Padres vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (7/27/25) | MLB Highlights

There’s a lot on the line in this series. And I think the emotions of what we’ve seen in the first three reflect that emotions have been running high. You’ve had some tight ball games , you’ve had some chips back and forth, hit by pitches have been a big part of this. Contreras hit three times. Also, we got his tower buzz. Machado got hit twice. There’s some bad blood going both ways. Series win is on the line. Michael mcgreevy will try to secure that today. Well, how good was Michael mcgreevy last time he went seven and gave up only one at course, you know how hard that place is to pitch. One strikeout. A lot of weak contact used his arsenal really well. And Machado as Padres trying to earn a four game split. That’s ball four. He was ahead in the count. That’s very uncharacteristic. Zero walks last time out against the rocks fernando at first for luis Rise, rise grounds it to first base that’s through into right field. A base hit Hernando can easily go first to third as walker gets to it and sends it in luis a single nobody out in the top of the first inning, a 10 game hitting streak for luis and the Padres runners on the corners. Padres cooking here early as Manny Machado comes to the plate and he will to right center field in for a base hit from third comes fernando. He scores a goes to third and he’s thinking to the throw is going to hit Machado and Then scampering from third base is a another Padres run and the Padres take a 2 to 0 lead in the first inning early action. You got to love it. Manny taking this ball the other way. He was thinking double the whole way. Great baserunning on Luis’s part , he scores and a guy on second. Nobody out for Jackson Merrill riding a six game hit streak in the air to left and is going to catch that. Merrill retired. There’s your first out. Sander Bogard is coming up and that is grounded slowly to the shortstop. When no play at third, the throw goes to first bots is out. Machado is on third with two outs. Gavin sheets bats. Now it’s two and two and hit to right. Walker is going to have room to catch that nice job by mcree. He works around a leadoff walk. The Padres touch him for two with a three and 13 starts on the season here for Koli four. Seam sinker slider cutter changeup and the occasional sweeper from Koli and a one out single in the bottom of the first brings in Alec Burleson. Here’s kick from the belt, the pitch grounded to first backed by a rise. Fires to second. That’s one Iglesias turn back is in time and a 3 to 6 to 3 double play to end the bottom of the first inning. No runs a bloop single after the double play, he left. Arena is zero for his last 74 hits in his last 26 at bat And over the last seven games, he’s driven in just one run. 2 to 0, hit hard on the ground up the middle. Iglesias to his left has it spins from the outfield grass. The long throw is in time and two away in the bottom of the second inning star worthy didn’t seem like it was hit too hard, but Iglesias had to scramble to get to it and Then without setting his feet to spin long throw for out number two. So bases empty on a couple of ground balls for Mason win shortstop that’s chopped up the middle and the Cardinals have their second hit. Mason puts it in play. He’s got a two out knock and Jordan Walker is next ground ball up the middle and that is going to go on through in the center. Mason wins going to take third Jordan walker and Nguyen back to back hits 1st and 3rd 2 down for their number eight hitter Pedro softly up the middle and caught on a line by cronenworth is moving to second base that will end the inning. No runs, two hits, two men left on base, Fernando Tatis Jr.. Leads off in the third and the other way that is a fair ball down, the right field line will kick over to that side wall that will ensure is able to make it into second base leadoff double for Fernando here in the top of the third inning. He’s had himself a really nice series against one of his dad’s old teams. And the Padres set up with a man on second and nobody will try to move the runner up or in, he singled his first time up now with a 10 game hit streak hit in the center field a little looper , but it’s going to be caught by Victor scott tagging but not coming to third is Tatis and at second one out, Manning an opportunity to try and bring him home line to right and that’s it for a base hit Fernando had to wait. He’ll be stopped at third base as a result, wasn’t sure that was going to get on to the grass in right field. Another multi hit game that’s five straight. Here’s Jackson Merrill runners at the corners and one away and he takes off. He got a great job and a ground ball that’s going to go to second Donovan fires to first for the out and a run will score from third comes to the Padres take a 3 to 0 lead. Xander Bogart is ding today, grounded out to short his first time. There’s a swing, a looping liner into right field and Jordan walker makes the play. He lays out and play on the dime and a ball that was curving away from it. Well done. We spoke with john Malo for pregame. He said as you get to this point in the calendar, you have to think about the future. He expects things will be quiet today as Chip mentioned because it’s Hall of Fame day, but Then he expects things to get Cranton maybe tomorrow back to back singles to begin the fourth inning for the Padres 1st and 2nd. Now as jose Iglesias comes to the plate, a ball and two strikes and the air toward Walker, he settles underneath good set up. Runners tag, the throw is going to be cut off and they’re at 1st and 3rd 1 out runners on the corners earliest. Diaz here’s a bunt back to the mound squeeze play fielded by mcgreevy toss home and the ball came out of glove as a cheat slides in safely. And for the second straight day , the Padres execute a squeeze but they lead it 4 to 0. That’s the 32nd sacrifice for the Padres this year. Far and away the most, any national league team at the top of the Padres order. Fernando walked and scored the first double and scored in the third inning. Swung on and missed. He strikes out Tatis Jr takes a slap at his bat. He’s mad at his bat. The bat did it all the fault of the bat. Mcreavy. A couple of punch outs try to envy. Rally here with Arise who is one to two on the ground and by the dive at third base coming around from second is pro. Here comes the throw, he will be safe. Padres take a 5 to 0 lead on the rise, moves up to second base. No stopping around third base right here as rise just waves the magic wand past Arenado Burleson throw. Not a bad one but Jake, he beats the throw. Now this game is getting out of hand. It is five nothing Padres with Machado at the plate and he can really put a jolt in this inning down the line at third off the glove of Arnao. One run is in. Here comes another and the Padres open it up on top seven Machado on his third hitter. The day drives in two more. They have busted this one wide open man to the pull side off the glove of or not bring him on home breathing room for Stephen K and it is Jackson Merrill batting for the third time swing and a fly ball to left that’s going to help the cause as Burleson moves over towards the line and in fair territory makes the play for out. Number three, that will end the inning and a rough inning for Michael mcgreevy. He gives up four Padres runs, one ball, one strike for chopped up the middle. And what up here, how about that play? That’s Jose Iglesias OJ flips it on the ground, gets the lead runner. This is worth another look, Jose , do your stuff behind the back. Jake with the bare hand. Great play all the way around to get the lead runner. Herrera takes a walk to lead up to six quiet series for Alec Burleson. Let’s see if he can change that in the air to center. That was well, hit me going back and that one is on the, that’s more like it. It’s 7 to 2, some loud noises off the bat of the Cardinals. Alec Burles at 13th of the season kick, tried to run that sinker 92 mile an hour down in the zone. He goes down and gets it with authority dead center field. 417 ft shot for Burle and the Cardinals won’t be shut out. Today is looking for his first hit of the day doing the duties this afternoon in the air to left field struck pretty well. Burleson going back looking, it’s gone. Xander Bogaerts on his seventh home run of the year. Padres get a run back. It’s a two Xander staying hot, tried the front door that slider this time, he keeps his front shoulder in a little bit longer and explodes on the baseball he had some interaction with some Padre fans in the first row by the on deck circle. And after he homered, he kind of turned and pointed that way. I told you, so Machado will come up already 10 hits in the series. He has never had a four game series in his career with 11 hits opportunity to do that right here. And right now and Manny lines it the other way into right field. A base hit fourth hit of the game for Manning Fernando stops at third base and the Padres have runners on the corners one away. Now, Merrill who flew out against King last night in the ninth in breaking ball chopped to first base. Contreras hops up as it goes off his glove, it trickles into right Fernando comes in to score and it’s now 9 to 2 might have thought it was going to be a double play but Contreras who’s been really good defensively, unable to squeeze it very, very catchable. Padres, nine Cardinals two bottom of the ninth inning, jose Fermin who came on defensively in the top of the inning will lead off right handed batter against Marinaccio swing and a miss and he struck him out. Second strikeout for him. Marinaccio, the first out of the ninth inning, one is two swaying and advance Marinaccio with his third strikeout and two down in the bottom of the ninth inning. Seen a good change up for Marinac. Now the four seed fastball at 96 upstairs in the air to right field Johnson coming in and over make the catch and the Padres, the Padres able to gain a split of this four game series. They end up going five and five on the road trip but win a 9 to 2 in convincing fashion and a good way to close out this very long road trip.

  1. Same story as last year, the Dodgers weren't playing well and the Padres snuck up on them and almost took the Division. Let's see if they can actually do it this time.

  2. Hold on for a second isn't this a Sunday afternoon game. Why are the seats empty? Now in contrast on Sundays in San Diego California it's a sellout crowd on Sunday afternoon. And they always talk about how much there is to do in San Diego …there's so many things.. like the beach. There's the parks there's everything. Yeah they still sell out the games on Sunday afternoon. But in St. Louis I don't get it.

  3. Single loop SD logo with the yellow front on the caps. Is this the new road cap???? Now we’re playing good baseball!!!!! Timely base hits, “heads up” base running. Home runs?…maybe. NOW WE’RE PLAYIN’ BALL!

  4. Padres won with a lot of help from the umps Padres batters should have been out for being out of the box when swing at pitches and their catcher should have been called for a balk on half of their pitches

  5. So many in the comments don't realize St. Louis is in an extreme heat warning. I wouldn't go to this game either just to cook in the sun.
