Carolina Hurricanes linked to another trade target; The unwritten rules of baseball…eating chal…

Uh, the Carolina Hurricanes um about 70 or so days. I I think yesterday the Canes put out it was slaving days until the regular season. Uh, fine. Whatever. I mean, it’s a I’m like I’m looking forward to the next one. Who would be the next Who would be the next one if they had to be Taylor Hall in two days? Oh, Taylor. Oh, yeah. 71. Right. So, okay. So, it’ll be soon it’ll be Taylor Hall days until the regular season starts. Until that starts, and to be honest, it really until training camp starts because I’m not sure head coach Rod Brymore would want to interject too many new things as they start a season. Now, during the season, he’s actually been okay with it. Uh, more okay with Jake Gensel than anything else that’s been added during the regular season. I mean, again, Logan Stanovven, he loves does love Stanovven because he loves his fire and hustle and Janowski has Mark Janowsky has the same kind of bit. Anyway, leading up until training camp, the Carolina Hurricanes with their healthy amount of cap space, which is remaining, which is about $10 million. Wrap that around your head. The C the Carolina Hurricanes have not spent up to the top of the cap. They have room. They are well over the floor of the NHL floor which is at 70 million. So they have 10 more million dollars that Eric Tolski and the Brain Trust can actually spend. They don’t have anything else to do this season. They have a full roster. But until that happens, there’s a great awareness across the NHL, and I think this goes for the majority of NHL teams who have cap space, that everybody wants to add the puck moving center. They want to add that that player that will make the team a lot better. We have discussed this in detail on this program and across the board. The best part about what we do is we get to speculate and talk about a bunch of things. And there was an article written prior to the weekend that got lost in the shuffle of ACC football kickoff, that got lost in the shuffle of training camps opening up that the Calgary Flames are headed towards a youth movement. A team that was barely out of the postseason. They made the No, they were just barely out of the postseason last year and they are in the midst of a youth movement. They’ve got young guys, a a very capable goalie and Dustin Wolf and a lot of other dudes in that range. Yeah, Zayn Perrick and uh Coronado is a great player. He just got an extension for them as well. So, they got a couple couple young guys coming up and they’ve got to pay too, but they’ve got lots of cap space available. They’re there’s a pseudo youth movement that’s happening there. Pseudo I say pseudo youth month because they’re they’re stuck with some big contracts, but Kadri will be 35 soon. Nazim Kadri is the guy we’re talking about. Alternate uh I believe he’s an alternate captain for the team and he is at center. And there’s a thought because of how healthy the market is right now or just in terms of what people need and the amount of money that’s available that it wouldn’t be difficult to move him if they were looking for something in return. His ability is availability and he’s also coming off a ridiculous 35 goal season at the age of 34. And he’s healthy. He has stayed healthy for the majority of his career. That is even better news. In the last three seasons for Calgary, Nasim Cadri has played 82 games in each of the three seasons. 82 durable. And his points have gone up in terms of goal scoring. Assists have come down, but that’s, you know, that’s line mate. You can’t control that. And he’s still under team control. any team who would want him. And it’s not a bad contract considering way the way the NHL is going at $7 million. Now, the deal is he has to approve any movement this year. After that, he goes to a modified no team trade. Uh 13 team no trade list, I believe, kicks in next July. So, is it is are the Carolina Hurricanes on his list? Does he want to contend? Again, Calgary hasn’t been the greatest of teams. They’re up and coming, but they’ve got a guy that’s valued. They can do some youth. They can do some youth. They can bring in some younger guy. Bring in a younger center. They’ve got guys that can move the puck around and whatnot. Do they try to get younger? And what do they ask for? On Friday, there were five teams that were put out for the services of Najram Nazam. One of them would have been the Colorado Avalanche, which is where he played before like that. That’s he walked out as an unrestricted free agent, but he knows playoff hockey. He knows he knows the ABS. The problem is is they don’t have cap space. So, let’s just erase them from existence. That leaves four teams. All of them are in Canada with the exception of the Devils and the Carolina Hurricanes. And can something get done in that way? Again, Carolina’s going to come up for everything that’s breathing when it comes to center speculation, especially at that spot. And this team, when you look at the Carolina Hurricanes and contracts in existence right now, the majority of this team is going to be together for the next four seasons. Outside of goalending and not thinking about the futures of Jordan Stall and Jordan Martin, of which Stall took a pay cut last season and he still signed for two more. Jordan Martinook, same kind of deal. He got a bump, but he signed for the same amount of time Jordan Stall is. the rest of this team in terms of playmakers and whatnot are together for the next four seasons. Nasam Cadre’s contract. Guess what? Four seasons at a very respectable $7 million. And you’re like, Paul, you’re nuts. I mean, it’s not the it’s not the craziest thing. It doesn’t seem too far-fetched. The question is, I think for a lot of fans, it always comes up with age, right? You look at hockey players and you go, they’re going to slow down eventually. They’re gonna they’re going to play hard. They’re going to keep going. But at what clip can a can a cadrey keep that kind of know, apparently he takes care of himself. There’s no doubt about it. If you look at his history in this league, he has not played outside of the co years really has not played fewer than 73 games. 73. and the last three seasons again every regular season game. Now there’s the issue with Cadri and this might get him itching again for a move and he might be willing to move this season is that he hasn’t been in a postseason since winning the cup with Colorado when he walked and took the paycheck which was very very strong at the time and now it’s a little bit middle of the road. He has not played in one postseason game. So for 246 opportunities, 246 games over the last three years, he has not missed one. He has not missed one game. That might tell you something about a guy like that. That it might be worth the investment, that it doesn’t feel like it’s way out of the ordinary for a guy like that to make this team. But what could the Hurricanes give up? That’s the other problem. that I just mentioned. Everyone’s signed for four, at least four. You’re picking off one guy at a time, one guy at a time, but you’re not really talking about topline dudes until you get to the 29th season. And now you’re thinking about what to do with Andre Fetchnikov, who’s also got a no trade list right now on in in place. He cannot be dealt to only but 10 teams in the NHL. I’m not saying he’s going to be the guy. I did not say that at all. What I’m saying is for four seasons, if that is truly the case for this Carolina Hurricanes team, and that’s what it looks like it’s set up as, and you can even look through defense, too. You can even look at defense, too. Outside of the goalending position, this team is together. The majority of this team is still together for the next four seasons, and that’s where he slides in. And you can give up picks. You can always give up picks. And Max, I think you know this better than a lot of folks because I know hockey is one of your strong suits. Like I hate going, “Well, let’s just we’re going to fleece people, right? When it always comes to trades, we’re going to fleece guys and we’re going to give you no Gundler.” All right, there you go. No Gunler and our fourth round choice. You can have the rights to Nikita Armmanov and a 2028 sixth round pick in exchange for your topofthe- line second line center. Right. So, is that that’s not real? So, what is truly real for this team? Now, remember, replacing a center. We’re replacing a center. You just signed Jackson Blake and Logan Stanco to long-term deals. You believe in those two guys. You just signed Eers to five to to have, you know, he’s got five years going. AO’s got five. He not going anywhere. You know that Jarvis says, I mean, that’s not just five. It’s two 31 30 31 for Eers. 32 for Aaho. 32 for Jarvis. Cook and Yi signed through 30. So is Will Kerier Slavven 8year extension. Yeah. I mean, so you start looking at guys with the availability, it has to be somebody from your active roster. It has to be somebody. And the only flexibility you have this season without blinking and the name comes up constantly and the haters will hate the way it is is yes coke and y because we cannot the Carolina Hurricanes and this is going to be a constant discussion right up through training camp if this is the actual discussion we’re going to have and have it for real. You only have one movable part outside of what you’ve got in your farm system, what you’ve got playing in Chicago. You only have one true trade piece without having to blink or look at the sheet and go, “Are they available to go there? He’s the only dude.” And you’re going to go, “Paul, wait, wait a second. What about Seth Jarvis? Seth Jarvis doesn’t have a Are you freaking kidding me?” Like, no. Yeah, the delusion of delusion would put that one out there, but I have to say it because it’s still factual. Well, I mean, I don’t know if anyone’s in a rush to trade their 30goal potential, maybe even like a 40 goal guy, 23y old winger for a 35year-old center. I mean, maybe not just in the, you know, the the cadrey, you know, conversation, but even overall, like how many players out there really would there be that you would trade such Jarvis for? A McDavid or a McKinnon, but like there you go. There you go. Austin Matthews for Seth Jarvis. Yeah, I’m good. Okay, so save the six mill. You have it though. That’s the thing. You have it. That’s the difference. The Carolina Hurricanes have $10 million. Paul Ehander. That’s Max Gorn. Next up here on 999 the fan. They have money to spend. But to have the honest conversation, you cannot fleece other teams for what you are looking for. It just won’t happen in this day and age. Everyone’s got cap space. So you have to dangle strong carrots. the strongest carrot that the Carolina Hurricanes have outside of picks. And to be fair, the picks really aren’t that strong either. They really aren’t. You’re talking about real futures at this point. And for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2026, Eric Tolski right now has valued the fact that he still holds his first rounder, but there’s nothing else that he has. If you look at the current pick holdings of the Carolina Hurricanes for the next three seasons, the cupboard is pretty much bare in 26. They don’t have anything but the first rounder and they got a couple of sixrounders and that’s it. There’s very little value for the Canes. Of course, they’ll trade out of round one. I mean, they’re like the Panthers. That’s Yeah, that’s just what they do. Let’s just trade out a round one and see what happens in round two, but still, what are you ga What are you gathering at that point? You can dangle a pick three years from now, but you are hoping within the organization that those picks in round one in 2028 are still picks 31 and 32. Yeah. Even Dallas’s pick like not very likely to be any higher than, and I’m being bullish, like 22, right? These aren’t sexy picks by any means. So if you’re going to have to go out and get a guy like that and you’re not going to surrender a ton of salary and your best ripest car at the farmers market stand is Yes, Coke and Y. And again, you can go to your non-roster guys. But again, what are you truly offering that’s there? And again, you cannot fleece other teams. It’s not going to happen. Those those days are gone. The bag of pucks trades, the traditional hockey trades, those might be gone. based on the movement in the salary cap and the willingness to spend even more money that’s out there. Everything breathing, right? Everything breathing, the Canes will be linked to because of that cap space. [Music] I’m Max scoring. Three things you need to know right now from 999 the fan. Today’s the first day of padded practice at Carolina Panthers training camp in Charlotte. The Durham Bulls could not secure a series win against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Sunday night, following by a score of 12 to six and splitting the series three games a piece. The Bulls are off today and will travel to Gwynette for a series against the Stripers that will begin Tuesday night at 7:05. Some incredible individual performances highlighted an action-packed weekend in Major League Baseball with the trade deadline looming this Thursday at 6 p.m. Wake Forest product Nick Curts became the first rookie in league history to hit four home runs in a game on Friday. While Kyle Raleigh continued to add to his historic season with his league leading 41st home run on Sunday. Find these stories and more onlports.com. Yeah, that Nick Herz thing, former Wake Forest demon Deacon, man, he’s uh he’s got it going for sure. Like he is he is blasting off like crazy. Potentially potentially greatest single game performance ever. That uh six for six, eight RBI’s, four home runs. That bat’s going to Coopertown, which is cool. Which yesterday honored everyone in the hall of honored uh honored players to next latest induction in the Hall of Fame. Congrats to my guy Ichiro Suzuki. So much has been made about CC Sabathian. And I totally get it. Like, but there’s a little bias. We’re not talking about Ichiro enough. Having witnessed Ichiro play in person and and what he did for the city of Seattle and what he did for baseball and I mean played in Miami and his speech yesterday was brilliant. It’s crazy he wasn’t uh unanimous. Yeah. Well, there’s something to be said about that. It’s funny because um just a a quick aside, we talk about you know Nick Curtz the bat is going to Coopertown from the four home run night at Coopertown yesterday as they honored all these players. The guy who was holding the plaques is actually a friend of mine. He’s the president of the baseball hall of fame. We worked together in in Arizona for quite a while. I have to get him on I have to see if I can get him on this week. He could probably tell some really good stories about what’s going on there. Uh those of you who are well aware of the food challenges that are out there and I’m not talking about competitive eating. uh or you know like las pounds of lasagna or back in the day it was pizza when I when I was growing up at my favorite place Fanos. Uh the 999 challenge if you’re not familiar with the 999 challenge it is baseball related in which you go to a nineing ball game at least you hope it gets played to nine innings depending on rain or if you’re covered or whatever it is and you down nine beers and nine hot dogs in nine innings. Now, there is a thought that you have to do so one inning at a time, but just prior to the weekend, former NFLer, going to be Hall of Famer JJ Watt went out and pulled off the 999 challenge. And so, he went to a Brewers game and did the 999. However, he did seven beers and seven hot dogs through the first three innings and then finished the last two hot dogs and last two beers at the end of six. I believe it was actually like five and a half. So, is he has he did nine hot dogs and everyone’s saying, “Oh, great. What a great job.” And then others are like, “Wait a second. The idea is to do one beer, one hot dog each inning because you don’t just crush them all at once. You take the time and you let that stuff settle in your stomach. So now your stomach’s full of warm beer and kind of pseudo warm hot dogs. I mean, you know, I understand that for an average an average person, like that’s the probably like the limitation is having to do one printing, but if you’re JJ Watt, like I say if you’re if you have the body and you’re capable, just just go for it. So you’re okay. Just 99, but not nine. 99 and seven. The the idea is just to do it within the confines of the game. Like you pray for pitching changes if you’ve tried this. I’ve never actually tried to make the run at this. I think the most I’ve done in like two hours, not even just a game, like two hours. This was at a horse track in Texas watching horse racing because they did dollar dog and dollar beer night. So I could I could do that in a heartbeat. I think I did four of each. That was it. That was about as deep as I could go. So Watt did it in seven innings. The purists, the unwritten rules of eating the 999 suggest it’s nine innings with a spread out. He was also in a suite, so the beer is colder and the hot dogs are fresher. But hey, all the more power to you, man. You eat nine hot dogs and you eat nine beers and drink nine beers, it’s still baseball and it’s still fun, right? Quit crushing my fun.

Paul Ihander and Max Goren react to the latest article linking the Carolina Hurricanes to a popular NHL trade target: Nazem Kadri. Also, they discuss some of the weekend’s baseball action, including a legendary performance, Hall of Fame inductions, and controversial eating challenges.

  1. Speculating makes you all look absolutely, well, dumb. Same stupid sh*t over and over! Trade yourself to a new area so you won’t have to obsess over tearing this team apart.

You’ve done EVERYTHING you can to make Rod admit he’s looking for a Center and HE HAS NOT.

Thank baby Jesus you are not Rod. 👍🏼
