. What we thought that was going to happen is that some of these linebackers were going to show up. We saw we saw guys that were going to that have to be physical that don’t all you don’t always see it in the t-shirts and helmet aspects of the game, but you see it when they’re involved with, you know, having to close down a place. I’ll say this though about the offensive line. I I want to give credit to it because we haven’t talked very much about TJ Bass. I don’t know if you saw this one. Really nice trap block or you know a counter block. They were there were a couple time they they they hit a counter one time where it was Smith and Gton coming from left to right and they cleaned that thing up and Williams jumped in behind him. Good way to run the football right there. But good trap block by Bass later in the practice coming down and just once again kicking the outside and then they get the ball up in behind him. I thought Blue I thought Sanders I thought those guys ran the ball with some purpose today. Uh no Deuce Vaughn he’s dealing with a hamstring injury. They’re saying it’s not as serious as it it was last year. Hopefully he won’t miss very much time. Uh Brian, since we’re talking about injury, did you get a report on Brevin span for uh he kind of went down a little bit with a lower leg? It looked like he did kind of needed some help to move around, then he kind of walked off on his own into the tent. What did you hear about uh Brevin and Brian? Yeah, Brevin span forward. They think it’s a sprained ankle and they’re doing an MRI, which we’re taping right now on a Sunday afternoon. So hopefully either this evening or tomorrow uh we will get some news on Brevin Span for but initial thought is that it is a sprained ankle MRI pending. We’ll get more information about it tomorrow. Fair enough. Brian brought us uh let’s just uh I mentioned it earlier. Uh I did notice that the DBs had a really good day today. They did. They did. They were kind of giving uh GP a hard time. Um they were, you know, CD was able to kind of get his or whatnot, but I think uh Jaylen Tober was given a hard time today. GP was given a hard time. Absolutely. Absolutely. They were they were really on every wide receiver, not named CD Lamb. Uh Brian, I’m I’m really blown away by how consistent these guys are. They have, you know, it’s not like they’re just having one really good day and we’re overreacting to it. Like they’ve been playing some really good defense like the whole time I’ve been out here. So talk talk to me about the defense, the coverage, the DBs. Tell us about those guys. Yeah, you know what you mentioned about CD offensive line. Go ahead. Yeah. No, no, I know you were. So, to me, and I think with CD, he was I think there was a couple times where, you know, he and Dak tried to connect on a deep ball. I didn’t think that the first two were as good as they needed to be today. I didn’t think Pickkins was as good as he needed to be, and I didn’t really think that Lamb I thought there was a little bit of some disconnect with Dak trying to find them. Uh, Pickkins had a drop over the middle that was really uncharacteristic to him and then came back, made a catch. But I, you got to give some credit to the way that these guys play today. I’ll throw Carson in there and I’ll especially throw Booth in there. I know Booth is the one that everybody likes to kind of beat up on when it comes to, you know, uh, this this secondary, but, you know, with no with no digs, no bland, I mean, this is this we saw Rell today. he wasn’t with the uh he was with the working with the defensive backs uh you know on the side over there but it wasn’t like with Britt Brown. So maybe he’s closer to coming back. Hopefully that’s the case to get him out there and get some work. But I want to say we don’t get to talk about Booth very much but good day by him knocking the ball away. Good job by him staying in coverage as well a couple of different times. So you know the secondary uh Hooker had a nice play coming up. Uh they tried to throw the ball inside. You mentioned Tolbert. Tolbert had Tolbert had been pretty good at running inside routes, coming back to the football and making catches. Yeah. Today he had a ball that was a little high that should have been caught was a drop. So not the best day or not the cleanest day for the Cowboy wide receivers catching the football. I I’ll tell you what, uh there was a they they had a chance opportunity. I don’t know if you saw this one. They put Turpin in the back field. This is on Joe Mixon. I think they put Turpin in the back field and they they’re going to run him to the flat. They It’s a It’s a designed throw and like he’s like screaming for the ball and Milton ends up throwing across the middle and it’s incomplete and I’m like, “Okay, you put him in the back field for a purpose of throwing him the ball in the flat.” I mean, he’s they’re going to they’re going to they’re they’re like picking the edge. They’re picking the edge and he’s going behind the pick and Milton on a design designed play doesn’t even look at it and I’m sitting there going, “Come on, Joe.” I mean, that’s you put him in the back field, you run the picks and now you’re going to throw him the ball, but they don’t do it. And then you go inside and it’s in ends up being incomplete. So, you know, those kinds of things they’ve got to get a little bit better at. Joe Milton. Uh there’s times where I think that Joe Milton gets a little lost in what’s going on with his reads and getting lost because there’s times too where they have to go back and rehuddle. I think that’s a little bit on Joe Milton as well. Brian, let me ask you about a guy. Uh a couple people on Twitter have asked me about it, but they didn’t get my memo that I’m only watching offensive line, but I’ll still try my best to answer everybody’s question. Israel Muomo, what have you been seeing with him, if you’ve been seeing anything at all with him? You know what? I haven’t noticed Izzy as much as I’ve noticed Hall and and and but he’s been out there running as the as the uh second nickel and they really haven’t attacked him. They really haven’t gone after him. They’ve gone after Hall. They’ve gone after Hall a little bit, but they haven’t gone after Izzy. And so I don’t know if that’s good or that’s bad, but he hasn’t been one of those guys where I was like every time there’s a reception I always mark who the reception’s on. I can’t say that I put number 24 on my notepad very much in this camp. Okay, Brian Bryce. Um, one last thing that I just had um as a uh as a take for the offensive lineman there. Pardon me. Hold on. Let me go back to tight ends real quick. Uh, so Brevin kind of walks out or whatever. Skoon makes some catches. Um, I think Princeton Fent kind of got involved a little bit. Not not too too too crazy. Some scuffling. Yeah. Got, you know, they talk about him as a blocker. You know, that’s kind of his that remember coach talking about, oh, they nickname him Bull because of his strength and all that. He got a little bit of some scuffles at the at the point of attack. Yeah. Uh, Jake is out there as a $13 million tight end right now. So, of course, he’s he’s he’s going to be getting some work, but all eyes are kind of on Skoon Maker right now because this isn’t the first time where injury has afforded Schomaker an opportunity to kind of step up and do some things. So, moving forward, I’ll be looking out for him, but uh he made a couple of plays today. Did you see anything more than those handful of plays, Brian? Yeah, I’m trying to watch him as a blocker and there was a time where uh where Ezaraku snatched him pretty good and you know it’s he comes off the ball and he’s got to learn to get his hands in quicker. He’s got to learn to get his hands inside quicker on these on these on these edges. And you know it’s a little bit of a better uh better matchup for him than a guy that’s a big tall end and stuff like that that’s got much better reach than him. But but Ezaraku snatched him pretty quick and he tried to fight back and then the ball kind of got, you know, the back didn’t really didn’t have much of a chance there. He did he got absolutely no movement. He got stalemated on the play. So the receiving aspects getting downfield has been better. Some of the catches has been better. Uh but you know that particular the thing he really can kind of needs to really work on if he wants to try and win that second job is to being a a much better blocker. And like I said, the time I watched that point of attack block, Ezrau got it pretty pretty handedly and it was a it was a little bit of a struggle for for him to to to maintain that block. Did you feel like Jayden Blue got a couple more opportunities today? I saw him do a little bit more than I’ve seen. Yeah. Yeah, he was good. Yeah. Yeah. Talk to him. Yeah, he was good. And yesterday I thought he was pretty good, too. They had a they had a period yesterday where he was a blitz pickup guy and he really did a good job of sorting things out and it could get a little mudded in there when when bodies are flying all over the place and he was able not to, you know, you lose focus like, okay, you’re inside and you lose focus where your guy is. Well, he he was inside and then his guy came around to try and free and he slid over to make the play. So, picking up the right guy. But that there’s no question today was the one day where I really felt like that he saw the hole and was very decisive of where he needed to go with the ball. And maybe that has something to do with having pads on or something like that, but I thought this was one of those days where all of a sudden they hand him the football and he he he’s attacking, pressing the hole, and if he had to make a cut, he made the cut. If not, he stayed playside and went with it. But I thought he was really decisive running the football today. Yeah, man. If you Deuce Von, you really just can’t be getting hurt right now. Like I know injuries happen and it it happens every year to him. Every year it happens. Yeah. And you say the hamstrings not that bad. He he need to bring his ass back cuz as soon as Duce Von called himself missing some days, we see a whole bunch of Jaydon Blue. But that’s the nature of the beast. Um I saw Well, let’s go like limp around a little bit today. I don’t think it was nothing. Yeah, he got he got he got Yeah, he got rocked. He was uh he was on another one of those like we were talking about the trap the pulls, you know, stuff. He was pulling he was pulling and I don’t know if he was playing guard or he was playing tackle. My guess he was playing guard and he pulled left to right and just got rocked and it knocked him to the ground and he got up limping and I’m thinking, okay, well, here we go. He’s just not strong enough. That That’s the biggest thing. I mean, he it was a it was a good effort to make the block, but at the point he just got rocked and it and it affected him where he he got hurt and he came up, as you mentioned, very limpy. I got one more patt of practice in me, Brian Bros. And I’mma, you know, go on back to old DFW and watching on Twitter like everybody else. You know what I’m saying? So, we’re going to get one more uh one more practice in, one more Cowboys break, and one more uh postpractice show, and uh we’ll be uh good to go. Was this on like uh uh YouTube like as the blue white we just running around playing? Yeah. Yeah. I Yeah. Yeah. I I saw I saw Roxan Medina who works for Dallas Cowboys television. She was in Jerry’s tower with a camera. Maybe this was something that they had. Maybe we could go back and watch. I don’t know how tight that they filmed. There used to be back in the day that good good stuff you get out of it. Now it’s more like Yeah. Exactly. So, uh, but yeah, it might be something that the Dallas Cowboys have. Go back on the YouTube channel. I I’m going to take a peek later on to see if it is actually there. But, uh, but I think they were on they had one camera on the field, one camera up above, and then they had Bill Jones and crew all in the tent area with Nate Newton. And so, they might have been doing some type of little YouTube production. Fantastic work as always, Brian Bros. We’re gonna come right back up in here tomorrow. do it again. And uh the Cowboys are gonna be off on Tuesday and uh we’re gonna cross that bridge and Brian’s probably gonna be here for another couple days after that. And then he’ll be watching from uh from Twitter just like me. So we going to run it just like that. We love y’all to pieces. Appreciate y’all for tapping into every single show and not missing them. You know what I mean? And uh we gonna keep rocking. B O C H L O N B A R D I. And that’s B R Yus on Twitter. Y to follow him. September 1st is the uh tenative date for the first episode of uh Crown Global. So y’all be sure to keep your eyes open for that. Y’all hold it down. Till next time. All right.

Voch & Broadus are actually Prime Time ready. Need to be on National TV with their show. Kick espn's ass on True Dallas Cowboys News. ⭐️🔥🏈
Voch and Bryan great work…👏👏👏
Hopefully Spann-Ford & Deuce don't miss much time, it sounds like they've both been having a great camp.
Sounds like Winfrey is a big dude with the ability to play like a small dude, gonna be interesting to see him in game.
You guys are very informative
I need longer videos😂😂
Blah
This is great information fellas 👏🏽
Great work guys, appreciate your diligence. Your details and individual play info make it feel like we are there.
And…hey man I’m not gonna have too many more days to get this view!
love the view from Resort and Casino at San Maunuel 😅
I love your guys content! But we need to figure out a way not to give all this info away to the OPPS don’t you think 💯
Give Bryan to respect by spelling his name correctly 👍 thanks

hopefully Spann Ford, Juanyeh Thomas and Duece will be ok and not miss much time 🙏🙏
Love this duo
I wish we would’ve save that money to go towards Pickens! I believe TEs can be found easier and cheaper.
CBS Dallas broadcast the practice but I can’t find it online.

Ez-will-rock-u
Can’t get better than this 🔥🔥
Can we hear you guys call out the issues seen from the 60mil dollar qb as well? Seems like you guys largely avoid the topic which is interesting. Because we see the clips of multiple mistakes made by him everywhere on the net, but you guys don't really mention Dak's issues from camp here (only the other qbs mistakes are brought up usually)
All these views 👀hit the like button on your way out 😂 thanks
After signing Ferg. I think it’s bold move time. Trade Parsons and Diggs in “Huge” trade deal. Sign Pickens and Tyler Smith and Sam Williams to long term deals before season and use that bounty of picks and maybe players to restock and reinvest into the defense as a whole.
I like Austin Richards, like to hear the 6 Oline format. The Bills have been very successful with that set. Cowboys are going to have a good to great year. Dak has to stay healthy and play well.
You and Brian is like Boosie & Webbie 😅 🔥💯💪🏾
Yes this was the version of the Blue/White scrimmage…it’s up on Dallas Cowboys YouTube channel.
Oline – Dline and running game will make or break our season – non counting injuries 😂
The me ne ne ne ne resort 😂😂😂😂😂
