[The Athletic] One executive pinned him as an $18 million player. Another, a front-office staffer who admitted he would be far lower than the consensus because he wasn’t a fan of Giddey’s game, suggested $50 million over four years…

  1. On one hand its theoretically nice that we can pay him less than the asking price. On the other hand the league’s interest level in Giddey is very telling

  2. This is just rage bait so people can point to this to shit on the team when he will obviously get more

  3. I know we don’t read anymore but

    > Fourteen of the 16 participants proposed an average annual salary between $20 million and $25 million. (His mean average yearly value in the poll came to $22.3 million a year.)

  4. I don’t even know where the hold up is. It’s very clear that whatever the Bulls are offering, Giddey isn’t going to get more on another team. Unless they’re really low balling him at like 10 millions per year, either he takes their offer or takes the QO and tries he luck in the 2026 FA. AKME has all the leverage, they aren’t flinching at any point.

  5. Giddey’s game isn’t perfect, but suggesting 4 years for $50 million is just plain hating.

  6. I don’t know why you’re highlighting the one random outlier rather than “the other 14 out of 16 participants proposed an average salary between 20 and 25 million, with the average being 22.3 million.” 20 to 25 million seems like exactly what he will get.

  7. If there is this much doubt from the front office then protect the future by front-loading the contract. Pay him a bit more than you are comfortable and have him be movable and potentially more valuable in the future at a lower rate. Should satisfy both parties.

  8. I’m a fan of Giddey’s potential but at the end of the day, the best thing this front office has done has drawn a hard line on him like they should’ve done with numerous other players in the past. If he’s not going to be a bull, the next best to do is find a trade partner and get an asset back. Kuminga for 4 years 90 isn’t a bad option if we can also send out another player (Pat) in that deal. They have options it’s just ridiculous but not surprising they refuse to exercise them.

Side note: If Giddey signs the qualifying offer and has a great season. Like all star level season, I can see these idiots trying to resign him and that would also be a mistake. Let him go and play ball elsewhere.

  9. The Miami play-in game was a perfect encapsulation of Giddey’s flaws. His box score looks pretty good, but Miami’s entire gameplan revolved around abusing his weaknesses, and it worked perfectly.

Spo opened the game with Bam on Giddey who sagged off of him *hard* at the three point line and dared him to create in the halfcourt, despite Gid coming into the game with a ton of momentum. He was left wide open pretty much all game, and it allowed Bam to have complete control of the paint, which was the linchpin to their defense.

Davion Mitchell was allowed to stay glued to Coby all game and locked him UP on the perimeter (which is also a huge indictment on Coby), but any time Cob managed to get past him, Bam was right there.

On the offensive end, Spo’s gameplan was predicated on attacking Giddey as often as possible. He was getting cooked by 30 year old Wiggins in isolation, and any time Herro got switched onto him it was damn near a free bucket.

Who he is as a player is just very flawed as a very ball-dominant tall ballhandler with (ironically) extremely limited handles and OTD shooting. I get that he’s still super young and has shown improvement year by year, but I don’t think being 22 means he’ll substantially improve in these key areas.

  10. Whatever his pay is….it has to be worth more than $18M a year….Patrick Williams set that market

  11. I don’t understand why this is surprising. He’s a traffic cone on defense, he’s not a physical driver (so he’s not generating foul shots), and can’t shoot. What teams have been successful building around a PG like that?

  12. Feels good when insiders that know what they’re talking about agree with me despite me getting downvoted whenever I say 20 is overpay for Giddey

  13. I’m on the fence with him because I do believe he improved quite a bit and is still young but don’t believe he isn’t going to actually be a difference maker for a great team. That being said, this day and age it seems like everyone gets 30 mil so I’m surprised there’s no market for him
